I found some old comment on forums that hinted that this is a thing too. Maybe it was removed or it's broken. I wonder if they ever fix some of the older issues if I'll need to do a video on debunking myths created by this video 😃
@Bashrobe It's still very much a working mechanic. It's just very hard to actually notice because its pretty minimal. The only reason I even did, was because I was on the ass end of my 500 day playthrough, and sat next to beginning tree line by trapper's cabin for the 3 day keep firing going achievement. Turns out, them trees will indeed drop branches after a blizzard. Birch trees will drop bark after a few blizzards, but it has to be a grove of them, ie like in bleak outlet, or starting in timberwolf mountain etc.
myth 11 timberwolf skins are different, I heard that once :D, myth 12 the gray mother goes to the shooting range every Sunday at school in milton. Good video
Look at that field of dead Fluffys. All of us who remember freezing in terror at the sound of her howl echoing through the dam feel avenged. (She never actually got me, but that's because I turned and fled, never to return. That was Fluffy's dam, she could keep it.)
I've never encountered fluffy in the damn but I did encounter a wolf in Last Resort Cannery Workshop, during an aurora. So that lil doggie almost ended a 100 day run.
@Doop_A_Derp That's Fluffy. Back in ye olden times, we're talking the days when Mystery Lake was the only map, the dam contained a lot less stuff and a lot more wolf, Fluffy in her original home. When they started adding more objects, they ran into collision problems with Fluffy and wound up removing her; when they added in Bleak Inlet they confirmed Fluffy as the wolf in the cannery as a nod to the old days.
Interesting that a bear making certain crow sounds play was debated, they always seemed pretty obvious to me and they’re very distinct from the sounds the crows in this game normally make.
yes. My only guess is - people who play without headphones or with really poor ones might be unsure about this. (Obviously if you are hard of hearing it's hard to confirm but that's like asking my color blind friend advice about clothes)
They should bring back the running-temp feature and make it so the extra temp doesn't decay while you're regenerating stamina. It makes immersive sense, you stop running to catch your breath, but your heart would keep racing until you completely stopped exercising.
There was an episode of naked and afraid where the producers put them in Canada (I have a theory that modern survival shows are just trying to kill people..naked in Canada wtf) anyway at one point this guys partner was freezing and about to tap, he made her go outside and do jumping jacks. She warmed up immediately and her morale and attitude went from doom to joy like a switch. Exercise to warm up in the cold is very real, the devs definitely need to bring it back lol
@@thatguy2535 That's because it opens up your veins and arteries, when the weather gets cold out and you're not moving at all, your veins and arteries constrict which limits blood flow through them and subsequently blood flow to the heart. Getting that pumping makes it so more blood circulates through your body warming you up.
Great video and really well explained, but I am a bit confused about what you call the weather crows. Your facts about them are right and very thorough, but I believe you may be mixing up two different myths and it's a bit confusing, so just wanted to clear it up a bit. The old myth about crows is better referred to as "storm crows". People believed that seeing crows would indicate a change in weather, typically a storm or blizzard. As I extensively tested, this was NOT true, and developers confirmed it via direct communication. However, as I outlined in my Crow video, crows can only spawn during certain conditions. Therefore, while they are only there for aesthetic purposes, they can indicate that the weather already HAS changed. Sometimes the game needs a moment to "catch up", e.g. it is actually sunny while snow is still falling. In those circumstance, when you see crows, it means the weather has already changed, and the game is just catching up with the visual mechanics. Your visual example at 6:10 is an excellent illustration of this - but again, this is AFTER the weather has changed, not BEFORE (which was the myth). The fact that they indicate weather change was never disputed, and something I have spoken about many times, so I was not aware that this was a myth. The old myth was instead that the crows indicated a COMING weather change, which they don't :) So the myth isn't true per se, it's just that the crows operate differently than people thought and is a post-hoc weather change signal, not an a priori one. I wanted to just clarify this, since it's a bit confusing to say that the "weather crow" myth is true, when it isn't. But that said, there is nothing wrong with calling them "weather crows" as signals of the weather having already changed. To make it simple, we could always say that "storm crows" are not true, but "weather crows" are true. The former being about coming weather changes (not true), and the latter referring the weather having changed (true). Again, great video, as always. Just wanted to clarify this.
