I had a parakeet when I was a teen. Unfortunately he came from a petstore.. it was a long time ago because I named him Wilson after the volleyball in castaway. We were very bonded .I finally decided to get a small animal as companion recently. My sister brought it to me for my Birthday. My new lovebird has been here for 24 hours now. I ordered a HUGE Flight Cage (The biggest one I could find with appropriate spacing) and lots of things you and others suggested. Hes still a BB. Only 8 weeks. I am so excited for the reward of bonding with him. I Never push him to do anything he doesnt want to. I want him to be so bonded maybe someday he can snuggle in my hair to sleep 💕
I’ve had my new 2-month old budgie for one week and he already gets on my hand! He came from a very loving household where he was held around all the time so day one with him was very chill. I already target trained him with millet and he gets super excited when hhe sees me 🥺. I can’t thank you enough. I’ve had my other bird for months and he’s slowly starting to trust me more and more. He’s in the process of getting target trained so it’s a bit more work but thank you so much! I learned so much from your channel. ❤️
I have a budgie named Skye. I had him for about a year now. He's tamed and took me about 5 months. I watched this video during the process and really helped! Thank you.
I've been following your story on Violet since you went to get her. I think you're content for gaining trust from your bird is EXCELLENT! I love your channel and look forward to what's ahead on your channel!
I don't have any birds and I've never had birds and I basically know nothing about birds so watching your videos has really helped me understand birds. I want to eventually get a bird but first I want to know everything I can. Thank you!
Well I have that type of bird, mango loves flying, you have to train them to come to you if they’re flying, orrrrr,if they are flying a lot, bring a treat and hold it if they fly, don’t give them the treat, but the bird will learn my bird does not fly a lot anymore,I’m sorry if you don’t understand.
I’m soooo happy I’m found your channel cause I feel like I’m neglecting my birds I love them very very much and I want to love them and for them to be happy and I admit that I let them stay in their cage for a long period of time and I have been feeding them a seed diet and now I’m looking at your UA-cam videos and learning on how I can make my baby’s feel happy and I’m trying to feed them better food and I’m trying to get help from an expert to help and if you are reading this can you give me some advice to make them trust me again and everything thank you from your time
After buying a 7 week old cockatiel who was parent raised, I was worried about how they would behave as my previous cockatiel was hand-reared. This video has helped me so much and in the space of two weeks he is tame and will step up on command. I am so grateful for your tips and advice, thank you!!
dog59553 my budgie went back to the cage by himself after a couple of hours of flying around. He needs to eat every couple of hours and the food is in the cage so he knew that he had to get in to eat and drink water.
mine would just fly in after a little while, and if they refuse to do such, try to lure them by using treats to get them to either fly into the cage or to sit on your hand, so that you will be able to take them to the cage
I did this exactly step by step and my birds started eating from my hands the same day ! I've had them for a bit over a month and they hadnt warmed up to me a lot (i tried other bonding videos). I found this one and i have a feeling this will definitely work !! UPDATE: Yesterday I continued following these steps and one of my birds is learning to step up ! Since that is pretty much the last step, I am going to do 15 minute training sessions with that birds so they get more comfortable with stepping up. I'm also hoping my other birds learn by example !!
Because of you I got my birds more comfortable with me. My bird goose cane out yesterday while I was just sitting around. Today I got both maverick and goose to come out. I got them to come on to my perch and got them out.
Congratulations on getting Violet! I love when you do these videos about birds. Especially budgies. I think they are misunderstood birds. This is how I tamed my budgies. At least Rocky. Tico is still a bit harder but getting better. By the way Tico is never getting clipped again. Flying is so awesome for them. Rocky had scissor beak once. Easy fix for her. Love your flock!❤💙🐦🥰

