Friends, in today's video we take a look back at the incredible London Paperback and Pulp Fair as held on March 24th 2024. What an outstanding show. Incredible books, immense crowds, happy collectors!

Really great seeing all this again, Jules. Next time I'm leaving the camera at home and staying overnight the day before to get in on time. I missed so much stuff on the day.
It was just impossible to see it all, especially when it got really busy. It is indeed an art to shop at these events.

@paulmagrs2474 Afraid not Paul, it's pretty barren outside the capital but two good venues to visit, by appointment, if you can get to Dorset. Guaranteed about 125,000 books to look through😘
Hi Jules. Wonderful video of a great day. Haven't had such a good time in ages. This will serve as a permanent record in case I ever forget it - fat chance 😅. Lot of good interviews as well (although the bald bloke with the checked shirt and cockney accent was a bit iffy). It was good to meet you all and I hope you had as brilliant a day as I did.

A good deed done, Jules, spending so much time capturing the goings on! Very much liked it, especially the interviews. I do wish there were events like this in the region where I live. Always on the lookout, never see anything advertised so, it was good to see what a real book fair actually looks like! Cheers.

Great . My fave are the mixed box , you have no notion what you would find . Alas i would buy and buy , spending both lunch & transport funds 😊 . I saw some UA-cam channel folks . Kenny for example .The books, the books , and the company . Love the interviews . What can be better to a reader/hoarder than people talking books, there was something for every one and the prices were great . I could gush on and on , but " nuff said " Thank you .Ps Steve's video was also great . Nice haul .

Marvellous video, really captured the whole spirit of the day and what a day. It was a great book fair and I got quite a tidy haul of books, but the books you picked up were pretty great. Nice chatting with some sellers and some I met last time, and talking to you again, albeit very briefly, and Sci-fi Scavenger too! Can’t wait for the next one, which may require some planning on my part so I can make the most of the day and get me some of those books going for a quid. Already took away two bag load of books as it was.
What a day indeed, thanks my friend. Great to meet the other UA-camrs as well as so many paperback fans. Planning the day isn't a bad thing but things were so frantic from the moment the doors opened ....next one rumoured to be November 24th. 👍
@@JulesBurt I couldn’t believe the queue when I got there. It was insane. I usually end up leaving the fair after a couple of hours, but next time I want to hang around till closer to the end to see if I can pick up sum bargains. I’ll be definitely pencilling in 24th November in my calendar.
@hognatius_valentine9057 there were bargains to be had right until the end. Maurice from Zardoz with his stall full of £1 books. It's madness!
Great video from a great day, Jules, and I even pop up init a couple of times as incidental detail! I found some amazing books at amazing prices, even towards the end of the show when I made two of my best buys of the day, and it was also great to be able to take time out with friends at the pub across the road for Sunday lunch, and where a few other show customers also pitched up. It was also interesting to attend as a customer rather than a seller because I had far more time to browse the dealers' tables and to chat. As you say, there were some great bargains to be had, and generally at far lower prices than online asking or sold prices, and the shows have now become 'Can't Miss' events for vintage paperback and pulp fans. Roll on the next one, whether I attend as a buyer or seller (Or maybe both!)!

Great video, thank you. I had planned to go for some months but alas work commitments got in the way. It is lovely to see so many people there ……. although quite a ‘mature’ crowd 🙂
It's a fantastic show. I think the slightly older audience were for the ephemera fair rather than the paperbacks which was much more a mixture. Certainly younger readers were hunting the SF books in a big way.
That was amazing, i would have gone broke there! When i see those older titles like Frankenstein all jazzed up in exciting covers, i think of Seven Year Itch and Tom Ewells' character and his job repackaging old titles 😂sometimes with racy covers for books like Little Women 😅😅😅
That was definitely a thing back in the fifties. Lots of that available here. What a great show it was🙂
Great to see Stephen Jones! 👍 I love his books! Last time I saw him was at a convention in Scarborough two years ago. I live in Scotland: really hope he comes along to the SF Worldcon in Glasgow this August. I know he came to the previous two Glasgow Worldcons...

I talked to Steve and he is planning to go as he is meeting up with Silverberg there. He asked me if I'm attending, but costs, time of year and a general bad feeling I get about cons these days means it's a No for me.

I was just in London the first of February for a week. I searched all the used book stores i could find and i was shocked at how little used pulp books i could find. I was looking for the 70s Conan books and only found a couple. I was honestly shocked there was less comic book stores in London than in Halifax Canada. The used book stores only had small sections. Wish i knew about this book fair, i might have delayed my trip.
It's moving to twice a year going forward as it's so well attended. November 24th appears to be the next one.

Once again, many thanks for this video and for signal boosting the event. It just looks like manna from heaven. Would you suggest attending with a wish-list because I'm sure I could go away from this event thoroughly depressed that I couldn't buy the whole place up.
Well, I have my lists on my phone but in all the excitement and the thought of moving onto the next table, it's tough to refer to them. I sort of have a pretty good idea what I have though👍

That show did look like a lot of fun, you've picked up some nice paperbacks yourself... Recognised "The Space Merchants" in there... read that one and its sequel last year and thought it's a cracking story. Also found out that there was a radio broadcast based on that novel in two episodes, which you can listen to here on UA-cam as well. I thought that adaptation was enjoyable too.

Looks amazing, just a shame i can't afford the trip to London. I did look onto it and Greater Anglia were doing works that very weekend with a coach service only which would have got me to Liverpool St at lunh time.
Regarding 70s sleaze; i came across by chance the novelisations of all three 'Adventures of a...' movies by Stanley Long. Plus another title from that era and genre. Terrible movies but are products of their time and part of British cinema history.
Yes, a few people reported that the coaches and trains don't get into London until well after the show has started. People were still finding and buying books well into the last hour though. Next time!
@JulesBurt I like to be there reasonably early, fear of missing out. After lunch would have felt too late. I have pencilled in November date though!

Great video! Not sure we have SF pb fairs over here. Hi from Philadelphia, USA. Just getting back into SF and fantasy. I loved the original run of Elric series. Are all the books canon or did Moorcock expand the series? Having trouble finding this info. Thanks!
Thanks. I'm no Moorcock expert alas but there are some dedicated videos devoted to him and his Elric series.
