In today's video, I have the pleasure of visiting my good friend Dr. Alec Brown who is a veterinarian and passionate herpetoculturist! Alec tours us through his reptile room where he keeps and breeds the stunning, yet sadly, critically endangered Electric blue day gecko (Lygodactylus williamsi), several localities of Oophaga pumilio and a breeding group of flashy Yellow-headed day geckos (Phelsuma klemmeri). Hope you enjoy!

Welcome back everyone! So sorry it's been a minute since my last video! I'm hoping to get back to posting 2 uploads a week asap! Thank you so much to Dr. Brown for welcoming us all into his/his partner's home to see the incredible work he is doing out of his love and passion for reptiles and amphibians! What Alec does is a shining example of conservation through captivation. What do you think? Don't forget to answer today's QUESTION OF THE DAY and lastly, my sincere thanks to my Channel Patrons over on Patreon for making videos like this possible! More info: www.patreon.com/Reptiliatus !
Don’t be sorry!! If you need to take a hot minute for yourself, we get it and we’re here when you get back ❤️😍🦎🐢!
I totally agree with your vet buddy. I do not handle my Pac-Man frog unless I am cleaning or feeding. He is much to small still and is at the 2inch mark. He had probably been out of water for a week before hitting the pet store. I love watching him. I am wake during the night, so many of my pets are nocturnal. I am to mimick natural moon lighting for him in his enclosure. He does move all about his tank. I wish I was in Canada, lol you are in back yard so to speak, the border is 20 mins away. I live very top part of Vermont. In fact it's where our country's fought for land. Big battle in the 1700's. I love your channel.
I'm really liking the idea of "meaning ful" reptile keeping. Having pets is nice, but actually contributing to species conservation is great.
It ads a whole knew element to it! Very rewarding to be contributing to something special like this!
As someone who's been a herp hobbyist since the 90s, I'm *really* glad that more and more exotic vets and herp specialists are *actually* herp hobbyists. It means really good things for the herp community as a whole and the care that our animals will receive.
Alec has such a soothing voice! All the conservation work he is doing is incredible!
Haha yes, we always tell him that he has a very soothing voice too! He’s a great friend doing some great things!
Dr Alec is doing important work with the Williamsi. His setups and attention to habitat details is enviable. Much appreciated content.
We need more sudan plated lizards in captivity! They are as easy to care for as a bearded dragon and they are so cool! Sadly many of them are imported though.
Thanks for showing the group off! It was my pleasure to have you over and I can't wait to do it again sometime soon!
definitely need more micro geckos in the hobby!! Love his collection great video
Couldn’t agree more for both accounts!
Where do you get the small enclosure for the babies?
We need more captive bred Savannah monitors and that’s one reason I’ve put all my focus on breeding my multiple pairs and was blessed with 3clutches and over 80 babies. Hopefully in few years they won’t be taken from the wild in the thousands anymore. But I absolutely love the variety in his collection of stunning geckos and dart frogs and the plants are top notch 👌
Great work and dedication rite there👏🏻
Watching this really made me miss my williamsi! Well done Alec and Dayyan!
Me too buddy! It was nostalgic! Thanks for watching!
This dude needs his own channel. Very knowledgeable and calming/relaxing.
100% a dream reptile! stunning geckos!
They are so cool bro! Thank you for watching! 😊🦎
Wow the vet. Has a very nice reptile room ....my dream room. thanx for sharing
Thanks Dayan, great video. Dr Brown is da man. So happy to meet him at the reptile expo last year.
Thank you so much! Hopefully see you at the next one!
I absolutely love micro geckos! I currently have mourning geckos, but I would love to other species in the future!
Me too! That’s awesome! Those are cool! People keep telling me to get into them but I only have so much space and want to dedicate it to animals/projects I am very passionate about 😅!
@@Reptiliatus yeah. I get that. I'm very limited on space as well, and am trying to stick to projects that I truly love. Mourning geckos are amazing and take up so little space. I mean honestly, you could put them in with some of your dart frogs in and already existing tank you have. I currently just have normal ones, but I would love to get the different localities like yellow bellies and Hawaiian. I especially really want some high contrast Hawaiian, because they are so beautiful!