Hi ellie or anyone else that is reading this, these tips are really useful and actually work.My two budgies were really scared before but after I followed these easy tips they are less spooked and are getting used tome.Thank you ellie.
Wow! This was super helpful! I just bought an extremely skittish (and untamed) adult parakeet that will frantically try to fly away when I slightly move my hand. Going to try these tips and hopefully build trust :)
I've only know one other budgie as calm as Violet and that was my Frenchie who was also a sky blue budgie. His backstory was he was bought from a general store way back when. Apparently he used to escape his enclosure which house other budgies and would be loose for a couple days at a time ( they did leave food and water out for him). When I saw him at the store he was the only one in the group that would come to the glass side to be near people. I knew right then that he was the one and he proved to be a very well behaved and tame bird.
I just started volunteering at a rescue and i am so grateful for your videos, Elle! You're very friendly towards beginners, keep things concise and have a pretty chill vibe. Im currently trying to get as much experience with parrots as possible, since i would love to rescue and want to make certain I will give them the best life possible.
I just got two new baby budgies that were handled by the breeder and are so chill! I am so excited to bond with them. Today they came out and stepped up and enjoyed budgie sounds on youtube and finally are eating. Thanks for your helpful video. My cockatiel of 13 years is happy to have chatter!
This video is incredibly helpful! I think you structured the information in this video perfectly and I felt like every single piece of information that you gave was meaningful and important. There was never a time when I felt like you were not giving me info that I needed. I also really enjoyed that you explained that for example, if a bird was flying around it's cage, it is scared but since yours was still it was calm. You really did a great job at explaining both sides to the situation, if that makes sense. You made this video universal so that it could help people with a lot of situations. Great job and thanks for the help.

Hey, I desperately need help, so ever since we got them (2 birds), my family can't afford to give them an accurate cage, we have a cage that was offered from a pet store. Recently we found out that it was a girl and boy. We named them Willow and Sweetie. I try to avoid direct eye contact, and I have let them out in my room TWICE. The boy, Willow is very scared of me. Sweetie enjoys my presence more, but not as much as your birds do. It seems that Willow has bonded with Sweetie, and refuses to play with me. We got them a few days ago, so I don't know what to expect. Both birds are pretty much scared of me, but Sweetie has stood on my finger when she was in the room with me. I don't know if their wings are clipped, but they can barely fly. They don't eat it if it's from my hand, and I'd stick my hand in the cage for about 15-20 minutes but they still refuse. I have given them apples, celery, and some treats from the pet store. They refused all of them unless I leave them on the cage floor. Is this normal?
Be very careful when feeding them celery! I would even advise entirely against it because of the fibers in it which can clog up their crops! research what other foods are good for birds, and feed them a varied diet with fruit only being a rare treat (it's too high in sugar). As to the taming, keep your hands out of their cage, especially if your cage is small. Their cage should be their safe space, and somewhere where they can go to when they are overwhelmed or scared to calm down. It also sounds like they're clipped, so be careful when you're letting them out since they cant just up and fly away to run away from danger. For the first few days, I would personally say letting them be in their cage and interacting with them by talking to them would be best, but considering their cage is likely extremely small, it's best to release them daily for a few hours (supervised, of course). Leave some spray millet close to you, not directly on you, and either only say something in the kind of voice you'd use for babies to them when they come over close to you to eat their treats, or completely ignore them until they look comfortable. Repeat and push the boundaries bit by bit. It's really all about trust, so learn to understand your birds' body language and vocal language and work as a team.
@@kayla-vn1yc My bird refuses to eat millet. I don't know why. She just seems scared of it. After an hour or two in her cage on the first day she was chirping and flying around. If I turn on budgie noises she loves that. I let her out of her cage yesterday for about 4 hours but it took another hour to get her back in her cage. She finally landed on a perch and we had enough time to put her back in the cage. She steps up onto my finger and I want to reward her but she is afraid of the millet.

Hey Elle, I don’t know if you read comments anymore - but thank you! I got my cockatiel 3 days ago, and we’ve already bonded closely based on everything you’ve done here. I’ve let my sweet baby go at her own pace, let her choose what she’s comfortable with, used millet as a treat and motivator (no pressing against bellies or anything) and already she likes to come out of her cage, climb on me, and step up. She even lets me give her little scritches and pats (I always ask permission first and she bows her head down)! I’m very lucky I found you before I got a bird, because I did a ton of research and you really helped me figure out good cage sizes and looks, how to gain my bird’s trust, and so on. I’m sure some, if not most birds, are probably not as outgoing - but I’m really lucky my sweet girl is. She’s so friendly and social, and I figure as long as I respect her boundaries we’ll be friends for a long time!!
Thank you I love this video because because it helps my me get my birds. Trust this video helped me in two days to get my bird to just step on my hand. Thank you for posting this.

