Just tried this trick earlier today and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t add that “sauce”. I thought the impedance, and bias/sag thing was enough at first, but now it’s another level. I’ll say that maybe not every amp needs the compression trick, but for clean and low gain tones, holy MOLY it livens it up quite a bit- so greasy and fun to play. All morning, I couldn’t stop playing the AC30 model set clean with a Mesa 4x12 I have set up. Did it with my crunch channel on the Litigator and another crunch with the SLO model. It’s just…wow. I don’t wanna hear anyone ever say anything bad about modelers, especially the Helix. The argument between tube vs. digital is over as far as I’m concerned. I love em both, but your money (and creativity) goes WAY further with digital.
This has been a game changer for my hx stomp. I’ve been using the tonematched presets and the compression tricks have brought the stomp alive, it’s really addictive to play now
Hey - with the deluxe comp, what sort of gain reduction are you getting? I ask this as different guitars will hit it harder than others so just trying to gauge how much that threshold setting is affecting things. You are showing screen from helix edit which does not show the active level of the compressor which you can see on the pedal board itself.
Have you tried changing the input impedance to improve “feel”? I think it makes a difference, but it could just be in my head. I set it all the way to the right. 1M ohm
So it’s like a sag control that actually does something perceptible with maybe a little bit of speaker dampening simulation and something like a high SPL effect?
I have Kemper and I don’t like this “definition” thing. It just makes any profile to sound the same, it’s very gimmicky in my opinion. If you have your favourite profiles, you have to be very careful using this definition thing on them.
i never had Helix, i play bass and i wanted something that will sound good on both, I’ve tried Helix plug-in and didn’t like it on bass, so i bought Kemper Stage. One thing i hate about it - it’s heavy as fuck and screen sucks too, but we have iphone and ipad app, so who needs a screen.
tried the compressor and it made it worse... I have a distortion pedal on at all times in my chain, and clean up the sound by subtracting the input signal.

I love your videos and honest statements as well as your sense of humor. I hope for more of your helix related videos in the future
LA Studio Comp is my favorite helix comp. I use it the same way as you do. and 100% gives "the feels"..

I’m tempted to finally get myself a Felix. Nice compression settings, gotta try this out HW!
I’d hold off, Felix 2 is rumored to release soon! 😂
@@ToneJunkieTV Noooooooooo, mine is arriving tomorrow...:(
"Heel of the Felix"...I'd buy that shirt.
Super helpful!
Would be super keen for a two rock tone match down the line 👀👀

Very nice indeed. So I guess those are meant to be always on compressors that kinda become part of the amp sound itself.
Great tip! Thanks HW

always original unique thoughts on gear and licks!!
wait so you're leaving on both the compressors on?
Nice one
Have you thought about trying an Axe Fx 3 ?!!!
The kemper has the “Definition” option to change the tone. Does the helix have something similar?

Mars Astra ?? ready to buy???? for helix ??
Fixed my helix issue for 6 years by getting the Kemper profile stage😂
Jokes aside I have both of them like em both(leaning words Kemper more)😁

Victory Kraken tone match?! 💁🏻😅
Still sounds like the helix has no pick attack, so weird. Once you hear it/feel it, can't unhear it
omg, just bought the wrong marshall pack because I thought that these pack was already released, so awful
