One important thing to consider: You can use custom wheels with the moza ecosystem, with or without their qr, or with no qr at all (with a 3d printed adapter). No such thing on fanatec. Actually I think there might be some simucube compatible wheels for the fanatec CSL DD base. But they don't come cheap. And if you want a completely incompatible custom wheel, you can't use a 3rd party qr, you must use a 3d printed adapter, and also you must use an arduino mini to 'fool' the base into thinking you have a fanatec wheel plugged in, cause fanatec bases won't work when they don't recognize a fanatec wheel. And the arduino mini takes a fair bit of know how to make it work, not as simple as plugging a into b into c, and having a working product. Which is far simpler in moza, and cheaper. But people not always try to shave 100 bucks here and there, and this is basically a non issue for those folk.
From my experience in ADAC Nürnberg Simracing Expo, in ACC, CSL DD is very good, but with only QR2. And QR2 is expected through this year for 250€... Without the QR1 I was surprised how things are changed for the FFB feeling. It felt smooth and details were very noticable, but for only 8 Nm, which doesn't feel whole car dynamics at all, it starts kinda 13-15 Nm hold torque ranges. I need to mention that Fanatec is marketing their products with Peak torques not Hold torque values. For example: DD1 is 15 Nm on Linear mode (which DD system is all about), but they say it is 20 Nm which is only applicable for Peak condition (you never want Peak mode with DDs, it boosts every detail up to 20 Nm so you can't differentiate any details). CSL DD (8 nm) is only applicable for PEAK mode. On LINEAR mode, you can only see 5 Nm, which is really really bad. Because of that you always must use Peak torque in an entry level DDs, and it is the same details CSW V2.5 8.2nm belt-driven motors from previous generation. Only difference is the reaction time and no friction force coming from belt. It feels to me that CSL DD is too light, but it does it's job very well for an entry DD. Moza is kinda dissappointing on FFB details compared to Fanatec because it is much complex software and a little bit robotic feeling on direction changes. The QR is rock solid. But the biggest issue is maybe with the motor design. Why am I saying that? Because I have tried every DD on the market (Simucube, VRS, Moza, Fanatec, Simagic, Logitech, Asetek), Moza has a BIG problem with Oscillation. If it was solvable through software, they could have done easily until now. I almost broke my finger when I used Moza R16 with GS wheel in Expo using an Formula 1 car. It was oscillating A LOT and when I changed directions, it was hitting my hand through the opposite side with a punch. If you cannot use a product %100 in software and change in-game gain FFB, you lose details. I'm using my Simucube 2 Pro (25 Nm) %100 always in iRacing at home, and never found any issue with the force, because in-game FFB gain is %38. It never oscillates, so I can leave the wheel both hands so that I can drink my tea and chill in long straights.
@@RichardLi-og2lb the opposite, it is mostly light and plasticy. grip was also thin. really only thing different than the formula v2.5 is the diameter of moza gs.
I have had both of them, would never ever go back to fanatec! If you are on a budget and plan to go for a wheel with the QR Lite, don't! QR squeaking and rattling with the QR lite is the worst thing ever, did not even want to drive after the squeaking got more over time, thought the QR will break any second. The CSL DD had random disconntects, because the shaft was not seatet properly in the factory, lost more than one race because of it...and the worst part for me was them wanting 200€ for the podium hub, just to put on custom wheels. Have not had a single problem with my Moza (6 months in), have not looked back a second and all this with a better price and higher torque! The only downside was at the time I bought the Moza the only available wheel was the GS because of which I build my own GT3 wheel but I could not be happier :)
Yeah. It seems the talk about Fanatec's QR2 is a discussion years in the making. It should have been sorted out ages ago. The new manufacturers on the block are showing them up.
And if they finally release it you'll probably have to pay 200€+ just for the base side and another 150€ for every single wheel (looking at the price of the current QR1) which makes no sense on an CSL DD. The CSL DD is a great base that is drastically held back by the QR and the locked ecosystem (custom wheels costing at least 200€ more because of the podium hub).

