I just started creating in that ginormous Moleskine and I totally love it. This video is so inspiring - I just adore your enthusiasm (“….makes me so happy!” is now one of my fave phrases🥰)…not to mention your fantastic eye for colour and composition, your sense of humour and your sheer prolificness. You.Are.The.Beans
There are so many pieces that I loved but I really really appreciated the point of view (slightly upwards or straight at it) of 19:35 and the mood of the very next painting (and the next, especially the colours on that one). I could go on and list what I love about each of them! These flip throughts are very inspiring, thank you for sharing them!
That animal page (@ 22:45) makes me so happy! I can't wait until you print your sketchbooks, Sandi! It will be so awesome to dip into your books for inspiration! Super excited about another class!
I loved your owl as an old man pages and the following page 10:05 with the birds that you didn’t like at all. I think they’re brilliant. Also, love your owl pages.
I really love your art, so colorful, spontaneous, intuitive, inspiring. I mostly love the pears paintings, because pears are very interesting to paint. But all your art is wonderful, magical and encourage to enjoy life (because it show how life is beautiful through artistic eyes. It's also how i want to be, because even if i like my drawings, i feel i should make more spontaneous drawings too.
Sandi love your Hair Band. Beautiful. Love your sketches ..gonna have to try That " Moleskin" sketch book. I have never tried " Oil pastels"? Do you illustrate??..on books 📚
FriYAY. That sure is ginormous..thank you for sharing. I cant wait to hear about the adventure in 2 weeks 😀🎉 stay safe, stay healthy, keep being you Sandi Hester 🥰
I remember when you got it. I bought mine from that video. I love it so much. mine is about 1/2 full so far. I loved seeing this. I remember the tiger painting you did.💕
getting the time span over two years is so interesting to see, like you pointed out as well - the progression of style and fluctuations in subjects! really fun, thank you for sharing with us :) every time i see your art it inspires me to work on my layering! the layers of colours and textures is one of my favourite features of your work
Thank you for the video, Sandi! I gotta say, that little chicken in the top right corner of the vintage toys made me so happy! I love those little details that you catch on the second or third look!
Thank you Sandi! I love the “we love stripes and spots” page as well as the animals on the next page. I WANT TO PAINT! Thank you for continuing to inspire me.
Just sat down to relax & I thought OH it's Sandi's Friday. So enjoyed seeing your sketchbook & all the things you have done. I love the big canvas you painted. I know I would be excited to go have coffee with you too. I'm sure your young college student is getting great advise. Can't wait to hear what news you have in 2 weeks.
Loved this Sandi! Fantastic! That vintage toy spread made my heart happy! When you mentioned Cooper i felt your emotion 😢❤Thank you for sharing lovely lady! x Nell.
Hi Sandi, I had a thought. I really like it when you have something to say about a particular drawing where you can explain what was going on when you made the painting. What you like in particular and what you don't like, things like that. Certain techniques, or challenges you had when doing it, etc. I thought would it be useful for posterity (and maybe your future sketchbook publications) to keep a written diary of these kinds of thoughts and impressions when you make a painting. I remember you did some of that in your sketchbooks during COVID lockdown. I'm not suggesting that you write IN the sketchbook, but perhaps when you date a sketch you can have a separate notebook and indicate the date and title or description of the sketch and then write your notes that way. That way, if there is something important to remember, you have captured that, and maybe maybe there will be something useful to you in the future. What do you think? It doesn't have to be to involved just a few sentences about it, that you consider important to recall to your future Sandi-self. Cheers from Berkeley, CA ❤🐦
I love your channel and your work. The painting at time stamp23:21 is exquisite. I can imagine it as wallpaper. I also am working in a large moleskin like this and I am going into my 2 nd year of working in it. So wonderful. There is nothing like drawing and painting and to watch you work is so inspiring. Really enjoy seeing all your work.
Omygosh, Sandi, I want to buy all your work!! 😊 And, I love how you always tell us we can't get everything perfect all the time. This helps me. My friend's mom, a weaver, used to say, nothing is perfect except for God --- also very helpful to an imperfect artist like me! Especially as I'm drawing moths...they in all their beauty are hard!
Love your sketchbook tours, but one question on this one: if you aren't going on location and want a big format, why use a sketchbook instead of a large sheet of paper? I remember your video on buying large sheets in bulk. Then you wouldn't have the split in the middle.
Thanks for sharing this BIG sketchbook --- I love so many of the sketches...one favorite being the last SANTA FE sketch...so pretty with all the shapes and colors. I look forward to seeing more in future. (And YES, it makes me want to go paint now!!) And maybe I'll try to "round up" a large sketchbook...maybe from Blick!! Best wishes to you!
I actually had it before she mentioned it. I got two at the same time and finished this one before the other one. She definitely made them popular though!!
You writing in your Paintings reminds me of " Retablos" where the painter or person would write their prayers or petitions on the painting ..kinda like a small Shrine with their religious relics In them.
Wow this was so inspiring! Thank you for sharing. I love how this is a reminder for me to stay loose. I’m loving your bird course. I’m still right at the beginning because I’m redoing the warm-up exercises, learning them and loving it. Thank you so much.
This was definitely inspiring! ❤ I already had this jumbo moleskine for my plein air landsxape painting but now I'm taking some life model lessons and I think I'll like using this size there too! 😅
Sandi loved this video and feel so inspired!! I always work in small sketchbooks and get way too detailed, so I would love to try working in a bigger size. Can you tell me the measurements of your jumbo book. I did use your link for Dick's but feel unsure of what size to get. Thank you in advance for your help, and that you for always, always being so kind and generous with sharing your talents!!
I don't know myself about the moleskine, because i have only medium format, but i have a goldline in A3 format, so maybe you could consider the A3 size for a jumbo format.
Hi Sandi, I really enjoy your videos. :) Thanks for this! Wanted to ask for a video in case you need ideas for new videos: I haven’t felt satisfied with my art lately, doing it is fun but when I see the result I often feel disappointed, I don’t know why… how do you find joy in your own artwork? 😢 I often feel all I’m doing is creating trash to be recycled.
I wonder if you give it some time and look at it later if you’ll find that you like it? I would also encourage you to try to find little bits within each piece that you DO like. Maybe you don’t like the overall end result but maybe there are bits here and there you do like. That’s how most of us began making work - the overall was bad (because we had so much still to learn about composition and value and the like) but there were good bits of it

Thank you!!
I love the boat painting
Thank you!
Your Emma Carlisle picture of animals would make fabulous wallpaper for a kids bedroom. Love it.
Yesssss it would!!! Or even a bathroom!
Your Emma C sketch about 23 min in of all the animals might be my favorite sketch of yours of all times!
That large painting on canvas is beautiful
Thank you Meredith!!!
Sandy you are my new favorite artist. Your art brings me so much joy.

Amazing ❤
I enjoyed your sketchbook very much. It's nice to see what it looks like to just go all out and try things.
So glad you enjoyed it!
That full spread @23:00 would make a killer wallpaper! I could so picture it in an eclectic Victorian house surrounded by beautiful woodwork

How do you keep pages painted in acrylic from sticking together?
If they are sticky then I either put a piece of paper between them or I use glassine paper between them. But they are usually fine
What’s the size of the sketch book 😮😮😮 😊
I truly admire how lose your artwork is. Whenever I make any art, I'm so stiff and I overthink everything.
It takes time and practice to overcome that. Keep at it!