Hey Zak, I can only agree. There's many variations of this myth (and other myths in the video as well), so I'm not necessarily referring to any particular explanation supporting/debunking weather crows. I tried addressing "crows are tied to weather" in general as myth no. 4. I explain in the video that the only reason this even works is that crows are not allowed to spawn during snowy weather, and wait until the weather changes. So it's very likely this isn't even intended, as the devs confirmed, and just a coincidence that one can quite consistently spot crows and observe snowfall stopping shortly after. And from technical perspective, the crows spawn AFTER the weather changes. It's just not always obvious ingame, as weather takes a minute or so to fully transition. It's particularly hard to spot with change from snow to fog. So as you say, storm/blizzard variation of weather crows are not true. Weather crows are only a thing when weather changes from light snow / heavy snow / blizzard to anything else (what I called weather crows in the video) during the day, and from non-aurora to aurora at night (which I called aurora crows), though the reason this happens is the same. And frankly, I'm surprised to find this out after so long. I was firmly in the "that's such a classic video game rumor" camp for years, we even started joking about them on stream, and suddenly we find this out 😃
Nice to know about the aurora annex to Cinder Hills mine. I once spent 20+ days stuck in there and was getting close to running out of food before I got out. That was before the DLC release I think and the next time, after the DLC release, I was surprised that the aurora occurred the next night. Given my previous experience you could understand why. Didn't know it had been fixed. Nice work.
This was extremely interesting to watch and very informative. thank you. Wish you could make this a series. Useful shortcuts, tips, tricks, secret loot locations and other useful stuff. Godspeed Bashrobe!

thank you Bashrobe. Nice video as always. There were two of these that was news to me. First, "running can make you feel warmer" is completely new to me. I never even heard of that as a rumor. It's very interesting mechanic. The second one was about the Aurora mine. I actually have never been there, because I thought it doesn't worth the risk. I think it is the only place in the entire game that I have not explored yet. I will check that place out soon. :)
the fluffy glitch was just fixed! 'Fixed an issue where “Fluffy” could incorrectly spawn in the Bleak Inlet Workshop when the player revisits this location'

7:18 I have 700 hours in this game, I know the Pleasant Valley map practically by heart, but I just realized that you can loot these lockers in the plane...
Hey can you study world decay? Nobody knows exactly how it works. Most people say it starts on day 1 but how is it that people still find good condition items on day 1002?
The weather crows one is hilarious, great research here Bash! If you do another one of these would love you to cover how people say marine flares are good for dealing with timberwolves. In my experience it's not really the case but everyone seems to say they are.
I already have a timberwolves video. I agree marine flares are not that great, red flare to pass through and ignore them, campfire + torches, or just a weapon seem much more reliable as the blue ones just burn out too fast.
It's partially true in the sense that crows can fly overhead during specific times of day, but only during clear weather. So if the crows have some sort of random check or schedule and then the weather clears, it makes sense they'd spawn in
Thank you for the info about the overhead plane lockers, those things drove me crazy, but now I guess I won't have to bother checking them anymore. Hopefully one day we'll get a solid answer from Hinterland as to whether it's a bug or an intended. Also - weather crows being pseudo-real is crazy to me, I'll have to keep that in mind from now on. (Exceptional thumbnail, btw. I can't wait for Wintermute Episode 5 to make aliens real.)
Just before watching this video, I started a new Interloper character and went immediately to the crash site. I checked every overhead bin, observing that I couldn't remember ever finding anything in them.
Nice to hear that weather crows are kind of true. I didn't want to accept that they are totally random. I'll probably still check all the overhead lockers and leave some meat on wolves unless it's a perfect round number.

Oh damn! I've played this game 100+ hrs and I don't think I've ever come across an indoor wolf yet. I am currently doing a playthrough and started up in HRV, spent a LOT of time in that ice cave starting off and never ran into Sketchy... thank god hahaha Good video btw!
