I've only been on a sailboat once in my 50 years and the ocean scares the crap out of me but i really dig watching you do it. Great content and i appreciate it. Thanks! You're the Mariner! Lol
My friend Gayle is Croatian and myself half Siciliano so i ejoyed the typography. The sunset was beautiful but my favorites are your MOON lit reflections at night. The black, white, and silver hues are so calming on a rolling sea. LaLuna can be a beacon for a sailor at night. As welcoming to see as the Sun... Thanx again Sam. And wow best meals ive seen you cook. Did you pick the Asparagus yourself. I hear it grows wild in my native land. Right off the fields. My grandmother would ho pick them in her youth. Keep floating the seas, let them give that pickle a tickle!
Just catching up with your adventures. We love sailing in Croatia, but it's a long time since we've been. The scenery in the Kornati islands is spectacular.
hi you are a very good sailor, never heard you complain, first saw you sailing the 23-footer to the islands , Captain Cook 80 yrs sailing 60 years, Good News 2 26 ft sloop . dreaming of sailing from home port Durban South Africa to Scotland .
Hello from Alabama Sam, man I really enjoy your sailing videos. Makes me want to get out on the water and do the same... Yes think I will hit Mobile Bay today! God bless you sir and please be safe in your travels!
Man I wish I could take a month off work and you would invite me on a sailing. Be so cool to experience what you go thru with the professional you are. Cheers brother!
Joe in the 80s,me.and my mate used to go to waterlooville , every shop open, used to play computers upstairs com 64, it was fantastic place covid didn't help.
2,368th tag-along view gonna happen... where are we off to today?! 424th LIKE posted... cause I'm sure it'll be a fun and good one. "AHOY there, Mate!!"
Oh yeah, forgot to say when i sailed in Ixtapa the fisherman were brutal too. Boatsful of them laughing at us girls as we sailed kept getting infront on purpose. And we had no motor just sail. We kept tacking away. They kept laughing at us. Not cool...
Lookin' good! Two questions: is that your fon or a small tablet that you're using for navigation? and what is the navigation app you're using? looks very easy to use. thanks
Nav app is Navionics. The small tablet I think is an Android one that was specially made for marine use. The manufacturer sent it to him. There was an episode a while back where Sam introduced it.
So what i always on sailing channels is, people sailing from country x to country y. But what i am missing is the required administration and who needs to be informed when you leave/arrive and how. And ofcourse what you are not required to tell the authorities (like sailing from Isle to Isle?!?). So my question would be what is involved to travel from country to country, what are the costs, and are there places you would be denied, and how to adjust your plans.
Yup - it is no doubt more complicated than Sam makes it look. But the bright side is that there are a lot of people living aboard their boats and exploring the world, going from country to country, so there are quite a few resources online. As an alternative for those who have the means to do so, there are also professional agents who help handle these types of logistical/administrative tasks.
Depends on the country you’re leaving and sailing too. Sometimes nothing needs to be done and sometimes you have to find some authorities and do paperwork and fees.
Last video you were trying to get in touch with the harbor master/CG over VHF. They won't answer your calls if you keep calling it RAMINI... pretty sure they have no idea what you are saying over the radio. Stay safe out there.
@@samholmessailing if you are going to moor in Apulia (Brindisi or Bari) they will most likely answer your call especially during summer months due to high tourist traffic (that's my experience). That being said you are not required by law to call in when entering a port with a recreational boat in Italy (and that's probably another reason why they don't answer your calls). Just a heads up contrary to every port in Italy you got the right of way when entering the port of Brindisi.
@@samholmessailingThat's the plan. I just need new standing rigging and a windvane. Oh and money. Ericson 27, small but good. Enjoying the videos Sam, keep up the good work. See you out there.
Man keeping it real! Rolly anchorages, lack of wind, anchor drag and dodging high fees. As real as it gets, thanks Sam.
Sam just jumps right into his videos. Raw. Those other channels should take a cue from Sam. He’s not wasting time with those pointless intros 🤘🏽
Love your positive mental attitude Sam. Exactly the right approach to sailing.
*to anything 😊
Thanks
I love when you drop another video I instantly click

Your food always looks so delicious!
1 knot oh man i was thinking about quitting sailing... 6 knots (grinning ear to ear) a little over powered but Full Steam Ahead sailing is the best!
The real thoughts of a small boat captain
Quicker to get out and walk!
Thanks Sam , I listen to the waves and the wind and it's transforming! Keep it up
Great content again Sam, regards from Scotland.
Thanks for letting us live through your experiences. My prayers are with you. ❤

I love my fenix headlamp you were using. Combine with a 3500 MA battery and they are hard to beat. Great video!

