Sandi, I love your sketchbook tours because every page says, "Fun, Play, Exploration, Learning, and Knowledge Gained!" I feel so intimidated and discouraged seeing other artist's "curated" pages, which make a sketchbook look like a contender for a museum collection rather than a place to stretch oneself.
I love your sketchbook tours because it gives me permission to play. It’s not about being good as it is about playful expression. Then you can. Get it all out and move on to other projects.
I have such a hard time doing this in my sketchbooks. I’ve discovered keeping a ton of printer paper on hand that I can be free on helps me. If I like the results, I can tape or glue it into a sketchbook. If not, I throw it away.
Sandi, I have hoarded sketchbooks and pretty little journal books for my entire life (58 years) until discovering you and your wonderful channel! December 2022 I finally took your advice and began using one of the many I have "saved"! Today, I sold two watercolor paintings from my sketchbooks......I sell paintings often but these were just my practice sketchbook ones! Thank you for all the inspiration and for the fire you lit under me to use those books! BTW I shop at the same Jerry's!!!! Thanks for being YOU!!!!
Once I got over trying to make all the drawings my sketchbook finished pieces, I’ve accomplished more and had a lot more fun with materials. Thanks for the inspiration.
I can't wait for the publication of your sketchbooks! It will be such a thrill to linger over the images, move the pages nearer and further away for perspective, and look at the lines and brushwork! I have just recently recovered from Covid, and I had the opportunity to rewatch many of my favorite Sandi videos! Your artwork and enthusiasm always make me smile and motivate me to get out my supplies! Thank you, Sandi, you are a blessing!
I have been working in my sketchbooks the past few months motivated by your freedom and play. My husband will sometimes catch me and give a sort of judgmental frown and I feel a cold chill BUT I immediately think of you, Sandy, and hold my ground internally. Thank you so much for supporting this kind of art work. It's a very immediate, tactile, and intimate way of working that leaves me feeling more alive (even in the face of criticism). Sending best wishes for 2023!
I sincerely hope that what I’m about to say is received as a compliment, because it is intended to be a most observant and intentional compliment: I personally do not enjoy your art but I do very much enjoy and respect not only your technique but what I can glean to be the reason that your style is the way that it is. You’re so focused on just having fun and experimenting and that makes everything so exciting and aesthetic! I can tell that part for you really is an expression of the inner child, more so than I think I have seen from anybody. The vibes of your artwork is absolutely fantastic. And even though I don’t personally like your style I admire the fact that you commit to it so much that it is a noticeably childlike and defined style. Your art is a pure act of commitment and expression. I’m so excited to dive deeper into your channel! Thank you for being you and thank you for giving me and the rest of the world your opinions and experiences on all of the different brands and mediums that we can use to express ourselves with!
Lane I totally get that - there’s definitely art I don’t care for but can respect it and learn from it! Art is so subjective but there’s things to appreciate in all of it!
Dear Sandi. Your sketchbooks and art learnt me that the ART is not about how good I am in painting or in drawing but how I show things which I see and how I feel about them. Thank you very much to get back my happiness for creating. ❤😊😊
Sandi, I love the dear picture where the deer are transparent on top of each other. I've seen it before when artists put deer and other animals with it. I love yours too!!
Hi Sandi! I enjoyed your tour, it waa fun, I especially liked your new paintings, it is great. Maybe it's just me, but when are we going to see you again?... LOL. I always enjoy watching you paint and working with colors, and explaining the process. Hoping to see you working on a painting in the near future. Have a great weekend.
i love all your sketches, very beautiful and it reminds me of my childhood where you painted lots of geese with the lake, and those trees behind it , it just remind me of a place in wisconsin that i get to visit every summer! Im also going to college to learn different techniques in studio arts and this video motivate me to play with many materials and start a sketchbook journey, god bless you and all of you creative souls!😊✨🌞
"...without having to wash my hands..." lol! That'll be awesome to buy one of your sketchbooks, I can't wait. I love the line work figures you do. They're always so interesting. I am studying them 🧐👩🎨 And some of your indoor scenes with people, the style, reminds me of Maira Kalman's work as well. So much fun!
Thank you Sandi. So glad to see you, if only your hands. They are of course, lovely but I miss your lovely face. Hope your holiday season was grand and you are keeping well. Your sketchbooks always encourage me.
Hi there! Best to you and yours for 2023. I have been able to spend time most days these past two years from the inspiration of your videos working and building my practice. Life got in the way for much too long. I wanted to thank you for sharing your practice!
Your sketchbooks make me appreciate how even in the busiest scene, you find the big shapes and make them the heroes of your work. All the best to you for 2023. I'm looking forward to your landscape class.
Thank you Sandi, you taught me to use my sketchbooks as reference for paintings. I know sounds obvious but I wasn’t doing that before. Always love your birds, that’s what you were painting when I first found you. Also liked the idea of doing quick pieces of landscapes while being a passenger in the car. Great ideas. 🙋🏼♀️🌻🇨🇦
Yes, books please!!!! And ship them to Brazil! And when are you doing your own patreon? I’m finishing my PhD, which means my time will be mine again, and want to go back to drawing. Drawing sessions with you would be great!!!
These sketchbooks are completely wonderful, and you are sooo generous with sharing your process with us! I cannot wait for your landscape class! Every video you post brightens my day and is hugely inspiring! So thank you! And May 2023 be full of inspiration for you! ❤
Since I've found your channel, you've opened up a whole new world to me and I will always be grateful. God bless you and Grady as you begin this new year.
It's great that you have the sketchbooks as a place to practice your naive art in a safe, without judgement zone. It really does not matter what anyone else thinks and that's the key to enjoying your creative life. Keep having fun with your supplies.
I love your sketchbook tours!! Thank you for sharing! I learn so much! Because of you I have more sketchbooks going at once. I use them all for different things. I keep one in the car also now. I feel sketch booking has helped me grow also. Thank you for suggesting it and helping us!!
Happy New Year, Sandi! You are my favorite artist on UA-cam. I love your long Vlogs, your passion, your process, your art, it is just all so full of joy and inspiration. Thank you!!

