- Puss in Boots The Last Wish was ironically everything I could have wished for in a Dreamworks film, a Shrek film and just an animated film in general! Action, adventure, gorgeous animation and amazing villains! And now that it's officially on streaming services, I decided to take a dive deep into it and make an Animation Multiverse featuring the frisky feline! So let's see what would happen if Puss grabbed the wishing star map, entered the Dark Forest all by himself and actually made his wish for more lives thanks to his fear and anxiety! No interactions with other characters, no happy memories with Kitty Softpaws or Perrito, no villainous interruptions from Goldilocks and The Three Bears or Jack Horner, just him and his 3 emotional obstacles. Oh and the big bad Death wolf of course. He's still gonna be following him. X) Warning, this might be a little darker than most of my AUs. Heck, you could call it a straight up darkfic. But I feel like this is what would happen if Puss did gain immortality in the end. Overall, feel free to tell me what you think of this in the comments!

It's remarkable how people have reacted to this movie. When it was first announced, a Puss sequel years and years after the original, I doubt anyone had that many hopes for it. But now look at it. One of the most popular films of the year. Incredible 😊

I mean you can't doubt DreamWorks when it comes to sequels but even I thought it would only be just good but better than the first one, but not expecting a genuine masterpiece

I'm personally a big puss in boots fan, so I really hoped it's good. Can say it didn't disappoint
I can imagine at some point in the future of this timeline, Puss sees Death arrive for someone who he's formed a bond with, and rather than look at him with resentment or anger, Death looks at Puss with something akin to pity. That is, until Puss simply says "why don't we go for a drink", greeting the reaper like an old friend. Because at this point, he's seen people die hundreds if not thousands of times.
That just hits on another level good lord...
I can see this happening with Kitty. When Death comes for her, he's apologetic to Puss, "I'm sorry old friend, but it's just her time now..." To which Puss responds, "...Well then, old friend? It is my time now, too."
Personifications of Eternal Death and Eternal Life hanging out together, the former teaching the value of one's life and the latter teaching the value of learning from someone else's life, both sharing the same big picture goal of teaching the living of how to live their one life to the fullest.
Except he has time to fix it by waiting for the next wishing star and some options that come with it. Turn back the clock to before the first wish, undo the wish, gaining the means to share the lives, or a purpose with fulfilment much like deaths fate.

He walks away into the shadows.

This interpretation of the star trying to help those who search for it in two different ways is now canon for me
I honestly thought it was more to make it impossible for people with darkness in their hearts so they wouldn't make a evil wish with devastating results. But this is a interesting concept too.

Man, talk about a "Bad Ending?", that genuinely got a tear out of me, it hit so hard but had a very bittersweet finish. Absolutely remarkable AU video, this certainly does change the perspective of things greatly.
It was a good ending because no one could have predicted it since it went against every story conventions we've seen in movies. That uniqueness makes it better than just a "happy ending" trope.

I almost thought I was the only one. I kept a stiff upper lip until the revelation that the P is being reused for Perrito. TORE MY GUTS OUT.
Honestly, the party that suddenly ends is such a good metaphor for life at the end.
If this story continued, I almost feel like Puss would become the antithesis of death in a way, an immortal cat hellbent on teaching those who suffer that life is still worth living, and that they should cherish every moment they have-even the bad ones.
The ultimate therapy cat, to help people in their desire to live in the now and for the future, rather than for some grand ideal.
I can see death while still hating Puss for wishing for infinite lifes gaining a sort of respect for him because of that. After realizing what a mistake he made he now helps others not make the same one.

Weirdly I can imagine he sees death at random times but instead of trying to kill puss he just looks disappointedly at him and walks away
Since Puss is immortal, Death had no reason to torture him. He would just feel defeated and no longer fear death, but wished he could die.
I think it was a bit of a missed opportunity that Jack Horner never got the map prior to being at the wishing star itself. Would have been interesting (and probably hilarious) to see what kind of locations or obstacles the map would have shown... or if the map itself would have been like "Shit, I definitely can't let this guy make a wish!"

@@fightinggamegeek9238 well the idea behind the land of dealt cards would be capitalising on Jacks childhood and how he lived a good one. The whole point of this land is to say that jack has no reason to be this kind of bad person because unlike other antagonists he had a good go in life Jack himself even admits that he had: loving parents, stability, a mansion, and a thriving baked goods enterprise. Normally most villains live a bad life up until they lead into their antagonistic role but Jack was given a good one in essence he was dealt a good hand in life where most other villains would not have been so fortunate. the whole point of the land of dealt cards would have been to show Jack that he should be thankful for what he does have and to see the people around him have less so he gets an idea about how lucky he is to have gotten this far in life.

