For me the Z shot was considered the greatest shot since it was a hill - hill match. Most of the players would do a safety play and wait until they can win the game, but the magician has the nerves of steel that can do that in a championship game that even earl was amazed and conceded from that game. Both Players earned the respect of people who watched that game. ❤
Efren had no choice but to hit the three ball since he himself caused the problem by playing safe behind the 6 ball and accidentally making the eight ball that left himself in that predicament.
you're not wrong. there really isn't any safe shot he could do. he had to go for it. however efren has done incredible shots in tournaments many times that most people wouldn't think of doing. and he does them with such grace and u can tell he's done them all many, many times. he plays like he slept under a pool table as a child. i've known quite a few phillipinos that are like this as well. he's really the goat to a lot of us that have reached a high level. i mean just his stroke is so much better than all the careful players. and dont get me started on snooker... @@anastaciogriego9279
@@anastaciogriego9279 Efren definitely got himself in a pickle when he knocked that 8 in and had to get himself out of the pickle jar by pulling off that Z kick shot
Efren Reyes shot, the last video. I think this was with Strickland. I won a Medium Rare Steak, Bake Potatoe with Bacon and Sour Cream and a side of Asparagus, with Horseradish and Gravy. Accompanied by a bottle of Coca-Cola. And the Spain shot. Just finished a sandwich and still have his bag. They were laughing when they handed him the stick. Then he did the shot. It was SWEET. I'm 50 and hoping my memory is still intact. Thank you for this. Stay safe
I've watched and played a lot of pool over my 50 years of billiards. I have never seen a better player than Mr. Reyes. It will be some time before we ever see any one better than him. It will be a long long long time before we see his equal
I 100% agree with you. he achieved his greatness despite his blabber mouth and arrogent opponents who tried to distract him and intimidate him . lets face it, he Efren Rayes is in my opinion the most tallented and most humble pool professional that I have ever seen in my lifetime. I hope he tutors someone who can understand his magical brain and carry on his gift with the humility that he constantly displayes.
I think of the two, the Melling run out is more incredible. Melling has sadly not had the career that Efren did. I'm reminded of Jimmy White, who was a great snooker player and nine-ball player. Look up Jimmy White pink and you will see an astounding shot. Yet, unlike Steve Davis or Ronny O'Sullivan, he never reigned at the top.
Efren's last shot you showed has a shot before it that set that one up is as good if not better than the "Z" shot; but the combo is how it should be shown as the true "MASTER PIECE"!!!
100% with you. Showing only one shot lets some viewers thinking "Oh wow what a one shot in a million". NO!!! He does 2 or 3 like these in the same match! And always few magic shots per championship. I've saw many from him. He's an alien.
I'd be interested to know which between Reyes and Strickland had the longer career as a hustler. Strickland was a child prodigy in the game and was hustling when he was a kid, but I don't know about Reyes. I heard that he hustled when he first came to America.
I don't doubt for a second that Evren was a hustler in the Philippines seeing as how his uncle owned the bar where he learned to play especially being poor it was a way to earn more money that he could make working for a living. He was so good that they wouldn't let him play in tournaments in the Philippines that's when everybody said you should go to America. He played under the assumed name of Cesar Morales in his first tournament in Houston Texas which he won.
The last shot = NEVER GETS OLD! it was awesome 1st time i saw it live; it is still awesome today! Of course there are much more difficult and spectacular trick shots than that; but do you dare do a trick shot on a championship match?
The most unusual thing about Efren is his understanding of angles. It's like he was born with a sight of seeing where the ball goes and bounces. No other player made so many unbelievable otherwordly shots like him.
Among all athletes that are considered "greats" within their sports, team or individual, I believe Efren is the best of the best. Total domination for many, many years.
I don't mind click bait titles and thumbnails as long as the actual content is top quality. I only despise click bait tactics when the content quality is mediocre or trash.
Honor a quien honor merece, bien pensado dejar al GOAT para los últimos tiros, como decimos acá en mi tierra: Efrén reyes es harina de otro costal o, el mago se cuece aparte...dios te bendiga siempre maestro...
Nice vid. Definitely if you do another edition, you should definitely include the Alex Pagulayan vs Jayson Shaw from the 2017 Masters where Alex's cue catches on fire, and then he misses the winning 9
Not only were most of these clips fascinating, but I had never seen most of them before (and I watch a lot of videos like this.) Great compilation. My only quibble is that the title of the video isn't optimal.
Thank you very much for this comment and opinion!!! There were many interesting situations but I decided to use only these because then the video should have over 30 min and this is too long😅
It was shown in this video, i think...the one which Efren had a sandwich wrapper in one hand and carrying a shoulder bag wherein he ws asked to play which seemed a difficult shot for them.
12:54 ahhh you have to see the full video for context. efren was spectating a game between 2 other players, the guy got a bad setup, and i think efren might have said he could make it, or maybe the guy saw efren and was like here you take this shot or something. he didn't even put down his bag and just made the shot lol. what a legend. i think most people that get to a high level know that efren is the goat. his stroke alone tells you so much.
The other guy was David Alcaide.. a Spanish 2 time World Pool Masters champ, the one who gave Efren the stick and held his coffee. David knew the GOAT can make that shot. ☺️
Finally someone that can bust and run! I'm working back up to it. Lots of topspin and power. Love seeing the cuw jump up a foot or 2 and run back through. Subbed based on that.
Love the show, that Earl Strickland has some shots that could easily be in that video! Plus Shane and Alex etc ,etc! You can make several videos of great shots actually!

Melling's runout is easily the best sequence of shots of all time. MAYBE Fedor's 3 jump's in a row vs FSR in the 10-ball champ was similar in skill but idk. Tough.
"In side pocket"... "WHAT?" Efren Reyes is so incredible. It's not a trick shot show, no he can improvise these shots from nowhere in real situations and got it at very first attempt. He's an alien.
Efren Bata Reyes is the greatest billiard of all time, not because he has an excellent skill, but also because of his composure, positive attitude and humbleness.
the foul at 4:28 is no joke. The man who taught me pool, way back in the early 1980's, told me how he lost his match against Willie Mosconi at the World Championships back in the 40'swhen his tie came loose from the clip and touched the ball. Mosconi ran the table and won. He said it was as close as he ever got to beating arguably the GOAT of straight pool.
JJ getting the cue ball cleaned and not knowing that clock was running, and him being the team manager, was perhaps the most embarrassing moment in pool. Still, it just shows that everyone makes mistakes. JJ! We love you! Brush it off not a problem!
I guess he still thinks the rules weren't replaced because during the early days of Mosconi cup early 2000s when one requested to clean the cue ball the clock got stopped. aww
I think that's the Minnesota Fats shot. He knew how to shoot 4 rails in the corner in that position and other players learned how to do it too since. They can make that shot over and over. It's especially impressive in the video because the object ball manages to avoid all that traffic.
Otherworldly shots like this happen: *Normal pool players: Wow, that was my best shot of my entire life! *Efren: Cute. I call that Saturday. Man, he's something else

That 90 degree left with the cue ball to make the shot was pure sorcery.

I always thought Tom Cruise was the best pool hustler........until I saw a guy named Efrin Reyes on ESPN dominating the Americans.
Efren is the best
I never seen Reyes on ESPN go back in the 90s. I was always watching Jeanette Lee the Black Widow. I love hot Korean chicks
