Just to add to your genius idea, I think the bottom rack stand can be another identical utensil holder cut in the same way, so you can align the holes for more precise airflow control from the bottom vent. I am going to buy two holders anyways to apply my theory. Thanks much for the inspiration.
I just scrolled through your videos and saw that you are a performer. Thank you for providing art to the people! It is so needed and under-paid. I subscribed.
Your mods are brilliant... I bought exactly the same cutlery stand! More than 1 & in different sizes, to use it with my Trangia burner, and as a twig-stove! For my trips around home it is very good, for trekking perhaps a little heavy (I switch to my titanium twig-stove). Textile bags are also a hit! (environmentaly sound). I also use old military canvas bags, which besides doing the job, have some own stories and look terrific!
have been looking for something to carry a stove in the bag is perfect. I find a lot of different SS cups and pots at Goodwill i buy and think of what to use them for.
What a great kit, Brad! The IKEA Grundtal pot is now called Kungsfors (at least here in Germany). Unfortunately it is slightly bigger in diameter and does not fit inside the Hobo anymore. Bummer...
Really good! You have solved some of the issues I've had with my Ikea hobo stove, especially stopping the scorching underneath. I'm eager to try your approach with all of my folding/collapsible stoves, as well. I do think that in performance for price, the hobo stove is unbeatable. Well done.
Good job. I am surprised you did not include a tent stake rotisserie option through the top holes or a drop in fondue pot. You sir, are an Ikea hobo stove savant.
maaaate... from down under land, well done, i am def looking at all your stuff on the hobo stove.. i have way to many others and just want a simple little pack to go the back apck that actually works.. ill combine few things so that all fit in the one stuff sack.. well done, double thumbs on the toaster rack too.
This is an awesome setup! I too love my Ikea stove and its simplicity. I am a dayhiker these days and do very few overnights. But I do love to heat up something and see some fire when out and about. I also enjoy collecting tinder and such. Mostly I enjoy heating up soup or making some coffee/tea. And, since I am not carrying overnight gear, I don't mind the weight of the kit. I like your leg design, but may just grab another Ikea pot and cut so the holes lign up perfect. I could also use the top part of the stove as a lighter one that could be set on the ground with the bottom open, or maybe make some kind of ring that can be more open and sit on top the other stove? I have not had my screws break from the heat, yet. For legs I have used (4) spade screws inside with conduit clamps that bolt on one side on the bottom and then wingnuts holding them on. I like this setup because the feet can be rotated out and then tightened to add more stability. And, I can put a piece of mesh inside resting on the (4) spade screws that creates an ash pit. I like it, but I like the nesting ability you have created for yourself. I'm not sure if the alcohol stove you have would rest in a stable position on those spade screws, though. And, I am not sure what the long-term prognosis is for them. I think I used 3/4 single-sided conduit clamps, 1/4 20 spade screws, washers, lock washers, and 1/4 20 wingnuts from Home Depot to make my setup. Also, I watched a Video by Survival Lilly in which she cut holes out across from each other so that she could put longer pieces of wood in the holes. I like that setup and have done the same. I have yet to make a set of stainless cross pieces, but that is something I really want to have. If I made a pair, I would probably round of the eddges so they weren't as sharp. Lastly, for grills I have used 5' computer fan covers (I just bend the little screw taps over and it sits secure on the top. OR I have used a 5' Oaty stainless drain that I have found at Lowes. I't is about 5 or 6 dollars. Underneith, you will find 4 tabs. These tabs are slightly bent in, but if you straiten them to 90 degrees it fits perfectly on top and secure from sliding off. I have not done it, but have considered making more holes on top and, or making larger ones from the existing ones. I also have a heavy-duty grate like you have, but do not use it because it is too heavy. All and all, I love your kit. I love the pot with the bale and the lid. And, I abolutely Love your bag for the stove, and the brilliant cotton inner bag. I will have to look around for similar items. I have a lot of stoves, including gassifiers, Ikea-type smaller stove that fits the nesting Stanley Adventure Kit securely that I can use when about. Larger steamer inserts for pots made into larger 10' diameter Ikea-esque stoves, small gassifiers that were made, others that were bought on Amazon (Lixada) and an awesome super large one that I made out of two stock pots. I love that campfire that I can put outside in the yard or take camping and that doesn't smoke once it gets going with dry wood. The gassifier effect is mesmerizing. i like your idea and will be putting some carbon fiber on the bottom of some kind of slab to use to insulate the bottom of the two larger stoves. Thanks. I don't have grills for either this or the larger steamer designed stoves. I have a Trangia stove with setup and I have container stoves, but I love the most and use my Ikea stove the most when going out and about. I will definitely look to incorporate your thoughts into my setup. The beauty of the ikea stove is that you can just take it alone with no modifcatons and use it in the field. I carry some fat wood with me to get it going and have ever brought some wood pellets and such with me to use if the woods is wet out (or my Fency Feast alcohol stove). Esbit pellets can be fashioned to work inside as well.
