For everyone questioning about capacitors and fan speeds. This is a newer unit with a fan module on the back of the fan motor. The motor itself was fine the module was bad.
X-13 blues. Does it every time.
You’re blinding everyone anyway because you have junk LED bulbs in your HALOGEN reflector housings…. You have tons of light up in the trees on low beam…. Why? There are so many better options than being a scumbag.
I have installed the standard motor for temporary heating/cooling when those go bad and it’s going to be days for parts to arrive. It takes a little creativity to wire in…
@@waggtech4883 There are retrofit boards out to do that also as I am sure you know but maybe others don't.
It’s under warranty
You should connect your Bluetooth to the ACs that way cold air comes out from your phone
😂😂😂
That idea makes a flat Earth seem sane by comparison...
If only 🤣
Don't forget the app that connects your phone to your beer cooler! Although, if you actually want a cold one, yer gonnah grab it yourself or something.
@@Rekuzan That's why you train your dog to get it for you!
You need to get a ham radio license for emergency communication. They have emergency communication nets during Hurricanes, so you can get updated information as the storms move in.
Creature comforts may not be a critical thing in a "survival" situation, but it can absolutely make a huge difference in morale.
My central air died this year also and it's the compressor and the unit is so old that I have to replace the whole unit and a compatible furnace so I just went and bought a window unit. My electric company paid me 750 bucks for my central air unit because they couldn't fix it I had a warranty with them.
I have a lightbar on my truck and i have wireless relays to trigger it. Remotes are on the wheel so no reaching for anything. I treat it like high beams for when im on vack country roads or empty hiways, deer do a lot of damage... And we have moose here too
We have an emergency window air conditioner we use with the generator or if our house unit quits.
Middle of winter, fog, low and bright is a horrible idea, had to just use the parking lights on occasion.
Snowflakes reflect the light
Walmart found that they could save money by closing at 11PM. I have benefited from Walmart being open all night when an ethernet switch on a multi-million dollar machine failed and I was able to purchase several smaller ones at Walmart to get it back up and running at 2AM.
florida man should have an emergency window unit in the tool shed
a small / mid sied genset can power one or more
a soft start on a central AC can be run from a mid size genset
I can run my AC from a 6kw. check out soft starts
I have been contemplating getting a mini split that will cover 2 or 3 rooms just as backup.
Keep that wife unit children units cool young man
78'f is to hot?
Ray, do you think that AC outfit that you worked on their van might give you a discount on the repair since technically you have given them some advertising?
This is the reason my wife and I have been married for sixty years. She’s my favorite cook and I’m her favorite repairman.
I wish Walmart would go back to being open 24 hours they have night staff there all night long anyways 2:27 @Rainman Ray Off Duty
It's legal here in Australia and is needed and required, especially in the outback
Contrary to popular opinion, setting the thermostat to the lowest setting doesn't speed up the cooling process...
Rainman Ray Off Duty.. Did the exact same thing at my mother-in-laws hose a couple of weeks ago. She didn't want to pay extra cost of after hours so she waited until they could come out. Still charged her over $300 to replace the capacitor.
Lemme get this straight: You came across a late model RED Mustang on a Friday night, IN Florida.....and it was just sitting at the red light?
Are you sure it wasn't upside down in a ditch??? 🤣🤣🤣
That IS the natural habitat of the Ford Mustang after all...
When you become any kind of repairman you learn in life that anything done preventatively is still cheaper than one emergency call. Ray never thinks of just what's happening in front of him but he also thinks about the future with everything he does and that's how I like to live my life as well.
I'll let you in on a not so big secret, so does the rest of humanity, or at least the ones with responsibility, they have been thinking the same way ever since Jesus was a baby. A guy named Franklin once weighed an ounce of prevention and found that it was worth a pound of cure. Henry Ford took a ''just in case'' approach and attached spare tires to his Models A's, T's and put Ford brand wrench sets and a tire pump in the trunk.
On that note, I suppose we truly are regressing because the tire is gone but they do give you a can of fix a flat .
After watching your first video about this setup, I added the Southwest Performance All Four Headlight kit to my 2000 GMC Sierra Z71, along with the newer reflector-calibrated LED headlights. Dark back country roads, especially during deer season, are no longer quite so dark! (99-03 Sierras, Silverados, Suburbans, Tahoes, Yukons) Cannot condone high beam usage in foggy weather, so I didn't go with the All Six kit.
