This is one of the best splitters I have ever seen!!! Very efficient. For one person, your production is excellent. Looks professionally made. Really good job on a nice piece of equipment.
Amazing ! If you would weld on a log retriever on top of the blue moving part in both directions, you would have almost a fully automated system. Just put the log on and wait for it to be completely gone automatically :D I would love to have that auto cycle, but since it's Arduino based it's not in my range of expertise unfortunately.
It's an awesome knock off of the Tempest (now Wood-Mizer) log splitter! Just wondering how the main cylinder works in both directions? A normal splitter retracts on it's own once it finished the stroke. I would love to see the inner workings of the machine and possibly the valve and how you have it automated. Any chance on a follow up video?
This is nice I guess if you like predictable dimension splits....Ahhh who am I kidding? Awesome! and provides built in kindling and some garden mulch as a bonus.
Very good design making it fast without much more effort, but I feel it needs a L-bracket to pull the unfinished logs back into the splitter until finished, which will make it even easier and faster. Great design though.
Excellent machine. Now, the only thing lacking: how to get the split pieces neatly organised (automatically) into a retaining device of some kind (bucket, pallet etc)
The only thing we are planning to add is a knee ESTOP. (For other comments). But a "drag back" could be added so the log comes back itself so you have more time to set up the next cut. I could split enough firewood in one day for an entire season with a machine like this!!. Was the rod used on the main ram a fork lift double actuated rod or a longer telescoping rod design? I have CAT excavator rods laying around, longer single stage. This design is very compact, bonus, bonus, bonus. Also adding the connecting points to the outside is an excellent idea. Also two smaller cylinder could be utilized and mounted on each end, giving support to both ends of the splitting block. Some of my 300 ton machines use two smaller rods, others use one large rod.
I've split 5 cords through it so far. Does what I need it to. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUyQswtttSffRMblGbrhCvZn7JkhtG1-7 I scrounge all my firewood and am not equipped to handle big wood, but for logs up to 24 inch diameter or so, it works great. I've been amazed by some of the gnarly bur oak and elm crotches it has split. For the tougher stuff within it's size range, you might have to study the piece a bit to decide the best attack, but if you split smart it's up to the job. It did arrive low on oil, and I was would have nicked it half a star for that, but it has regained my full confidence. UPDATE NOVEMBER 2021: Still going strong after all these years. I love the one-handed operation. Hope it's still in production if I ever need to replace it
#684 is a real ball busting productive unit. Something like this would work well for many years for many family members. Oh yeah forgot to mention this is Alaska USA baby!😘
I am trying to understand whats with the 58 dislikes? The only thing i can see is not have a return bar to pull the log back automatically. Other then that, its awesome
The auto cycle makes this very efficient. What type of switch system do you use to get the auto cycle? It looks like it has a two or three second delay before it reverses the cycle. That is the best setup I've seen.
yes it is custom made, the end-switches and valves are connected with the controller. The controller has 3 modes. 1: manual, as long as you push on the left or right button the ram moves. 2: if you push left (once), the ram goes left until the end and vica versa. 3: Automatic left and right with adjustable delay.
do you have some plans about this wood splitter... i want to know how you have done it with the hydrolic cylinder. I see the you have a Belgium number plate on you tractor. maybe it is better to conversate in dutch. Thank you very much.
Really nice efficient machine for single handed splitting, the only thing i would add would be an emegency kick bar/plate to stop should something go wrong. I see the emergency button but its out of reach depending on where your standing, a kick pad or bar reachable from any position would be better and give peace of mind too. hope you never need to use it.
Can you make a video of how you engineered it and what you would’ve done different if anything? I plan on building one very similar and would certainly appreciate any help thank you. Robert
Robert Bartolomie it is difficult to make an engeneering video, but my father used differeng parts of a forklift. He recently changed the block that is pushing from side to side. Instead of the connection in the center of the block he changed it to two connections more to the outside of the block. Tis beacause when the wood lays not in the center, the pushing block bended a little. This is now solved by using 2 connection points more to the outside of the pushing block. He used an hydrolic pump driven by the tracktor to pump oil to the main piston. To move the piston electronic valves were used. Hope this helps you a bit
Nicely made and well thought out however, I must comment on the safety issue at hand. With this machine in automatic mode it would not take but an instant to remove a finger or two. Have you thought about installing a KILL SWITCH near your knees so if it does catch a finger and/or hand you have some means in which to reverse the process before complete amputation? Just a idea!
good design and all....but you design it so you don't have to pick up logs from the ground.....and then allow the split wood to pile up on the ground....how about putting a trailer or bin at each end to catch the split wood?......
This is one of the best splitters I have ever seen!!! Very efficient. For one person, your production is excellent. Looks professionally made. Really good job on a nice piece of equipment.
David P well said brother!
This is the coolest wood splitter I have ever seen. Excellent job and incredible design. Bravo!
If that machine is "home made" you are an exceptional example of home-builders. That is one sweet machine!
Thomas Nelson my father (in the video) build it with pieces of a forcklift.
The fork lift has gone to a better place!
Sehr schlaue maschine! ich würde noch einen Bügel machen der die Stämme selber zurück zieht, somit muss nur noch das neue Holz beschaffen werden
A log sack and holders either side would be good, as would the retrieving fence as mentioned elsewhere here.
This is the dad of my friend. Very proud of them both.
Best splitter I have seen yet
That guy should get a job at NASA.......WOW ...thats a splitter
That's a nice log SplitterI like that I'll be watching more of your videos Stay safe have a good day🎉🎉
The best splitter on the net by far. Absolutely awesome!!.
Really smart using both directions!!! Now use a Peavey to roll the logs and save your back.
Great work. That looks as professional as any factory would make.
Amazing ! If you would weld on a log retriever on top of the blue moving part in both directions, you would have almost a fully automated system. Just put the log on and wait for it to be completely gone automatically :D
I would love to have that auto cycle, but since it's Arduino based it's not in my range of expertise unfortunately.
Probably the best yolk iv ever seen to be honest, awesome
love the automated function of the unit fast and easy.
Don’t get me wrong.... what a fantastic machine!!!!
Beauty. That's some good production.
That splitter is awesome, i need to buy it from you
man! that splitter is slicker than snot on a glass doorknob great design you should put it on the market