I've completed several trades, and the guaranteed aurora doesn't always happen in my experience. I've had it where I had to wait 10 nights just to get one after completing a trade, although this could be a bug.
Could be, this is still a very new mechanic. I maxed out traders trust today and always got an aurora though. Might be something to do with the time of the day the trade is completed too. I usually waited until night and it always triggered instantly.
Two tips u may be able to include in your videos, animals deagro on u if u go over weak ice, and your are faster than wolfs if they charge at u hope this helps😁
No1 works like that for a limitation of the game. Other games would wait until you turn your back and/or walk away some distance to respawn the sticks and branches But in tLD it would be weird if a branch just spawns right in front of you, so the game waits until you move into an interior You can test that by collecting all the wood around, go inside, then go outside when the weather is clean and when the weather is windy After strong wind and/or blizzards the woord spawn is way higher than on a clean weather "Wheather" crows signalize wheather is gonna change soon and/or a change on daytime (at sunsetting and sunrising) If you wake up too early and go walk outside you can notice these crows will fly by close to your character saying lines as "looks like a new day is dawning", which can be interpreted as a timestamp for sunrising I remember reading both of these "myths" in the loading screen game tips
I had no idea you could hear a bear from some crows! interesting! 1000+ hours in and I'm still learning new things :) looks like they just patched the wolf respawning in the workshop in BI but we'll see how that goes haha, one of these interior wolves got me good in a recent stint on interloper where I spawned in DP and had forgotten that it was there...got my vengeance yesterday but it surprisingly tough and aggressive!
The bear crows come to us right from the alpha version. F.e. if u play version 365 (vigilanttrespass) the bears will have a loud sound of crows, so you dont even hear growl or roar of the bear. It looks like a bag though.
It has been 3 to 4 years since I have played the game much, so what follows may or may not still be true. More than once I have trapped rabbits with snares as a main food source. Four traps would average probably a little under 3 rabbits a day. Once you have plenty of guts and hides I would just take the meat and leave the carcasses in a pile. I don't remember exactly but once you got to something like 48 carcasses in the pile the traps would completely stop producing. Zero rabbits for days, until you completely harvested a few of them, then they would show up in the traps again right away. I could harvest some carcasses, go in Trappers, walk back out and there could be instant rabbits. I have no idea if this is still a thing. If unharvested bunnies despawn quicker now this wouldn't be an issue. But there used to be, and still may be a hard limit on the number of ghost bunnies (the ones that get caught in traps) that could be in the world at one time.
Might still be a thing, snaring works very differently as it's not tied to actual rabbit respawn and snares can produce snared rabbits every 12 hours pretty much out of thin air. Either way, if you really want to get rid of carcasses faster, it's better to drop them inside as they decay faster. Usually gone in 1-2 days. But with trader and safehouse customization, everything from rabbits is actually quite nice to harvest (either to trade or to cure meat) so it might be worth taking the meat anyway.
Have you covered the torch myth yet? I had a redditor tell me the other day that they believed, stil, that the direction you are facing a fire effects the torch duration. Which is obviously silly as its completely random.
I might have another myth or feature running when windy gives more chance to get frost bite. I noticed on misery if I walk everywhere frost bite doesn’t kick in at all for first day I think.
Frostbite is related to temperatures and it never develops below -20C (feels like, so windchill included). First hour on Misery is same temps as Pilgrim, but by day 3 it's comparable to late game Interloper. I cover more details in the affliction video. So it's normal to not get much frostbite on day 1, but it depends on if you stay in PV and what wind you roll. I definitely got frostbite risk very early on my one and only Misery run before even leaving PV, I had to sleep it off in the farmstead.
Bashrobe, one rumor I heard was if you find a spot on the fire that produces a great torch, you can keep pulling torches from that exact spot and they are all the same quality. I tried this on an Interloper run and pulled 6 or 7 50% torches from the same spot (very exactly the same spot) That would be great to know if I got lucky, or this is a thing.