BuT tHaTs IlLeGaL 😡😡😡😡🤭🤭
@@RainmanRayOffDuty 🤣🤣🤣
Do you have a link for information on your led headlight kit? I have a 2000 Silverado and would like to make an LED mod to mine. I want to do it and not be the ahole that blinds everyone.
My hero
Its not all light on all the time, there should be no issues if used with high beam lights when appropriate. Now those new f 250s, there is something to complain about headlight brightness wise.
Rainman Ray the guy that never sleeps👍👍
Happy Wife happy life as they say.
Cheers
capacitor may be shot . mine went out 2 mos. ago on i Friday night .I had to do the same thing here in Charltte nc Got it fixed that Monday 97 out now 72 in the house =HAPPY!!
I'm surprised you don't have a smaller economical car to drive.. driving such a big truck to go shopping.
Walmart: "Attention Walmart shoppers - Walmart is now closed. Any one left in the store after closing hours will be sold for parts..."
Atleast you got what you needed right before they close Bro now you all will sleep good with some cold air 11:50 @Rainman Ray Off Duty
I put a walmart window unit in a few years ago when my AC broke a few years ago. I still use it when it's real hot. I absolutely hate walmart...
Capacitors are commom failure on home A/C units ! On the Fleece light cicuit works great except once a year I have to clean the contacts on it!
Not sure about this, but I thought you have a camper. If you do, then couldn’t have parked it next to the house, and use shore power to run the ac in the camper.
Ray, you know you have that camper that has an AC unit on it. The wife and I moved into ours for a week waiting for our AC to be replaced. Could have been fun for the Wee Ones.
With Floridas humidity it may just be a capacitor. Keep a spare on hand it's an easy fix and very common.
I bought the all lights on Mod after watching your video. It’s awesome and what makes it even better for driving around on dark Oklahoma back roads is having all LED lights as well. It’s crazy how bright they are with everything going at once. The “all lights” was a great upgrade for me. Thanks for showing that!
You’re a good dad and husband.
Hi Ray, glad to hear that you managed to avert impending disaster.
Yep, that was a CAT 5 emergency.
You could pretend that it's 1973 when no one had AC and turn a fan on. LOL!!! I didnt have AC in the house until I was 22 and it was a swamp cooler.... I was over 30 before I had AC in a car I owned. Now I cant live without it.... hahahaha... If it hits 74 in the house now, I'm dyin'.... I do know what it feels like to live in FLA and I'd be doing just what you are doing Ray... I respect you greatly doing this for the family at 10 at night. Good man!!!
Ray, you could use a cheaper, economical run around car to save miles on the truck. It's a nice truck and not replaceable.
Ray is now part of *People of Walmart lol 🤣
Our nights are warm. But I like it.
In Eastern Washington backup AC is pretty rare but backup heat (wood stoves) rule! Thanks for being Awesome.
Just because the cops don't enforce it, doesn't make it legal.
ANd you complain about people driving with highbeams on....
Get a military diesel generator to run your house 👍
I feel you my broke twice
I, too, run "Bambi mode" in my Ranger. The fog lights are always on because the wide angle is incredibly helpful for spotting critters (namely deer) on the sides of the roads, and when driving, like you said the low beams are direct to the road and the high beams give me the distance.
Also - is it an artifact of the video or does it look like in the 6:00-6:30 range, you can see some pretty solid bright spots up in the trees and telephone poles from your lights of some sort? I know that some LEDs don't "clock" correctly inside of halogen designed housings and can do some really serious light scattering if not properly setup, and that's a bit what that looks like.
Also also - I fully feel your pain and echo it RE: places closing super early now. I'm used to doing my grocery shopping between 11pm-2am, but nothing is open that late anymore, and even the 24/7 grocery stores in Michigan (Meijer) aren't 24 hours anymore. I know we're kind of spoiled here in the US vs the rest of the world, but I do miss that a lot.
Watch out for the cart narc 😅
If it can break it will and at the worst possible moment 😬 I would have been heated if that happened to me 😂 But I digress, Cool video 👊
Unhappy chillins and unhappy wife = unhappy life = late night run to Walmart! 😎
P.S. if you like that Mustang, search UA-cam for recently posted video about the radical 2025 Mustang GTD. It's basically a road legal version of their factory LeMans concept race car. $300,000 (est. MSRP) will get you 800 HP, carbon fiber everwhere, 8 speed rear-mounted gearbox and a perfect 50/50 weight ratio. Not too mention aerodynamic ground effects like you've never seen before on a Mustang.
