Love this song and this version of it. You can't find it anywhere it seems. There's also a great version of this on youtube by the Desert Rose Band at one of their earlier concerts .Thanks for posting this.
I have been looking for this song for years and finally found it here on youtube. The last time I heard it was when I was in Viet Nam in 1965. Great post.
My name is charmarie, there is a Merle haggard song from 1966, called the girl turned ripe, I always thought that's were my name came from but now I think it's this one
My name is Shamarie. Never met my dad but want to thank him whole heartedly for giving me a name no one could or wanted to pronounce. Thanks for the life of explaining non stop why you left and why you gave a name/curse of a name you never intended to stand by. Courage. You lost in life and I thrived. Hope he’ll is comfortable enough for your narcissistic mind!
When I recorded this US import on reel tape, thirty odd years ago, knowing school French,I labelled it Cher Marie, thinking that must be close to Arcadian French.....what about that fabulous Turnaround....was it the Buckaroos?
Really, this is "Chere Marie". That's how we Cajuns say it. It's not "sha" as some Anglophones think, but it's "chere". For instatce,, we sing a song like "Eh, Chere Marie. C'est toi que J'aime autant." (ay sher marie, say twa keu jam o-ton) Translate: "Hey, Dear Marie. It's you that I love so." The French word "Chere" means "Dear".
My dad named me after this song after seeing it on the juke box in the restaurant they owned in 1968!😊
My Daddy names me after this song. Love you!

My niece is named Sha Marie. This must have been the inspiration for her name!!!