I thought that stick respawn after blizzards is true. I just survived one in HRV hiding behind the rock and after this I collected a lot of sticks in the area to fullfil my inventory.
I have had flyover crows and immediate, subsequent weather change before. 3 crows flyover and disappear. Upon disappearance fog appeared. It happened a 2nd time twice for me, another 3 flew over and the fog became really thick. The 2nd time 3 flew over during light fog the for cleared as soon as they disappeared.
not really a myth but more a tip, the helicopters in the forsaken airfield. The backseats are 2x2 as you know and you can enter only on one side I believe but there are lockers on both sides. There are two lockers to your side which you can't search because you can turn around only for 180° (this is fixable with a free look in cars mod which hasn't been updated for part 6)
Is it not true that Sundered Pass has more frequent auroras? I swear I read that in a note, description or saw it in an official video, and I personally experienced a lot of auroras during my time in that region.
haha… i was SURE that the crows were flying away from incoming blizzards 😂 so many wasted days chilling indoors when i thought i was being smart and avoiding a big storm smh
Whats about the smell icon? When you have 2 not raw meat it dosent show that you smell but with 3 pieces it 1/3 smell Dose it mean that you smell is about 33% stronger then normal (each piece about 11% smell (+range for wild life to spot you) or dose it mean that before it you was at 0 and now you at 33%
Nice work - the Aurora's in Sundered Pass however do get triggered at certain points and only if your a certain distance away from the place you need to get to - to use it - I found this out myself playing it.
This game sucks, I recently started playing 2 months ago, I have 45 hours, all on one save that was just about to reach 70 days but the buggy game killed me in a wolf encounter somehow even though I had a far away from any wolf... I Lost so many good parka's, and animal clothes...
Yeah you know that happened to me for thr first time today. I have 1000 plus hours into this game. Must be a bug from the recent patch. This game is awesome btw, just keep at it
@ShawnRKA yep, going to have to, I started that save a at desolation point and traveled all the way to mystery Lake and further, so maybe I'll start from where I ended
@xwinter__riderx9155 sounds good. A tip, don't carry any meat if you can help it. Wolves and bears can sniff it out very well. If you need to take food take jerky anything else non animal meat
@ShawnRKA yeah, I never have meat on me, just MRE's and Airplane food for whenever I journey to different regions. But when I'm traveling through the same region I'm in, I'll take anything since it's shorter trips
@xwinter__riderx9155 good idea. The wolves being right on top of you must be a bug. Wait till the iron it out. I never had an issue in the year I've been playing until the recent patch
No way! Ive been storing over 100kg of meat and litres of water down in the aurora mine because i got stuck down there for over a week and died over 2 years ago. The fear of that mine is real. Or should i say, "was" 😂😢
Would be nice if the rubber boots prevented you from electrocution in the aurora mine
oooh now that's thinking
Now that's kind of attention to details i want to see!
Would have been. But now you know an even safer option.
In real life you would likely still die unless they were some heavily insulated waning boots designed for such a thing.
@@TikisPlayhouse in real life auroras don't power up electric stuff either, among other things this game takes liberty in.

I was terrified of the Aurora Mine until hearing about this. I might consider the trek now...
I dunno, I suspect there's some buggy un-intended RNG down there. maybe related to people sleeping thru the hours when the aurora would first spawn?

Bear crows sound angry. That's how you can tell they are bear crows. :)
The Long Dark could be a very great horror game
We just need some mods to add some kind of scary monsters that spawn inside houses and outside.
No1 works like that for a limitation of the game. Other games would wait until you turn your back and/or walk away some distance to respawn the sticks and branches
But in tLD it would be weird if a branch just spawns right in front of you, so the game waits until you move into an interior
You can test that by collecting all the wood around, go inside, then go outside when the weather is clean and when the weather is windy
After strong wind and/or blizzards the woord spawn is way higher than on a clean weather
"Wheather" crows signalize wheather is gonna change soon and/or a change on daytime (at sunsetting and sunrising)
If you wake up too early and go walk outside you can notice these crows will fly by close to your character saying lines as "looks like a new day is dawning", which can be interpreted as a timestamp for sunrising
I remember reading both of these "myths" in the loading screen game tips
You did great with this video! I love things on left 4 dead and I enjoyed your theory on this game. :))
Maybe a portal one next?
