That's a very good question. I like to put a bead in between, so there is a little space, so the petals don't squeeze too much. I feel that the petals look better if not too squeezed. This lei is 12 sections, and 12 pieces each color each section, so each color we need 10 yards. If you decide to make longer, may it's better to have 1 yard extra each color. I hope this helps. Thank you very much 🌼🌸😘
