I live this date window placement! It’s barely visible and doesn’t interfere with any of the hour markers making it look like a no-date watch. You can’t do a white date wheel on this one as it would be the same colour as the hour markers causing confusion at a quick glance. This is a no buy for me though as it costs as much as the old King Samurai but doesn’t get either a sapphire crystal or ceramic bezel insert.

At the end of the day a Sapphire Crystal is still more scratch resistant. If $200 watches from other brands get sapphire crystals, surely a $600 one from Seiko can?
Good review. I like the watch, slightly subdued yet still bold. Those with smaller wrists have another option. The sharp indices remind me of the monster but again..subdued. Refined and defined.

It still amazes me how agile a behemoth sized brand like Seiko is in responding to the current trend of downsizing watches. We know numerous other major brands in dire need of downsizing their collection but still haven’t done so. Cough cough *m*g* 😊
I disagree, I've been a constant and prolific collector of Seiko divers for 16+ years now, have closely watched this companies offerings evolve not only with consumption of review content and discussion boards but with ownership somewhere in the triple digits. I purchased this one despite the objections made by many commenters. Everything about the watch is more refined than the previous iteration in size, style and finishing, the end product no longer feels like a clunky oversized chunk of metal on the wrist - size and aesthetics are all dialed in to create a product that feels like quality. Being that this is meant to represent Seikos lower end, I am looking forward to seeing what other changes they make across the board.
Ładny. Jak to seiko. Branzoleta do kitu ,brak szafiru i cena dwa razy wyzsza od orienta za napis seiko. Brak logo na koronce bardzo mnie odstrasza ,bo najtansze zegarki potrafią mieć. Szkoda że nie potrafią bardziej zadbać o takie drobnostki ,które wpływają na jakość i cechy za które są zoobowiązani w tym przedziale cenowym.
I would have liked this with a new band design and with a black dial/burgundy bezel. 42mm min. Going from 44 to 40 and no sapphire crystal is a deal breaker. Seiko has decided to go green on this one by saving materials and shipping cost while maintaining the same price…downgrade in my opinion.
I dont understand how this would be better than the older model. Old model despite beeing bigger wears very well, even on smaller wrists, mine included. Its basically the same watch in smaller size and date window placed in the worst possible spot. Old samurai models also have sapphire crystal and ceramic insert that new ones dont have. No point in getting this unless you have really skinny and tiny wrists.
Love the refinements. It's a watch that now looks more sure of itself.

I have plenty of older Seikos with hardlex crystal that look like new. When I’m going to be tough on a watch I’m using one of my Casios.
