Your hair looks great! I transitioned the opposite way- had traditional locs (cut them) and had my sisterlocks installed. It’s hair, have fun & enjoy wherever the journey leads you
I've been loc'd for almost 10 years (slightly bigger than sisterlocs), my hair is down to my booty, and I'm SO ready for something new. Your video is just what I needed to see. Your locs look great, and I love the thickness. Combining my locs will be my new shelter-in-place activity.
They look great. I started with sisterlocks, took the reti class then felt overwhelmed doing it myself. I love the look of sisterlocks but wanted something a bit larger but smaller than traditional sized locs. Found my sweet spot and love my current size. It’s your hair so do what makes you happy.
Hi Everyone! Thank you for all the compliments & questions! I have gotten quite a few questions, most identical. Instead of a copy/paste (because who wants that lol), I'm going to do a follow-up video and answer all the questions there. So keep them coming! I may not respond here but know that I've read them all and will post a video in a couple days❤️
@@peachypeach3286 thinking of transitioning from SL as well. How did you do it? Did you like the outcome? Did you two strand twist then crochet the ends or did you braid/plait then crochet the ends?
I am shocked 😮. I thought you would have made them slightly bigger, but you went from like 480 to 144. I am so proud of you for sticking with your gut 👏🏾. It truly only matters what you want and how you feel about having larger locs. The thing about having a UA-cam channel, followers feel they get to give an opinion about someone else’s life when they can’t and don’t make good choices for themselves. Don’t let go of your power or allow people to think they have power in the decision you make for your life. New adventures usually give us all the jitters or make us nervous. As long as you know in your heart this is what you want, we the followers of your channel will be ok. People come in your life and people leave your life. Everything will not please everyone. God bless you and your family. Stay safe out here. You are the best version of you at this point in time of your life continue to make you happy.
OKAY, I love your hair and I have thought many times that I wish my hair had traditional locks, but NO, I like the look of Sisterlocks as they get longer. I think you just have to do what you like for you. If you like it I love it. Continue to enjoy your lock journey..
Lavenia, I think your combined locs are beautiful!!! You have enough locs that even after being combined you still have an abundance of beautiful hair!
I’m having difficulty loving my sisterlocs...I’m almost 7 months in and I want to take them out. My hair is fine, so it still looks crazy. After seeing this video, I’m considering combining mine, now. Thanks...they look amazing.
We will be seeing a lot of combining SL these days, if I haven’t learned how to self reti, if I obsessed about being part of the 500 and up SL ladies I probably would be combining mine too! Shine on Lavenia, you look amazing either way 🤗
I actually really like it. I did like the fullness of the sisterlocks better, but this is still really pretty and I kind of want to combine mine now. I like my sisterlocks, but I don’t think I thought about how small they’d actually be. I wanted more than the average traditional locs, but not this small. Didn’t realize that until I was about a year in. Your size is perfect and was exactly what I was picturing. So thank you for this video!
You did such a great job👏. I'm sure your hair will settle with time, especially when you get new growth, it will look even fuller. Thanks for reviewing SHETOWEL, I really appreciate it. Glad you love using it. Due to the exchange rate, the price varies from time to time. I am staying tuned to see how it goes with your new look.
Your locs are beautiful either way. I combined my sisterlocks in July because the cost and maintenance were starting to overwhelm me. I used two strand twists to combine them. I loved my hair then but I love it even more now.
I did the same 7 years ago. I couldn't find anyone in Austin at the time to do my hair. My Jamaican friend did it for me. She didn't even ask.😅😅😅, said it was for the best. She was right. Couldn't be happier 8 years later.🙂
Omg.. I'm relocating back to Austin soon. I currently do my own retightenings but would like to find a consultant to go to from time to time... it seems like a lot of people who have sisterlocks eventually join them 😥
❤️, I actually thought about combining mine because the issues with my consultant. Then I started self-retightening. I know exactly how you feel because my hair is VERY dense like yours. It’s a lot of work, combining them will take less time now. If I had to do it all over again I would have gotten micro locs, or smaller traditional locs.
Both styles look great on you!! My locs are about that size (203 locs) and I love them! Not too big, but still small enough to style. Can't wait to see how your locs blossom upon this new journey.
