DAVID loved your back yard one man breakfast extravaganza, what a natural way to show how God needs to be invited in all aspects of our lives.thank you for praying before the fun begins. Another good handle mitt for cast are dollar store eye glass case's they work great.thanks a subscriber.
How ungrateful and disrespectful it would be to take the Lord for granted. He's not obligated to feed me, give me that next breath or heartbeat either. I love Him. Thanks friend!
Iron skillets are my main cooking utensil. I have cooked in them for over 40 years. I cook spanish rice, goulash, spaghetti sauce, and many other things in them. Nothing wrong with boiling water in an iron skillet. The important thing is drying them over heat when you are done cleaning them to evaporate any moisture so that they don't rust. Then apply a thin coat of cooking oil to reseason them. Also, a lid of some sort will help cook grits, rice, noodles, and other things that have to boiled, faster and more efficiently by holding in the steam and heat. Without a lid the water will evaporate faster and you may end up needing to add more water, and it takes longer to cook the food without a lid. Iron skillets can also be used to bake in. Johnny cakes (corn muffin mix baked as one cake), cornbread, cobblers, etc. will bake in an iron skillet. If you are baking outdoors with coals and don't have a lid, a second iron skillet of the same size can be turned upside and placed on top of the one you are baking in, and then coals placed on top of the upside down skillet.
I loved momma's cast iron cooking... fried chicken, chicken gravy, cornbread, bacon, fried eggs, pancakes, fried hot dogs, sausage peppers and onions, etc.
Great job. I’m not very good at flipping the egg without breaking it. For years now, I just add a little water to the skillet after it’s nearly done on one side, cover with a lid and steam the top of the egg. Cooks the top in a minute, no flipping!
I used my 5 inch sander with a medium grit on my skillet till it was very slick. Then cured it in the oven. Learned this from Kent Rollins on his channel. You made a great video for breakfast in the wind.
Great video as always 👍 Grits??? Not seen them here in the U.K. but will keep looking! About the only thing I strongly disagree with Kent is this obsession he has with taking a sander to cast iron😂 my “rough” Lodge 8” skillet has cooked fried/ scrambled eggs from day one without sticking!! The more I use it the better it becomes. Kindest regards from deepest Dorset England 🇬🇧🇺🇸

Hi, David! I followed your instructions and made my own hobo stove. I already went out camping and used it for cooking. It was great! Right now I'm taking note of your recipes and looking forward to cooking again in the bush. Great video, as always! God bless!
Great video David..👍🏻 we love to crack our eggs into the grits with the butter and cheese just before they finish. The grits are at 212°(+/-) and will cook the eggs to perfection for the perfect one pot meal. Keep up the good work..!
Thank you Mr. West for an enjoyable and informative video. I had no idea that restoring the seasoning of a cast iron frying pan was so simple : - ) I believed that to season a frying pan, it had to be coated with oil and turned upside down and heated in an oven at a high temperature for a full hour. Thank you for demonstrating a much easier method ... Cheers.
An expert commented and convinced me that the pan was NOT seasoned just well greased. I know how to season with oil and baking, so I have to agree with him. That still doesn't take away from the beauty of this method. Being able to turn a non seasoned iron skillet into a non stick iron skillet by using 2 types of fats has served me well for years. Thanks friend!
My wife loves sunny side up eggs and this little skillet handles two just nicely. Once I found a lid for it she keeps it on the stove. I am not allowed to touch it even though I found it and restored it. These things are priceless.....eggs slips right out.
great vid. good way to cook breakfast. i cook every day with cast iron, at home, in my camper and over open campfires. to keep em seasoned use flaxseed oil and put back on the heat empty till it just starts to smoke then set aside and let it cool......and i do use soap when i clean. the legend of not using soap comes from when lye was in soap. dawn cleans and will not strip a properly seasoned cast iron pan.

