I am also considering combining. For me I started with traditional locs and had them for 6 weeks before taking them out for microlocs. I miss the traditional locs so much because it fits my personality and I love the low maintenance. I went in for microlocs because of volume and versatility but l realized those don’t matter. What matters is which will make more confident and comfortable.
Having smaller locs do not mean that over time they will thin out. I guess it’s just ones “personal” opinion.....I can manipulate and do all kind of styles with my sister locs and NEVER had a problem in 6yrs....I know people with traditional locs and over time, they had to cut them because it started getting heavy(and thinning out badly). I get on my co worker all the time because he literally have a bald spot in his head from his traditional locs lbvvs even with “palm rolling” that can be harsh on ur hair if that’s done to tight or to often(my cousin complains about her retwist aka palm roll being tight). With that being said, I guess it depends on the person preference....I wanted transition from traditional to sisterlocs....I cut them traditional right out of my head because like you I was concerned about the long term of my locs. oh and I do have a scalp condition as well & I wash my hair once a week. When you pointed out how some locs thinned out many be it’s because the “base” of the loc wasn’t strong enough? That’s what I was told.....it’s all about the “foundation” the will determine how your locs will be and flourish.....sorry if that was a lot lol 😂
I messed up some of my wording please forgive me😂😂😂 an abomination 😂😂
Wow, thank you so much for responding. That’s very interesting. Are you self maintaining or going to a professional? I can agree with you on personal preference. I would prefer a more fluffy loc than a tighter and harder locs. After combining mine I’m satisfied that they aren’t as tiny but they’re also aren’t too big. Also I forgot to mention was going too long without retightening can cause locs to fall out. I’ve seen it on several microlockers. Have you ever had a locs fall out?
Dorasgard3n ......my cousin do mine....I had to leave my consultant because I just didn’t like how she did my retightenings. I go every 8 weeks and she do a 4pt rotation. Yes I’ve had some come out and idk if it was from birth control, coloring or the base wasn’t strong enough. If I knew about interlocs, I would have went for a “in between” size myself...another reason I forgot to ass I didn’t want traditional is because palm rolling just don’t last long after the 1st two weeks it’s a rap. Lol your fluffy locs is going to look good because u know what you want and doing
Also check out Damien Walters he on here he the loc guru🥰
I had SLfor about 15 years, no problems with thinning or heavy hair (just felt like my loose natural hair, weight-wise). I agree, it depends on how good the foundation is. I had a great consultant. We combined several locs over time, but they always looked like SL, which is what I was going for. All healthy locs are beautiful!
This is the first video I’ve found that showed me the process without me having to interlock them. I will surely be trying this method. After so many times of hunting down my Loctitian just to get a retie, I’m over it and over the long hours of sitting, plus I can retwist my own hair. Your hair looks great.
I completely understand what you're going through. I just combined my micros as well. I love volume but I can be equally thick with larger locs. I am on my second set and i think larger is way safer. And you don't even have to worry about the micros marrying or worrying about grids.i ain't got the patience. But anyways thicker looks amazing on you ❤️
Congratulations on your second loc journey 💕Thanks babe and I couldn’t agree any less. I’m almost 2 yrs in and I just love this size much better. Thanks for watching 🥰
I love your transparency. It’s your head shuga, gotta do what you want for you
Thanks hun, and you're absolutely right 💕
I’m combining my micro locs too. It just feels right.
The feeling only gets better 😌
I been on my loc journey for 2 months and was about to start over than i thought well maybe i can combine them instead. Thanks for the video. This is confirmation for me.
I'm 2wks in and I combine my 79 down to 38 just 2-strand twisting. I have soft hair, so I started with 2-strand twists
You also have to remember that new growth will be thinner than the rest of the lock initially because those hairs still have to bud
I learned this along the way, thanks for the insight!
I've been experiencing the same thing with my small locs. I just combined them and am happier with them.
i literally just did the same thing for ALL the same reasons! they look great!
