- Have you ever wanted to know how a 5 rotor Wankel engine sounds? I guess something like this. I made a 5 rotor Wankel engine in Engine simulator.

Its got the perfect 5th octave as Jason Cammisa describes it.
Makes sense, 5 rotors would make 5 combustions per revolution, just like a V10. Add the high rev limit and you've got something incredible.

David Mazzei was right about the theoretical 5-rotor's sound with the major third harmony. It really sounds like an F1 v10
My thoughts exactly. It's amazing how spot on he was with the calculations. Unless he himself used a simulator beforehand. Either way I can't wait to see his project.
I figured it out by listening to an inline 5 two-stroke after realizing that an inline 3 two-stroke sounds just like a 3 rotor.
Imagine this revving up to +10K RPM, it's gonna sound like the v10 is reaching full potential. They are making the same noise with less RPM's!

The audio is so good. Racing games should use this engine simulator. Nice work

@@pikkyuukyuun4741 recording audio from a real world scenario you get lots of wind noise and other characteristic bumps and knocks it's not a clean audio output

welcome to the sound of 72 degrees of separation between combustion events (ala i5 or V10). you can hear a similar 120 degree split on firing order with the way a 20B or 3-rotor also has to be evenly spaced 360 degrees around the crank/E-shaft to aid balance. has overtones of a BMW straight 6 or Toyota 2JZ.

kinda sounds like an audi 5cyl at the lower revs... which, i guess, makes sense. (harmonically)

All it needs is a big ol' turbo and VOILA! Rob Dahm and David Mazzei should be considered the Rotary Kings of America if not the world. By the way I like the idea of an engine simulator especially if we could mix it with real life sounds so it doesn't feel too computerized.

Low end sound like a Gallardo. High end sounds like the Ferrari F2004.

If the firing order is 12453, and each consecutive rotor is 72 degrees apart, then the firing interval is uneven.
It's currently something like 72° (1-2), 144° (2-4), 72° (4-5), 144° (5-3), 144°(3-1).
This might be why the engine doesn't idle very well. A regular 5 cylinder has a consistent 144° firing interval
It might help if you changed the firing order to something like 13524.
Or change the "crank pin" spacing to 144° between 1 & 2, 72 between 2 & 3, 72 between 3 & 4, and 144 between 4 & 5 (this is the same as a 5 cylinder piston engine) and use the 12453 firing order.
Because a rotor has 3 sides, it fires 3 times in 360°.So that's 3x5=15 times it has to fire in 360°. And because of the even spacing of 72°x5=360°, it means it fires every 24° which is even firing. 24°x15=360°

I'm not sure you're aware yet but there was this new rotary engine configuration, instead of a dorito spinning in the oblong thing it's a pringle spinning in a triangle thing, aka the dorito, can you do one of that?
is it possible to flip combustion area to opposite site of rotor 2, 4 and 6 of 6 rotor engines in the simulation? and rotors 1, 3, 5 on default? Will it benefit in any way the dynamics and stability of engine?
from the way the rotary is set up itd make it a lot more complex but itd probably be even smoother than it already is with some even more consistent power
In simulation it might be possibile. In real engine, I think unlikely. Not in case of so many rotors. Notice that Mazda improved the engine by moving the intake and exhaust from the edge of the engine (like in this simulation) to the side wall. And this improvement limits the construction to two rotors.

That sound reminds me of something, but a can't really rememeber what, hmmmmmmm... oh yeah the damn v10s from F1. I swear, if a team randomly decided to replace the v10 in their car with this there is no way anyone would have noticed.

Does the sound change if You swap peripheral ports into side ones? Or does sound change when Gou change position on ports? Can You do that?
Yes you can change the size and position of the ports. And the sound does change. So does the way the engine runs.
I wonder if Rob Dahm has considered this…

That is correct. 72 degree offset. Firing order is 12453.
I think it depends how you calculate. 360/5 is 72 indeed. But a single rotor has 120 degrees symmetry. So for 5 rotors there would be 120/5=24 offset angle in my opinion. Ignition every 24 degrees. Correct me if I'm wrong.

So, if a 4 rotor has the sound and amount of firing events similar to a v12, so this should match a 15 cylinder engine.
Nah the 4 rotor sounds more like a high revving flat plane v8 e.g. the ones that f1 used during 2006-2013. I'd say the 3 rotor especially a fully Peripheral port one sounds similar to a v12.