I had no idea you could hear a bear from some crows! interesting! 1000+ hours in and I'm still learning new things :) looks like they just patched the wolf respawning in the workshop in BI but we'll see how that goes haha, one of these interior wolves got me good in a recent stint on interloper where I spawned in DP and had forgotten that it was there...got my vengeance yesterday but it surprisingly tough and aggressive!
I love the thumbnail lol
Yes i do remember being stuck in that mine for quite a few days, never tested it after, i just assumed do not linger, felt safer :)
The Hub wolf is called Mazey :)
Great work as always, crazy that we still learn new stuff after so many years.
Could we get a overall hunting guide, like the one you did for fishing? The fishing video was AMAZING!
I knew about them crows and the weather changing I always see them and say ohhh damn here we go ! ⛄️ 🐺 🐻 ☃️
The bear crows come to us right from the alpha version. F.e. if u play version 365 (vigilanttrespass) the bears will have a loud sound of crows, so you dont even hear growl or roar of the bear. It looks like a bag though.
Waiting for cougar myths and misconceptions.
Doing psss psss psss makes it less angry
Feed it a fish
Good job bashie top notch content as always 🎉
Oh god! Poor scruffy! Stuck in a groundhog day type loop of murder! Lol
I once found a book in a over head container on pilgrim
Have you covered the torch myth yet? I had a redditor tell me the other day that they believed, stil, that the direction you are facing a fire effects the torch duration. Which is obviously silly as its completely random.
Yeah it's random now. But I think there was a point where it worked in the past, either way it's not true on current version.
I thought the crow fly over were crows going to and from a roost or their rook at sun rise and sun set.
Applause. Amazing work.
bashrobe uploaded 🗣️🗣️
Since the new update the Aurora's do seem more frequent (not including the trader Aurora's)
I love tld and your vids. I learned alot, thank you! ❤
@Bashrobe yeah but do you think running causes wind cold to go up like running makes you warmer?
this was great, learned a lot!
Wait, the indoor wolf respawn bug is actually an infinite food glitch (and pelts, and guts)
Is it not true that Sundered Pass has more frequent auroras? I swear I read that in a note, description or saw it in an official video, and I personally experienced a lot of auroras during my time in that region.
OC only in TLD crows are controling the weather.
Hello my friend. Very interesting video. Thanks man
Great video as always! 🎉
7:05 but there are night aurora crows as well....🤔
haha… i was SURE that the crows were flying away from incoming blizzards 😂 so many wasted days chilling indoors when i thought i was being smart and avoiding a big storm smh
Incredible thumbnail 😂
What the heck, where are the aliens?! I got clickbaited!
Blackrock doesn't have a milling machine tho... It only has an ammo workbench
awesome thumbnail
Whats about the smell icon?
When you have 2 not raw meat it dosent show that you smell
but with 3 pieces it 1/3 smell
Dose it mean that you smell is about 33% stronger then normal (each piece about 11% smell (+range for wild life to spot you)
or dose it mean that before it you was at 0 and now you at 33%
Nice work - the Aurora's in Sundered Pass however do get triggered at certain points and only if your a certain distance away from the place you need to get to - to use it - I found this out myself playing it.
That's great content actually!
Super cool video!
Aurora mine?? were is this?
Coastal Highway. close to the trailer that is next to the ice.
please make a cougar guide for us☺
I feel like the first two used to be true at some point.
Zorp zorp zorb zorb glib glop glew zorb
Why does the wolf never comes stray to me when trying to shoot him with the bow , always comes in zigzag that makes me more difficult to hit him.
walking simulator
Good video :)
epic!
Immersion breaking? How about spawning wolves and bears right on top of you?
No way! Ive been storing over 100kg of meat and litres of water down in the aurora mine because i got stuck down there for over a week and died over 2 years ago. The fear of that mine is real. Or should i say, "was" 😂😢