The Oatey stainless steel shower drain is a great idea. I actually used something similar to make an ash grate on the inside for a hobo stove I made as a gift for some friends. And yes on the fat wood. Dryer lint and fat wood are my go-to means of starting my hobo stove fires. Sounds like you have bitten by the camp stove bug as well. All the best with customizing and modifying your kit. For me, as it seems with you, this stuff is an enjoyable, albeit never-ending, pasttime. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching. Yep. I ended up experimenting with magnets and learned pretty quickly that the magnets wouldn't work once heated. I'll just stick with the wingnut and bolt for now.
Get you a brass or stainless steel screw for the middle. I like whatvya made id probably kept that pot though as anotger cookpot. I got a stainless steel cookset and the top part is a lockable pot. It holds my charcoal. I keep a cookpot full of charcoal just in case. I know i have enough to start wet wood
I wished id never cut a hole in mine. Burning twigs fall out constantly. Try it without the hole a few times b4 you decide to cut any holes. Boot sales, charity shops are good hunting grounds for these. Also, plumbers soldering mat is very effective at stopping the base from burning.
nice... I have both the SS and titanium Siege cross members. The Ti is quite a bit lighter. Your home made ones look like some stainless bars from a tube TV component. I thought of using those but they would have been a lot heavier than the Siege SS ones! But VERY stout. I like your set up.
I think that pot stands are good if they have no openings. Then the wind doesn't blow heat away from the bottom of the pot so much. I think your pot stands are better than those others.
The heavy round grill is a stainless steel high heat charcoal fire grate. It is about 7 1/2-Inch in diameter. It is the kind you find in the bottom of backyard charcoal grills. I got it on Amazon a while ago. The round canvas zipper bag is something I got on Etsy a while back. I think the person that makes them is called Journeyman Handicraft or Journeyman Bushcraft or something like that. If you search on Etsy for "bushcraft skillet pouch" or "zippered frying pan canvas pouch" you should stumble across it or something really similar. Any wax canvas stuff I've purchased has been a bit pricey, but it has all held up amazingly. Hope this helps. All the best with your own kit.
I used a 120mm fan grill on mine for a combination pot support and for grilling meat. Just bend the 4 mounting tabs down as shown in this photo. drive.google.com/file/d/1QGZXHPUW4CxpBSF9jlTSYMB05DLTAz2v/view?usp=sharing
You have a really great setup! The tall pot looks like a Bain Marie steam insert. I couldn’t quite hear what you called it. Did you drill holes and affix the handle or did it come that way? I have a straight sided Bain Marie pot and lid to use with mine but I use the pot gripper as a handle.
The pot is from Ikea. It is called Grundtal or something like that. I'm not 100% sure they still sell it. I put the bale handle in myself. I'm disproportionally proud that the tension on it is such that it stands up on its own and doesn't flop down. Thanks for watching and all the best with your own hobo stove.
Do you feel the ikea stove has too many holes and a simple been can without so many holes would be better ? I think the ikea stove is way more heavy duty than a food can . What's your thoughts ?
I made my first "hobo" stove out of a coffee can. It worked pretty good with just can-opener holes made around the bottom and top. I accidently stepped on it and dented it after just two uses. That is what led me to making an IKEA "hobo" stove. Since making the one I showed in the video out of the IKEA utensil strainer, it has just kept going. I still cook on it a dozen or so times a year. What I like about it is that it offers a lot of flexibility for modifications. For someone who likes to tinker around with this kind of stuff, it is great. Of course, I am careful not to step on this one.
I’ve searched ikea for that little pot with the little strainer plate inside and cannot find it. Could you please get me the full name for it? Thank you
I believe it was called Grundtal or something like that. I'm not 100% sure they still sell it (or sell it the way it was). I have seen it, in the past, both in the Kitchen area as a utensil holder/ strainer and also in the "garden" area as a little planter. If I see it again, I'll let you know where I see it. All the best and thanks for watching.
The base is fashioned from one of the little pots in the kids cook kit from IKEA (called Duktig) at 3:35. The little base plate I drop in is from the Grundtal pot from IKEA. It sat in the bottom of that to be used as a utensil strainer. You can see it on a video over on shootingreview's channel: ua-cam.com/video/lFrBNjwBjpM/v-deo.html Hope this helps a bit. Thanks for watching.
The actual utensil can itself was maybe $3 USD. I got it from IKEA. Then I just built up the accessories and modifications over time. The pricier items are the titanium cross braces and the canvas bag I put everything in. Most of the rest of the stuff was relatively cheap or gathered around my house.
I actually do sometimes use a Trangia burner. Sometimes I even pair it with this kit. It depends if I am going light or I am going out to really cook stuff. Is the Trangia your preferred stove?
Just so you don't embarrass yourself in front of your friend, Jan, the letter J is pronounced like we pronounce Y, so his name would more likely be pronounced like our word, yawn.
I have seen about a hundred Ikea Stove youtubes......You win heads up !!!
Well thought out. Good job. Gave me some good info. Thanks
Toaster idea was genius.
This is the best IKEA Hobo Stove video. This should be the first one that comes up when people search...
Wow! The accessories here are so cool! Love the waxed canvas bag too. Now I want to make all of it!
Without a doubt the most well thought out cooking kit I have ever seen. I really lost it with the toasting brackets ❤️👍
Toast bracket....freaking genius. Outstanding build from the simplest materials.
Love the toaster skewers. Great idea!
Excellent ideas and vides, thanks heaps. I’m off to IKEA tomorrow to buy the components 🎉❤😊

