for the nerdiest of us, Harmont is also a fictional Canadian city in the Strugatsky brothers' book, Roadside Picnic, which gave birth to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R saga. I wouldn't be surprised if it was an easter egg I'm hyped as hell for this game, I wonder how it would be!
@GS8641. Sorry, but I have to correct you. The book is written by the Strugatsky brothers, but I get your confusion since there's a soviet movie directed by Andrey Tarkovsky based on the book
@@GS8641. Not surprising. The DNA of the Stalker games is pretty embedded into The Long Dark in terms of exploration, item scavenging, navigating the world as if it were or is full of anomalies.
I would honestly say that the long dark has been a “finished” game for a long time and people insinuate as if it is a crappy kickstarter game, that’s broken and not complete. The long dark is packed full of effort and features, the devs could’ve stopped adding stuff a long time ago and said it is feature complete and it would still be a great game
Extremely excited, but something I'm worried about is this game losing the sad loneliness the long dark is known for. But I guess we'll have to wait and see
That is true. Loneliness is a core theme of both the survival mode and Wintermute. While you can play Blackfrost with friends, you can still go at it by yourself.
That's the beauty of having two separate games. And Hinterland has earned my trust - been playing TLD since Early Access, and they have more than surpassed my expectations (and hopes). I'll play TLD1 when I need my solo fix, and TLD2 when I want to group up.
Honestly, I think we will to some extent (possibly a lot), and I think that's alright. The Long Dark is all about the end of an age, and the almost total isolation of the game reflects that even in things like the lighting and artstyle. You look at Blackfrost's art direction and in almost all regards it's warmer and a little softer - I think this game will be about the optimistic struggle to survive and adapt as a species and collective rather than the quiet and isolating experience of waiting for the world to end. I will say though that I hope the NPC's are fleshed out enough that the lone wanderer playstyle they describe on the steam page actually has a reason to exist - hopefully resources will be limited enough that teaming up and building a community is a legitimately arduous task (that some people may have good reason to never pursue) and not just the meta strat lol.
I only see this game as a total win. The co-op feature will definitely bring more people into the quiet apocalypse. Once they get drawn into the world I can see them going to great bear!
@@BillStelling what would be awesome is if there was a skill level with the dog, where the stronger the relationship with the dog, the more things they can do for you because you have more commands available to give to the dog, kinda like the dog in I Am Legend or dog meat in Fallout 4

I thought I recognized a couple of locations in the trailer from TLD. The crashed plane on the ice looks like Forsaken Airfield, and Will (or whoever) in the interior looks like The Riken. But the more I look at it and learn about Blackfrost, I don't think that's the case. These are probably new locations that just invoke the old ones in some way.
Hi there! Harmont looks like an aggregation of various Canadian sceneries. I thought at first this could be Ontario since Ontario does nuclear power plants.