They have begun accepting requests for applications to purchase one of the very limited number of GTDs that will be hand delivered to buyers in late 2024 or early 2025.
My '15 Silverado's stock headlights sucked. Put a set of 6000K Morimoto Elite HID light bulbs in from Retrofit Source.
Much, much better.
Glad u were able to get the ac from walmart. Same thing happened to me when my dad was in chemotherapy. Ac went out at 2am . Summer night in august in Bklyn, ny is no fun. Went to homedepot to get replacement for the bedroom. Was interesting when nypd showed up with me on ladder taping up gaps from the outside of our apt window.
I've always been a "More Lights" guy. I have a Jeep TJ that has H4 conversion headlights with 100/ 80 watt bulbs, Fog Lights on the bumper angled out at about 15 degrees for better side lighting, two sets of Driving Lights, AND Rear mounted Flood Lights. I have them all wired into a switch panel where the front lights can be switched on independently OR with the High Beams. The rear lights can be switched on independently or when shifting in Reverse. And ALL are halogen. I just can't see with LEDs with that blue tint to them.
Camp out in the truck? lol
Admit it, you went out in the truck to cool down yourself? 😆 🤣 😂
That could be the next modification for your truck, house cooling A.C. function 🤔 😆 🤣 😂
I'm near Chicago. Thursday night, it was 98F in my house. Upstairs was even hotter. With an 18-inch fan blowing directly on me, I survived.
Yep, Murphy's Law. Something similar happened to me in reverse, January 3 of this year the furnace went out (Colorado), had to do a similar run to get a space heater. As for lights, aux units come in very handy in areas with lots of wildlife, and I have to admit my ignorance that I didn't know that deer lived in Florida, I thought all you had were alligators and snakes 🤪 I fork mounted a pair if Denali S4 spot/flood LED units to my GSXS1000 GT+, on back roads they light up the entire road, in town they make sure that car drivers see me.
the A/C units for window is 110V so your generator should handle the load. fogs are great!
they are great for side view / ditch lights for critters and bad drivers in the ditches.
yes FL you can not survive without A/C ! high temp & humidity really bad combo for sleep!
with the A/C units and fans you should be able to cool things off well. thanks for sharing
your event to wrinkle your day, especially if the units were gone!
FYI, some vehicles have the always on low beams as the factory configuration or a minor hack to (temporarily) keep the low beam filament illuminated while the high beam is on.
2010-2014 Subaru Legacy/Outback (mine is a 2012, yours may vary): Low beams are engaged at all times the headlamps are on (except DRL). The high beam and passing light switch only operates the high beam lamps.
2002-2007 Chrysler/Dodge Minvans: The both filaments can be engaged simultaneously by pull the turn signal stalk to the half way point (passing light position) and can be left in this state as long as the stalk is held in either passing or high beam position (these are pull-pull to switch to high or low beam). This is only momentary to allow you to use the passing lights without allowing the low beams to go out and cause your lights to go dark when blinking high beams. Even on a straight road, don't leave in this state too long as the bulbs are not designed for both filaments to run at the same time and will overheat!
Recently returned from a camping trip. Outside temps 100 degrees +. House A/C unit was inoperative, 88 degrees inside. Called repair guy, condenser fan died. Fortunately the camper is stored in our backyard w/30 amp hookup, so we were able to run the A/C units inside. Spent the night in the camper. Next day, repair guy shows up with a very pricy fan motor. Should have been an easy plug and chug replacement.
However, repair guy failed to fully disengage the two 40 amp circuit breaker, so when he went to cut the wires for the failed motor, he caused a huge electrical arc. Fried the control board.
Long story short, it took four more days (weekend involved) to get a new control board. Spent 4 more nights in the camper.
I did have to pay for the fan motor and the service call, but the repair company had to eat the cost of the board.
It really chaps my ass when LEO's don't use turn signals. They of all people should set the example for others. And I can say that because I was one for 10 years. That was one of my needling points when training rookies..... set the example. So if anyone here is LEO..... lead by example would ya?