In Canada, I'm going to say Australia Water Dragons. They are very rare to find at this time. I do have a pair and fingers crossed that I will have success with breeding! Thanks for sharing your pets with us Dr Brown!
1. Hi Dayyan! 2. Dr. Brown expresses himself intelligently and quietly. When he speaks, it feels like you're talking with a friend. I loved this episode! I really enjoy Dr. Brown. He can be in lots more episodes if he wants. 😉
And then 3. UA-cam is NOT showing me new episodes from you Dayyan. And that is NOT ok. Idk what to do. I'm going to rewatch some older videos to see if that helps!
Definitely more red eyed croc skinks. I want one so bad but damn they're so expensive because they're so rare.
Yes thanks for showing us how Dr Brown keeps his animal's. Love how he does not handle them very important . Nice tour
Jay and larry
My pleasure! Thank you for watching Jay and Larry! I’m happy you enjoyed the video!
Just bought a Crested gecko and through the researching process your videos have helped a lot thank you!!🙌🏽
You and Alec are my favourite bromance ❤️ But in all seriousness, what an incredible video! Alec is so knowledgeable and his passion for these animals is so noticeable in the way he cares for them and speaks about them! You did a great job with the Hello Fresh ad too! 😉
🤣😂😂🤣😂
Merci ma chérie ❤️.
I'm so very glad to see that someone is helping to preserve a rare species of gecko through captive breeding. We need more people like him and the world will be a better place.
Couldn’t agree more!
My vote for QOTD is Corucia zebrata. Prehensile tailed skinks are awesome! Our first reptile, who we got 21 years ago, is one. She Our is still with us and our love for her and the endangered status of her species prompted us to get 3 juveniles 2 years ago in hopes of adding more of these under-rated reptiles to the world. Hopefully in another 2 years we will know if our investment paid off.
Im new to the hobby and hope to see more captive breeding of emerald tree skinks. I was so excited when I saw them featured on another channel but then found out they are really hard to find captive bred (in Canada at least)... will eagerly await them to catch on so I can get a captive bred one as I dont feel Im ready to try to raise a wild caugth with all the issues Ive learned they can have.
I love these little gekos also 😊 glad to see so much effort put into captive breeding them to try to save the wild population as much as possible
Dayyan buds, you are BLESSED to have Dr Brown as your vet, and your friend! we should all be so lucky!!!
Hi Dayyans sister!!!
QOTD: I’d love to see more Aussie reptile species myself.
Alec’s conservation efforts are awesome, bless you guys for seeing the need and helping!!
The good thing about all tropical humid enclosures is that you can establish large colonies of isopods as a great clean up crew and secondary food source.
Well said! Certainly the right conditions for that!
Well done Alec for being brave with letting the camera in , and thank you for showing us your adorable little critters
It was a great experience! He’s a good friend with great passion for animals!
QOTD: Everything!! Lol. Seriously, I can't think of many species that DON'T need more captive representation. Most invertebrates species as well! I love morphs, but imo we need to take a step back from that and ensure the presence of these animals for future generations. Once we have a strong captive population, go nuts!
Just wanted to shout out how awesome the doc is, we need more vets that are hobbyists themselves!
File snakes! I'm in USA and there's one local breeder near me and I've found like two others online. I love them. My number one dream snake.
Fantastic suggestion! Those are beautiful animals!
I have never even heard these geckos, but they seems super cute and I learned a tonne. Thanks for interestind and educational video, really appreciated.
Kudos for propagating this species, doc!!
I love seeing people double down on a few species. Thanks for sharing :)
It’s a really nice thing to see! Especially when it’s done so well and with this much ethical reproductive success! 😊👍🏼
A species we need more of in captivity (captive bred) is the Mata Mata turtle.
They are very common in Europe bred regularly. Such a pretty species.
Thank you for showing us your collection Alec!! You did soooo well!!!❤️🥳 and your geckos are super cute!!!
great episode! thanks for all the insights
Thanks brother! Happy you enjoyed the video!