Heyyy twin 👋🏽...thanks and I already know yours look bomb too 😍
Someone who understands MY struggle. Thanks so much
You’re welcome best of luck to you and your loc journey 😌
@@Dorasgard3n Thanks Dora... but girl I just need to start over. I love my locs in the beginning
I love this idea!!. I was thinking the same thing. My microlocs were getting thinner at the base and i love my loca but i want to change it up a bit to make my hair stronger.. thnx fir sharing.. im definitely doing this.. combining my locs
From my research thinning may have to do with not maintaining and re-twisting or re-tying often enough. Every 6-8 weeks at least.
Combining mine tomorrow
i've combined my interlocs twice now and I love them. I love you because you said that one has 3 gracefully 😂😂 period. Some of mine are 3. I love chunky lumps and bumps too. I want freedom which is why I locked my hair. Still love microlocs though, but easier to maintain for me when combined
Yes ma'am wouldn't have it no other way. I bet your locs are gorgeous💕
Mine turned into Locs in their own…because I waited too long in between Microlocs retwists…sad cause I lost length…but still loving them and getting used to it
Shrinkage is expected. Do you like your combined Microlocs? Also, congratulations on your loc journey 🎉
I’m combining mine because I’m done with going to salons and I will be doing them myself. I have 556 locs and, for me, that just too many to do by myself.
Hey...I can honestly say the more locs you have, the more its time consuming. Also I love the size they turned out to be. How are your locs coming along?
I know im super late but i have been convinced to combine my locs. I'll be going from 220 to 110 and couldn't be happier. I have locs that keep marrying at the roots and i have to retie every 3 weeks to avoid it happening. Only difference is I will still be interlocking just maybe once every 2-3months now.
that's about the same number of locks I had and have now lol. Yes I would suggest interlocking less often. Ive noticed a different in the thickness of my locs.
@@Dorasgard3n lol. You were a big part of the inspiration behind me combining. I saw how much easier it was to do early on in the journey and took the plunge. I love them so much more now. And i totally agree on less interlocking. Im aiming for once every 2-3 months now.
They look good! Still have a full look with them combined. I agree in the texture feel of interlocked and twisting. I’ve done both. And switched back to twisting
Girl I can’t stand that rope effect interlocking gives. Thicker locs just look healthier to me personally. You should checkout Yannie The Locologist she’s big on the health of loc I love her!!
Girl I absolutely love her loc videos, very informative! She's actually the reason why I'm choosing to semi free form. She has the proof to back up what she's talking about. My scalp condition has subsided because of her! 💕
I have small locs and started combining a couple! Idk how sister locs girlies do it!
Those beautiful thick locs are tempting but I’ve always wanted small locs for versatility! I also have medium density hair. So with thicker locs, the more my scalp will show and I didn’t want that either that’s why I chose a more plentiful size. ALSO with smaller locs and smaller parts, I feel I can get to my scalp better when it comes to washing. I have scalp psoriasis as well!
Hey, I have micro locs & I’m considering combining. I’m a month away from a yr with my micros. I have low density hair & I think I loved the fantasy of micros and the perceived “versatility.” Tbh yes my locs are short, but I don’t think I’ve been able to do as much versatility wise as they’ve said bc my locs are fine. I also like the look of thicker locs, because I can do beading and jewelry much easier. I’m not tryna sew loc beads in. I wanna wear my hair in buns & braided styles. My concern is since I started out with braid micros, what technique would I need to do for successful traditional locs? Also how long will it take my locs to relock into traditional locs? I don’t want to feel like I’m starting over. Any advice is appreciated🤎
I love what you did to your locs, but IMO having thin locs doesn’t mean they will not survive and thin out or lead to breakage. I think if you have a good loc to part ratio and you have a healthy regime your locs will do fine. And that’s the same thing for thick locs, not everyone can have thick locs due the their hair density and if the base isn’t supporting that thick loc it will break. In the end it’s what the individual prefers and that’s all that matter, you seem very happy with your decision and I look forward to your new journey ❤️
Thank you so much and you're 100% right! I feel more comfortable with the size I have now. I also have several friends who have Microlocs that have lost 1 or several locs. I don't want to loose any. As a loose natural my hair was healthy and I want to maintain the healthiness of it as a locker. ❤️
I combined my microlocs and love it. I was concerned I would lose volume but that's not the case.
If anything, I’ve gained more volume because they’re a lot more frizzy. His long have you been Loc’d?
How did you combine them?
