- Despite the photo I'm not ready to take a hammer to my Pro-800.
I'm actually very impressed with this unit, so much so I've made this video demoing some of my favourite patches I've put together so far. If you are interested in getting a Pro-800 you may wish to hear the kind of sounds it's capable of. All my patches are demoed dry first and then with external FX from UAD plugins. If you are interested in the FX used I have a separate video on this topic.

Concering the MOD WHEEL: In my machine loaded with the latest V1.2.7 firmware (and according to the QSG PDF as of 2023-08-06), item 3 in the PERF menu lets you assign either Vibrato (as configured through PERF’s item 2) or the LFO to the modulation wheel. So, through the LFO routing, you can also tweak Osc A / B frequency and/or PWM along with the filter cutoff frequency using the mod wheel. Decoupling from the fixed LFO config is achieved via the LFO's INITIAL AMOUNT knob. Turn it to 0 and the LFO is solely controlled by the mod wheel. I have to admit that I didn't test the mod wheel LFO control myself yet.
EDIT: Just did a short test, but I don't understand how to choose the type of modulation the mod wheel controls. Default sounds as if it went to the oscillator pitch. I have to use max. mod delay if I wamt to hear the PWM I wanted to added per mod wheel, but the pitch modulation kicks in after some time anyway. Hmm ... 🙄 I'll dive into that later, maybe after referring again to Starsky Carr's great Review and Manual video ...
Adding vibrato to the patches which lack it (including many if not all factory presets!) is a piece of cake: PERF > 2 > Vibrato Speed: 666, Vibrato Amount: 37, PERF > 3 > Mod Wheel Amount: High, Mod Wheel Target: Vibrato, Modulation Delay: 0. And don’t forget to press REC and the two digits to dave your mod wheel mod 👍 I was quite surprised that this simple-to-provide control option is missing in so many patches. The 12 semitone factory default for pitch bend is also a bit strange in my eyes or ears so to speak. I stick to the usual 2 ST on my »Surrogate Prophet«.
My bottom line for today's experiments with the synth: If it had a mod matrix, then how should any other manufacturer ever sell a polysynth again? The Pro-800 is my new king of awesome 💕
Thanks for your comment. I’ll try routing some LFO to the filter using the mod wheel to control the amount should be good. I’ve no plans to do any commercial sound sets for the Pro-800 in fact I’m taking a step back from sound design altogether to concentrate on writing some music. What I have done is I have released a small mini bank for Wavestate/native where I’ve sampled the waveforms from the pro800.

Great patches. I especially liked Spaced Out Poly. I love that you included the mod wheel functionality. I’ve purchased two different pro-800 preset banks from some synth guys, sadly neither included mod wheel into the patches.

Regarding the mod wheel it seems it is only possible to assign the mod wheel to control vibrato (if anyone reading knows a way to control other parameters please let me know), hence why your sound designers probably haven’t bothered. Its not like most modern synths where there’s a mod matrix whereby you can assign the mod wheel to modulate anything.
@@Angelstarscotland maybe a future firmware upgrade if enough people request it? I'm hoping for a better interface for patch management and naming. Aside from those little annoyances it's a killer little synth, especially considering the price point! I haven't had any desire to open my soft synths since I got it.
