Hammer vs atlas
Hello “How Ridiculous” The last video you did a lot of stuff with the giant 🔨 and you lied about the cans. It look liked 146 cans.
Already been playing 😁
Yo
8:33 Geologist here! Marble is actually limestone which went through some sort of metamorphosis (experienced high pressures and temperatures). Its build up mostly by calcite (CaCO3) and dolomite (CaMg[CO3]2) Crystals.
I said that too but only the first sentence lol
Unless they're wondering about cultured marble (i.e. manufactured countertops), in which case, it's crushed marble (or calcium carbonate), polymer resin and pigments. Of course, with them asking for a geologist, yeah, I'm guessing they mean the real deal
Literally pause and scrolled the comments for this thank you
@@EpicEvilMonster12 glad I wasn’t the only one
very smort
Man.. Remember when the old giant darts were like the ultimate destroyers and hardly anything could survive against those? Unbelievable how far this channel has come and can't wait to see where it's gonna go in the years ahead
I'm just waiting for how ridiculous in space!
They should put a classic giant dart pointing up at the hammer from the smashpad
Just a nuke
Man remember when they just dropped melons
Real ones remember when they dropped bowling balls on trampolines
This feels like Mythbusters, just without the science 😂
Jokes aside, I love these guys. Really fun!
To quote Jamie, "The only difference between screwing around and science, is writing it down." I don't see any pens, but I do see good fun.
@@picklepaddy but aren't videos a form of writing it down?
At impact on the glass cube, the cracks spider so fast it looks like a frame is missing.
You may get a more impressive result with a tempered glass cube or sphere.
Dude that was exactly my thought, like they forgot to render two frames or so XD So weird but also so cool!
Or a super high speed camera. I think someome did use one, and the shatter still happened very quickly
@@RennieAsh Gavin Free from The Slow Mo Guys did a video of breaking glass at 800,000 fps, that's probably the one you're thinking of.
Hammer suggestion:
Two large pieces of quartz on top of each other, done at night. This is because quartz emits light (triboluminescence) when its lattice is broken and would be superb to see on the slowie.
ooh
WOAH THERE BUT THATS A MIGHTY FINE BIG WORD THERE, use it responsibly
Ooh, yes, i had sparkrocks as a kid, basically two bits of rough quarts, and as it said on the packet: Bash them together to see them glow!
There's got to be other things that make light when compressed (that aren't just explosives), a whole viddy of night smashes could be made that way!
That would be awesome! They could even do an entire night episode with that, glowsticks, fireworks, or other things that would flash and make light.

So... are we hinting at a future HR video with Dan and Gav?
highly doubt it. Slow mo guys are more scientific with explonations and everything. this here is just jackass but with objects.
if you can not belive a glassblock shatters in a million pieces when you drop 3 tons on it, you should not be making this kind of videos.
Turns out, yes!

Oh man, the pressure waves inside the exercise ball, amazing. You can see how the energy oscillates faster and faster and finally the pressure of that wave ruptures the rubber.

Yeah, it's already great and then that purple can comes spiralling out and makes it sublime

