This is a perfect example of what happens when you create something and send it to market without doing a complete and thorough beta testing program.
I had sh*tloads of trouble with my 25mm when it came to the button operation. When it was all put together the spring was completely compressed and it would take both hands to move the blade.
In his assembly vijayo he explains that can be from tightening the screws too much, which tells me that something is off on the thickness of the spacers. He says to loosen it some, which I did, and it worked better, but eventually the screws started backing out threatening to eventually disappear.
I continued to mess with it trying to figure out what the hell was wrong.
In the meantime I went back to using my daily snap blade knife from the homeless deposit until my "upgrade" arrived.
I was hoping that maybe the copper upgrade was his secret solution to maybe the titanium spacers being too thin.
Upon receiving the upgrade, I took the whole thing apart for probably the 15th time, only to find the upgrade was nothing more than cosmetic, and that the knife worked even worse.
Upon taking it apart, I noticed that corrosion was beginning to happen between the different layers, which to me is an indication of what happens when you join dissimilar metals together.
I will say I like the torx screws much better, but I had to by an entire set of mini screw drivers in order to assemble this thing because I had never come across micro torx screws before.
I too was disappointed when I saw that the 18mm had been sent with the mini Phillips screws.
I also began to wonder if maybe my 25mm wasn't operating well because I had cleaned and polished it up too much, and removed an excessive amount of metals. But when assembling the 25mm again without the button, the blade moved freely.
I set the 25mm to the side and decided to tackle the 18.
Upon laying the parts out, I couldn't help but wonder that if the copper and torx screws were such a wonderful upgraded idea, why the hell didn't he include them with the 18mm knife? And how hard would it be, and why didn't it occur to him to put a pocket clip on these things?
And also why does the metal on the 18 look rusted and almost burned up by the laser cutting, and how thin am I going to make everything once I get that all cleaned up? And those inside edges? Holy crap, they're probably sharp enough to cut you. They're gonna need to be cleaned up too!
I gave it a minimal clean up and put it together just to see if it worked any better that the 25mm, which it appeared to...at first.
Knowing that the 18 was needing disassembly again to be cleaned up, dremmeled and polished, and that I still hadn't solved the puzzle of the 25mm, I looked around my bench and asked myself, How many more time bandits do I need around here???
I got other sh*t I need to be doing!
So I pushed the knives off to the side to take a break from them and work on other things of greater importance.
Upon completion of another project and while cleaning up, I noticed a small spring on the bench. I thought, where the hell did this come from? Then I noticed the button that had fallen out of the 18mm when I had retracted the blade. Argggggh!
I realize this is suppose to be a kit, but there's just too many flaws for the arm, dick, and a kidney these things cost.
I could have bought like 20 of the box store knives and enough replacement blades to last a lifetime.
Don't get me wrong, I like AvE and all he does, and I wanted to have something cool from him, but these things just aren't as cool as they should be, and if it weren't for the cost of shipping, I'd be half tempted to ask for my $200+ back.

Definitely has a few bugs. I'm thinking of it as a generational tool. First versions always got a few issues. If ya owned a 64-1/2 mustang right now it'd be pretty cool... After all I've done to it, I think the blade lock spring on both, made of 304ss is the biggest issue. It takes a bend too easy. Most everything else so far can be can be taken care of with some sanding...

My wife told me to order the 25mm for Christmas and I’m super excited for it. Your assembly videos definitely give me some ideas to get the best finish on it. I appreciate it!
As far as the pocket clip, I think that area would work. However I only retract the blade as far as it needs to go back in to be covered on these kinds of knives. Will the button get in the way of the clip in that location?

I might hot glue or super glue it on in a couple different spots to see what works best, good thought about the button not being all the way retracted, I'll test that as well.

I don't know but I won a Sweet Little Dagger last night for $3.25 with a nice Leather Sheath. Somehow I got hooked on buying knives over the past year. I need to knock it off, one night I won 4, and had 3 sent to different people I know. It's turned into an addiction.

@@rawbacon Same here, I find one at a good price and I gotta have it. Very rare to pay full price, except these AVE knives. I'd really like the Leatherman arc, just can't stomach 235 for it. Can only carry so many at a time!

I wish it didn't have a lock . And the back was inclosed. And just feed the blade in from the front

Try as I may, I can not get the bottom (think thinner) half of the button to fit. There just is no room for it. The blade is right against the frame.

@@stephenpaul6858 I cut out most of my work on the bottom half of the button, not only did I file it, I chucked it in a drill and sanded the the top and bottom of the flat and still flat sanded a little more off the bottom. Take it slow, little by little, it'll fit.

OMG I am so stupid!!! For days I have been trying to put two blades in. Now I need to stop the blade from going all the way back.

I bent the part that pushes on the button to add more pressure. That seems to have fixed it, but that part will loosen up every time you change the blade.

Howdy, good vid I have the new knife and kit sitting on my fab table. I need to get on that. However I noticed about my original 25mm that it has an arch to it... I wonder if everyone is experiencing that? or my fat ass just bent it in my pocket.

@@twosawacres8096 well from the time I wrote that comment till now I've been in the shop polishing parts and assembling the unpolished mini. WOW that mini works better. Has to polish the bottom of the button but then, yikes it's a better knife.
I wondered why he didn't make the top plate one piece a long time ago now I know he shoulda🤣
