Hinterland: Lets add cheat death to save long runs where players died due to bugs TLD community: Lets kill ourself 3x times at the start of the game to get the debuff
Very interesting idea, I appreciate your sharing the failures prior to the success. Enjoyed this, would love to see you play it out to the afflictions clear.
Haha i know the feeling, don't worry about it. The great thing about the game is that you can take your time and learn. No need to feel competitive or "bad" as long as you enjoy your time.
It does say wood matches for just a few milliseconds right at 37:51. There and gone so quick. even in slow mow but there were definitely matches right there.
1:40 Accidently used the birch bark as tinder. I really wish they'd code it to use the other tinder first by default. Makes for a lot of clicking and mistakes when you're distracted, like with selecting the right fuel source.
Love to see a continuation :) I've just started trying Interloper and it has not been great lol watching you survive circumstances like this is so wild to me!! But it has taught me so much about the game and genuinely helped me be a more successful player!
Other than "game mechanics" I've never liked the fact that you require a bedroll to sleep. Like, Hinterland has severely underestimated my ability to pass out anywhere.
Even if passing out on the raw ground comes with, say, less control over how long you sleep, reduced health regen or no bonus regen, youd think uou could at least do it....
@@nahoj.2569Sure, but on the other hand, there are still benches, bedding, and rugs in many buildings.

