Tuariki kept shooting himself in the foot, by his constant repeating of grievances based on an oppressor oppressed narrative and ideology. His negative reference to Christianity was extremely offensive to both maori and non maori, who believe in one God rather than a plethora of spirits of the heavens, mountains, water etc. We have a right to hold a religious belief free from discrimination. This offensive comment goes to the root of his issue with the Treaty Principles Bill - he believes that somehow his understanding of maori and maori thinking are superior to everyone else's, and this confers on them the power and right to demand different rights under the law because they are, they claim, the indigenous people of the land. We must all be equal under the law, or you have two independent and unequal groups subject to two different rights and responsibilities in the one nation. Show me a nation where this works? There isn't one, but there are plenty that have thought to try and found themselves with a divided nation resulting in a state of war. Blaming this Bill or its proposer for suggesting equal rights for all under the same law is what has exacerbated the division already in the country due to looking for someone or something to blame for what is believed to be maori lack of equal outcomes, this is what led to the hikoi, NOT the Bill and its content. It is easier to blame someone else for my own shortcomings than it is to address and put them right myself.
Totally agree with you. There are many second/third/fourth generations of New Zealanders of Indian/Chinese/Other ancestry, Many of them have encountered the odd discriminations but they rarely complained. There will be always be a small number of people who discriminate others based on race or culture but this bill will help to reduce that number further.
Religion especially Christianity was a form of colonization..he was just proving a point that it's fake as steve said of non maori spirituality when Jesus was born to a mother with no sperm donor ..
Strangely those Maori who want to turn back time and see all colonisers and non Maori dissappear haven't considered that most of them would also dissappear as most have European heritage as well.😊
Just about every Maori I have heard has a different interpretation of the treaty, like they can read the minds of the 1835 Chiefs, it's all smokey mirrors and BS
I’m still trying to understand how anyone can approach another and say I’m being taken advantage of yet the accusers are being and has always been to supported .Their needs are not even close to be covered by their 18% base yet used what portion of the money collected. 91-92. Who is and has always used who.??
Why insult Christians. The anti Maori "medicine" act was to HELP SAVE LIVES. With "modern medicine and dental care. These were to increase life expectations and to uplift from "primitive " practices regarding health care
All Maori have European blood that runs in their veins. So how does this oppressor system work? Depends on genetic makeup? Percentage of Polynesian the more oppressed you are?? The thinking of people today can’t begin to comprehend the mindset of 1840! After the signing of the Treaty the NZ Wars began, so a lot of the Kumbaya went out the window when Rebel tribes started attacking and killing Pākehā & Māori settlements. Who were living together and trading for decades before the crown stepped in because of lawlessness and pressure to get some sort of stability in this wild South Pacific hell hole.
Michael, you shouldn't interrupt so much, we want to hear their views not yours. And you didn't let the discussion on the merits of the hikoi go on long enough, you shut it down. Stephen Franks was raising good points, with specifics to back them, but you shut it down. A very frustrating "interview" to listen to, so much could have been gained had you conducted it better, sorry to say

He is an absolute racist and has no interest in seeing both sides.

The Elite Maori dont want the grievance Gravy Train to go away

Weird way to look at it... but fair enough if that's your view.
Correct... a nation which continually looks backwards cannot move forward.
@@crystalbidois3342Hardly a weird way of looking at it, it’s a fact and it’s impossible to say differently.
Theyre all MAORIPEANS 🤣

Surely that's just tribal indoctrination style history but would dissolve under reasonable scrutiny.
Tell Mr Delaware, WE are not still in the 19th Century. It's not about me, me, me. He is about as flexible as a hydro dam.
The one thing that I have noticed with the maori and no-maori is when they're debating against the bill they say um a lot
Why insult Christians. The anti Maori "medicine" act was to HELP SAVE LIVES. With "modern medicine and dental care. These were to increase life expectations and to uplift from "primitive " practices regarding health care
Yes, if the Maoris want a separate health system then the patients can be treated in the traditional Maori way before the year 1840 under that system.
Always guarantee the pedigree shows through when they facts cant be disputed....if he was in the studio we would of had the pleasure of a haka
I wonder how many people had actually read the bill ?

Fairness my bum, how much you paying for modern convenience or are you going to pick mussels for tea forever.
Offensive and delusional Mr Tuariki, we are now in 2024 and your comment on Christianity is discriminatory and out of touch.
He certainly would have upset a lot of Maori with that statement for sure.😢
