Thanks Ish, great videos. Can you make a video on the first timer's guide to casting a spinning reel with a crab snare? I am used to small gear casting with tiny stuff in fresh water, and I find it challenging to hold the weight of the snare with my index finger with the bail open. As well as timing the release. And what to do with the drag? How do you set that for crabbing?
hi, so i tighten my drag all the way to minimize the line slipping, so the braid doesn't cut your finger. ok, in my next crabbing video i'll try to explain how i cast all the weight👍🏼
Thanks for all that info Ish! I really didn't think that the color would matter but it does people looking at you or thier already crampy because they haven't caught anything or they keep on getting tangled with others great idea gotta do that knot! Really when we out fishing to the getty I like going their the most well depending on the condition of course! See you some day Ish! Thanks for all the videos!
Israel Rivas right on dude! yup color def matters when the pier is stacked. this line combo should help you see your line and feel those snares as much as possible.
Thanks for the videos! Looking for decent 6000 reel, you have the Fierce II, what about the Pursuit III for about $80? I don't like the crowded peer with my kids, prefer the surf. Thanks!
the Penn Pursuit III is a great choice! but tbh the Daiwa BG 6000 and up is better, has a much stronger main gear and should outlast the Pursuit, Fierce and even Battle. have fun!
Hi Ish, have you used an Okuma avenger bait feeder saltwater reel size 8000? It is a graphite body. Since you mentioned graphite body not recommended, It is a good price reel. What you think?
i've never used them but i've only heard good things about them! a lot of guys use that model on the pacifica pier, and i'm sure it would be fine for crabbing (plus the added bonus of the bait feeder option for big game). i happen to prefer full metal for crabbing, altho tbh my o.g. Master graphite reel still works! i think penn makes a fierce ii live liner and ssv live liner if you're looking for a full metal bait feeder reel.
Cool video, but they make braid in high-vis colors that are very easy to see even after fading. Suffix 832 has a line green I use that holds its color for over 2 years now.
Really good videos. Really enjoy watching them. I had a question about what gear you recommend as in the rod and where you can get good snares? thanks!
thx man. i recommend a min 10' ft MH or H rod, min 6000 full-metal reel, min 20-30 lb test line. if you're on a budget, a 10' ft Daiwa BeefStick rod ($20 on amazon) and a Penn Pursuit 6000 ($40 online) and Berkley Big Game mono ($6 for 500 yds) is all you need. i make my own snares, but you can buy some great ones through Matts, or decent ones at any tackle shop. if you want a good diy snare tutorial, check out my dude Ernesto's vid ua-cam.com/video/TLrfPi42fW0/v-deo.html
@@ishwithfish right on. Found the Sedona8000FI on sale for $55. Hope it will to the job also. I'm a Daiwa guy so I'm not keeping my hopes up....bwahaha.
An old video but still pertinent today. The pier is closed again and a lot of us have been going to different beaches. One thing all of the beaches have in common is the rip current. With the large waves we have been getting the weight of the snares has increased a lot as in 12 ounces or even more. I have snapped one off by dumb fingering my line and I use 50 pound braid. I have been thinking of adding a 100 pound mono leader to my line? Just thinking about it so far. Has anyone tried it yet??
Would this topshot setup also be a good idea for crab snaring from the surf? Also, I noticed you use 20lb test - is there a reason why you're not fishing with 30lb?
+Jeremy Lee not needed for surf, just useful in crowded areas like the jetty or pier when guys are shoulder to shoulder. also, disregard my 20 lb recommendation, the line won't hold knots after a season. go 40 lb and you're good👍
Thanks! Yea 20lb sounded a bit light. Would you say 40lb mono backing w/ 40lb braid topshot then? Or if I had 40lb mono backing with 30lb braid topshot, would that work? Or do I just want to keep it the same throughout w/ 40lb being the minimum? I just ordered a 6000 size reel and am borrowing a friend's 10' rod.
@@xxkasperxx tbh i haven't tried the Fierce III yet, but if it helps, I ran a Fierce II 6000 for 2 years with no issues. i still use a Fierce II 6000LL for crabbing today and it's great. the Fierce III should be great.
@@ishwithfish thanks buddy...Ive yet to catch my first keeper...been skunked at baker and sharp park ...hoping a setup change will help !! Currently have a cheap okuma combo

I’m a slow learner but even I learned something , good job thanks Ish.
Thanks for the crabbing tips and for providing the gear website. Just ordered some new gear.
Good video Ish! Made the instructions easy to understand. And really loved the "art work," and to the point. 👍👍👍👍
vladimir que thanks Vlad! trying to relay a new idea that i think will help the local crab scene.

What do you think about the Penn Pursuit for crabbing...?
the pursuit iii is a great option! best reel for the money in that budget range.

Lol. You recorded someone taking a leak at Pacifica.
Daniel Felmoca 0:37 oh dang never noticed that before! lololol
Have you ever gone to pacifica pier after closing time? Do you know if they lock the gates after 10pm? I wanted to crab at midnight
Daniel Felmoca That's hilarious! No wonder that corner always smells like piss 😂😂
@@nutsack-1904 ive been there after midnight before but that was many years ago...
What do you think about the Penn 6000 combo?
i like the reel, but the rod is a little heavy for me. the prevail is a better match if you want the full penn combo.

I want to try this for spiny lobsters down here in San Diego
Lamar Price right on, gl! never seen a lobster snared like this, that'd be awesome.
good job very informative preciate it

+Jeremy Lee I'd say 40 braid/30 mono. Should be good enough to last a few seasons. 10' rod is perfect.
What was the name of the knot you used to add the braid ..I have 300 yds of 65lbs braid .is that enough for my penn spinfisher 9500
Eric Villasenor i used an FG knot, i added a tutorial in the description. oh yeah, that big SS should be able to hold 65/300 easy.
Btw great video..keep it up👍🏻
My okuma tundra combo reel is trash...can anyone recommend me a reel and size for Baker or the Pacifica pier?!
Daiwa BG 6500🤘🏼
