I remember being a young kid hearing this song on the radio for the first time. The guitar solo section was magic. I had no idea what instrument was making all of those amazing sounds; since I didn't know anything about guitar effects. Thank you for demystifying those amazing sounds for me all these decades later. I didn't know what I was hearing but I thought it was the best thing I'd ever heard. A little later my father heard me singing the Elton John song "Bitch is Back" and he took away my tape player and radio for several years: The dark ages of my childhood.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar Yeah I still think yours is one of the best guitar channels on YT. I can honestly say I wouldn't be playing guitar right now if hadn't stumbled onto your channel. Many thanks!!
Great lesson, KDA! You've got that ability to take a difficult song and break it down into bite sized pieces. Thanks for sharing your talent and time with us mere mortals. We're becoming better guitar players because of your generosity. Many Thanks, my Friend!
Really terrific lesson. So fun to hear this tune again. I was singing along to your playing. Really brought me back to the 70s, not that it takes much to do that!
Fun fact…the very first lick is backwards guitar…they recorded it, then flipped the tape over so it plays backwards…that’s why it sounds so different!!!
Wicked solo from Roger. I watched Roger play this in an interview and he plays this song tuned EADGDG and plays the solo in this tuning too. Tuning High E up to G works great using 8 gauge strings so you can tune up and bend that string without breaking it. BTW.. I HIGHLY recommend Billy Gibbons 8 gauge strings.
Brother that was a great lesson, I like the way you break it down into sections that way I can learn each section at my own pace, then go back in listen to the song over and over and about some months I should be able to play it
From the very first time I heard this song to this day, when it gets to this part of the solo (ie 16:00), clear as day in my mind I see two wolves call and response howling together in a snowbound forest.
Hey Kelly! Thanks so much for the lesson. It has helped me a lot. I have one suggestion, though. Maybe it's just me, but when you play the riff before detailing the fretting position, my brain goes haywire and I have a hard time following. I have to watch some of the parts 10+ times to get it right. Again, maybe it's me, but have you thought of describing the positioning before you play it rather than after?
Exactly why I decided to do standard tuning, haha. I watched that video actually. It's tricky because some of this solo is in alternate tuning, and some of it isn't.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar that's cool though Roger is such a laid-back dude man I'd love to have a beer with him and talk music. Yeah it's pretty wild that's for sure sometimes when you're doing unique tunings how you can easily break a string and the funny part was the way he said I think I'm going to break a string and he did.
Awesome video. Perfect pace. I found several notes I was playing incorrectly. Do you know by chance what the 2nd guitar is playing during the middle clean “Dorian” section?
Thank you sir ! I know it's too early for this request but how about 'Straight On ' ? I've yet to see any cover/lesson that comes close to the original recording . I'm tone deaf and too lazy to figure it out myself .

Mike (Art of Guitar) actually plays in a HEART tribute band! Really cool of you to plug his channel! Great song choice!
Didn't know that. Interesting. He's really good. Doesn't need my plug, haha. Wish he'd plug my channel.

You are just killing it lately. Love this song and the guitar work so much!

Thanks man! Appreciate that very much.
Kelly, amazing! You have truly filled the hole that James James left when he retired from UA-cam a year or so ago.
Yeah, but without James James sometimes thinly disguised attitude 😂. KDA is much more considerate of us learners👏🙏
I loved James James. He gave it up huh? Never did get to see what he looked like did we?
So true!
Excellent lesson…Thanks…Cheers Bob 😊😊😊
Kelly thank you for covering such a wide range of music. you sir have a great gift.
Really terrific lesson. So fun to hear this tune again. I was singing along to your playing. Really brought me back to the 70s, not that it takes much to do that!
I have always been intrigued by the main solo / lick of Magic Man. Excellent tutorial....really helped demystify those for me!
Fun fact…the very first lick is backwards guitar…they recorded it, then flipped the tape over so it plays backwards…that’s why it sounds so different!!!
Amazing! I was hoping you'd do this one. Love the solo.

Keep rockin these classics
Fantastic, love it.🤘
Another great pull KDA! They just performed this on the Stern show. Phenomenal.
That's what gave me the idea. Watched it the other day.
YES!!!!!! And in Standard!!! YESSSSS

Keep in mind they really did a great job in the studio recording this song bringing out the best of every note,,,,😎✌️🎸🎶🎶🎶💕
Hey KDA Great !! Hoping I’d hear some heart from you !!! Best tutorials , right to it
KDA…YOU are a magic man 😎
😊
Bravo! ❤ is underrated. Thank you sir
Very good stuff❤
Awesome tune Kelly, thanks
Cheers Paul, my pleasure mate!
I was mia for a while, very nice to be back and getting my guitar fix 🎶🎵🎸🍻
YEAH...Standard tuning means less guitars on stage! THANK YOU!
I love the whole Gypsy feel to this song.
Great lesson. Thanks!
Love the Woody Guthrie sticker!
Nice👏👏👏🎸

Such a great song. Every element conveys the mood. Question: was the intro solo played in reverse?
There's a video online where Roger Fisher shows how to play this
He tunes it way up and breaks a string too because it's a very fragile tuning LOL.
Exactly why I decided to do standard tuning, haha. I watched that video actually. It's tricky because some of this solo is in alternate tuning, and some of it isn't.

Hey Trucker Kev! Long time no chat!
@@garyh.238 hey Gary didn't know you were a fan of Kelly too 🤠
@@truckerkevthepaidtourist Yes Sir! Been over here for about a year and a half or so. Been putting more time on guitar lately.

Always loved this rockin' song by Heart! Thanks Kelly!
Pleasure mate!
KDA, would a Flanger suit this song more than a Chorus or Phaser?
Great lesson, can you please do "Milk Cow Blues" from Draw the Line by Aerosmith?
ooompossible to play without doing it in the Roger Fisher tuning.
the rhythm i : boom boom/ chi chi---not boom boom chi chi, chi. I too played this wrong (in a trib band)!! just sayin mate!