You should start an art museum with all the random squashed objects!
What a quick start to the viddy! Definitely a new strategy! The 44 club will miss the opening shenanigans, but good on the boys for playing the algorithm!
They’re carrying on from the last video, I think the intros will be back to normal after this. It’s just the same day of filming
@@marcusrushton3862 good
@@marcusrushton3862 maybe true, but I wouldn't be surprised if they match a more Mr. Beast-style pace in future videos, since it's proven to be popular. As someone who watches for the boys and not the stunts, I hope you're right, but I understand if they change it up
Everyone taking notes from mr beast lol
Dude that's what I thought too.. I kinda fast forwarded and when it qent to the next object I was like.. was there no intro? Lo and behold.. there wasnt!
Those paint cans were definitely a 10/10! I can't imagine how that could be any cooler
I saw it and then I couldn't understand why you'd say that.... Until the slow motion
If there was glitter mixed into the paint
The slow motion is a 10/10, before was awful
Only if somehow, there were some type of panels surrounding the area, that would collect the paint spray. It would be necessary to figure out how far away to set them to get optimal mix, and to leave a space for the hammer handle. Advanced Jackson Pollock!!
I agree it was awesome!
I think I just understood exactly why these guys take cover while the hammer comes down. That shard of beer keg looked deadly.
3:17
Make this into a painting and it’s now a million dollar painting
Yo do u know what song that is
Hey, Guys! Got a suggestion for you! You should think about creating some sort of launch system (maybe like a seesaw, which I’m sure would need to either be very sturdy or easily replaceable!) with which you’d use the giant hammer. You could also compete with each other to predict distances of the various objects you’d launch. Thanks for all the entertainment, and Merry Christmas!
Brilliant......
Something like that *would* be cool, but I wonder how you'd effectively harness that hammer's momentum- that's a *HELL* of lot of instant force!
@markrober build/collab?
We can all agree that slo mo of the paint cans is one of the best, ever.
O agree
Soda cans were better imo; glass cube was best!
Kinda wish they put t shirts underneath them so we get some cool looking colored shirts or a canvas art xD
@@darknessofcoy you are right
To answer your question: marble is made of...marble. It's a type of rock lol.
But if you wanna get technical: Marble is a metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Marble is typically not foliated, although there are exceptions. In geology, the term marble refers to metamorphosed limestone, but its use in stonemasonry more broadly encompasses unmetamorphosed limestone.
Nice to put al that glass, plastic and many other things in nature👍🏻
Hats off to editor jack making this and every vid look amazing!!! Keep up the good work boys!!
The engineers you teamed up with to build this thing must bloody love you guys, awesome stuff!
Been a couple years since I've watched consistently but you guys have totally become absolute lads on the editing and the overall quality of the vids. I love that shit for the boys at HR, freakin 🐐🐐🐐🐐
OMG the slowy of the spray paint cans was awsome, love how you can see the individual colors right through till the end fantastic..
You guys should put canvases around the paint cans & make art with the Giant Hammer!
that would be EPIC! cheers!
was just getting on to suggest that
Bunch of t-shirts-instant merch
I bet people would buy them!!!!
I think a barrel full of oobleck might be interesting. Especially if you make it with a bunch of different colors.
Hey Guys! Love the video, just one request: could you smash a keg standing upright? It would be cool to see how it gets squished. Thanks so much for all the you do. It's so nice to be able to recommend a channel without hesitation. Great fun, nice people, all one can ask for!
Have a blessed Christmas (I know, a little late...) and a wonderful new year.
I'd like to see them have a dummy next to the hammer with the shock patches to see what kinda forces and damage would happen to a human body from the shrapnel and sheer explosive force. That'd be neat.
When you look back to when these guys started til now. It's amazing how much effort they put in. None of this tik tok sh1t. Genuine entertainment and leaves you wanting more. Long old week till next Friday to see what crazy stuff they have install for us. Keep it up guys. We love you over here 🏴
I agree, been watching for years and where they are now makes me smile 😃
Wow how ridiculous
This IS TikTok shit but on UA-cam.
Right?? Like in the first 20 seconds of the video something already exploded
Agreed. I eventually get tired of youtubers, but I’ve been following them for years and I’m always exited to see a new vid
I love the fact there's no mucking about, just straight into hammer annihilation.
For real! Mr Beast or like dude perfect will have 30 minutes of footage and only 60 seconds of anything worthwhile
Eh sometimes it is fun just watching them mess around, but I will say 3/4 video should at least be actual content, so this was amazing lol.
I love it! These guys get it
You should try multiple Prince Ruperts drop`s - would be interesting to see who wins.
360 canvases to capture spray paint explosion would have been rad. Explosive Art.
That glass cube was incredible to watch! Just shattered into dust. lol
Still curious how a glass sphere would handle the hammer though. While it may do the same as the cube, the shape could also have a huge impact on its strength. The edges of the cube create weak spots that may be what allowed the force of the impact to shatter it the way it did. The sphere, without those edges, may react more like a Prince Rupert's drop, which can withstand a hammer blow or even a bullet impact without shattering. Either way, it should be a lot of fun to watch.
completely agree!
I was slightly amused when the 2 that said they thought it would crack into 3 pieces, because they clearly don't understand even the basic properties of glass. Glass doesn't deform or break unevenly. It holds until the internal stresses are overcome then it catastrophically fails.
The glass sphere gets my support as well. Lets see if the Coney Joney would still happen.
The linex melon was just so foul 😝
Glass sphere would have similar results. The reason why is because it's being sandwiched between to points and doesn't have any way to reverberate the shock or escape except for out the sides.
I'd love to see a static timelapse of a shoot like this. I don't think I fully appreciate a) the mess you make and b) the amount of tidying up you do. Loving the hammer. I agree with Jack, pretty close to a 10 on the spray paint [chef's kiss].
Yeh this shoot took about 8 hours so there’s a bit of work going on between the smashes haha

