Friends, in today's video we take a tour of Jack Ryder's Books in Liskeard, as well as another couple of very interesting shops in the town worth checking out. We then head to Nation Trust property, Lanhydrock House. We tour the house and ground plus their bookshop! At the end you'll see the books I found.

Hi Jules. What great shops especially the guy with all the games and stuff. It's amazing what you can find off the beaten track. Shame about the modest book haul but I guess we take what we can find these days. Nice travelog also 👍👍

Thanks Kenny. I do live in a beautiful part of the UK, especially when the sun is shining. If you're ever down this way, do let me know🙂

Thanks for the mention Jules, much appreciated. We have books from 50p but we also have books in the thousands, they are not usually on the shelves, a few are but mostly not. And yes we are always open to negotiation where it is possible., cheers. Jack

"It is what it is" is pretty much what I say to myself every time I walk out of a vintage bookshop empty-handed. Still, I think the pleasure has to come from the hunting rather than the finding (but easier said than done!). Great video though Jules. Jason.

Thanks Jason. You're absolutely right of course, it's the thrill of the Hunt. 🙂 This time, slim pickings but if I hadn't checked out the shop at the house I'm sure it would have been full of bargains!

    Jules
Very interesting video as ever. Occasionally our local National Trust Book Shop does produce good finds but just like a Charity Shop you have to visit regularly.

I used to live in Pensilva just outside Liskeard and as a child bought my books from the bookshop on the Main Street. I remember getting the puffin editions of The Tripods trilogy and asking every week for Pratchetts Wings to be out in paperback. I never knew that shop existed tho’-will pop in sometime. Fun video 👍😁

Thanks! It's pretty packed, as you saw, with plenty of Pratchett🙂

Oh, dear, Jules - you missed a vintage hardback Alistair MacLean copy of The Golden Gate in the Lanhydrock book shop.. If a first addition - and I suspect it might have been - it'll be worth a bob or two! ( depending on condition, of course ).

Ah yes, that probably wouldn't have been on my radar. It's no doubt still there 🙂

Hi Jules, not directly related to this video, but just for my To Read files, I think you have said that AKU AKU is your favorite Heyerdahl book?
The house on display in this video looks so beautifully appointed and historically accurate, it must be a real pleasure to experience in person. The signage is done so well and everything looks so lovingly preserved and presented. I loved seeing it through your expert camera’s eye. ❤

Thanks Glen, I've been trying to up my game on the camera front lately and I'm slowly making small improvements.
You're right, Aku Aku is my favourite of the big three Heyerdahl novels, well worth a read.
Lanhydrock was lovely, typical National Trust. Shame I didn't find anything in the bookshop🙂

Hi Jules: Thanks for the video. I always enjoy hearing your mentions of Plymouth -- in a couple of weeks, I'll be book-hunting in Plymouth Indiana...! A friend of mine owns a banquet hall there. It's not a big town, but it will be a very welcome stop on my long drive down to Indianapolis.

Great stuff, yes, sadly a few thousand miles between both Plymouths 🙂