Your work always makes me happy and gets me itching to start painting or drawing. Lovely to read so many people are inspired by it. When your book is out I will be a happy customer (please make it available in the Netherlands). Best wishes for you and everybody reading this.
I love how you draw. Everything. I follow you on Instagram and I always first love something and then realise it’s yours. Not because I don’t recognise your work (because I do) but somehow I always first connect to the painting and then (in a split second) see that it’s your work.

You have helped me so much already, i was slowly working into a slow painter’s slump, and have now devoured through my sketchbook just in these short weeks. Love my sketchbooks and how freeing they are since they're just for me. Oh and, the landscape to the finished piece...incredible. Hard to understand how you get from the sketch to that marvel but years of work and your artistic talent, sounds about right. Really looking forward to the class! Thanks Sandi

Interesting- definitely don’t feel serious 😂. I do think I’ve filmed at times when I’ve been sick so there was probably less energy. Been sick for a while. Getting over the flu now 😫

Very inspiring especially how you use them to create larger paintings. LOVED the painting you showed! Also, as regards the blank pages i have been using a layer of clear gesso to keep bleed through from happening. I still prefer working direct on the paper but it protects well the other side of the page.
When you show all these paintings of the same scene and they all come out different....that reminds me of all the self portraits that Bryan Louis Saunders does! Same face- but all diffrent!
stunning work. that pencil drawing at 17:37 looks crazy good as a thumbnail too - that's really difficult - to get that kind of effect when you're working close up. amazing
I am truly inspired by your art practice, Sandi. I hope I can in the new year start a sketchbook practice. I love the idea that you will be making art books out of your sketchbooks to sell. I love all the textures and the loosey goosey lines. Hey... is that why you are drawing so many geese as of late??? 🤔 Hmm....
Stunnnnnning Sandi. I could look at these for hours and hours. There’s so much to see and take in. Gorgeous! I miss seeing YOU in your videos though. Is that weird? Haha. Happy New Year!! ✨

it's so interesting to see all your sketches and experiments in your sketchbooks. love them! I have a question about your sheets of paper between your sketchbook-pages: You said, that they should be acidfree. But is your tracing- or wax-paper acidfree? Can you leave this wax-paper-sheets in your sketchbook for longer time? or do you take your wax-paper-sheets out, when you put your sketchbooks in your shelf?
Lovely sketchbooks! I will add my voice to the several people asking for more videos of you painting, as you used to show… but I am wondering if perhaps you will have that footage in your upcoming landscape course?
Sandi, I love your sketchbook tours because every page says, "Fun, Play, Exploration, Learning, and Knowledge Gained!" I can’t remember the name of the tier but it’s not the highest one - the one down from that
@@sandihester thanks Sandi. Going to join in 2023 x
Love your sketchbooks. Miss your vlogs but I know you're working on classes.
it's so interesting to see all your sketches and experiments in your sketchbooks.
I’m not sure if those are acid free that’s why I use glassine
Can't wait for your "sketchbook" book! Any chance you'll do pre-orders so that you don't run out before I can get one? ;)
We would probably do preorders
Hi Sandi,UA-cam suggested you and I’m glad they did. What is the name of the painting on 22:34? Who is the artist?
Love your sketchbooks.
Lovely sketchbooks! I will add my voice to the several people asking for more videos of you painting, as you used to show… but I am wondering if perhaps you will have that footage in your upcoming landscape course?
Yes, lots of that kind of footage in the landscape class