Double the fun. Very nicely done!👍🏼👌🏽😊
This is similar to mine. I watched very closely when I built liggetty split. This machine is sweet!
Nice machine!
Awesome splitter!
That look like it was factory built; Great Job. Very Nice easy working unit too
Wow! Ingenious!

i love your old tractor grate job
Very nicely made and well thought out.
You need to add two moving fences to pull the log back for you.
And a gravity feed magazine
And automated movement
Now that's impressive.
This is a Beast! Damn nice 👍
Excellent machine. Now, the only thing lacking: how to get the split pieces neatly organised (automatically) into a retaining device of some kind (bucket, pallet etc)
Excellent Job!! Have any pictures of how the push plate is mounted to the cylinder?

I like this design, what kind of wood was that .. very stringy!

dam great job really cool

That is just awesome. I want one
This is the champ!!!!!
think smart not hard good engineering idea
I like the fact that it splits both directions. Less work and more wood split.
So efficient. No wasted movement.
well done sir well done efficent best ever
Mooie machine, ik heb een gelijkaardig systeem.
Heb je al is beuk en eik geprobeerd?
Would it be possible to get an updated video with the modifications and also film on the underside to see the construction?
I am trying to understand whats with the 58 dislikes? The only thing i can see is not have a return bar to pull the log back automatically. Other then that, its awesome

It is a home made controller based on arduino.
Thanks, out of my league but thanks.

Love your splitter. What kind of tractor is that?
Mercedes-Benz MB Trac 800 ... 1976

Fantastic! I appreciate the reply thank you very much Robert
kool..if it was really long..you could make your own 2X4's..
Sure is faster than my maul and wedge...
Hope you are wearing ear protection........I had to just to watch the video 😂
holy shit this was so smart!
build one to, have film on my cchannel! :D

It needs a kill switch
It has ;)
You came see in video, Big Red button on control panel, E-STOP
I will sell this in the US start making them for me.
That's efficient!!!!
Productive. But makes one hell of a mess!
awesome.
very nice
nice !
That is the balls!
home made ? this sure looks like a tempest log splitter to me.
bos dad well its homemade so thanks
Clever
How did you make it fully auto ? You should mass sell these I'd buy 1 forsure
Nice Splitter, just subscribed, 🚜🪵👍🏼🇱🇷
Do you ever have problems with cross grain wood getting stuck in the box wedge?
Yes, but we made a tool that attaches to the moving part of the splitter to push/pull out wood that is stuck in the splitter.
what kind of ram are you using. is that pump a single stage pump or a 2 stage pump.
Two stage pump.
Genius
And here it is, dumping the split wood onto the ground. I will never understand as to why , they do not have a wheel barrel at each end.
It is not dumped ;) we collect it in bags as wood to start the fire !
very very good
if u can put a 2 sided pull back on hinges that would b it!
👍
Valt me nu pas op dat dit in Belgie is .... vanwaar (welke regio) bent u in Belgie ?
Lowland Woodsman kanten van Leuven
Looks like a copy of the Tempest splitter.
It's far better then a Tempest :)
How does one get in contact with you?
Homemade?! Unless the company you bought this thing from is named "Homemade Log Splitters LLC" 😏
I like it in one way, but it makes allot of splinters.
Spliters that can be used to start the fire ;)
Nice idea, but makes to much waste.
We use the waste to start the fire ;)
why do these box wedge splitters make the wood so ugly splintery?
Only perfekte 👍
good design and all....but you design it so you don't have to pick up logs from the ground.....and then allow the split wood to pile up on the ground....how about putting a trailer or bin at each end to catch the split wood?......
see ua-cam.com/video/f9di1M0BkTo/v-deo.html :)
I know of a wood ministry which provides free firewood to the truly needy who depend on wood for heat, I'm SURE they could use a machine like this.
We all love kindlin wood, but this splinter creates to much of it.....
Do you want to sell the plans to build this?
jim auger we dont have a plan ☺
Veeeeeeeeeryyyyyyyyyyssssslooooooooowwwwwww.... Were's second gear?
die Technik ist ok aber gibt Viel Abfall
Сколько грязи от калуна от бензопилы меньше телега чурок и утонул в шелухе.
Too slow, need more flow, better off split one way and pull ring back on retract with an arm, more efficient and less manual handling of rings.
bravo pour la fendeuse is top
viens nous rejoindre sur notre forum sechaufferaubois il y a plein de constructions personnelles
Total carbon copy of a Tempest. At least give credit where credit is due.
No matter if it's a copy, it's the man's performance that counts ;-)
Много мусора.
All that work... just split the whole damned round at the same time jeepers. Not difficult with hydraulics.
Langsam und uneffektiv... Da gibt's deutlich besseres!
