I Smart Water bottle Solar Ignited this great piece of punk wood and ignited leaves straight off the ground to get the IKEA Stove burning and ready for cooking. I boiled the water from the Smart Water bottle and made some 10 minute steeped coffee. It turned out so rich, robust, and dark too. So Good!
Next I made some toast, brand name Dave's Killer Bread from Walmart, in my little cast iron skillet. It came out all buttery and crisp then a couple of large eggs tender and suculent on top of that... OH HAPPY DAY! You've got to see how well everything turned out. There was only one drawback though... how much heat an IKEA Stove loses while burning. Such a waste of fuel and a little a
ggravating to have to keep reloading the stove. Still though a great... experience, cup of coffee, and breakfast on this gorgeous Fall day!

A good share 👍 .. thanks.
Yep, IKEA Stoves don't like wind. When necessary, I use a folding Windscreen with mine. I'm playing around with an internal windscreen made from a suitably-sized Tin Can, top and bottom removed and then halved longitudinally. Suitably placed holes drilled into this screen and by turning the screen inside the Stove (beforehand of course) allow for an adjustment as to how much air gets into the combustion chamber. Early days still .. one drawback currently is getting wind (without accompanying rain) on demand.
Charcoal Briquettes also work pretty well .. with a long-burning low-ish heat .. great for Eggs and such .. even better when toasting Marshmellows on my 3rd Floor Balcony 😊.
Take care ..
TOASTED MARSHMALLOOOOWS... (hold on a second)... ... Whew, I'm ok now... I've seen an internal windscreen video on UA-cam, makes sense. I'd like to try briquettes some day. Alright I'm going back there again... TOASTED MARSHMALLOOOOWS...
Dave's Killer Bread! Dave's got started here in a Portland, Oregon suburb, Milwaukie (yep, it's spelled "ie" here). Nice drive idea, but definitely not fuel efficient. Maybe a second outside pot could block wind and control the combustion?
Whether we eat or drink do it giving thanks and praise and glory to our Lord Jesus Christ it’s nice to hear another brother in the faith, may our lord bless you and your loved ones love from Ireland.
I agree. Nice to hear from brothers around the world. God bless y’all.
Mr. David .You never fail to teach me a jewel of fire making knowledge. I am always impressed.
Thanks Mike!
David, You show so many things I tried to get across to my Hazardous Materials students for years. One thing I really like about your videos is you combine technique and just plain old common sense. Live long and prosper Sir!!
Thanks TC!
Just prior to watching this, I watched a vid on a $50, 8 oz manual coffee press. It still required a pot to boil the water. Simple is sometimes better.
About the stove, I use an internal windscreen that also aids in secondary burn of gases (smoke). I took a slightly smaller tin can (25 oz I think), removed top and bottom and added air holes around the bottom. Less fuel and more heat. I also use a top down burn. Works almost as well as my diy wood-gas stoves. Great vid.
Was that your video on youtube that I saw using the internal windscreen you describe?
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl no sir, I don’t know how to post videos. I would like to watch it.

Really enjoyed this video. I came here just to see the IKEA stove, but found myself relaxing and watching the entire video. Looks like a fine breakfast, and giving thanks to the right One.
Awesome! Thank you!
I love ALL of you videos David. But this one is by far my absolute favorite! I thank you for sharing all of the knowledge you have about fire starting. You are a blessing!!!
M pleasure. TY!
Good coffe brother !! 🤛🤛
So GOOD!!!
Genius! That water bottle trick works well. Who would have thought you can make fire from a water bottle? I've used this method in the Beartooth mountains on a weekend trip. I'm glad to see it again. Also that spoon trick you showed us is pretty dang slick too. The two things you will most likely have on a hiking or camping trip, water bottle and a spoon bam your cooking now. Great possum mentality and smarts plus the power of the sun will go a long way.
I love Solar Ignitions but my audience is only moderately interested in it. Thanks AK!
Thank you Fire King. Very relaxing to watch!!
LOL! Thanks friend!
Neat trick with the bottle of water,I guess it's the same as using a magnifying glass to start a fire!
Yes, See my solar ignitions playlist.
Ramp up the flavor with some onion powder. Three seasonings I always use is, black pepper, onion powder and garlic powder on everything I cook.
Excellent demonstration.
Thanks NWO!
Great video David. Love seeing your breakfast videos!
Thanks friend!
Great video and prayer. God bless you.
God bless yall. Thank you!
Great video! THANK YOU!!! Seems a better can-stove would have holes on maybe the first 25% or 33% of the circumference for wind control.
See my hobo stove builds playlist.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl, looking that up. 👍🏻Thank you!!!
Oh happy day to you my dear friend. Outstanding video Amen . I am going to try that cowboy coffee. One day. Stay safe and burn on
Burnin' on, friend!
I need some coffee, u made my mouth water when u started stirring yours!
It was so good!
Man that is looking good lol I love outdoor cooking
The coffee and the open face egg sandwiches were GREAT!
You can easily cut a tin can and put it inside to block some of those holes for wind screen effect.
Yes, I have no shortage of fuel though. I rarely cook on the IKEAS. See my hobo stove builds playlist.
Amazing video as always good sir
Had some pine that was dry as it could be and the bugs had eaten everything they could. That wood didn’t want to start burning. Took a lot to get it lit, once lit though it burned a long time. All just the opposite of what I expected.
