I've made a few variations but my favorite is cherry, I think. Instead of using pumpkin I use a can of cherry pie filling and sometimes I"ll use a chocolate cake mix with it. So good!

My sister gave me the recipe for this over 40 years ago, she didn’t remember the name, so she just called it good cookies, so that’s what I’ve always called it, and even though I know it has an actual name now, I’m always going to call it good cookies. I made several of these last year around Christmas to take to my grandsons house and sons house, we really enjoyed it. When I first got the recipe I think we made it every week for six months, which is what we typically did with each new recipe we got…including the family favorite Texas Sheet Cake. Yum! I’m certainly going to try this pumpkin delight!

This is a great cake, I don't like pumpkin pie at all, but after coming in from doing sometimes outside I happened to turn on the TV and you were a guess on the Rachel Ray show one year, and you were making this cake, and I thought that I would give it a try. Well I had to hunt down your web site to get the recipe. It has been a favorite around here now I know for over 11 years or however long ago you were on her show. Everyone ask for my Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake, I tell them no it is not my cake it is a Paula Deen Cake. I will have to try it with sweet potatoes too, I have made a sweet potato cake before but I away made it like a carrot cake, and I hated having to to grate the carrots. If you have to much Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake left over from the holidays it freezes well too. I just wrap it up in individual slices in some plastic saran wrap, and all you have to do is take it out of the freezer pop it in the microwave for just a few seconds, when you get a craving for something sweet. Well there goes my diet again. Love watching you cook I tell people that I cook like Paula Deen thanks for the many years of cooking, and sharing your recipes, you can't go wrong with your recipes unless as you say you burn it up.

After I watched this video, I went straight to my spice cabinet and looked for nutmeg (I have cinnamon already). I don't have any but I did find pumpkin pie spice and also allspice. Will either of those do?

My mother made these,and never again made a basic pumpkin pie. She loved your show,she’s not with us any longer,but loved your recipes. I put a tsp. Of vanilla in the crust, not sure why ?? I use fresh grated nutmeg !
For those of us that have to make our own pumpkin because its just not a thing in Australia, is there a preferred pumpkin to use? I have to make Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake every Thanksgiving for my niece. It replaced pumpkin pie a long time ago...never gets old.
I make this twice a year and use 1 1/2 tsps of cinnamon and 1/2 tsp of nutmeg. Always turns out perfectly.

I just made this last night for my friends birthday gathering today! Problem: I couldn’t help it!!! I ate an entire row! Now I need to decide if I should serve squares and put candle in that, or make another one! I’ve never had a better “cake!”

After I watched this video, I went straight to my spice cabinet and looked for nutmeg (I have cinnamon already). I don't have any but I did find pumpkin pie spice and also allspice. Will either of those do?
Hi Mrs. Paula.... I made this cake and it was amazing. I also made muffins but i added in chopped walnuts. I have used your crust recipe several times. Looking forward to your holiday videos. I would use Pumpkin Pie Spice. All premixed in the right proportions. I use it for my Apple pies too.
I always save the candied yams, sweet potato casserole, for after Thanksgiving dinner as my dessert. Delicious. My favorite.

I have never done the pumpkin gooey butter cake. Will have to do that. I have a question tho, how would it be with a spice cake mix? That will be my plan this fall.

My mother made these,and never again made a basic pumpkin pie. She loved your show,she’s not with us any longer,but loved your recipes. I put a tsp. Of vanilla in the crust, not sure why ?? I use fresh grated nutmeg !

For those of us that have to make our own pumpkin because its just not a thing in Australia, is there a preferred pumpkin to use? Should they be naturally sweeter or does it not really make a difference? And would you roast it for that consistency? I have no clue but I really like the sound of this.