We need more captive bred white eyed croc skinks.
Working on that! 😅
The wait is over 🙌🏻❤️ hiiii Dayyan!!! The best surprise on this extremely dull Friday night!!!
Thank you for your patience! Happy to have hopefully brightened your Friday evening! 😊
Wow, absolutely beautiful set ups. And such beautiful and healthy looking animals. You can tell he loves, really works hard and puts a lot of effort into his animals and their well-being.
I feel these guys were blazed by the end of the video 🤔
Lol I actually don't drink or do any recreational drugs.
I was just considering some small day geckos. Perfect timing for this video.
I'm in New-Brunswick and we have a hard time getting most reptiles. I would love to see more day geckos and tree frogs.
Geckoella nebulosa. Beautiful geckos, hard to come by. But in general, I'd take any terrestrial micro gecko. I've done the large lizards and 'regular sized' geckos but as I tend to enjoy observing more than handling my geckos, I am pretty pleased with my P. Vazmbas, H. imbricatus and G. nebulosa. There are many more species I'd love to keep, but I'm trying to limit myself. And I was definitely feeling Dr. Brown's dislike of crickets, but as a keeper of terrestrial species, bean beetles were easy to keep but not so easy for my poor geckos to catch. Great video, keep 'em coming.
Gonna look at this video in later years, considering he's keeping all the geckos and frogs I want to!!
AMAZING setups!! So cool!
Great video very interesting and stunning collection
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
Qotd: I think we need more captive bred northern water snakes in the hobby, because they're just so cool, but almost never bred in captivity
I love the set ups and appreciate how his passion is helping conservation, thanks to you both.
They are so great! You are most welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
The world really needs more red eared sliders. Got to populate every body of water on every continent with them. More sail fin dragons would be cool too.
😉😅🐢 lol! Yes, Sailfins would be great!
This was a great upload! He is such a knowledgeable guy and he keeps/breeds some amazing animals!
Thank you! Yes, Alec is fantastic!
honestly, half of the reason I watch these videos now is for the doc brown cameos
👨⚕️
Great vid. Love Dr. Brown. Answer of the day, I'd like to see some Uromastyx Macfadyeni available in the hobby.
I think there should be more scarlet kingsnakes in the hobby
Love your content 😊❤️ I’m so excited for this video!!!
Thank you so much! I hope you'll love it!
Is Dr Alec single tho? What a MAN.
We definitely need more of all Mexican, Central and south amercan species pf everything!
YES!
The species i think we need more of in Australia anyway is liasis fuscus they are quite rare most likely because of their reputation of being bitey snakes
Tuataras…qtod. I seen a short clip on those just a bit ago and wanted to know more. Cute little dinosaurs! 😍😆
Great video.. what a cute species! …. All 3 of you! 😆👍🏾
Amazing collection!!! Really enjoyed this video 💚🦎💚
Thank you! I’m so happy you liked it! I had a lot of fun touring and recording Alec’s animals!
Great vid, Dr. Brown needs his own channel. :-)
Thank you! Haha I’ll let him know!
awesome tour
I wish we could have more giant leaftails - not that it's sustainable at this time but just if I could wish 😊
🦎👍🏼
Awesome great pets animals reptiles room. 👍
Thank you so much!
I wish there was more captive breeding of croc. skinks, smaller monitors, green tree snakes...
...And box turtles.
Well said! I’m trying to work on a few of those and do my part!
Impressive!
Great video!
In Germany they are very common and everything else than rare :D but beautiful Geckos for Sure!
Yeah the most of the "rare animals" on this channel are very common in Europe. One time he said there are only a few Shinisaurus left in Canada, u can get them for 100€ everywhere here in Germany...also the williamsis are common and very cheap here
as someone with over 20 yrs Cooking exp , I say challenge accepted good man , but I agree with it for the super busy folks like you :D
I'll get one soon too
I think we need more knob tail geckos in the hobby! More specifically the Nephrurus Asper ❤️❤️🦎
Nice suggestion! Thank you!
