From the Depths: Starter Resource Stuff

  • Just a quick vid on some developments on the start of my upcoming campaign. Now there are three schools of thought on resource harvesters: defend the hell out of them, have harvesters that can run and hide, or don't bother giving them defenses. Generally they are fortresses, and fortresses are sitting targets just begging to soak up some incendiary death.
The plan I am going with for my starter setup is a really disposable resource fortress which basically is only intended to gather the resources. It's not intended to carry them. So it immediately offloads its resources either to waiting warships (preferably) or to the Lumpus Deluxe, sitting at the bottom of the ocean, similarly undefended but much safer. The Lumpus is like a cargo vehicle that doesn't go anywhere, it just gets the resources off the harvester. Both are very cheap.
My faction logo and artwork looks a little funky, but I don't have Photoshop on this machine. Photoshop is sitting on my desktop, which is sitting in a box waiting for me to build it a proper computer center. I moved to the country back in December, and I am still running off a laptop. Which may present some problems when it comes to campaign, we'll see.
The faction is called Navee O Doom or NoD for short (no relation to Command and Conquer, though I have been playing that, too.)

I've done similar things. You can save more materials by building a pole of 4 meter wooden slope corners. You can just slap a low RPM supercharger engine on top of that with some storage containers and resource collectors. I was able to get a supercharged engine to do about 800 ppm. Cheap as hell too.