So Lavenia.... it looks weird to me because I've been following you since my SL journey 2 years ago-- you and Deviny were my inspiration to take the leap. But I love your courage and transparency and I commend your bravery. Will you be going to Kady or Simone for reties? I too have thought about combining because I follow Yannie and I just love the thicker locs. But I was afraid of how my fine hair would tolerate the weight of the thicker locks that's why I went the SL route. If I had researched more I would've done micros. One thing I do love about larger locs is the longer time between reties... which allows for thicker roots and thicker hair. This every 4-6 weeks is ridiculous... I stretch out mine to 2 months or more. For now, I'm holding onto my SLs (although my self-reties are annoying as hell!!) If I do combine I would do 2 locs at a time (I love Feneti's microlocs). I cant wait to see your progress on this new journey. Who knows I may join you soon.
You are just too cute, and beautiful either way. 😍 I love the sisterlock look on you, but if you love it, I’m genuinely happy and supportive of you! 💃🏽 I’m here for it all...enjoy the ride, and thanks for taking us along with you! 😘🤗
They’re going to look great. They’re going to intertwine and plump up😍. You will love them, so happy for you. Just imagine not having to worry about paying to have them retightened!!
Hi Lavinia your locs are lovely. The most important thing is you're happy with the decision and the end result. I started with SLs 5 and a half years ago. If/when I get fed up I plan to combine to a bigger and bigger sizing, with the end result of freeforming ultimately. I liked the idea of giving myself the option to go thicker and thicker rather than just cut them off. That's the plan anyways xxx
I’m sad and happy about this. I loved following your sisterlock journey, but at the same time I have been considering combining my sister locks as well. They look good, I’m glad you were brave enough to go for it.
I’m so glad I came across your video. I’ve had my sisterlocks for 9.5yrs and I’ve been contemplating changing my locs or cutting them off completely for at least 3yrs. But this past Sunday, I had a moment of thought and just decided to combine my babies. It’s been a long road but with everything that’s going on (work and going to school-all virtually) I didn’t have the time to self retighten. I’ve been retightening myself since 2.5yrs in. I had a moment of sadness on Sunday but I’m actually excited for fuller locs.
The best sisterlock to traditional locs I’ve seen. Looks so neat and full. Great job! I wanted to combine as well but i have thick hair but lower density. So my sisterlocks (621) make my hair look really full. If i go bigger you’ll see more scalp. Love your new hair sis! Looks amazing.
I'm all for people doing what's best for them. Most of the people in the comments watch your videos for Sisterlocks so it would follow that many of them would not "approve" of this new direction. I wouldnt take the feedback in the comments to heart and defintely not when considering if you will keep the braids or decide to unravel them again. If its any consolation what your locs look like right now isnt quite what they'll be (in terms of volume and fullness) later on down the road. In a way you sort of have starter locs again that will grow and swell (a tad) in size. I expect that they will be fuller down the road. Im along for the ride either direction! ❤️
I love it! I have been thinking about doing this for a while now and was going to switch to traditional twisted at the roots locks. I just recently did my own retie and ended up with a few 2 headed dragons and wasn’t even mad lol! Great job! It looks beautiful!
They are gorgeous! And, they are just going to get more beautiful! You have inspired me to consider combining! Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
I originally wanted sister locs but discovered they were pricey so I went with the traditional locs for four years and found that the longer they get it can become a little weighty so now I'm nine months into my sister locs and I'm loving it. The picture here is with me with the traditional locs. I believe all locs are beautiful.
I love the look of Sisterlocks but this is also beautiful and unique. It’s a journey that you’re giving yourself permission to explore and that makes them even more fly! Do your thing Sister! I can’t wait to see the progress that this side of the journey holds! You can also use pretty accessories now if you want!☺️
They look great on you! I imagine the decision being tough with a UA-cam following but you have to do what is best for you. I have had traditional small locs for 3 years now and love them!
I love it and am going to do that. I saw when you got your sisterlocks which is what encouraged me to get them and I been feeling the way you were and now that I see what you have done. And I have been feeling the same way and looking at what you have done is just amazing. Thank you again for sharing.
Loving Feneti's towel👀👀👀-thanks for sharing. Ok I'M IN SHOCK! Been following you before I started my SL journey. I LOVE IT! Looking forward to staying tuned in for updates😊😊😊. OK, I commented before I seen you finishing your ends. OMG-you did it! Not gonna lie, I cringed a little because you ended your journey before my eyes😊. Again, so looking forward to updates😁. Ok, I need someone to try this w/two strand twist 😆.