It would depend on how important Puss is from now on. Let me give you an example; let's say that in Shrek 5 he makes a sacrifice to defeat the villain who was about to kill everyone and win. Well, if Puss isn't there then no one would make said sacrifice to defeat the villain and everyone would die. Did I explain myself?
Tldr: Depends on what would Puss' role be in the future, his death at the hands of death could change from only a sad moment to something that would affect dramatically the entire future.

That took a VERY dark turn, but I enjoyed this alternate ending. It shows that Puss definitely made the right choice in the movie. Also, when you asked "What does fire do best?" I can't help feeling like there was a missed opportunity to play a clip of Donkey singing "Burn, baby burn" from Far Far Away Idol.
I think the second saddest thing about this timeline is that, even though it was unmentioned, Puss would probably still age and get hurt because he has infinite lives, not a single life that would last an infinite amount of time. The Kenny form of immortality. Who knows, maybe Death would've even come back once a month or something just for torture's sake.

Yea I feel like death would make a regular habit of killing puss, probably making it painful so he actually cares, who knows, maybe he'd even capture him so he can spend eternity being deaths stress toy as punishment

I wonder if the idea of Death hating Puss for having so many extra lives that he wastes frivolously was due to how he himself is practically immortal like he is also warning Puss that immortality is not worth it in the end.
Maybe in an epilogue, Death visits Santa Columbia to take down more dead souls, only to hear them talk about people who have long since died, treating them like legends. Tales of green ogres saving princesses, eggs plotting revenge against the city, and even more minor stuff like legendary bakers and crafters. This isn't that unusual, but with these stories going across the entire world, from Far Far Away to even the ears of Goldilocks in an isolated forest, Death starts to wonder just how many different tales spread out to so many other far-off places. Then, he notices a gathering in the town circle, dedicated to a particular cowardly cat...only, he isn't talking about himself or his own feats, but rather the feats and lives of others. Sure, some people still try to praise him for his own deeds and the lives he saved, but he brushes them aside, saying how the focus should really be on those who have come and gone, with this gathering being to celebrate the life of Mama Emelda and those she helped in her orphanage. While Puss is talking about her, he freezes his conversation, looking at Death, who looks back at him with a bit of intrigue. He no longer sees the cocky feline that ran away to infinite lives, but rather the profile of a humbled mammal who learned to respect and care for others instead of himself. After a moment of gazing, with Puss no longer having any fear, but a look of regret and understanding of how badly he screwed up, Death just gives a soft laugh before walking off, muttering to himself "Guess all you needed to respect me was to understand my point of view, gato." The crowd will then instinctively ask Puss who the heck that was, with Puss telling them about Death, why he is important, and his regret in trying to run away from him.
We could even get a further flash forward into the even more distant future, with there being literally no one else left, but Puss and Death. The world has all but ended, leaving Puss with that same big beard on his face, sitting on a hill and watching the sunset, looking out on a town with a statue of Mama Emelda, Perrito, and Shrek right in the center. He hears a familiar whistle come up from behind him, with Puss not even being afraid of Death or his presence. However, instead of trying to kill Puss, Death just sits down next to him, looking out onto the town with him. He asks Puss about the wish, and if he understands why Death tried to stop him and kill him right there and then, Puss answers by asking Death "Is this how you feel?". Death confirms this, saying how his job is all about making sure the natural order is kept in balance, and that while other fairy tales and people can make their own paths in lives, he's stuck doing the same thing every day, being all alone. He then looks out at the town again, and comments on how he didn't see any statues of Puss himself, with Puss responding that he was going to be around forever, whenever he wants to or not, so the least he can do is make sure the legends of everyone around him could live on. Death comments on Puss's character again, saying while he may have been a coward by running away to more lives, he at least made the most out of the situation. He then makes a joke saying how MAAAYBE scaring Puss while on that star when he was content to just turn around back at the cave wasn't such a good idea if he wanted to get Puss's last life. Puss in turn asks Death a hypothetical question: say he only has one life to live, just what would he do with it? "Honestly, the same thing you did with your first life; live bright and loud for all to see to create a legend for myself, so my name would never die. You may be immortal now, but you sacrificed your legend just to help the legend of others grow..." After a couple moments, Death stands up and tells Puss to get up, gesturing to a tombstone that wasn't there when Puss got here. The ground slowly opens up, revealing staircases that lead to the underworld. "I may not be able to kill you, but I can still take you down. Come. Our feud is over. You deserve your peace..." Puss gets closer to the stairs and starts to slowly get down, only to hear familiar voices, all calling out to him, as if welcoming his arrival. Perrito, Kitty, Emelda, Shrek, and so on, are all more than happy to finally be reunited with their friend. Death starts to walk down, closing the Earth behind him, as the credits roll.
This actually would've made me start bawling my eyes out

