One of the most underrated games honestly. I have been building a megapolis in trainz 2012 for 3 years. Every now and then i get back to it. The game gives you alot of freedom on map creation and exploration. Building something interesting and then driving on it is probably the best experience in this game.
That intro was badass. I love the train going around the corner with the race car noise.

I believe this game is more of a model train simulator than an actual train sim considering it is on about DCC
landy kid There's an option when you start the game what gauge you use (OO or Real etc)
That does make sense seems like he is playing in a mode where it could well be a model railway I'm still watching the video but looking down in the bottom right that looks like a model railway controller and the lack of scenery movement also points to a model railway setup watch this video and then probably getting it myself to be honest
landy kid There is also a realistic cab operation mode for Steam, Diesel, and electric locomotives. Full use of throttle, Train brake and independent brake levers, air supply and use gauges.
For steam you have to monitor steam pressure and water level in the boiler. You can use an automatic fireman or manage the fuel and water for the loc.
There are settings for realistic coupler stress, derail settings, train momentum based on weight, etc.. It can be as realistic as you want it to be.
Unfortunately, as others have pointed out, it is not that much better than Trainz 2012, 2010, etc.. and a lot more unstable.
I was part of the kickstarter and am pretty disappointed in the release product.

@Landy Kid Do you know anything about Trainz? DCC in Trainz means "simplified controls" like Squirrel said. T:ANE and TRS2019 are marketed as Train simulators and there is a separate Trainz: Model Railroad game that was released in 2017. Do some research before you comment on this.
It is kind of sad that I am a Kickstarter backer and I completely forgot about the game up until i seen you Video.
Another very good video Squirrel, but the game however isn't anything special of what I have heard and been told of. Loads of backers are not happy with the final result.

A a "veteran" of Trainz(been playing since Trainz 2009), this is a very interactive game. In 2009, you could take log cars up to a mountain logging landing, load the cars, and then slowly take them back down the mountain, modern logging operations where you just pull up to a logging camp and then load up, take the logs to the lumber mill and either chip them or cut into lumber, then take the chips to a stockpile at a port, load coal from the mine and take it to the power plant, or to the port, and grain trains + many other activities that I never figured out (I was only 10 at the time). I would love to see you run some user scenarios, and the in game ones with the steam locos. Like so squirrel sees this
i love the trainz simulators they always the type that have more detail than ts 2015/16 i hd trainz 2006 and the original one as well brings back so many memories thanks!

Cool looking game. It has the look of simulating an HO scale model railroad versus real world like Simulator does.

Also Squirrel for a steam engine, if the brake pressure gauge is lower than 18, the brakes are applied. If they are higher than 18, the brakes are released but it varies from steam engine to steam engine. For example one may have a brake pressure gauge that doesn't say brakes applied until it shows the number 35.
I'd love to see u play more of this. When u get a little better at it, I'd love to see some multiplayer

One of the best things about trainz is the AI. The best AI of any game. That and gmod has amazing AI.

Lovinatorka No what they have done is is made a new game engine that is backwards compatible with all of the content form all of the old versions of trainz and they are reusing old content. But most of the content made for this game is made by the community so N3V game just give us the game engine. So we can make the content for it witch can be a lot better then what you see here in the base game [oh and sorry about my bad English]

Hey just for the record you can move around in the cab by pressing the "[ ] " keys. At least that's how it is in previous trainz sims. Great video , plan on buying this thanks!!

The consis can be really long. like incredible. There is a scenario in Trainz: 2009 where you have to conduct a long as ore train in the Australian outback. It had six locomotives!

The coal constantly doing the animation was down to you putting the coal on constant input, if you did what it said by pressing space every so often, it would not have been on!

Also I believe that to get different views inside the cap, you can alternate between the [ and ] keys.
I started from first version. I brought Trainz: A New Era when was in beta. great sim.
I still have the ORIGINAL TRAINZ game, I like it better than all those other train sim games because you are able to CREATE THE TRACK AND EDIT THE TERRAIN!!!
you still have the editor in this one as well. There is also an editor in train simulator.

I don't have TANE but The ones I do have (12, 09, 06, 04 and the original) all have the exact same editor as the previous version, so unless they changed it in this version.. (which I highly Doubt)

Squirrel in America a train with lights off means the train is not in operation. When your in a train always turn your lights on. Your driving me crazy when you drive without your lights on.
Also when your freight train makes those coupling like noises, that means your I think creating a slack in your freight train.

This just makes me wish that SCS would make an expansion for ETS2 that would add trains and tracks to their existing map so they could expand the ways you deliver cargo across Europe. Their engine looks good currently and the weather and ai would make hauling stuff by rail a bit more varied.
you mentioned planning ahead for the gradients in steam engines, I wonder if in the maps there are indicators of slope such that you could actually point to the map and say wow, this part is really steep. I mean, I muse about this knowing the video is 7 years old :)