I’ve been combining mine for a while now two locs I twist them because they too small didn’t want to rely on anyone to do my hair and reduce my self retie I love them but they’re not big enough I’m going to combine the again so I’ll have 4 locs in one now yes I love them a lot more now you did a great job two year into my journey
Can you explain what you meant by you started to feel overwhelmed? Asking because I have been considering getting sister locks but was concerned if it would be too much to maintain it for the long haul. Is that what you meant?
You have helped me a lot. I came on to see how to join my sisterlocks together. I love them but they are pricey and I live in the country and there aren’t many people that specializes in sisterlocks. The way you have done yours make it so easy! I’m going to start mine today!!! Thank you!!
I Love the way your hair looks and turned out! SL’s are pretty but way too much work and expense. Once they completely combine they are going to lol amazing!
Oh wow you did a great job, they're still gorgeous. I haven't been to Kadi in over a year now. Last summer/fall I combined the front but still didn't want to maintain all the locs in the back, so I combined those, too. I didn't like the look so I took them all out, and in October began actually picking out my SLs. It wasn't a quarter as hard as I imagined it would be. I've been very sporadic at it but am almost done. I considered being loose natural for a while, but I know as soon as I can, I'm getting traditional locs!
They are beautiful. You have to listen to your heart. We change and sometimes, our hair represents that. Enjoy your life and the changes that come. God bless.
I am a big fan of your sisterlocks.... but I totally understand and get it because I am a year in and my locks have not swollen as big as I was told it would so I was thinking of combing later after a few years after they fully lock. Your locks still are very full. Also kudos on the perfect parts and being able to still see your grid very neat.... Thanks for being brave and putting it all out there for us...
I'm late to this video. I am 18 months in and have been slowly combining my locs. I will definitely follow your lead to try and keep some sort of grid.
I love your hair either way. I love my sister locks, never thought about combining them. I am looking forward to your continued lock journey. You have to stay true to yourself and do what’s best for you and your hair.🥰🥰
I absolutely LOVE THEM!! They look beautiful, and honestly sisterlocks were not my first choice for locs. I always loved the look of micro or traditional locs. And for the past three or four months I've been seriously considering combining my locs to have a fuller look. You did exactly what I want to do and I'm extremely inspired!! Honestly nothing is holding me back right now. I just need to DO IT!! Great job!!
I’ve been following your channel for the last two years. You are very inspiring. I love your hair before and after. You help me keep my Locs happy! Great job♥️
I like it! The size seems just right and it looks good on you!! Your videos have always been informative, helpful,& transparent! Don't change! It's still so nice to know that there are options and hey we (ladies) will forever change our minds on something. There's nothing wrong with that 💓💓💓
Your introduction into the loc community story is mine as well. I'm a little over 2 years sisterlocked and have enjoyed it but we are on the same page. I had been thinking off and on about into combining into larger microlocs and the lock down and closing of salons are pretty much sealing the deal because I'm not the greatest in doing hair but will rise to the challenge if need be (to a certain point). Which brings me to your other comment about being "overwhelmed" . I believe I get where you are coming from. i personally don't want to have to self maintain SLs but believe less would be doable. Not to mention cheaper. When my loctician opens back up, I'm going to really start asking questions. Also I want to be able to have to do maintenance roughly every 2 months. Your hair is lovely and I like I'm sure many others are waiting for your Q & A video.
Girl, I LOVE them! I've been following your beautiful hair journey since almost the beginning and just been so inspired by you! I have interlocs that are about this size or a tad smaller (I'm currently at 18 months so maybe they'll look like yours when I'm 3 years in). I admire that you thought about it extensively and went for something that you love. These are beautiful - can't wait to see how they develop and how you rock them!
I like it for the simple fact that you chose to do it. I have sisterlocks and have had them combined, not purposely. Someone took it upon themselves to combine almost my whole head. I'm just now enjoying the turn out and that's been Two years ago since that happened. I been locked for 3 years now. So enjoy
I installed my braidlocs about 10yrs ago and they were small. I have cut them 2x. I combined my locs about a year ago because I was tired of sitting for 3+hrs during interlocking sessions and the cost of $75-100 every 6 weeks at the shop. Yes, I lost some length but like I said I've cut them twice and now they are longer than before I cut them lol. I didn't seal the ends like you did and some of them have unravelled which gives them a different look😘 I no longer interlock, I palm roll, (no clips or heat), every 3-4 month's with just water after washing, it takes me about an hour or so. I love the LOW low maintenance. I've always loved my locs but now it's just easier to maintain them myself.