Hey elle I have a question that I've been thinking about a lot, so basically I've been obsessed with birds for years and I've researched them quite a bit (maybe not as much as you tho lol) anyway I have always wanted want and I might be close to getting one maybe next year but one thing that I've always been a little worried about is how to keep your bird happy while you're gone and what's the longest amount of time you should leave them? I know you can use foraging toys too keep them entertained but I feel like that won't apply for longer hours, soon I'll be doing and apprenticeship where I'll be working 8:30 till 4ish Monday to Friday and I really don't want to cause them any unhappiness. I'll be getting normal school holidays aswell so I'll have more time for them then but I just wanna make sure I can do all I can for my future birds 🐦 ps. Love the channel and I wish you success ❤️🐧
Thank you for being responsible and researching all that you can! Education is so important when you have birds. I’m in high school so I too have to be away for 7 hours, I do feel guilty but I spend all my time at home with my birds. They get to spend their entire afternoon/evening with me. Quality of time is also very important - #engagednotcaged ❤️

I love how you explained everything. I was so helpless because I have bought 2 cockatiels and they are not tame at all, too scary and they are not used to humans. I will definitely start doing your advices, because that’s the best explanation video I‘ve seen so far. Thank you so much🙏🏽
Has it gotten better with your birds?
Nisha Haymond any update
I want him to be so bonded maybe someday he can snuggle in my hair to sleep 💕
wow thats a really cool cat!
I knew about them feeling safer when they're at a higher altitude than you but didn't know of the not stare bit. Thanks for the tips.
Lucky my indian ringneck just try to bite me
I have a budgie named Skye. I had him for about a year now. He's tamed and took me about 5 months. I watched this video during the process and really helped! Thank you.
Wow! That's fabulous progress. I can't believe it. I don't think Marlene could have her step up right?
Great informative video.
Thank you! I don’t know if she stepped up for Marlene but she did come out. She’s doing so great!
Love of pets I actually thought it was you taking the budgie when she said another bird UA-cam
My thought: OK, after this video it's time to get back to work. After video: sees Cage Setup. Me: Screw working, lemme watch this first!
Thank you!
Same here
Dont forget to adopt 2, they are social animals
When I first got my budgie, she never stood on anyone's hand, instead she sat on people's heads 😂
Did she poop on them?
OMG LUCKYYYYY
Mine’s done that too 😂 wouldn’t go on my hand but he’d go on my head
Aww
Alison Parkinson haha
I love how calm you talk and demonstrate then the other birds are just being chaotic
What if the bird starts flying around like a maniac in the room when you open the cage
@Edward Andrus ive just done the same
You can always just sit completely still in the room when it flys around until it gets calm
My 2 fly around like crazy then fly up to the highest point in my room
Its probably just having fun. Budgies have similar reactions to a lot of things but I dont see why it would be scared or mad to fly freely
Excellent advice about quarantining and taking her to the vet before introducing to the flock!
I’m soooo happy I’m found your channel cause I feel like I’m neglecting my birds I love them very very much and I want to love them and for them to be happy and I admit that I let them stay in their cage for a long period of time and I have been feeding them a seed diet and now I’m looking at your UA-cam videos and learning on how I can make my baby’s feel happy and I’m trying to feed them better food and I’m trying to get help from an expert to help and if you are reading this can you give me some advice to make them trust me again and everything thank you from your time
Me too I felt bad but just kept on taming her and now she’s out side the cage alot
You are so helpful.I’m getting 2 budgies and this is exactly what I need!
It actually works

After buying a 7 week old cockatiel who was parent raised, I was worried about how they would behave as my previous cockatiel was hand-reared. This video has helped me so much and in the space of two weeks he is tame and will step up on command. I am so grateful for your tips and advice, thank you!!
She is so precious, you are a great owner/friend to her!
Thank you so much!
Live Laugh Birds of course beautiful
When taming a bird, how can u get them back in their cage on the first day? Will they do it by themselves?
I would love to know the answer to this also please
dog59553 my budgie went back to the cage by himself after a couple of hours of flying around.
Yes he will cause the food is in there and that is where they sleep or for mine lol I hope that helped
nothing like that should be done on the first day. training shouldn’t start with a new bird within a few days to a week
I'm also hoping my other birds learn by example !!
sounds a bit like how to train your Dragon