Reminds me of Alucard and Anderson. While Alucard pleads for Anderson to stay a mortal as the former desires to be slayed by a mortal only for Anderson to morally nerf himself by using Helena's nail to become a monster, irritating Alucard.

Technically the Wishing Star isn't destroyed, so one day it will return. Puss has only to wait and find the map again. He has to wait centuries, but one day he will can desire to give his immortality back. At this point Puss will find Death again, but this time he is happy to see him, and Death too is happy to see how much he matured

And maybe he would wish to come back to where he was and restart again, kind of like with Shrek in forever after 👀

You know, something I feel is a little bit subtle in Puss’s encounter with Death is that Puss only effectively gets scared frozen when he realizes he’s *bleeding.* This is a subtle but noticeable enough callback to Puss saying he’s never been touched by a blade. The fact that Death’s blade not only touched his fur but broke through his skin and made him bleed was Puss’s full moment of realization during their brief quarrel that he couldn’t defeat Death, and since he was on his last life this fear escalated into anxiety at even a subtle memory of what he believed to be a bounty hunter at first.
I imagine that in this particular timeline after Puss gains immortality and after returning for old man Perrito, he begins to make friendships and rekindle old friendships again. He stays with his friends and cares for them in life and when Lobo comes to guide them into death Puss respectfully hands over responsibility of their care to him. Two eternal guardians of the world, one for helping people live long fulfilling lives and another to help those reach eternal rest. Puss then becomes Lobo's foil as Life, showing people how to live a grateful and fulfilling life filled with joy, love, and wonder while reassuring them that it all must come to an end eventually and to not fear when death comes, for the life they led was beautiful and death comes for us all.
FUCK this alternate story was DARK. I can only imagine how many children would’ve cried in the theatre if that were made instead. But seriously tho dude good job with the theory. PHENOMENAL! I’m sooo beyond impressed.
To be honest, before I saw the movie, I thought that Puss had already made his wish and the Shrek movies were after his wish.
My theory was that he wished to be immortal so he could be "the Legend that will never die".
But, after his wish was granted, Kitty sadly told him that he would have to outlive everyone he had ever loved.
Omg, that would be such a revile, and the story would only need to change a tiny bit.
My goodness, this is no longer a mere fanfiction... I could genuinely see this be the way movie panned out and I'd still enjoy it _almost_ as much! It's crazy how talented you are with alternate timeline conception, I am never disappointed to hear your take on *any* media.
It would definitely not have panned out this way without being rated R or at least a pg-13 rating, the whole zombie thing and perrito dying is too scary and depressing for a kids film.
Honestly, I was happily surprised that he managed to find some solace in a bad ending where i thought he would merely be forced to lament on his poor decisions as time went on.

Pretty sure Perito's would just be flowers and sunshine, wish to be a therapy dog, he helped people until he died finding fulfilment in the lives he helped.

Kitty would go through her path, maybe one section is based around "yknow you can trust your loved ones right?", like, there would be identical copies of the people she knows, probably talking about their feelings on kitty, showing that kitty has people that she can trust, she probably makes her wish, and then, someone perfect for her should appear. But in a twist of events, puss himself appears. Which would make kitty feel disappointed, she feels like maybe she wasnt specific? Regardless, they start talking, about their pasts and stuff. Kitty told him the wish she was, thus, making puss realize the reason of this entire conversation, so he proceeds to apologize for everything he did to her.
What would’ve happened if Big Jack Horner made his wish? Would all the fairytale creatures turn human?