@@eRacingAcademy Thanks so much for the reply. Moza just sent me a lower price in my E-Mail for the R9 V2 and the standalone racing wheel. I could get that for 520€
Or I could get the Fanatec 8nm bundle for the same price with the base pedals. What would you recommend? I mostly drive rally and often have 2+ hours sessions. I like a lot of FFB aswell.
@@thatsmealrite8102 ı Dont have enough experience to judge both bases on rally.
On track conditions both have great ffb as a small dimension bases, but ı choose fanatec for having a little more details.
Both wheels can get hot around 55 degrees.
You may want to check this video; ua-cam.com/video/lU9j9--ipSg/v-deo.html
Thera are some 3rd party or d.i.y options for cooling.it may help not to lose ffb details on long high FFB sessions.
@@eRacingAcademy Thanks, I'll check it out!
Considering the news about Fanatec and their potential bankrupcy and buyout from Corsair and the costomer support issues. Would you still recommend the CSL DD as of right now or a Moza wheelbase instead?
Great video. Just want to mention that I have a csl DD and those clonks and weird feelings go when I use the retention screw.
Hi there, just to let you know we did all our test with the retention screw on. Even in the part in the video where you the clonks. Hopefully QR2 will solve these issues.
@@eRacingAcademy Oh right, maybe you got unlucky with your QR1. Yes hopefully the QR2 is far better!
@@fad2679no he want unlucky that’s what fanatec sells is junk ass qr1! Qr2 solves the rattle but you shouldn’t have to pay more for the qr2 and qr2 stem!
That "click" or "clunk" noise your hearing on the fanatec quick release is because you dont have the lock pin installed...once thats in place you wont get that.
Hi, unfortunately we got those noises when the lock pin was installed 😕
Wrong that locking screw doesn’t do shit!
@@SIMRIG412 wrong it absolutely stops any rattling when properly inserted
The Fanatec quick release really is kinda shit. The shame is that all they had to do was incorporate the same expanding collar they put on the DD1/DD2 into the CSL DD shaft and that would pretty much solve the slop issue.
I went for the Moza R9 v2... Fanatec has a lot to learn in regards of making their product available for people? Its just plain stupid that you have to order from their site and wait weeks for your product to arrive.
I have tested the DD kit at one of my friends place and its a very good product, but the availability of the Moza from retailers in my country was the tipping factor for me choosing Moza..
Took 2 days from order to it being installed on my rig.
Have a great drive.. 👍
I'm just about to go R9 V2 over Fanatec for this exact same reason. Not only is it a real pain in the arse to order from fanatec, I have to deal with import tax and the like. Where as Moza, I can buy locally. How are you getting on with your R9? Meeting your expectations?
@@HxR-eSports i freaking love it... Dont regret buying at all.. To be fair, i cant really separate them at all..
Reviews told me that the Fanatec has a bit more detail in the ffb, but honestly i could not tell 😅
It should be said that i have a lot more hours now on the Moza compared to the Fanatec DD i tested at my friends place... Maybe i missed something.. I dont know..
If Fanatec made their product more available, they would have sold a whole lot more of their products than they do atm..
I'm inclined to buy the fanatec, my only worry is the quick-release system I've heard they break easily after 6 month... thoughts?
Hi there! If you buy any fanatec base, please invest in the QR2!! It's so much better 🙏
@@eRacingAcademy Yeah but that is almost another 100 usd for base side and wheel side. Let alone product shortages.
The QR1 is garbage, the QR1 Lite is all you need for the CSL DD 8Nm, zero wobble, less weight than the QR2. Had hundreds of hours on QR1 Lite, brilliant.
I like Fanatec for whatever reason (The marketing probably got me! lol)
But the quick release is the sole reason I think I'll end up pulling the trigger on the R9
Both companies seem to have terrible customer service though.
I find this video a little confusing because Boosted Media basically said they felt essentially the same. Only that the Moza took a bit of tweaking whereas the Fanatec felt great right out of the box.
@@lakaiskates8064 I ended up buying MOZA R9 and I'm pretty happy with it, the 9NM are more than enouph for me, in fact, in high speed corners with high downforce cars it is even too much and I have to put it a little lower xD
So the wattage on power supplies tells you the power consumption and more RJ45 ports is better... I wonder if you can conclude(=manguess) if those are 1Gbit?
Moza has the R9 V2 out now. Have you tested it?
Unfortunately no. i just fint this post on reddit. it seems only difference is the whell connector pins. www.reddit.com/r/moza/comments/1094zka/moza_r9_v1_vs_v2_compatibility/
Have you tried the R12? Does the lack of "weight of the car/grip of the tire / feels" resolved in R12?
Hi there, unfortunately we haven't yet got our hands on a R12 yet but we've heard rumors that it is a R9 on steroids 🙈so not sure if it have a similar feeling but just stronger
any standard t nut can be fitted to mount csl dd and it can't be front mounted no mis info please
Hi Jero, we don't know how it is abroad, but in the sharp edges T Nuts we have here are not suitable. Also please look at the link below to see a front mounted CSL DD

I had FANATEC pins broke inside the shaft it was a nightmare to get it all worked out in the end sold my FANATEC stuff got the r9 and fsr wheel and a cheap Amazon round wheel with QR from monza and monza beats fanatec by a mile IMO won't won't be going back
It's disappointing how trash fanatec seems to be. I've been researching to buy my first DD wheel and it's looking more and more like I'm going to go with Moza. Any experience with their customer care? How's it held up?