So thank you for you videos 💙
Congratulations on getting Violet! I love when you do these videos about birds. Especially budgies. I think they are misunderstood birds. This is how I tamed my budgies. At least Rocky. Tico is still a bit harder but getting better. By the way Tico is never getting clipped again. Flying is so awesome for them. Rocky had scissor beak once. Easy fix for her. Love your flock!❤💙🐦🥰
Thank you so much!! I totally agree, budgies are misunderstood. They’re full of love just like any other bird! I’m so happy that your birds get to enjoy flying! Thank you for being an awesome bird mom ❤️🦜
Great video!!! Very informative; I’ve owned budgies for 15 years and still learned new things. It’s wonderful that you’re putting out this content, especially to help others become better bird keepers. Thank you.💜

Hi ellie or anyone else that is reading this, these tips are really useful and actually work.My two budgies were really scared before but after I followed these easy tips they are less spooked and are getting used tome.Thank you ellie.
I really want a bird, but this video really shows how patient you have to be. I’m gonna have to try really hard to be patient while taming/training 😅
I like how you said that you apdot her and she slowly moves her head and looks at you 😂💀

Thank you so much for all your help. You are making a huge difference in the lives of our bird friends.
Thanks so much for this ❤️ I'm so excited for my birds to actually not be scared of me anymore!!!!

Hiam Koujan yes maybe out a plate at the bittom of the cage. keep showing them your presence is ok
Same problem here. 8 months later and my birds wont cooperate. Really frustrating. I have tried everything. Nothing works.
Thank you from the UK for making this and all the other video's you have made. We just got a 6YO pair of galahs which have not really been hand rearer or even let out of the cage very much we ink so your knowledge of your subject is astounding and has been really helpful. And the thing i really like about your vids is the fact that you get straight into the subject without waffling on about non related stuff.
The delivery is very professional too so i hope your either going to be a vet or a journalist.
Anyhow thanks again from all of us just starting out with these lovely cteatures.

Can you make a video about how outfit your cockatiels cage so they don’t get bored while your at school? I’m looking into getting some but I want to know how to make sure their cages are properly equipped.
This video was so helpful my bird is now stepping up consistently he was really nervous at first but then after this video was over he was perfectly fine and would step up all the time I have two cockatiels and one of them is super calm and flight trained the other one is a little bit less tamed but he is still an amazing bird he is sitting right next to me right now
What a informative video! Good job! And Also congratulations on 5k!! That's amazing!☺💘
Thank you so much!! ❤️❤️
Thank you so much,These videos really made my day and now I feel more confident about taming my birds☺️

I would love a big bird, but they’re so demanding and I’m still in school. I wouldn’t be able to give one the constant attention they need. Thank you!
I’ve been wanting a bird for a year now. I’ve been binge watching your videos and doing research. I hope I get a budgie soon!!
im looking forward for a companion (Ok i might be a freak for liking loud animals and loving animals that bite) .
im looking for a companion that:
•Screams EVERY time
•wants attention 24/7
•steals your food
•does bite
•requires a lot if patience (so that i can spend more extra time with that animal.)
•real messy (So that i can clean my house more)
•that will make me have no vacation
Do you think i should get a bird? i mean i did research for 7 months about birds only.
Definitely :)
Yes! I feel like cockatiels will be good for you!
Maybe budgies?
Birds are perfect for you! If you do get one/some, good luck!

Hi I've started taming one of my Budgies! I'm hoping the other one will want to interact with me!! This vid has really helped! I've also decided to get them a new flight cage 😃
The solution is to get more than one bird and have them in one big cage so that they can interact with each other.
Its been so many months since I've had my cockatiel, she hasn't bonded with me and to be honest I haven't put to much effort. I'm going to now start over thank you so much!
thx for this i got my bird 2 months ago and he doesn trust me! I have another bird and millet so thx i will try this!
Never give up! Let me know how it goes! 💜