Maybe something like Forever After with Rumple in charge.
I can imagine Jack pretty much going full Farquaad/Prince Charming. He uses his new magic powers to pretty much trap and destroy the old homes and lives of the magical fairy tale creatures. Those without powers like Shrek will be kept as slaves. Becoming the new king of Far Far Away, he raises up villains who want to help him keep his control over the land in exchange for their own happily ever afters of triumphing over the heroes, and if push comes to shove, he’ll just force them under penalty of death. He makes sure Pinocchio is turned into a floor for him to perform his nursery rhyme on, forcing citizens out every hour just to do his “what a good boy am I” song. A resistance to this group rises up, led by Puss In Boots, with Kitty, Perriro, Goldielocks, the Three Bears, and Ethical Bug joining in alongside some other fairy tale creatures. During a climatic battle where Puss sacrifices himself to save Kitty, he ends up getting a very nasty cut. The battle is halted when a familiar whistle is heard, with Death entering the picture. Jack pretty much mocks Puss, saying he he’s going to enjoy watching Death take Puss’s last life. Death just says “not yet”, and aims his sickle at Jack, saying how arrogant and prideful he was, thinking he was above death with all that magic. Jack starts to panic and throw every magical item at Death, only for Death to just brush it all off before using his sickles to cut Jack down. He than starts to go for Puss, only for everyone else in the room to try and stop him. However, Puss stands up, still bleeding up, and picks up his sword, saying how he knew this day would come, since he still got that reality check fight with Death before the fight with Big Jack Horner, knowing he will at least die fighting for his life. Death just chuckles and primed his weapons. Puss ends up losing despite a admirable last effort, but before dying, asks if Kitty and Perrito will at least live long lives, to which Death at least confirms they will live longer than he did. Puss is more than content with that answer, and lets Death take his last life. While Puss may be dead now, his legend still lives on, with the resistance against Jack Horner coming together to help build a statue of him in the middle of Santa Coloma in his honor of his deed fighting against Jack Horner.
@@kingvideogames That’s a brilliant concept! I had always imaged as Puss going with Death peaceful due to old age or something of less climatic end for him, not another fight. But I like what you’ve thought of, it could even be a good alternative movie like Forever After was for Shrek. Perhaps maybe if the next movie revealed Jack somehow survived (heavily doubt it), it could be plausible. But I’d settle for a fan work made of the concept.

I tell you what had happened. If Puss in boots had made his wish of recover all his lifes, then Death would had take that personal (more personal that it already was) and would had kill Gato 9 times without play with him.
he had infinite lives in this one, that being why he switched up and wished for infinite lives.
Puss becoming immortal would make him a perfect opposition of death, life, he would be there for eternity to save people from death, the same way death is there to put people to rest.
Okay i have to say is somewhere and i don't care if you hate me, but Deaths line: ''i thought Puss in Boots laughs at death, but you're not laughing now'' was the best line in the entire movie.

Tbh, a lot of people speculated first in Encanto that Mirabel did have powers, but were entirely destructive (tearing down Casito and depowering everyone), like she was Shigaraki and AFO in one, and that the guilt and outcomes weighing upon her, if she did had those destructive powers, would've been enough to turn her into an evil villain. So I could see #3 happening kinda
But in the end the speculation wasn't true and it was just Mirabel destroying her family's status quo but rebuilding it to be better for everyone

In this alternate universe, i think Death would just fight Puss for eternity, like, just endlessly makes him have anxiety and horror as he wishes this nightmare would've never happened. This one is dark, but i would like this crazy idea.
Imagine if they made the movie a bit longer and included this what-if scenario (probably cut down to quick segments similar to Puss flashback) in the middle of the movie. Since Jack Horner had so much random items he took along, he could've shown Puss a magic mirror of what he would've gone through if he went alone and got his wish, as a way to deter Puss from getting the wishing star. That would've made the movie even better.

