Just going to put this here in case anyone else had the issue I did. 1. I got the map at a good size but I wanted more grids so it would take the players a turn longer to cross from one end to the other. 2. I adjusted grid size like they outlined and got just what I wanted, however the map was now stretching beyond the boundary. 3. I went to page settings and doubled the page size to match the changes to the grid. Now everything is perfect!
I cannot effectively state how counter-intuitive Roll 20 is as a DMing system. I could see if adding special effects like lighting or line of sight needed multiple tutorials, but plopping a picture on a piece of grid paper should be simplicity itself.
Another useful trick is that even if you turn off the grid, you can still set units for whatever you like. Miles, milometers or light years. Useful for world maps and figuring out travel times.
For sure. Gray also does a better job of blending in with the outer background too. I secretly want the option for a wooden table texture. I think that would go great with a lot of these game aesthetics.
Is there some editing mode that I can't get into or something? My roll 20 looks very different to this. Like at 1:28, I don't have any of those options. I have "settings" "select" "pan" "draw" etc.
Somehow I can line up the left and right side by resizing, but there's a discrepancy _in the middle._ My brain figures the discrepancies should accumulate exponentially toward the opposite side of alignment, but if it's exclusively the lines in the middle, is the original image warped? I checked to see if I had resized it so much that I skipped a square, but I didn't, it literally just misaligns by 3 pixels in the middle, and is aligned on both the right and left side.
Solved. I'm a doofus. The guy that usually DMs in my friend group saw it immediately; the map was 2 layers of a dungeon and the grids of the separate maps were not aligned. I split the maps in 2 in Photoshop and aligned them individually.
Literally nothing you did in this video i can do in my roll 20. Has it changed THAT much. Im losing my fucking mind trying to get the grid to work but its just not.
I hope this video helps! Let me know if you have any tips or creative ways you use for setting up your map.
I first was introduced to you on Coffin Run, so its like Wetzel is giving me the instructions :)
Loved the tutorial and how thorough it was
I've been using Roll20 since 2013 and I didn't even know all those tricks (especially the last one). Great video Roll20 team!
Thanks for the shout out! Glad we can help!
7:17 I can't get it to align no matter how I rezise it. I give up, players will have to make due without the grid. So frustrating

This video is such a life saver for my DM, thank you so much for the easy and straight forward tutorial.😁
Cragmaw Castle was the exact map I needed help for lmao. Thanks for the tutorial.

This is really useful. I knew 90% of it but not the Alt+ trick for negating snapping.
Awesome, glad we could help. Try alt when rotating and moving tokens as well!

Most useful video I have found for starters! Thank You so much!
Thanks bro you are the G.O.A.T!
Thank you so so much. I had such trouble with this for the longest time. This really helped.
TY Carlos! Been using Roll20 for a good while, but still a few useful new things learned in here!!
Awesome. Glad I could help!
Hello! Great video! Do you know how to change the measurements from ft to meters? I am getting crazy trying to figure it out
Super useful. Thank you for this.
Thanks SO MUCH!
I am struggling, Alt is not working it keeps snapping back to the grid
You can change the default new page colour, I like a medium gray so that my eyes don't go blind.
For sure. Gray also does a better job of blending in with the outer background too. I secretly want the option for a wooden table texture. I think that would go great with a lot of these game aesthetics.
my god thank you
awesome ty
why do you guys have like 4 videos on aligning to a square grid and not a single one for hex grid which is clearly the more difficult one to align
Is it possible to move a map from one game to another?
When I rightclick, I do not have those options!!! WHY?!?!?!?!?!
Is there some editing mode that I can't get into or something? My roll 20 looks very different to this. Like at 1:28, I don't have any of those options. I have "settings" "select" "pan" "draw" etc.
The settings are there they're just updated because this video is outdated lol

Sadly the Background layer shown at 1:42 doesn't exist anymore
The whole map layer thing just isnt showing for me
Literally nothing you did in this video i can do in my roll 20. Has it changed THAT much. Im losing my fucking mind trying to get the grid to work but its just not.
Don't have this video listed if you changed the UI. It's confusing.
when I right click the map it says edit undo and paste. How do i get rid of this. I got the map options to show one time.
Gotta make sure you're in the map editor and not tokens and what not
Doesn't work. Roll20 is trash. None of your how tos work even close to how the actual site is.
why i don't have "align to grid" option?