I LOVE IT! I have interlocks that are the size of smaller traditional locs and it's so versatile. I was afraid of sisterlocks because when I was loose natural, my hair around the edges was always so finicky but I didnt want the look of thicker locs. I'm excited to see what this new journey brings you! I'm so in love with this "new" set!
Girl your locs are still beautiful! I started off with small traditional locs & I just recently combined my locs because I love thicker locs. I absolutely love my babies even more. So do whatever makes you happy ❤
I like your hair both ways. Both look beautiful on you. I recently got sisterlocks however at some point I will probably end up retightening myself and I may combine them eventually as well if it gets to be too much. Do what is best for you.
Your locs look great! I've been locd for 16 months now and totally felt the same. Overwhelmed. I've started combining mine too. Glad I'm not the only one, because I was feeling real guilty for a while.
You did a really good job keeping a grid! My one question is would you have a permanent braid pattern that would look different as your hair grows out?
I think you'll be happy. Traditional locs can be versatile and fun, but a little easier to maintain. I wanted to start with sister locs, but I was intimidated by the cost, and I hated the idea that should something happen in the world (or my finances) I wouldn't be able to manage them myself. I went with the traditional size and I LOVE them. I can't wait for them to grow out a little more so I can get an even bob cut. I already have bangs, but I'm so excited by the possibilities.
YOUR HAIR...... is beautiful 😍 always do what's best for you in your lifestyle. I have 140 locs my hair is dense I'm contemplating combining a few it takes me a long time to retwist mine. I want to condense at least to 120's. I too love Chloe and Haley's locs.
I am considering combining my locks. Like you I want my locks a little thicker. First I wanted to research if it could be done. Thanks. Now I must find the right person to combine my locks. Now I know how to express what I want and what the need to do.
I am certainly thinking of other options…I am going into my 3rd year with sis locs…due to my fine soft strands I continue to worry if sis locs are to small to be strong enough to endure the interlocking. I just don’t feel the freedom I had with my traditional locs (prior to this set of sis locs). After 2yrs of being sis loc’d i do not trust interlocking method for my hair. However, it’s only been 2 yrs with 1 yr of being fully loc’d…I am have decided to give it more time meanwhile just studying other options… Your locs are beautiful combined! I am new to your channel and this is my video . I have subscribed and looking forward to viewing more as well as following your loc journey. Peace Queen✌🏽
It looks cute! I had traditional locs for seven years and Sisterlocks for three, and I prefer traditional because I can maintain them myself if I have to.
I guess I was in the situation like you I started out with sisterslock, but right now I combined my lock because i love locks when they are thicker yours are beautiful.
I like your new look! Giving your previous video and having trouble with locs thinning and popping off I can see why you would combine. You locs are still small and as long as you are happy go for it.
I ❤️ it, it looks good! I been thinking bout combining mines. I ❤️ my sisterlocks (THIS MY 2nd Set of sisterlocks) but when it comes to the reti & I be overwhelmed b/c I do my own reti for now b/c my Loctician who established my locks is moving. I do not want to find another Loctician b/c finding one I trust is hard to do, esp when looking at their work & seeing their work isn’t consistent🤦🏾♀️🤷🏽♀️, idk, it’s just a lot. I’m a pharmacy technician & my schedule is 😜 on regular day, with this COVID-19 it’s beyond crazy. TBH I’m all about self care & with this 2nd sisterlock establishment, I promised myself I would be more in-tune with my locks & not let someone else have complete control! This time right here is a prime example b/c not knowing how to reti your locs whether traditional or sisterlocks can become an issue esp If you were already behind schedule on your reti, ya know! What’s the tool you was using to combine at the end? So will you maintain them or go to someone?
Just as I was combing my last section to get ready for my 12p appointment today I got a text saying that I actually missed my appointment bec it was at 10am. Not to mention the quarantine hiatus...which brings me here. I wanted to be dramatic and cut my locs off, but now I’m considering combining. Thank you!
Thank you for this video! You gave me the confidence to combine my sisterlocs. I had about 500 and reties would would take 5 hours or more. I was so nervous about combing my locs worrying about what my consultant would say, and the “community” but i couldn’t keep sitting in that chair for so long. So thank you!