Borneo earless monitor. They look like teeny tiny dragons, with tiny blue eyes.
Definitely more of these, and Phelsuma klemmeri. They'd almost impossible to get captive bred in Canada without being on a years-long waiting list. Lamprolepis smaragdina (green tree skink) and Opheodrys aestivu (rough green snake) captive bred too. You can find these relatively easily in the US but not in Canada.
Awesome video
Thank you!
Ugh I want phelsuma klemmeri so badly!!
I would love to see a captive population of oenpelli pythons outside Australia. Also some night tiger boiga
Wow, that would be very cool!
Epically cool video.
Thank you! Thrilled you enjoyed it!
Great video
Thank you!
It may not be a reptile, but we defenitly need more vampire crabs.
Couldn’t agree more! I LOVE them!
Mellers chameleons would be awesome to have more in the hobby
Agreed!
Great room with some great animals and setups. Williamsi are stunning, Dream gecko👀
Dr. Brown is doing incredible work. He almost makes me want to really pursue a exotic vet degree but i'm still on the fence lol.
We need more brazilian short-tailed opossums, imo. One of my dream pets, all the fun of a pet rat but in a marsupial form. Or so I've heard. I really hope to find out for myself one day.
We need more Jeweled Lacertas!
He’s so soft spoken lol
There is so many that we need more in hobby..... Because the wild populations are declining dracticly
Very true! Everything needs captive representation at this point
I believe we need way more captive bred tokays
Couldn’t agree more! Happy to be contributing to that endeavour!
I did succesfully breed a few of these, it is kinda hard!
Sadly I wasnt very lucky with my females (the more expensive ones of this species) and they both died young.
But I still got my first male and one male of his offspring - in seperate enclosures of course.
I have sold about 13 Williamsi to other reptile keepers. But I had decided to not breed these anymore due to the problems I got with the females.
This videos wants me to find 2 girls for my little blue boys again... :D
Would love to see more captive bred California red-sided garter snakes and Schneider's skinks.
Those are some fantastic options!
Peacock monitor i think would be a really good one very nice looking monitor with not much info out there
Oooo so underrated! A lot of people don’t even know they exist!
Hi, im in nz currently so I can't really keep anything I see on this channel but I recently got 2 pet bell frogs !!! they are like whites tree frogs but cooler yeygeytgeygessugfydayfgsy
I want more Chinese cave gecko friends. They need more conservation efforts and captive breeders.
Qotd answer
Probs copperheads so more people could get into venemous
need more Shinisauriae and Fiji Iguanas!!!!!!!!
YES! Working on one of those! 😅
@@Reptiliatus are you in canada? Able to have fiji ig?
I just ordered 2 female Rare Geckos they are called Crocodile Geckos they are super cool and I named them Willow and Skye
So the electric blue day gecko is not in Phelsuma? That is interesting.
Nope! Lygodactylus genus 😊
@@Reptiliatus that's really interesting. I wonder what characteristic(s) distinguish it from those in Phelsuma.
at 12:38 what's that plant? it looks awesome. I would like to know, so I could get one for myself.
If he is a vet he should know that UVB doesnt penetrate glass. That T5 has a bunch of glass panels underneath it.
would love to show you both my black dragon, water monitors definately a species that loves affection and attention
Those are amazing! Lucky you!
My section of New York (Western New York) its hard to get into exotic/ specialty vets. Some other of the veterinarian offices will have 1 dr. Who does exotics and they and in aybe 1-2 times a week
Can you do a update on your monitor lizards
Sure! I’ll try to do one soon :)
peter banded skinks, and emerald green tree skinks, what is interesting is the pipe to lay the girls eggs, i have heard that the emerald green tree skinks will lay in the upper enclosures if they can, i wonder if this tip would work for those as while. Thanks, love the video
Brilliant suggestions! I couldn't agree more! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Can you share what size screen you use for keeping fruit flies from escaping?
I use "woven wire 40" mesh. The number is the size of the holes, 40 seems small enough to prevent the melanogaster from escaping!
