Jesus... this isn't your typical low-budget hack short film that some waiters/actors/producers/directors/film students made. This is some serious work. Awesome job to everyone who worked on these projects!
I disagree. The acting across the board is crap. Becomes distracting how hard every character attacks the lines. This film not theatre. Mediocre writing too. Alter has become hollow.
Pickman Model was very amusing--I couldn't help but think of an unhinged Bob Ross, talking quietly about "happy little eldritch abominations." "Now this Shoggoth over here is lonely, so we'll give him a friend here. And we'll have him gruesomely eviscerating an Elder Thing!"
Every single of these short stories do a better job a conveying Cosmic Horror than most of Hollywood movies. Given the short amount of time they have to set up the atmosphere, the characters and the genesis of their respective in-movie Univers, it's incredible !

Cosmic horror has a lot of themes from other horrors as well such as body horror or psychological. So definitely people will be scared. The problem is it will sell less. Because people aren't as interested in it. That's why they don't really produce them. Annihilation is a perfect example. Great movie but did horribly. Just because there's less of an audience for this kinda stuff.

The Outsider was always a heartbreaker to me. The poor guy did nothing to deserve his fate. This version was good, but misses that essential point. Otherwise - good stuff! The last short was my fave...mon favourite? N'est-ce pas?
The sheer number of great Lovecraft references in Eldritch Code was great. RE:Animator killed me (in a laughter way not a murdered-and-then-zombified way)
The Door in the Wood was excellent. So excellent they made mainstream Season 1. RELIC is a darn motion picture! Brilliant writing, Brilliantly acted, special effects were spot on. I've watched this Horror master piece 5x Each time, I'm left with the same reaction. More!!! Part 2!!???!?!????

@chernozem7335 Here is what I got. Two entities were fighting for that mask, the protector had the key, which was like protection from the evil entity. The mask is some form of Cosmic power that summons outer gods. The entity using the mask is Nyalrthotep, as far as bad guys go, you'd be hard pressed to find worse in any universe that exists. No idea what the mask and key actually are, but that seems to be their function. Evilguy murdered and replaced the friend, attacked the guardian key holder to make him mostly incoherent, and probably influenced his death by extinguisher. (Does that make it a Fire AND Life extinguisher?) At the end, everyone was basically paralyzed, but the key that would protect them stopped just short of where it could be reached. Kind of a "cruel twist of fate" thing, or Maybe the dead guardian was only mostly dead and spitting the key out was all it could do. Unanswered questions/Don't know why: -It was frozen -It had the key -It couldn't talk -It looked like an Irish dude with British teeth, but was guarding this mask in Nepal -Why someone would have made the mask 900 years ago and given it that much power -Why the opposite to the Clay, hair, and inlaid silver Nepalise tribal mask (featuring the o.O emoji eyes and probably yak hair) would be a filigree, baroque era, liquor cabinet key and chain straight out of Louis XIII's Versaille palace. -What the green comet actually was -The Mask's purpose -How the Key would interact with the Mask -Why they didn't seem to want to listen to the only guy who seemed to have an idea of what was going on, based on the questions he asked. -Why they all acted like Anime characters watching their enemy go through an elaborate and time consuming power up ritual. (Maybe you can chalk it up to a sanity destroying fear aura that eldrich monsters all seem to have, but that's not very satisfying.) -Why the panicked guy was even there when they ignored all his questions and suggestions. (Crew based stories usually give each crew member a distinct expertise or ability. Scully uses rationality and hard evidence, Mulder uses an open mind and thinks outside of the box, for example) Disclaimer: I could be wrong about almost everything. It's way too vague and mysterious about too many things to be certain. Your brain is functioning properly. It's not you, its them.

I’ve seen ‘The Pickman Model’ before. It is a modern classic, no doubt. The mild sendup of “the Joy of painting“, blended with the whole concept from the story, is just too good. Makes me laugh. Nice to see ALTER found it and stuck it in our collection, because it’s more than worthy. Somehow manages to be the funniest and one of the best Lovecraft-inspired short films

Face it, kids. When you've seen one eldritch, gibbering horror from beyond space and time, you've seen 'em all. The take on "The Outsider" was unique and well done. 'Eldritch Code" was seriously creepy! Great update on the mythos! "Pickman" was delightful! Laughed my arse off! "Echos" truly captured the sense of inevitable doom the best of the Mythos tales invokes. So maybe i haven't seen 'em all!?
Sound From the Deep is the best cosmic horror movie I've ever seen, short or not. It is absolutely stunning visually, musically, and in every other way.
It's okay I thought the same thing when I first seen it and it was one of the first short horror stories I had ever seen on here, but I believe that there are many many more way better Lovecraftian cosmic horror than that. It was rather uneventful and didn't have much of a climax. Open your mind people.

The end result is "the Flash" a movie that is on the road to be the most expensive disaster for a movie company since the movie Heaven's Gate, a movie with actors like: Jeff Bridges,Kris Kristofferson, Christopher Walken, Willem Dafoe and John Hurt, and despite that bombed so bad that the whole movie studio went belly up.

Lovecraft society made a black and white silent movie one that were about an hour long, and it is awesome! It captured the dread perfectly, and i loved The void. Other writers had no problem writing longer stories in the Lovecraft world - much to his delight. It might have something to do with so many bad movies, but i feel it is not 100% correct. I suspect that it might be hard too finance a movie without a good fight scene with the "big bad" at the end of the movie, and as we all know, fighting "the old ones" always end badly for humans. I played the Lovecraftian Sherlock Holmes game, and it was awesome, for 8 hours gametime - so time might not always be a problem ?

ive only had like 3 and it really is odd to go from absolute dread to realizing you cant die and this is kinda fun. best one i remeber suddenly gained mario super jumping while running from zombies in the woods.
That’s one of the ways I figured out how to lucid dream. I had a nightmare and was terrified, then noticed the nature of the dream and suddenly everything came into focus. Instead of a nightmare it became a really neat haunted house experience. Woke up feeling really refreshed, funny enough.
I love Alter so much. Actors are great. Even the stories. Better than paid subscription. I did not found something good like this at Netflix or Prime. :)
For a moment I thought in the first episode that the creature was the star faced creature(s) from "At the Mountains of Madness" and the Plateau of Leng! Wait was that suppose to be the Mad Arab (Abdul Alhazred) in the Eldritch Code? Damn the thrill factor already tops 99% of most horror films released so far. The drop into instant thrill and mystique type horror!!! I love this kind of horror.
Wow, only the first story in and my skin is already curling and the hair on my neck standing up... now THIS is how lovecraftian horror is done right! Edit: the other stories were a bit hit & miss, but there are definitely some gems in here.

Short films or indie are better compared to those with a much budget movies.

Echoes in the ice was tops for me. Loved the setting and creepy atmosphere, but they were all entertaining. Nicely done.

Wow, only the first story in and my skin is already curling and the hair on my neck standing up... now THIS is how lovecraftian horror is done right! Edit: the other stories were a bit hit & miss, but there are definitely some gems in here.