I got loc extensions a year ago this month (april 27th) and 9 locs in the front were small (my hair was growing out and those locs were smaller than all of my locs and the extensions). They were locing fine but just the look was weird; like headphone cords compared to pencil size if that makes any sense. But I'm glad I combined them. I was worried in the long run how they would last.

Maybe Austin has someone to do them now. This was 2013 when I couldn't find anyone in the area that did Sisterlocs.

Yeah welcome to the SL family
Honestly I like the fullness of the sisterlocks better.
Kimberly White it truly is a journey but it’s beautiful.
You're beautiful with the combined locs, just as you were with sisterlocks! 🥰 I love the size of your locs & great job with keeping a neat grid!
They look great on you! I imagine the decision being tough with a UA-cam following but you have to do what is best for you. I have had traditional small locs for 3 years now and love them!
deafton1 I’ll be at 3 years in November and I’ve loved mine from day one!
Its beautiful...but I'm sad. LOL I loved your SLs. Also.... who the hell is selling a towel for $68???
I am, the price ranges according to the current exchange rate. It's worth every penny.
FENETI if you say so sis.

🤣🤣🤣🤣
Always live the locks
you desire!!!!!!! You can't go wrong
You’re not alone!!!! Especially during this quarantine. I want to maintain my hair myself. Your hair looks gorgeous btw.
Looks great. Please think about keeping them. Easy to manage. I have locs and I love them.
Can you explain what you meant by you started to feel overwhelmed? Asking because I have been considering getting sister locks but was concerned if it would be too much to maintain it for the long haul. Is that what you meant?
I’m so late. I just started binge watching your videos so I’m playing catch up. I LOVE them combined!!
Your hair is absolutely stunning! As long as you are happy, that’s what counts. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Wow, I've been thinking of combining my locks too!!. will do that this weekend!
I like them! They look good and you’ll be able to maintain them easier yourself. Do what is best for you.
I hadn't thought about it. This quarantine/stay at home no appt may send me over the edge too
I realize I love the way traditional locs look better than sisterlocs......your locs are gorgeous!!!!! Love...love ...love your hair!!🙌🏽💕
I like it. I self retied my SL for the first time. I think I messed up my grid but I don't care, I just call them microlocs now 😬
Congrats on your new journey! When you retighten, will you continue interlocking or switch to palm rolling?
I love it! Once they fully combine they will be even more beautiful 💗 I have traditional locs 👌🏾
Love your locs!! I combined my own SL's more than a year ago, and LOVE it, as I'm a DIY'er. All the best on your Journey (read: YOUR), and Be Well!!
Beautiful. Glad you ‘re enjoying them
I'm late to this video.
Great job!!
I like the look of traditional locs. You're beautiful.
I love them! With doing research wanting to start locs I definitely love your idea of combining and they came out great!!
Beautiful! I have small traditional Locs so I’m partial to the combined look lol!
Beautiful. However, how would you retight? Would you use a larger hook to retight or start rolling into traditional locks?
i am in the process of doing this now. your locs look great. That's the size i want them to be after i finish combining them.
I'm loving your locs! 🤗 You look Awesome with locs... PERIOD! 🤗
Gorgeous locs, and you really fast at combining the ends👏🏾👍🏾✌🏾
100!!! Love and will continue to follow, you have an awesome channel 🥰
Life yea, I was thinking she could have used the crochet needle to combine them 🤷🏽♀️... it looks great though
I love them!! You did a great job!! I'm combining some of mine soon and now I'm all the more motivated!!
However, it’s only been 2 yrs with 1 yr of being fully loc’d…I am have decided to give it more time meanwhile just studying other options…
Your locs are beautiful combined! I am new to your channel and this is my video . I have subscribed and looking forward to viewing more as well as following your loc journey.
Peace Queen✌🏽
When she said let’s just go ahead & commit, on the inside I was screaming NO!!! But then I’ve also been conflicted on combining before so I get it.
It looks cute! I had traditional locs for seven years and Sisterlocks for three, and I prefer traditional because I can maintain them myself if I have to.
I guess I was in the situation like you
I started out with sisterslock, but right now I combined my lock because i love locks when they are thicker yours are beautiful.
It looks great! You did an awesome job with parting and all.
You are so welcome!
I did it... thank you for your video's they are so helpful.. I am loving my combined sisterlocks
First off you did a fantastic job braiding them and they look absolutely fabulous 😍😍😍
I love it! They look just as great on you❤️
Great information at this time in our journey thank you. This way your loctician and you are thinking about the safety of others .
