Logically, it seems best to maintain a cool, straight-bat approach but gradually push to patrol more of the disputed (illegally by the Chinese) zone so as to make clear that the Chinese claims are utterly and universally rejected and that all necessary force will be used to reject them. Two things here: 1) start escorting with F-18F Block 3 & EA-18G Growler. The F-18F is the 2 seat version, which allows the pilot to focus on flying & the back seater handles RADAR, Comms & Weapons etc. The EA-18G is the 2 seat electronic warfare version. The Growler can jam, overwhelm etc the Chinese fighter's well pretty much everything. An alternative would be to start putting AIM-9X Block 2 (which can be fired off bore sight) missiles on the P-8 (it's already got rails for the Harpoon Anti-Ship Missile & Torpedoes). 2) The P-8 Is equipped with an AN/APS-154 Advanced Airborne Sensor, which is a double sided AESA array, that provides just short of 360 degree coverage. The AN/APS-154 is so advanced it can scan, map, track, & classify targets on both land & sea all near simultaneously. It only takes a software update to add and/or enable the Air mode as well. In other words it's recording everything about the Chinese fighters, things like J-20's RCS (Radar Cross Section: Stealth or Low observable), exact dimensions, etc.
KG3000 is 1 generation ahead of EA-18G, there were many electrical warfares between China and USA. US navy shall know this pretty well. This video shows 2 fighters surrounding P8, and of course, KG500 was nearby as well.

I think the navy only uses the f16 for training their pilots and using them to simulate enemy aircraft capabilities in training but the navy has less than 50 f16s the airforce probably has the most f16 and the others.

theyre on vacation, the F35's have been shadowing those J11's before they even had radar contact of that poseidon.
I think the navy only uses the f16 for training their pilots and using them to simulate enemy aircraft capabilities in training but the navy has less than 50 f16s the airforce probably has the most f16 and the others.