When cleaning a really dirty cast iron pan, heat it up hot and sprinkle a copious amount of table salt into the pan with a few small dashes of “light olive oil” (light olive oil is made for high temperature cooking as it doesn’t burn, unlike regular olive oil). Great video. You just made me hungry for breakfast lol. That little iron skillet is awesome, looks perfect for hobo stove. Coffee made with the grounds in the pot is good. I like coffee but coffee doesn’t like me, the acid bothers my stomach. I think boiling the coffee and letting it steep makes it less acidic imho.
The good thing about about hobo stoves, besides how cheap they are to make, is that you dont need that much wood to cook or warm yourself. And I also noticed you have the expensive American version of skillet. The Ozark Trail 6 inch skillet made in China with a thinner handle, is like $5 at walmart.
God did for us what we couldn't do for ourselves. God the Son paid the debt for our sin when He died on the cross, was buried, and raised to life by the Holy Spirit on the third day.
Good morning, just finished my breakfast witch included grits and cheese. Damn I feel great. Thanks for a great video. You take care and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
A Rolling Boil does eat away at even the super seasoned/non-stick cast iron skillets. However I have yet to stop fixin meals from Soups to Grits in a few of mine.
good video dave. finally, seasoning a cast iron pan made easy. most utube video's are complicated and involve way more steps than you take. Your way of seasoning makes better sense. are you gonna have any more chow video's? now, I'm gonna have to do this outside if it ever warms up.
I still do the initial seasoning in the oven... coated in grease or oil, 200 degrees for a half hour. After that if I ruin the seasoning, I use 2 kinds of fats to bring it back. It might work for the initial seasoning too.
Dear Dave, we like this video on the hobo stove But the part about the cast iron skillet just reminds me of when my first wife hit me on the head because I was being funny with my friend's Good prayer. and God bless

ANYONE who knows, asian iron is Inferior!
Go America
Thank you for another great video.
Thank you!!!
Good video, excellent prayer 🙏
Nice !!!! I’ll do this with my solo stove lite.
I will be making my hobo stove. Found an old popcorn tin! Thank you
See my hobo stove builds playlist.
Enjoyed your video and especially your prayer thank you Jesus for all your blessings thanks David new subscriber
God did for us what we couldn't do for ourselves. God the Son paid the debt for our sin when He died on the cross, was buried, and raised to life by the Holy Spirit on the third day.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl Amen thank you Jesus. See you in the clouds soon
Praise God! ua-cam.com/video/6ClwsynwVrI/v-deo.html

Good stuff! Thank You!
I love cast iron !!!!👌👌
I understand.
I SO wanted a taste of those grits! lol
They were so good too! Thanks friend!
YOU ~ ROCK ! !
You.
Good morning, just finished my breakfast witch included grits and cheese. Damn I feel great. Thanks for a great video. You take care and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I should've made some more this morning to go with my scrambled eggs and tomato sandwich. LOL! Merry Christmas!
A Rolling Boil does eat away at even the super seasoned/non-stick cast iron skillets. However I have yet to stop fixin meals from Soups to Grits in a few of mine.
Frying bologna is the worst for messing up the non-stick season. Thanks friend!
good video dave. finally, seasoning a cast iron pan made easy. most utube video's are complicated and involve way more steps than you take.
Learned a lot from your channel 👍
Thanks Gerard! I'm glad you stopped by.
AMEN! Awesome video
Amen friend!
Wow looks amazing! 😋
Dear Dave, we like this video on the hobo stove But the part about the cast iron skillet just reminds me of when my first wife hit me on the head because I was being funny with my friend's Good prayer. and God bless
That's no way to treat an iron skillet! LOL!
I always knew you were a Christian. Thanks for sharing and God bless.
Good to meet you brother. Praise God!
I was not expecting that touching prayer at the end from a big tough guy like yourself but it shows real men love Jesus and you are so right about the shape of America...sad what the corrupt God disobeying Democrats did to this once great country. God Bless....
It has to be the last days. There's no other explanation for so many intelligent people purposely trying to destroy our country.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl you are so right they are all lost,.this country was founded on God and he protected us and made the US prosper and they are trying to remove God from everything, his wrath will be unleashed very soon... Amen
and that's how the fire started
Thank you Dave, I always enjoy your breakfasts and the fact that you give thanks to almighty God ! ! And yes our Country is in turmoil with the current administration. Oh,, we'll God is still in control ! Your videos are definitely genuine and always entertaining. Blessings to you and continue the videos. You use life survival techniques that we can all learn.
Thanks friend. God bless you!
I’m thinking about making a larger hobo stove from a 6 gallon galvanized steel storage can that you buy from Walmart
I've thought about making a bigger one, but I don't need the extra capacity.
Amen brother!!!