Finn. Please do more what ifs. This was fantastic. Especially the part with Puss celebrating with Perrito. That was just so... touching yet sad.
I can envision this as a nightmare. Puss does have a dream of the journey again, but of course in this kind of universe. When he wakes up the next morning and sees Kitty and Perrito by his side, he can say his true wish all along was to have close companions to share his life with, especially after leaving Far Far Away. I could see a conversation between Puss and Perrito after the nightmare going like this.
Perrito: “Puss? Wake up are you okay?”
Puss: “Perrito. I’m fine, there’s nothing to worry about.”
Perrito: “Then why are you crying and you looked a bit scared in your sleep and you were moaning the word “no” a lot.”
Puss: thought to himself, “This pup is too observant for his own good.”
Puss: sighs “I dreamt of our adventure in the dark forest after going for the wishing star.”
Perrito: “What’s so bad about that, you said yourself you’re happy with the final result?”
Puss: “Perrito. The journey to the wishing star wasn’t the same way in my dream as it actually happened.”
Puss then explains everything that happened in his dream to Perrito. Both unaware that Kitty was eavesdropping their conversation.
Perrito: frowns “Oh that sounds very depressing and tragic.”
Puss: “Yeah it definitely was. Seeing how lonely my life actually was is what hurt the most. I can’t thank you enough for seeing the light in me and helping me out if my dark place before it was too late. You’re the main reason I’m still with Kitty too. You helped me in more ways that you can imagine.”
Perrito: “Thank you Puss. As a therapy dog it’s my goal to help out others.”
Puss: “Even if you’re not an official therapy dog, you’ll always be my therapy dog.” As Puss stares at Perrito with teary eyes.
Perrito tears up and jumps into Puss’ open arms for a nice hug and Perrito begins to lick Puss’ face.
Puss: “Te quiero yo Perrito. Mi hijo.”
Perrito: shocked and touched when he hears Puss call him his son. “I love you too Puss. Meeting you and Kitty was the best thing that has ever happened to me. If you love me like a son, I can say myself I see you like a father and Kitty like a mom I never had.”
Kitty: Really touched by Perrito’s statement on how he sees her. Especially after all her times of being abandoned. “Looks like you two had a nice touching moment.”
Puss and Perrito stare at Kitty who has a smile on her face and tears in her eyes.
Puss: “How much did you hear?”
Kitty: “I heard plenty Puss and Perrito. I have a question for you Perrito.”
Perrito: “What’s that Kitty?”
Kitty: “You really mean it when you said you love and trust me like a mother.”
Perrito: “Of course Kitty, you and Puss are the first two people that have stood by my side and supported me for this long. After being abandoned I was motivated to be a therapy dog.”
Kitty: Her heart begins to melt and she just grabs Perrito into a hug and kisses his forehead. “Gracias y te quiero yo Perrito.”
Perrito: “Te quiero yo también Kitty.”
Puss: Smiles at their touching moment “We may be Team Friendship, but I’ll say we’re more than that. We’re family.”
Kitty and Perrito: Aww.
Kitty: “We agree.”
Perrito: “Come here Puss. Join the family hug.”
During the embrace Puss said. “I can’t thank you two enough for filling my empty heart.”
Kitty: “De nada mi leyenda.”
Puss: “De nada. That’s what I do as a therapy dog.”
All in all Puss sees everything right in front of him is perfect and couldn’t have asked for a better ending to this adventure as they continue to make their journey to Far Far Away. Unbeknownst to them all, Death is watching in the background.

Death stares at his sickle with eight cat symbols on it.

Jack's wish isn't a good thing at all, He'd screw everyone over, And Puss is meant to learn his lesson so him getting his 9 lives wish also screws him over since Death's after him anyway, and goldi's wish is either pointless because she would realize that her bear family is good enough or she would regret leaving her family for her biological family. Kitty's wish would be interesing through.
So yeah, Perrito wishing that wouldnt cause much happiness.
Jack would prob be in another planet where he has all the magic in the world with fake people but if he tries anything outside of that planet he won't have the magic. Or maybe he would be in a simulation thing

Jack wants all the magic on the world, so it specifies that he is going to take over this real world.

I would rewrite one more part to Wolf: Whenever Puss loses another "life" wolf would be there. Coming over as a reminder that death is still around him. Not needing to be feared as puss can not die, but as someone puss now relates with. "I came here because you have the burden of death on your shoulder..." and he puts his paw on his shoulder. "I can't call you a coward... But I still smell fear in your heart... You realize that if you were stuck somewhere that nobody could save you, you would be lost for eternity... Sure, you may be able to help now, but once you lose your ability to help... What good is any life that isn't valued and given mercy? ...value comes from death. I have a proposition Gato: You can accept my help -- accept death-- and I will save you from eternal suffering. But you must become a killer. A messenger of death until you have killed as many times as you have died: 777 times. Agreed?" Puss would take the offer and wolf would also lead him to another wish as the magic of the wish returned again... Puss would wish to have the sweet release of deagh. But wolf stops him and tells him to wish for one life left... "It would be more fun for me this way... Seeing you realize your mortality will be refreshing for the both of us." And as he makes that wish, they will whistle in tandem... "Until the end, Gatito." As the wolf disappears to the shadows, and Puss lives his life with the most recebt friends, tells the truth, and always whistles that tune, whenever he is sad, knowing he no longer has regrets when death takes him, eventually.
Puss would finish the 777 lives before wolf would take him to the wish