Dude I'm about to start this whole kit! This is so well thought out 👍
I really enjoyed your video. Thanks so much. Some very well thought out modification that can only come from extensive use of the stove.

I would love to see you make a video on how you made your first Jean pant bag. Good job on it.
Just to add to your genius idea, I think the bottom rack stand can be another identical utensil holder cut in the same way, so you can align the holes for more precise airflow control from the bottom vent. I am going to buy two holders anyways to apply my theory. Thanks much for the inspiration.
That's exactly what he has done and explains it clearly!
I just scrolled through your videos and saw that you are a performer. Thank you for providing art to the people! It is so needed and under-paid. I subscribed.
Sir, you are a genius. Once the public sees this video it's going to explode.
This is brilliant stuff, well done!
Pretty good do-all kit!

I loved the toast accessory. I am definitely going to make that. Thanks for the inspiration.
Absolute genius.

Fantastic setup. I love mine too!
Brilliant stove!
Like it, I have the same from B&M 99p cutlery drainer.
What a great kit, Brad! The IKEA Grundtal pot is now called Kungsfors (at least here in Germany). Unfortunately it is slightly bigger in diameter and does not fit inside the Hobo anymore. Bummer...
Just checked this too, unfortunate :(
I can't seem to find a Kungsfors pot here in Denmark. Is it still avalible in Deutcland?
Really good! You have solved some of the issues I've had with my Ikea hobo stove, especially stopping the scorching underneath. I'm eager to try your approach with all of my folding/collapsible stoves, as well. I do think that in performance for price, the hobo stove is unbeatable. Well done.
Thanks. And all the best with your own hobo stove stuff.
You could have two sets of cross braces and use one set to lift the stove for just airflow.
Absolutely wonderful build and excellent vid👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿🙏🏽

@@BingWatcher Yeah. There are a couple. Here's a more recent one: ua-cam.com/video/6Xt40Nku7v0/v-deo.html
Thank you! 😁
Toaster looks great. As for magnets, the stove is stainless steel but more than that magnets lose their magnetism when heated.

man you should get commission from ikea ! 😀 great video , thanks for explaining it all . liked and subbed 💪💪
Awesome set up friend! That bags is the business. May I ask the make and model please? Thanks! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I originally got it on Etsy from PNW Bushcraft. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Use it for long time...the big version but now go back to the small one. Have IKEA near me so often give them as presents
great video, very useful IkeaHobo, thanks for sharing. What kind of canvas(?) bag is it (brand, supplier)?
Cheers, Rolf
Rolf, thanks for watching. The canvas carry bag is from a small company called PNW Bushcraft. I found them on Etsy.com
I think that pot stands are good if they have no openings. Then the wind doesn't blow heat away from the bottom of the pot so much. I think your pot stands are better than those others.
Super cool stuff. Im copying everything xd
so cool
Good 👍
Hello ! .Thanks a Lot For The Demonstration ! .👍 ..Oh ! Where You Bought Your Pan With Folding Handke ? ......👋👋👋🤗🤗🤩🥰💞From Downtown Montreal 🇨🇦
Hi. I got it at a camping store in Seattle a few years ago. It is from a company called Sea to Summit. I bet you could get it off their website.
3:57 You say, that the pot you use is also IKEA - which is it? You remember the name? 😊
Great video, well explained. It answered most of my questions except where do I buy the heavy grill and the zipper pouch you showed
The heavy round grill is a stainless steel high heat charcoal fire grate. It is about 7 1/2-Inch in diameter. It is the kind you find in the bottom of backyard charcoal grills. how about you post the details for 'swedish jan q cross braces'?
You can search him out on Instagram. He goes by Q Works. I just direct messaged him there on IG.

What did you use to cut the base stand with ?
I used a dremel.
What type of plate did you use to raise the floor?
The base is fashioned from one of the little pots in the kids cook kit from IKEA (called Duktig) at 3:35. The little base plate I drop in is from the Grundtal pot from IKEA. It sat in the bottom of that to be used as a utensil strainer. You can see it on a video over on shootingreview's channel: ua-cam.com/video/lFrBNjwBjpM/v-deo.html

can you link the bag
Sure. It is in this shop: www.etsy.com/shop/PNWBushcraft?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=622102769
Around how much does it cost

Why not just use a trangia stove?
I actually do sometimes use a Trangia burner. Sometimes I even pair it with this kit. It depends if I am going light or I am going out to really cook stuff. Is the Trangia your preferred stove?
Fine. But not a Hobo-Stove.
Es ist wirklich nur ein Spitzname.