You never know till you…
This guy just causually using his hands as a chimney starter 😂❤
Fried toast! That is a great way to start your day.
It was really good!
Deu agua na boca.
Bom apetite amigo
wow, seein a fire lit off with a smart water bottle. i didn't expect that
Lots of wine bottles and flower vases have the right shoulders/shape also.
Excellent video. I use a wind screen on all of my wood, alcohol and gas stoves. A couple of ways to get most efficient burn out of your from to stoves including the IKEA is to use a swedish torch stack or fill it with sticks vertically all cut to the same height. At least at won't be burning up a lot of wood in the middle especially if you use a simple diy wind screen. Pellets are also top burning. I never been troubled with cross winds making a shore lunch on the Chattahoochee. Cheers
LOL! I like the stove a lot better now since I've used it for a while now.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl Makes sense!
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl Glad you found a happy medium. Most people like them as a main or secondary stove or both. Maybe add an internal or external windscreen if your concerned about outside influences. Lol. Enjoy! Keep up your good works. Cheers
Looks like Ikea should source your hobo stove. :)
Anyway very nice breakfast. As always, thank you for the skills and peace shown in the video.
Thanks friend!
David, another nicely done ✅ video. I don't recall if you have shown how you made the Ikea stove's pot supports. What material did you use?
The regular pot supports shown in my Hobo Stove Builds Playlist (probably the 1st or 2nd build on that list) shows a half lap for the 2 pieces to fit together then 4 notched ends for the unit to sit down on the can. I just took a set of those, joined the half laps together, and sat the unit atop the IKEA stove. It worked alright. You can see how I built the pot support for the gallon can and scale it down or just half lap a couple of 1" pieces of sheet metal. There's also a pot support build demo in the Paint Can Hobo Stove Build.
🤗 Thanks for your reply and information, as it is very helpful! ☺
Thank you
I actually took a piece of stainless stove pipe cut it the height of my ikea stove and made an internal wind shield and block 1/2-3/4 of my holes
That's what it needs.
I make cowboy coffee much the same way. My kettle, water, 2 to 3 heaping spoonfuls and boil for ten minutes. Not a full rolling boil or it will boil over. Just enough to bubble . I use a trivett off to the side if usingva camp fire. If using my twig stove just enough to keep the flame hitting the bottom
Pour a shot of cold water down the spout and let sit for a minute. The grounds sink and collectvat the corner of the base when pouring
Your way is the classic way.
Jesus loves you David and so do I. Your videos are very uplifting and I appreciate all the work that you do to produce these videos. 🕊
This kid's song? Jesus loves me. This I know, for the Bible tells me so... God bless you friend!
Take a thin sheet of 304 stainless steel, cut it to size and place it from inside, thus blocking the side holes. This will make it like your hobo stoves.
ATB,
The Solo Hiker....
That's what it needs.
Have you ever tried strawberry jam and a little tabasco? I like the sweet and tabasco together on an egg sammich.
No, but I would. TY!
Did you ever consider using 1”, one hole conduit straps fer the legs ?
I turn mine out fer more stability
Yes. I'm happy with the way it is. TY!
Looks good! That's why I use a French press...such a rich taste. I'm sure your method results in a comparable taste, but maybe a tad stronger. I never pop my yokes on purpose...even in a sandwich, I just deal with the runny goodness. Don't know where I'd find punk wood in Japan, but that was impressive. For awhile I was thinking "this dude just finished talking about photons, but now he's about to burn the crap out of that nice Yeti cup." 😅 So glad it didn't turn out that way!
I know what you mean. There's never enough yoke to keep dipping your toast into!
Fire with water bottle and coffee with the stove your bless
I see you are wearing a long sleeve shirt, what was the outside temperature?
Upper 30s and it's been windy.
Hi David, do you have a rocket stove?
I almost made one several years ago. I was actually on my way to the hardware store to buy some vermiculite, changed my mind.
Fire from a water bottle! Just another reason not to leave water bottles in your car. I haven't heard of a fire starting in a car that way, but it does leach molecules into the water from the plastic bottle, so I hear.
Open flame at a windy camp sight with tons of forest fuel laying around ....
What's punk wood? I am not in the US
Google it please.
i love your videos. so about the salt comment and the fat from food they are good for you its like fuel for your budy.so the problem is the sugar.sugar is killing us.remember sugar becomes fat thats bad fo us but the fat from baken is a good fat as fuel.it took me long time to understand it hope you do Gad bless you!!!
I eat a lot of animal fat and enough salt. Gave up sweets only a few days ago, but I need to give up the bread too.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl yea all carbohydrate contein glucose.keep it up!!!
Like your human wind screen.
lol! Ty!
You need at least 1.1 grams of salt per day or you get cramps, hydration, quick bladder and regulatory problems.
I crave the stuff all Summer long, hate the stuff all Winter long. The brain knows what the body needs . Doesn't it?
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl sometimes. If you get any symptoms you know now. Salts are electrolytes, they affect the flow of electrical impulses through nerves, if you starve your heart it could be worse than cramp. Potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, all important, the body does not store sodium. In 24 hours you can get cramps if you do not get enough. In the winter you sweat less so you require less.