That footage of the exercise ball is actually insane, you can see the pressure wave from the contact with the hammer bouncing back and forth on the ball four times, seemingly moving faster with each pass. Super cool!

An arm chair with a mannequin sitting in it.
A bathtub full of grapes (lets make wine!).
A bucket of golf balls.
A pile of old printers, copiers, and computers (they deserve what they get).
A filing cabinet (how flat will it be?).
A motor cycle or scooter.
Plastic water jugs full of water.
A lawn mower.
And 44 eggs, "lets give it the raw egg test" as they say on those TV add)

If you guys revisit this video idea, you have to do this with a glass sphere. The shape is significantly stronger than a glass cube.
You need slow mo guys on a video like this. Their glass videos are nuts. Glass shatters absurdly fast

The toilet wasn’t in position yet. The only time we go into the hit zone is when the hammer is at the top, the safety pin is in and we have a spotter watching at all times ☺️ safety first!!

Marble is metamorphosed limestone.
Basically, the shells of tiny vertebrates that have died and littered the bottom of a shallow, warm sea. Those shells than get covered up, over millions of years, by sediments. Eventually they compress into limestone by the sediments, and other geologic forces (read: Tectonic), The limestone is then further compressed and heated by geologic forces (Tectonic), and turned onto marble. This whole process can take hundreds of millions of years.
This video was smashing
Loves jacks appearances, Ricky is a close second. We need a safe test
This is like something a Bond villain would use to kill one of their incompetent underlings.
I’m a British geologist, marble is generally formed from metamorphosis of calcium carbonate rich rocks, such as limestones.
Hammer vs atlasstone would be very interesting and awesome! 🔨
You guys are so amazing!
I appreciate that this video actually started at the beginning of the video. Straight into the action, no boring intro
Yea I started fast forwarding right away and realized I missed stuff.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH
I love the new stuff you guys try, but dropping things off the tower will always be your bread and butter imo
5:44 love the callback to N. S Gaunso
Marble is a metamorphic rock. It started as limestone, and then heat and pressure transformed it. Limestone is primarily calcium carbonate, which came from the shells of sea creatures.
When another vid like this (with things likely to shrapnel out a lot), you should see if you can get some ballistics gel dummies (probably attached to some plywood of some kind to keep propped up) so you can show just how bad of an idea it would be to stand outside the bunker :D
And for the glass sphere vs. cube, I'm fairly certain it comes down to each point on the surface of the sphere having an equal distance across for the whole of the object, while the cube has more "fracturable" locations (corners, edges).
That being said, a glass sphere would also get obliterated by the hammer in possibly a more dangerous fashion than the cube (perfect for that ballistics-gel dummy idea :D)
yes this!
Editor jack throwing in that explosion when he slapped the glass cube, genius 😂😵
You should play me because in "44" seconds I will be beating you and you will see "how good" I am, with "how ridiculous" My excellent strategy is.😉
I loved the spray paint cans slowy
The thing about glass is that it has a very high compressive strength, meaning that you have to press down on it very hard to shatter it, but very low shear strength, meaning you can snap a pane of glass in half quite easily.
This is what created the coney-joneys; the impact point was able to support the weight of everything that pushed down on it (everything within a certain angle above it). But everything that was outside that cone was not supported, had to be pulled up by the glass above it which is much weaker and thus snapped off.
With the cube you have a lot of corners that can snap off (especially because the hammer hits the cube at a very slight angle) which allows the hammer to weaken the cube until it eventually breaks catastrophically along millions upon millions of internal fractures.
That being said, I doubt a sphere would hold up much better. 2 tons dropping 7 meters still contains a lot more energy than 100 kilos dropping 45 meters.
This is what I thought. The structural integrity of a cube is way less than that of a sphere. Well put sir!
Huh, you learn something new every day! Thank you for bestowing this knowledge upon me, good sir! (Or madam)
11:51 I love that slow mo of the hammer hitting the glass cube and seeing the entire thing shatter in a millisecond
It shatters way faster than a millisecond
@@thebeanmeister6046 both of you guys are wrong because I think he said it shattered in .201 milliseconds and if you round it, it is about 2 milliseconds
@@cesarpena8609 wait, how would .201 round to 2? Wouldn't it round to .2?

