  • Walkthrough of how to replace the struts and shocks on your 2003 Toyota Tacoma 4x2. This is a project that will take a little extra work but is something that is doable at home. The majority of the job can be done by yourself, but I did need an extra had when installing the new front strut. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. Let me know how your project goes!

    Your video was my primary reference for replacing the front struts on my 2004 Tacoma Prerunner. Putting the assembly back on without help was definitely a challenge. For the front left, I secured the crowbar in place with some nylon string and placed the crowbar under my arm pit. I then pressed down with all my weight while reaching down and around and moving the strut and pin through the hole. This took many tries, but it eventually worked. (Sore underarm for a few days afterward). For whatever reason, this method did not work for the front right. I had to lay down and move the crowbar down with my foot. Without these two hang-ups this would have been a much easier job. I should have recruited some help like you did. Thanks for posting. Great video.

      Next time use a rachet strap to pull the crowbar down.

    Very well done video. Clear instructions with good visual to see the details. Also good point on buying the complete coil over instead of separate pieces, takes the anxiety of about compressing springs way off.

    If I can't get enough force on the pry bar to get the bolt in then I will put a rachet strap on it to pull it down. Rachet straps are very handy. I used one to pull my transmission jack with the transmission on it from the front of my Trailblazer to under it, because I had cardboard down for me to lay on and the jack would not roll over it easily when loaded down.

    Question, I have a 04 Tacoma crew cab and I’m looking to replace the front spring/strut complete setup. What setup/parts did you use? 4Runner set?

  • @brannonpardue1358

    How they riding man? Made a huge difference I’m sure, dropping a new motor , trans, and new front end parts in my 98 in the next month
    Bought the truck off my dad who had it since new, course I’m 35 and have kids of my own, anyways I’m so ready to get mine done. It’s gonna be like a new truck

      Mines still driving and just passed 300,000 but looking forward to seeing how much of an improvement it will be. How do you like that brand suspension?

    • @TheOrdinarySean
      @TheOrdinarySean  4 роки тому

      The truck rides completely different but so much better than the old ones. I like the both of the brands (KYB Shocks and Monroe Struts). They seem to be good quality, good price, and they fit and work as they should. Good luck with all of the work on your truck! From the little bit of work I’ve done on this Tacoma, they seem to be awesome trucks.

      Absolutely man, and thanks. My dad had this truck since I was in high school, always wanted it
      Even though I used to have some kick ass jeeps, I always wanted one. They are great trucks, I’m 100 percent sure doing all the work I mentioned so I’m super pumped to see the results. Thanks for the video my friend I’ll hit that subscribe button 👍

    Did you end up having to go with the forerunner front struts because of the weight of the double cab

    • @TheOrdinarySean
      @TheOrdinarySean  3 роки тому

      No, we were able to use the standard strut that fits the Tacoma. There seems to be no issue with the weight on it.

      @stantoncook 2 роки тому

      @@TheOrdinarySean I saw a youtube video as well where a guy was saying you needed a 4runner strut assembly for the double cab. Is this just bad info? I am getting ready to order some to replace mine on my 4 door.

    • @TheOrdinarySean
      @TheOrdinarySean  2 роки тому

      @@stantoncook I did not use the 4runner strut assembly and everything seems to be fine over a year later. The 4runner strut assembly may be an overall better part when compared to the basic one I used. I'm not knowledgeable on the difference between the two parts, so I can't speak to that. However for my/my wife's use of the truck we didn't need anything special.
