CNBC review of NIO was pure misinformation and manipulation. They tested 4 year old, 1st gen, NIO EC6 model, which NIO doesn't sell anymore, and while there is a 2nd gen car. They tested 6 year old, 1st gen, battery Power Swap Station (only a few of 1st gen PSS exist) while currently, NIO is installing 4th gen PSS.
Very true, now look how many have sold, see if they have OTA upgrades, see if it can get AI FSD. See how many times a years needs servicing. Then see the efficiency compared to the Model Y, and while you are at it check on the safety score, and then give us a call and explain the whole story why the model Y is the top selling model in China and in the world. The truth is that they do not compete against Tesla because of very much different contents that Put Tesla at the very top.
For the CNBC piece to say vertical integration and local supply chains are BYDs advantage is ludicrous. Tesla has all these advantages and has been doing vertical integration much much longer. The real big edge to BYD is the Chinese government giving them a crap ton of money in support of their venture.

Funny, they mentioned hybrid use for grid lock traffic... I always thought BEV would wouldn't consume nearly as much energy sitting in traffic when compared to ICE. If the argument is running out of power then, the same can be said for gas, and if it's a routine the driver should plan for it - in short this is a wash between the two.
I don't think Tesla is losing to China by any real metric. The Y is still the best seller, it generates significantly more revenue than competitors, and the quality/tech is foundationally better than ANY Chinese EV. A vast majority of the Chinese EVs just buy parts and assemble them together, which is partly why their margins are so terrible. It's also why there are often problems with the products, when you just haphazardly stick stuff together it doesn't have a high rate of interoperability. They often do have lots of these 'gimmicks' added in, but rarely work out. I've ridden in many Chinese EVs, and you can tell the quality is just not there. A majority of taxis/rideshare in China use EVs, and it'll become apparent over the next few years when there is a little wear and tear that they aren't meant to be owned for more than a couple years.
Wait till next month when ONVO L60 coming out penetrating the mass market Y current selling. L60 is slight cheaper, capable of both battery charging and swapping, not to mention wider interior and better fuel efficiency!!