Nothing like a good game of "Poo Hammer" to get your adrenaline going! 🤣
liberty safes did a demonstration dropping a large weight on one of their safes and another company's safe. seems like a good job for the hammer if they would donate one.
Try placing a leaf blower so it's pushing air past the front of one of the cameras, but a short distance away to see how much debris it can deflect away from the lens.
If it works that would be great for the messy smashes where liquids get sprayed everywhere.
Many years ago when watching a Formula 1 race taking place in the rain, I spotted how they kept the tv camera lenses on the cars from getting raindrops on & spoiling things for the viewers - there was a fast spinning clear plastic disc in front of the lens, any water landing on it would be immediately spun off, so the camera could still see perfectly well.
Another idea to keep in mind?
Someone needs to make a high pressure blob, that has enough room in it so that when the hammer is fully down and on it the air is trapped in one side and it doesn’t burst. And then launch things!
I second this.
Mark Rober could probably make something like that 😅
Can we just appreciate how good their slo mo is
The power in that hammer is impressive. Annihilated everything
This is getting a bit….
Ridiculous
I feel this has been done many, many times before. 😂
It never gets old though
Just for that your hat should be the next thing the giant hammer gets dropped on.
Of course it is! But the real question is, just...how ridiculous?
You guys might want to bring Richard back and hit some safes with the hammer
When objects start getting too damn heavy to lug 45m up a tower, you apparently build a giant Hammer to smoosh them with instead.
Wherever HR go to smash things, black flies are having the time of their lives. For multiple generations.
That spray paint smash is probably the best phantom cam footage I've seen. Awesome lads
You guys need to add the “well that’s not in one piece anymore” clip into every video from now on. It such a classic clip and will always be hilarious
When I saw the runtime I thought I was going to have to wait 10 minutes to get to the good part of the video
I wasn’t expecting them to actually get right to it
that’s an instant subscribe right there
The stack of chairs was so satisfying. Reminded me of playing a lego game and all the lego money flooding out of it.
Suggestion...I'm sure you've heard of the hydraulic press channel and if so you have most likely seen paper being crushed. It'd be interesting to see if this hammer can do the same thing
It's crazy the effort that these guys put into their content, especially compared to other youtubers
They go to a lot of behind the scenes work so they can go out and live out my adolescent destructive desires!
Yeah after every smash they have to pick up all the trash around
Considering on how it handles liquids I think it should be called the atom smasher.
seems like plexiglass shields in front of the cameras would be a worthwhile investment
Scuba tank & Propane cylinder please!
I would love to see a collab with Gavin/Dan, since HR knows Slo Mo Guys exists it would be just incredible
Propane cylinder is probably a bit dangerous. Would be amazing though.
You should measure the speed for the hammer drop without hitting anything and compare it to the speed when it hits an object, just to see how much it slows down or how much resistance each item makes.
You guys need to do art prints of some of the slow motion shots. Like the spray paint on this one. And when you were throwing things through glass and did the rainbow glass. So visually satisfying and I'd totally put that on my wall.
“Whhooooaaa hoooooo yehhhhhhh… omg oh shiiii whoooaaaa whhha hahahahaha awwwwwhhhh ” - how ridiculous team.