@@LifewithLava I combined them by two strand twisting the 2 locs together. I have a video on my channel showing it.
I love the final results
me too, thanks love 💕
Im loving all the changes during your hair journey. Very informative.
Hey is it possible to do a review plan ? How it’s going for you after you combined your locs . Do you regret it ? Anything new please please pretty
I should have never cut my locks..But your good at what you do I will definitely pass this video on...Great video ❤
I appreciate that, thank you so much ❤️
Love this! I have alopecia and my roots are thinning combining mine today
Very nice! I am considering to do the same. I thought I wanted smaller after changing again, but I will return to my medium to thick ones. Thanks for the video. It helps.
Thanks and I couldn’t be any happier. I think it suits me better....and I’m sure your locs will be gorgeous too. Congratulations on your loc journey 💗
I love it
I'm not enjoying my sisterloc journey at all right 😒 I'm 2 years loc & thinking about the change as well
Congratulations on your loc journey ❤️. Go for it if that’s what’s best.
im going the other way bc my locs started thinning and they're medium. im combing out then going for microlocks
Interesting. That’s why I express that everyone’s journey is different. Microlocs will be beautiful on you 😊
Your thicker locs look healthier! I love them 😍 my boyfriend went through something similar with combining some of his locs to prevent thinning
Thank you so much and I totally agree. I'm so at peace and living freely 💕
This is a great video. I always wondered ways to prevent thinning when you have locs and a scalp condition
Im having the same thoughts. Plus, I don't feel like the microlocs suit me. Im not sure how many to combine. I dont want them to be too thick later.
The good thing is you can always combine. How many locs would you say you have? I've combined most of my locs with two. There are a few that are three and a few that aren't combined at all. Play around with it until you're comfortable with the size. Lastly keep in mind that if your locs aren't completely matured, than its a great chance they'll swell a bit so they might be a little bigger than expected. I hope this helps ☺️
I am also having the same thoughts. I think I like the thicker locs than the thin ones
Love them.❤
Thanks beautiful 💕
You said you won't be palm rolling or interlocking? How do you plan on retightening your locs? I am thinking of locking my hair and I also prefer the softer look. Did you say you'll retight them with 2 strand twist? How? Sorry if I misunderstood!
Your thicker locs look like they're going to be awesome!! x Thank you for your transparency sis.
Thank you, I can't wait 💕
I have micro locs but I’m palmrolling them I’m only 5 months n tho ! I’m also leaving my ends loose , lovely video
Congratulations on your loc journey🎉. I bet they look great! If I knew I could palm roll Microlocs, I would have just stuck with palm rolling. I also love the loose ends look. It gives flavor 🔥
I retwist my microlocs to, and interlock a few locs on my edges once in a while
Ii wish the best for you. Stay true to yourself foremost Queen.
awweee thank you, & most definitely 💗🥰
Definitely looks good I like it
Thank you, I think so too!
the consistency is because of the 4 point pattern rotation. Your locs are still beautifull its not about the count its about the look and the health. My mom had freeform locs and hers were really really soft and my sister interlocks and her locs are hard.
I figured that. Thank you so much and I agree health over everything. I also prefer softer locs given that my hair is a softer texture. Thanks for watching 💖
What do you use to get your locs to set?
The hydrating mist that I sell oo my online shop. It very moisturizing yet lightweight which I love.

Great! Let me know how it goes if you decide to.
Fabulous video. So glad i found you. I just combined my locks as well. I feel the thicker ones are more suitable to me just like you said.
Heyyyyy twin 💕
Awesome video! You're very good at explaining.
Glad you think so! 💘
@@Dorasgard3n I would appreciate if you check out my soulful love song & subscribe to my channel. ua-cam.com/video/yf0-fQIIBiY/v-deo.html
I didn’t retwist loc from loc I just combined them with twisting is that ok or do I need to part them correctly and loc one by one before combining or do it matter ?
How are they now three years later
Am dealing with the exact same thing 😢
I'm thinking about it because mine are thinning
New subscriber. Your hair looks great 👍🏾
Honestly I have been thinking of doing the same thing
Go for it! Do what your heart is telling you. At the end of the day its your crown and you want to do what's best for that beautiful crown of yours 💕
💚😘
Tired look a lot like mine…
