Just bought my first CBG form a gentleman I met at a local county fair. He built one for me and I picked it up this past weekend, learning how to play it now, and this video will help a lot with that. Thank you for the video, new subscriber as of today (June 14, 2023), now I'm going to see what else you have on your channel...

Hmm ... no better time than today to learn to play my cigar box guitar. I bought it three years ago, along with an amp, but never played with it. Thank-you for the video and your relaxed approch to learning.
I made my own CBG last week with tutorials but my English is not too good, in addition, I don't play any instrument so I'm learning how to play some stuff in CBG. I really appreciate your videos

Glad I finally got to watch this video I definitely have to try it on mine It’s not acoustic electric but I can probably use a stick on pickup to give that reverb and crunch a try !! Have to check out the rest of you Cbg Vids!!
Slide guitar is really fun. It just takes a little bit of practice to get the technique figured out. Once you get the feel for it though... super fun. Good luck and have fun.
Very helpful, have built a fret less cbg for my first, and have been looking for tips on how to make it sound good when I’m messing around with it. So will put your tips to the test and try to at least impress my family who are the worlds greatest critics.😂 so cheers 🍺. Regards Big G. UK.
Thank you so much for another great video today full of inspiration and of course some great music. Hugs and kisses from grandma Sandy and Debbie hope you have an awesome new year. And I hope we get to be great friends in 2022

Nice video. Are you using a Rocky Mountain slide by any chance? If so, they’re fantastic! I have several and, like others, think the blue ones have better sustain and sound beefier. With practice and experimenting, you can master the whole neck and you will sound great!
Thanks for checking out the videos, I hope it was helpful. I actually using one of the short slides from Evolution Stoneware. You can buy them from www.cbgitty.com/brands/Evolution-Stoneware.html
For a beginner, fretless, without even fretlines marked on, makes it hard to nail the notes spot on. A bit of vibrato masks the mistakes and allows you to home in on the true note before anyone notices. And BTW the third fret is not the "Blue Note". it's the minor third. The Blue Note is the #4th, ie the sixth fret. Just use it in passing to the notes either side, don't linger on it.
Thanks for checking out the video. When playing blues in a minor key, indeed the flat5 is considered the blue note, but when playing in a major key, it's the flat3 (that dissonant note between the 2nd and 3rd). Just like the flat5 in minor blues, the flat3 should not be played as a riff but just in passing). Regardless of the theory behind the blues, I'm not complying to that and instead creating something even simpler - so please don't confuse this tutorial with a blues tutorial. I have another tutorial that covers the blues/rock shuffle if you're interested in that.
Kale, I always enjoy your content. I've built multiple fretted CBGs (that I can't play LOL). I've toyed with the idea of building a fretless but you have inspired me to do it. I'm pretty sure that I can emulate what you did here 👍. Bookmarked/saved!
@@musicalmiscellany Kale, I'm happy to say I finally got it built. I could use an analysis of the strumming/muting pattern. I have no rhythm so I need to learn it by rote first.
@@walterhaapapuro4796 Thank for giving it a go. I hope you like playing fretless. The idea of this formula is that you shouldn't have to follow a prescriptive strumming pattern to make it sound good. Any combination of strums, chugs, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th fret should work. However, if you want to try something similar to what I did at the beginning, try this... strum-chug-chug-strum-strum-chug (then throw in your 2nd and 3rd fret for fill)... strum-chug-chug-strum-strum-chug (then fill)... repeat.
I don't remember the exact gauge but I know it was the A, D, and G strings from an acoustic guitar pack. I hope that helps. Thanks for finding the video.
That's a difficult question to answer because there's no definitive cigar box guitar tuning. I have several different CBGs (both 3 and 4 string) and tune them all differently. Theoretically, you can tune any string instrument any way you'd like (provided the strings/neck can support that tension of course). This tutorial is for a 3-string (I-V-I) tuning so I would imagine you could tune a uke like that provided you removed one of the strings. Ironically, I have a different video about tuning a 4-string CBG to ukulele-style tuning.
Thanks for watching the video. You may want to check out this playlist. ua-cam.com/play/PLwIixlr7C6KXPJNtd6WUculsYimIwVOJ7.html It has a bunch of CBG tutorials. Everything from songs to tunings. Thanks again.
Technically it doesn't need to be fretless it needs to be played with a slide. Generally a new player is going to have a lot more success playing slide on a fretless instrument (one setup for slide playing) than a fretted instrument (one setup for fretting). Thanks for checking out the vid.
They are from a phosphor bronze acoustic guitar set (I can't remember which brand). The gauges are .044, .032, & .022. I can't quite recall if it was the E, A, and D or the A, D, and G, but I know it was 3 consecutive strings within the pack. I'm pretty sure it was the A, D, and G but don't quote me on that. Thanks for watching.
Get a 3-string set of Southbound String Co. Medium Blue Blaster, low open G - GDG in .044, .034 and .026 from CB Gitty. You can tune GDG or better yet, EBE. You will never look back.
If you're a visual learner, that may help to go right to the playing example. However, if you're watching a lesson video and skipping the explanation, that kinda defeats the purpose of the lesson. Still... you do you. Everyone learns differently. Hopefully the vid was helpful.