I’ve been on a major bushcraft and survival kick on UA-cam, and people LITERALLY will just not sleep before they will do that. The heat loss is massive, and so dangerous. If it’s cold enough for the air to be a problem, the ground is actually an even bigger problem.
that one would be able to cook oats in a can would be really something that would be very useful (and realistic)! as well as the warmth buff from cooked water, like the teas, as I wrote probably 100 times - hallo Hinterland 👋😂
Imagine a somthing you could turn on and off like scurvy where your liquids go from hot off the fire to if your freezing outside your liquids freeze up
Zak makes interloper look like a breeze lol. I thought stalker was kinda tough with all of the wolves, I can only imagine how tough interloper and especially misery is.
"We don't have water"/ "Let's cross the waterfall", the game is infuriating sometimes. Double thermal right from the start while other run, you have to search the entire world to find your second. Losing your clothing and your can is quite a challenge, especially with only 25% max condition.
Regarding this challenge an interesting idea might be to do a pilgrimage of sort after fully recovering the 30 days and visiting every previous spawn point you...reshuffled, whilst leaving a small memento at each one.
I follow you since two years, maybe more. But in this run I could clearly see, that Mastering Misery, improved your playing skills. This run is insane.
I eventually got to this point on stalker recently. Game spawned me in Blackrock. Somehow I managed to literally run past the Timberwolves and leave the map, but the cold and lower hp eventually got to me on the long path to the next zone. That and the lack of a can is brutal.
that's why i tend to leave minimal supplies like a can, firewood, matches in many places (like Cook's & prison) and have a good regional base at substation. helps out in a pinch like this.
I remember when i first saw TLD when my cousin played it and i then started to watch videos on the game, back then i used to not like your videos but now i do enjoy them A LOT, younger me was kinda dumb ngl.
I love how everyone is commenting the same thing I will, which is: Hinterland: "Here's a way to cheat death up to 3 times, we've removed permadeath" TLD fans: 'Aw damn, permadeath is gone?' TLD hardcore fans: 'Aw damn, only 3 waves of debuffs?'
Totally enjoyed this one, Zak, even though it totally stessed me out and I even yelled at you a couple times. LOL. I'd definitely watch you finish the challenge.
Great new game mode! It took me three goes until I managed to find a sustainable run. Currently on Day 3 in Coastal Highway with 10% health but with full meters. I wish I had your luck with matches, it would have made the run a lot easier!
Zak starting a new challenge... Also Zak within 1 min in the game: casually finding the one failure in the game hinterland doesn't even know existed: nah, that's not ash canyon 😳🫣😋
19:40 I think it's implied that if you slept without insulation from the ground you would die of hypothermia, like how your survivor comments 'I'd eat snow if the hypothermia wouldn't kill me' (even if you can't actually eat snow in-game).
I guess you could have the survivor sleep anywhere, but sleeping on bare ground would give you a major penalty to warmth, like -10° or so. If you are wrapped in 2 bear coats and 2 sweaters, you should be able to crash on the floor of a cave.
@@enderofbarts yeah or on warm places, just to have a nap on the floor. I remember that I was thinking about that some weeks ago because stupid me forgot my bedroll 🙄
There could be a pot in HRV, you can go up from the river canyon using a fallen tree and nearby there should be a snow shelter and a fire with a possible pot on it.
Another great video Zak. Thank you. I'd very much like to see you complete the 30 days. I always enjoy the first month of an interloper run so with the extra debuff it adds a little something extra to the challenge. Out of interest, have you or anyone in the community heard or seen anything about the 'Recycled Can Recipes'? I always thought they were a nice idea but we're yet to see any in game. I'm hoping they add them with the update in December but was wondering if anyone had heard anything.
The Long Dark is probably my favorite game ever, and even though this video gave me the worst and most extreme form of anxiety ever, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it in the end. Seriously though, thanks for all the stellar content, Zak. You’re a mad man lol.
during the first attempt you could've tried making it to the ice cave above moose overlook valley, there was a bedroll and i think? a cooking pot, but it was a pretty bad start.
10:15 on HRV you have guaranteed pot + hacksaw at the campsite that spawn between these three sites: at the hilltop near the bear den, at the hilltop near reclusive falls, or on the other side of the gorge just in front of the cave you found the first matches.
@@nannakurzhaar YES! Also possible to fall off a train trestle. That's a long way down. Also, it is somehow possible to fall off of a rope and bleed to death. Go figure! LOL I think they call it, "I died from over confidence." 🤣
Zak there are cans and cooking pots in HRV you should have went into sketcheys cave to get the bed roll hacksaw and sometimes there is a summit soda there too.
@@Zaknafeinyes in that first cave there is a chance spawn of a little campsite with a cooking pot and rosehips. Maybe a piece of rabbit and guts as well?
So, I just tried this and it took me several attempts before I didn't die from lack of a can. Had some very bad spawns where I wasn't near anything with a toilet for water, etc. Finally, I managed on my sixth or seventh try to find a can in the footwell of a car (YAY). I'm currently on day 17 of that spawn, doing pretty well, except I have not yet managed to find any pants. So I'm wandering around without pants. I look pretty stupid and my crotch keeps threatening to get frostbite. Heading through the dam now, going to keep fingers crossed that maybe I can find pants in the signal shack in PV, or maybe at the plane crash. My buttcheeks are icy. Wish me well.
at cave with matches I would have went out the cave and turned left. The cave system would have the bedroll and a small chance of a can. Going right and into that cave system was certain death.
Hi Zak, in your 2nd attempt (Broken Railroad 27:30) - if you would choose to go to the Hunting Lodge again instead of the Railroad Yard, it would have been at least warm inside there - and you would have had a better chance to survive until the next morning light (with a warm bed and toilet water...) What do you re-think (now)
This is kind of ridiculous... Why would anyone self-impose such absurd hard version of the game? And why did I watch it all, indirectly approving and supporting all this suffering?!?!
Hinterland: So we introduced this new feature to make the game less punishing.
Interloper players: Extra debuffs from day 1, you say?
Hinterland: Lets add cheat death to save long runs where players died due to bugs
TLD community: Lets kill ourself 3x times at the start of the game to get the debuff

A well thought out and a less than miserable challenge, this is. Take care and stay warm!
On attempt 3 at 37:51 "wood matches" popped up beside the corpse. I was really hoping you would be able to find them again.
yes, i watched at slow speed to find them

birch bark should be default tinder.
@@winnsanity1243 Why? It has another purpose, unlike regular tinder
This and the default of grabbing a new torch or bow from your inventory instead of the ones with lowest condition.
The happy intro music with the "Death Is Always Waiting" got me 😂😂
I like that all the runs have different music but I missed the main song a bit (what is stupid because it is on my playlist) it is just very nice!

A refreshing change from normal interloper. Nice to see the goat struggle a bit 😂