Just fyi,
My cousin a/c would not go lower than 82 degrees…. I’m diagnosing over the phone…. So I ask her if the thermostat was on wifi…. She said I can use my phone to control it the temperature…. So I told her to disconnect from wifi…. 1 minute later, the a/c came on… temp went to 74…. So she hooked it back to wifi…
Turned off….hmmmm
I think it may be illegal in some provinces in Canada, even fog lights are... in Newfoundland of all places... light bars are/were too. You could have them but couldn't drive/be on any public road with them. Parking lot/off road was fine. But it seems most cops don't bother you if you're using them as a high beam function and your not being a general jackass while driving. But yea... technically illegal in some cases.
My parents never believed in A/C - the first apt I rented had A\C & every house since - I also keep an extra window unit in case of global warming or the temps go above 100 again -
The very reason I keep a window unit and one of those portable units in the shop to drag out in case of system failure. BTW 2 of my 3 vehicles have failed a/c systems currently. 1 is an '05 F350, yuck.
I love that fleece module. I've been running it for maybe 2 yrs and change now. HUGE upgrade for rural driving. high beams alone just do not light up enough of the roadway to see deer and other animals/obstructions well enough for my area. I do the same kind of driving though, curvy rural highways with not much traffic, and lots of wildlife.
Problem: doesn't want to spend $700 to have a repair man come out to fix A/C
Solution: Buy $700 worth of window units.
I was raised in New Jersey in the 1940s and '50s. No A/C. Didn't even have a fan. Summers are hot and humid. I survived and so can you.
You sure do live in the boondocks.
I had a similar incident with my A/C. The outside compressor unit fan stopped working. Pretty easy to diagnose. I called around to find a motor, no luck. The unit is 27 years old and it seems no one stocks that motor locally. A local company ordered it for me and I installed it when it came in. The original unit was a three wire set up and the replacement motor was a five wire (so it could fill a broader range of replacements). I hooked it up like the original three wire and left the other two wires off. Turns out it won't work that way. I called the A/C company that sold me the motor and they sent a technician out two days later. He knew exactly what the problem was and had it running in about 30 minutes. He only charged me $50. On a side note, he saw my license plates - SEABEZ - and asked if I was a Seabee. I told him I was and he told me his father was as well. Turns out he was a Construction Mechanic as well. Small world. Managed to survive four of the hottest days of the year without A/C. First world problems..
We live in a small town and starting in the 80's power wet out 2,3 time a month from November through February and I got a 6500 watt generator and all the neighbours would drop in with microwave food and beverages and on a couple of occasions power was out for more than a few days and I would turn on the Christmas lights to let everyone know "Generator Party"
Still have that generator today
It's a Honda
All lights on means twice as much heat in the bulb filaments, and you risk total bulb failure, and putting too many amperes load on the standard loom. Upgrade your lighting wiring, and earths, otherwise you will eventually end up with no lights at all. You did a Scotty-esque bodge on your truck, and why spanner twirlers should never touch automotive or domestic wiring. Your truck you really do need yearly MOTs in Trumpreichistan
I miss our 24h Walmart if I'm being honest. But that stopped over 10 years ago. Lots of 24h diners and and pharmacies etc did too... really sucked since I worked a lot of evening/nights in the past and it was nice being able to get shit at 2-3am on the way home.
What kind of headlights you running in the Dirtymax? They look great. LED, hallogen? So many cheap and junk led bulb out there. But the ones you have seem to have nice distance to them.
On my 62 Corvair, I replaced one highbeam with a pencil-beam lamp. I wired it separately. It was amazing when I turned it on. The road reflectors were lit up, I think, a mile.
FWIW my Mazda, that has LED lights as standard doesn’t switch off the low beams when the high beams are turned on, so it’s lighting is really good. I don’t have fog lights as here they would be virtually useless due to atmospheric conditions.
Yes, I bought the all lights thingy for my 2005 GMC Sierra, works great, thanks.
Just got my son's volvo fixed and inspection done and my caprice ppv breaks ): .
One thing after another sadly.
Be safe.
Up here we've had the ac off all week. In the 70's!!! So glad I moved out of Florida in 2004, not by choice though, don't ask.
I installed LED bulbs on my Toyota Tundra and they work fine but I have no indicator on the dash when the lights are on. I also have no HI beam indicator. The indicator worked on the old bulbs. I never figured out why 🤔
What in the world did people do before central air???? Growing up in New Jersey We had color TV before we had air conditioning. window units in the bedrooms only. People today are really spoiled!!