@@dylanzlol7293 The dark forest may not harm the original map maker to death, but others that it does not belong to. (Jack Horner's Baker turns to bones from Perrito's Pocket full of Posies.) I would say the map puts you through trials that you must endure to become a better/happier person to get to the wish. For instance, River of relaxation for Perrito because his life needs no stress against who he is. The Isle of Lost Souls for Puss is for all the past lives he needs to recognize have been wasted by his lack of care for his own life and thusly a lack of self-discipline to value his life rather than live it to death. Softpaws goes through the Crater of Loneliness because she needs to realize that not trusting anyone will keep her alone in the end if she never tries to trust anyone ever again.
Death has no path. He is just the entity of death. He already knows his path and it is described as taking souls to the afterlife, but only goes after puss in boots because Death does value life, and also the justice of ending someone that doesn't deserve it. That's why he never goes for the map for the wish, because he is happy doing his job. Sure he gets upset for not killing puss sooner and enjoys his job, but if anything Wolf would need to go through something to make him help others rather than hurt others, but fear and consequence are meant to be aspects of life in order to keep death at bay and appreciate your life by protecting it and being mindful and careful. Death would go through "The Empty Graveyard of Eternal Suffering, the Maligned Movie Theater of Morbidness, and the Infinite Isle of Ignorance."
The Empty Graveyard would show living forever is painful and corrupted by greed and gluttony, destroying everything because nobody understands loss and therefore indulges in living without consequence, appreciation, or morals. Why? Because then when there is nothing left to take, there is nothing but to give, unless you go mad never learning that you will never change without some consequence. Without fear of death, waiting is easier and lazier than trying to do better when you can't die. Nature needs the cycle of life and death. Change. The opposite of life and the other half of Rebirth. Having a family and passing on to the next generation. And for Death, when everyone dies except you, it does seem... sad, but is a necessary job to harbor wisdom and continue the cycle for a better tomorrow.
Wolf remembers why they became death after their parents passed and the world needed someone to be Death. To make the world a better place.
The Movie Theatre would make the "Life flashing before your eyes" idea mean that everyone will die because fo that nature and looks at a sort of meaning of life. Was your life worth it? Don't live life with regrets. Don't be sorry. Do better. Be better. All mistakes do not cause death, even if it can be close. Mistakes are necessary. We learn from living with the memories of our past and push forward to choose your life's purpose. Death does not always need to end a life that is on the brink of death. Some lives may be better off living at least a bit longer until their wholesome goal is finished before their end. Redemption is a path people can take if their hearts can change and if their wills are strong. Give them that strength. Sometimes... Life is worth living for someone else... Or staying alive so you can be the reason someone else lives, and learns to be stronger with you, like puss and his friends.
Wolf... may not want to be death anymore and actually make friends like Puss. A lone wolf is never depicted as happy. Content, maybe. Even fulfilled. But not happy.
The infinite isle of ignorance is the last one that will prove the idea that falls back to the empty graveyard and the movie theatre. If Death stops his job or never helps others to value life, he will always take souls that do not deserve it, or souls that simply never learned in life to value it. Death must exist to make life valuable, but life must be valued so death does not become innocent. "What you don't know won't hurt you." WOuld be challenged as a saying, as there are many things that hurt you. Not knowing or seeing harm in the world around you will make a short life too short to learn or be of greater value. Knowing all the harm in the world and doing self harm out of fear will be the clutch. It will make wolf understand what he has been doing all over again when he already experienced it many times. Not understanding that this "Coward's Way Out" by not trying to value a limited lifespan by making it shorter or longer for their own gain, although selfish, is the only answer they have when they are so tortured and are heavily suffering from a Pain that Wolf could help out... Wolf would either change his approach depending on characters and be like Santa Clause that knows everyone and everything about them, or make the wish that... Makes it so death will come without a second thought... It... It might be the reason why Death Wolf isn't there anymore. He falls into the same pit of despair as the ones wanting to take their own lives... But that's when a 4th place would come up before the star... The Parents of Past Pains. His own parents may come to change his mind. Magic made him Death. It would either make a new death to replace him, or he could be the eternal death wolf and make the world a better place, one near-death experience at a time.

Puss does not fear death... But Puss fears the death of others. Either he wishes for mortality, or he learns to be the new Death... Or he learns to accept his past, regain his lost values and understands what being a true hero means, and learn to stop being lost, find his calling, and ultimately stop beating himself up or letting his mistakes get to him. Immortal or not, nobody is perfect and mistakes are the perfect example of growth when we can fix or avoid redoing a past mistake.

