    Fun fact:
Moon cakes were made way back in ancient china, where a village was being ruled by a evil leader. the villagers wanted to rebel, but if the leader found out they would be executed, so they made cakes with paper messages inside them to communicate. on the lunar moon, the villagers gave each other the cakes, and they successfully rebelled against the evil leader.

It's strange. Does Koreatown really sell moon cakes? I don't know about the Korean-Americans' culture, but people like me who are born and raised in Korea don't eat mooncakes on Chuseok(Korean harvest festival). We eat songpyeon(rice cakes steamed with pine tree needles) like KniFee said.

There’s a store there called Tous Les Jours that sells them. In singles and a box set.

@@animechic420 Tous Les Jours is Korean, but also popular among Chinese people as a general "Asian" bakery. No doubt they are catering to their Chinese customers by selling it. But if you want to buy the most authentic moon cake, I wouldn't buy it from there. But I have no doubt it tastes good anyway haha

KniFee there’s also an H Mart there. I did see mooncakes in the refrigerated section, but I didn’t pick them up.

I always loved eating Moon Cakes growing up, though I honestly never liked the egg yoke in the middle for some reason and would always give it to my parents. My favorite part of the treat was the paste.
I learned and read the myth/story from the book ‘Starry River of the Sky’ (or one of the books from the series, I don’t remember), though it would be a different iteration
(If you really like old Chinese myths, legends, and stories, I recommend reading the ‘Where the Mountain Meets the Moon’ series, it has a tone of stories, and an enjoyable book.)

It's more down to taste rather than looks. They can be an acquired taste for those who are from different cultures. I've celebrated this festival with Chinese friends, and while the mooncakes are gorgeous to look at, the taste is not quite to my liking.

I remember one night lots of the Chinese students came to the boarding house I lived in to watch Doctor Who. I turned up as well.
That was the first time i experienced moon cakes. I haven’t had them since, they exist only in my dreams. Thanks for the recipe, can’t wait to have them again!