I'm a auto tech in NC, but this video proves that you are just like us. As my drill instructor used to say "Suck it up buttercup". 😢😢😅😅😅
I'd fix it Friday If was near ya
What a concept for a UA-cam channel. Watch a guy fix semi-random stuff on cars and other things and talk 96.3% of the time.
Yes, I was went out too, it was a capacitor. They go out every 5 years, they said. About $12 for 1. That will power everything
It's stupidly hot in Florida dude my sea has problems cooling cuz the compressor is being over-worked
Yay.
Disaster averted, so Wife Unit and Little Units got to be comfy. Totally get that. Hardly ever happens in Ireland, but a hot night is a killer.
I’m lucky, I live in a place where we can leave doors open, so we set the house up for thermal circulation, leaving a door open on the north side of the house, all internal doors open and a window open in each room where we sleep. The resulting warm breeze keeps the humidity at an acceptable level, so we can sleep.
That all lights on module is really useful.
Yet another courtesy of modern electronics. Back when high beams were first invented, the wiring made it physically impossible to do this without running some extra wires to your headlights.
I have 2x spare AC units for this very purpose. One's a window unit, the other is a portable. And it is an emergency if the wife ain't happy....so everyone needs spare units.
I've concluded that if you install a backup window unit ahead of time, the central A/C will never fail. I've installed a window unit AND a backup generator just to run it and 3 years later, the central A/C hasn't failed even though we've had record breaking heat each summer and the highest temps this year many days over 105.
Also works for cars. Just scare them with the thought of replacement, if they keep breaking. Never ever call a Porsche just a Volkswagen though. The driveshaft center support bearing looked perfect before leaving for a long trip and it completely fell apart half way into the trip. Ironically a Volkswagen part.
I know this isn't much consolation here, but for years I have kept a spare motor and condenser for the evaporators and condensers in my house. The effing things almost always crap out on Friday evenings, and even if I am not home and "the guy" has to come out, the parts are available. Also, nowadays sourcing proper parts is such a pain in the trasero, it makes life much simpler. I also have a spare tire, wheel, jack and pads for my Teslas, and carry it when I am on the road.
"HELLO MUSTANG! Didn't I work on you a couple of months ago?"
One of reasons Waltin Co stopped using the garden center checkouts. Had to a cost reduction measure. They have to employ multiple employees to cover that area and they might get 5 customers on an hourly basis. Not worth it. And yeah nobody wants to work anymore
Even though I'm outside Chicago, I have 2 portable generators that I have only used 2x in 20 years.
9:40 my mom complains about the garden closure all the time... It's cause they cut staff and made money during that time we can't mention. They won't reopen conveniences like that unless they have to, cause that means they'd have to increase staff, again (something they were supposed to do as per there gov handouts, but hey whatever).
It seems like Murfy's law,"things will happen at the worst possible time"!Have a great weekend
My sons ac recently broke . The air handler had a problem . Found water had run over the circuit board and knocked it out . The condensate drain blocked up because something built a nest inside the drain pipe . Tried sucking it out from outside , then put a vinyl hose onto the vac and blew the line from the inside . Had to buy a new circuit board . Then had a problem with the strip heater staying on with the ac being on . My friend Jim who is an ac guy , helped me get the relays disabled . Ac worked normal after ward . Still have to fix the strip heater problem yet .
I remember FedExing a capacitor on Labor day weekend once. It cost me about 3x what the capacitor cost and of course it turned out that wasn't the problem.
Just a quick observation, why the red light in your interior?
Is there a specific reason or do you just like it that way??
Cheers👍
Don't stop talking, it is nice listening to you 😁 . Beter listening to you, than to some annoying "background" music.
“all i do is fix things are broken”. …… Brother, that’s WHY we watch you ..
Ray, I know you have already checked them but I have learned the hard way to have backup start and run capacitors for the air handler and condensing unit. They always seem to go bad at night. Just an FYI.
It’s the indoor fan module
Agree. Easy to acquire and economical fix when a failure occurs.
We're also in hurricane country. We added a 20,000 watt, whole house generator. It runs on natural gas. It will run both air conditioners simultaneously. I get that you live in the country; if you don't have natural gas, it can also run on propane. Just a thought; maybe not a good one.