I kinda wanna know why Puss only wanted nine of his lives back when he could've wished for as many as he wanted. I also wanna know why Puss and Kitty needed to "split their wishes" when one of them could just make theirs and add something like & I wish that Puss gets his nine lives back. Assuming that they actually made their wish.
She wanted someone she could trust, and she felt that Puss was becoming that someone, no wish needed. She thought that he had been reformed, and wanted him to get his wish, though when Puss ran with the map she thought she was just being used and manipulated like she was used to being treated

Personally I like your version. I've always been a fan of how immortal characters live. In Puss' case he becomes what he wanted all along, a Legend.
He is now the immortal hero that fight's so that you can keep and value your 1 life, the thing he gave up. He is an immortal, the one who remains, the one who remembers. Remembers those brilliant lights that shine only once.
That's what I take away from your version anyway. A lesson learned too late, now the lesson he teaches.
I highly doubt that puss wanted infinite lives tbh. I could see him wishing for his 9 lives back and that's it. If that's the case, it would've been scary af if Wolf started killing him over and over again right there to end all of his lifes.

If Puss wished for 9 more lives Wolf might have just ran through all of them right there since he only backed off when Puss finally started to treat his last life with the respect it deserved.
Puss was afraid in this scenario, so he thought "wait if i wish for 9 lives he'll simply destroy them all" so he instinctively wished for infinite lives.
He didn't wanna make infinite lives he just said it in the heat of the moment cause he did immediately wanna take it back after the wish was granted
What if Death instead of just following Puss decided to join the wish hunt to stop doing his eternal hunt of others or simply decided that they all did not deserve something as great as a wish Especially Big Jack Horner something along the lines of " You all received the greatest gifts time and life without a curse like mine and yet you WASTE IT... on your own foolish pride either way you'll end up down there so why not skip the wait? " Because from a perspective Death has to kill hunt and drag souls for eternality maybe he views this wish as a way to transfer his role, force a reincarnation allow someone else to take his role while his soul can be allowed to fade away.
imagine when perrito dies and puss is mourning him in his improvised grave, from behind a shadow approaches, a familiar wolf that stands besides puss, making no sound
puss stares with remorse and guilt in his heart as the wolf turns to him with dissapointment in his eyes
i hope this is what you wanted, says the wolf as he leaves with perritos finally freed from torment soul

I feel like death wouldnt be mad at puss, he'd feel pity, "all it took for you to learn was to understand my point of view, gato.", both of them are immortal, will outlive everyone, being unable to have someone forever, and the fact that puss is still optimistic after all that would make death respect him.

I really loved the original film and it was one of my favorites when I was younger. After like half a decade from the first time I’ve seen it, they released the sequel that no one really expected! I personally haven’t seen it yet, and with how well it’s getting received - I’m definitely going to watch it!

I'm so glad that this didn't play out in the movie. This alternate reality of Puss getting his wish is tragic AF. Kids would have probably been bawling their eyes out to see eternal life as being this lonely, especially after Perrito. I was almost crying for Perrito. The only good thing that would have come of it was that Puss in Boots would have actually been a living legend to save everyone from danger that only have one mortal life, instead of treating his status like a joke in the beginning of the movie. The ending that Dreamworks came up with for the movie is absolutely perfect.
I think it would be interesting if the coffins represented the people who intentionally or unintentionally died threw his actions.

Idea: A Pg-13 animated spinoff of the Death Wolf.
Plot: Wolf, AKA Death, is in a dark place as he currently has a negative viewpoint of his own job due to how many people hate him for doing his job. He eventually gets captured by Little Red Ridinghood, who wants to be reunited with her grandmother. He reluctantly agrees as he just wants to get it over and done with, but they eventually learn that something is wrong when the dead start coming back to life when a man from Wolf's past, The Doctor, is using it for power and control. They must travel accross the realms of the afterlife to stop this madman as Wolf and Red gets a new viewpoint on his purpose.
Think of it as a mix of Little Red Riding Hood and Godfather Death in a dark comedy adventure retrospective of life and the afterlife.
This was depressing. I was hoping he'd just make the wish and then appreciate life anyway.

Damn. I wasn't a fan of your last aus personally, but this one did it for me! And by just pulling so many heartstrings you did!! Truly felt like a greek myth tragedy I might have read as a kid for a moral to live your life the fullest. Honestly if this were the actual movie, it wouldn't be for the kids 😥 probably in an ideal world where animation isn't a genre anyway.