I think you are wrong, you cannot mount Fanatec CSL DD from the front to that plastic housing
its only for adding dashes
hello, great video. nice review. waiting for logitech compare, should be a good fight. greetings
Can't wait!
I think lack of details on r9 because of weight difference. CS wheel weights 2,4 kg while ClubSport RS only 1,65 kg.
Hi there, it is true that the CS wheel is heavy but the detail we talk about in the detail is not due to the heavier wheel. The R9 feels stronger and hits harder on the bumps and kerb but in our opinion it lack on feeling the weight of the car and the grip of the tyres compared to the CSL DD.
@@guppyduppy1897 I have r9 v1, so ES wheel doesn't compatible. I definitely would buy it otherwise.

Simagic Alpha Mini or CSL DD?

your checks in the mail sir from Fanatec nice job
My Moza R5 bundle $565 just shipped! Gran Turismo DD Pro 5 Nm $700....UNAVAILABLE. End of discussion...
Where did you order from ?
you will change your mind when your R5 fails to connect to the wheel, becomes a 565$ paperweight and moza says screw you on warranty
@@hdvrNG The point is that there are other options in the market now. People don't have to wait for Fanatec to get their shxt together when newer manufacturers can deliver not only a better QR design from the get go but actually have stock available for purchase.
@@Grasss Funnily enough I have seen more people bitch about Fanatec issues than Monza.
@@kevinblythe2192 maybe its because Fanatec is a little bit longer/ bigger in the buisness and sells much more units?
If u include sales tax, fanatec cheaper.
It must depend where you live. I know for me here in Canada, going through a Canadian retailer to buy my Moza gear, I definitely paid much less than it would've cost me with Fanatec inc. shipping and taxes.
Fannetec was $1500+ with the cheapest wheel. MOZA was $1299 for whole ecosystem and 2 best wheel. MOZA smaller and stronger.
@@DeltaInsanity im in the market for the moza r9 wheel and i live in canada what retailer did you use that was cheaper then fanatec?
@@maxthibault3409 I bought from Pit Lane Sim Racing. I don't know if it's still cheaper than Fanatec, I've heard they've had some pretty crazy deals for the CSL bundles, but I'm incredibly happy with my Moza gear either way. It was also free shipping and I obviously didn't have to pay duty fees as it comes from within Canada.
Wrong lol moza is cheaper then fanajunk
I went with fanatec because pedals + wheel + wheelbase 8nm was only 499 eur

I try to avoid all made in china products if exists an option im prefer to spend more on products from other country better made because cheap is expensive sooner or later you are going to face that
you do know that iphones are also "made in china" right
I personally know several people that own Moza (including myself) and several people that own Fanatec. Literally every single Fanatec owner I know of has problems with their equipment, and usually dozens of problems. So far, up to this day, not a single person I know that owns Moza has had a single issue with it. So your idea that moza will end up becoming "expensive" is wrong. And this is coming from a FORMER fanatec owner, and I had to send stuff to fanatec to get fixed so often. I've never looked back and I'm WAY more happy now.
Fanatec sucks ,most sell for others , QR is garbage , wheels are garbage for the price . Unless you get DD1or2 with high end wheel ok , Moza 9 or new 12 better , new Asetek is cool . Hell the Logitech pro better than fanatec csl dd .

moza overheats
I use my moza R9 for sometimes over 10 hours in one session (with barely any break time) and when I feel the base with my hands, it's not even warm let alone hot. I also know of several friends owning moza wheelbases and none of them ever had theirs overheat or even come close. I only see a few posts of some people claiming this, which seems like an anomaly, but of course everyone jumps on the bandwagon and just adopts that idea.
would u still choose the csl dd just for iracing?
Hi there, we think so. Even though the peak torque values differ, the weight of the car and the amount of grip felt better with the CSL DD at much lower FFB values.
@@eRacingAcademy ye I ended up going with the alpha mini bundle only 150$ more 4 me just didn't want to have any issues tbh