Here a idea for a AU What if Puss never lost his life at the beginning but still heard the rumors of the wishing star?
Puss would be like "Well maybe i can go and wish for the coolest thing i can think of", Maybe become the very best? Have everyone in the world know him and love him? Regardless of the wish, He finds kitty and despite their chaotic relationship, they remain together due to convenience, The dark forest would still have him try to appreciate the two lives he has left (He doesnt die at the beginning so he has 2 lives left.), or maybe the dark forest changes depending on what he chose to wish? Regardless of the trials he has to face, Puss proceeds onwards, of course, Jack and the others are dangerous, but their skills get them out of trouble. of course, somewhere in the path, he notices a certain wolf following him, He tells Kitty about it, She stares at death, confused, so they both confront the creature, "Who are you!?" Says Kitty, "Well, well, well, So it seems that you want to receive a wish. (staring at Puss, Puss nods) well, Allow me to remind you, Two lives left. Your lives will end if you refuse to appreciate them.", "H-How do you know that i have 2 lives left?" Puss says, "Oh, i am just a fan, you know. It'd be a shame to lose someone like you so early, right?" Death says with a wide smile, "Listen, we're going after the wish, we dont need any interrumptions, can you go away?" Kitty says, losing her patience. "Ah, but i'm always near, dear.", Eventually, Kitty and Puss hear either Jack or the bears getting closer, so they decide to flee, after all, they still need to get the wish. Eventually, Puss and Kitty reach the star, of course, they start fighting, only one of them can receive their wish, and its not like they could theorically talk things out. however, Jack and the others reach the star. (uhhh i ran out of ideas)
Maybe assuming the same events still play out with kitty at least (but i can also see them meeting perrito at some point) kitty would end up still learning to appreciate his lives and in a moment of selflessness wishes he only had one life left.

Perrito's path is really interesting because he's already on his way to make his wish to become a therapy dog come true, in which he doesn't want or need magic to do so. The map and Dark Forest are quite literally giving him boosts and lessons throughout the adventure

Ok but i raise you, Puss becoming a legend in a different way. Being known as someone who'd there whenever there is someone in need, whether it be emotional or physical. Staying with people as they die, making sure to comfort those that are left as he shares their stories to those around him. Eventually being known as someone who has a million stories and is more than willing to tell them, except if the story is about himself.
this is the best "what if" i've ever seen, and it fits too as well, considering how fairy tales sometimes end up sad. Like the story of king Midas who accidentally turned his daughter to gold because of his greed and lust for material possession.
This was a tear jerker, absolutely adored your retelling of the story and thought it was super well thought out! I'd say the timespan at the end would probably be shorter since even a few months of perrito being alone sells the deal, making him die from sickness instead of old age, but other than that I really enjoyed it!
And thus Puss lived on, being a hero for those who needed him until the implosion of the universe where he then continued to float about an endless white void for the rest of eternity.

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but doesn't puss just respawn at whatever age he currently is? Like "infinite lives" isnt "eternal youth". Wouldn't he just get older and older then die of old age and respawn old? Even if death just decides to leave him alone forever he'd still just age forever.
Reminds me of that episode of The Justice League where the same thing happened to an immortal kid named Mordred. He essentially became a drooling brain dead husk.

:D This was dark, after hearing this, I have to admit Puss was really lucky to encounter those people.
I always had the idea that if Puss made the wish in that moment with Death, Death would take every single one of his lives then and there, one by one
One thing i think could and should be added is a scene where (in Undertaker's Ridge) Puss see's his deceased brother and best friend Humpty Alexander Dumpty and his face looks cracked and shattered and put back together like a jigsaw puzzle. I don't think that his once best friend and adopted Brother got enough spotlight in the new film. It's the ONE element *I wish* was added. I mean hell we had Imelda, Shrek and pretty much everybody from his past.... EXCEPT FOR THE ONE WHO ARGUABLY HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT ON HIM!
Not to mention that the fact he seeks redemption with his last life is very reminiscent with how Humpty finally realised that his petty revenge wasn't worth murdering an entire town and he died a hero by allowing Puss to save the day.

That was actually brilliant. 🤔 the map deters pursuers of the wish with the introspective journey.

Like how Donkey was the first person to not view Shrek as a friend and not judged him for being an ogre. Perrito is the same way, he never saw Puss as a legend and just saw him as a friend.
This au is just scary and almost made feel that Death was the real protagonist he tried to stop Puss from making his wish and tried to make him realize that only 1 live can be the greatest but my favorite part in this au was when Puss reunites with Perito. Its just sad that they tried to make it last long enough and have fun a bond with each other also the when part when he said "We'll party til the brink of death." literally kinda funny tho.