Mouse Bilson, rest in peace. Can you still purchase durban poison by the broken wall? Is the snake park surf club still in existence?
Sam the Man always a good viewing experience of your sailing adventures , Cheers from Australia mate !!

it's always "worthwhile" to se Sam Sailing
"The water is a little cold today (for windfoiling)", says the man that foiled during a snow "storm" in norway :D
Great episode 😊
Thanks

He doesnt let peasants on his boat haha
Why would he want to be stuck on that tiny boat for a month with some stinky dude?
yeh the three piece dinner looked good
Thank you, Sam!
Don’t miss ACI Cres Marina and Beli beach. Also Illovik and Krk. 🎉
extra-like for these shots: 2:00; 6:52; 10:06.
Thanks!
Have you thought of sailing Patagonia?
Wondering at 8:06 what this boat is doing out there? Looks like a fishing vessel? Limassol is a port town in Cyprus
Asparagus and Brussels sprouts? Good job you're sailing solo.

That wind certainly picked up! It blew your beard off!!😵
Have fun! What's the next spot? Would we grab a beer in Montenegro again?
I just sailed to Malta. Unfortunately will have to wait until next time.
Sam, What is your navigation gear setup?
Happy viewing
Merci !

What’s the weather routing tool app or program you are using at 14:32 called?
Luck grib
Glad you sailed on from Croatia...those women are so good looking you would have never came back to sailing.
Did we ever get our motor mounts in?
Not yet. They are sending the new ones to Malta
Too much wind for stern anchor and a shore line? 🤔
You will love Croatia! Stay out of Marinas…. Very expensive

Within EU it should be very easy.
What would you estimate you spend monthly/yearly, to do what you do?
Idk maybe $3000 a month. I probably spend the most on food and restaurants.
@@samholmessailing thank you for the insight.
Nice looking food, how does your refrigeration work?
Its working pretty good
Can't believe that old spinnaker from the OYC has made it this long.
Yeah I was thinking that the other day too. I’ve really abused that thing a few times and it just keeps on going.
Also how often do you do a haulout to scrape the bottom ?
I have an electric anti fouling and I’ve never needed to haul out to clean it.
Sam is it me or are you starting to speak with the same cadence and inflection as the fabulous Ann-Elin? 🕵♂
Ant future plans to re-cross the Atlantic back to the Americas in Pickle?
Yes that is the plan

Sam other than length what would be different on a CD27 to CD 28
I think the 27 has two less windows also

When You heading from Italy to Croatia You have to go East, not west?
Yes
What anchor alarm you using?
I believe it’s an app called Anchor Alarm Pro
Last video you were trying to get in touch with the harbor master/CG over VHF. They won't answer your calls if you keep calling it RAMINI... pretty sure they have no idea what you are saying over the radio. Stay safe out there.
I usually try to call in just in case but don’t usually get a response. It’s easier to just take a dock anyway and find them later.

They might be dismantling the rigs now. Most seem to be old and redundant.
That would be great I think
do you ever worry about pirates?
Brand of glasses?
Generic
Would you ever take on a passenger thats terrified of the ocean, has no sailing experience, but will pay his way and split your expenses?
Wow that beard to no beard transition was shocking, you gotta warn me first Sam
Why cant i find you on AIS??
I don’t transmit AIS
@@samholmessailing i'm planning on a big trip with a 20 - 22 ft boat in the future. Is there a special reason why you don't transmit AIS?
So, uh, did I mention.I'm really jealous. Newmarks hasn't changed a bit since you left. Well, except james is gone too.
Why not sail your boat from Newmarks to Hawaii too

do you ever feel compelled to drag a line behind you incase you fall overboard or is that not a real thing?
Yeah, I did that for a while actually but it makes a surprising amount of drag and slows you down
Try AI meteorology
Great videos Sam. How much did youtube pay you last year for us watching all these ads in the vids?
$6 per 1000 impressions
Sam, do you ever fish while sailing ?
Occasionally
Anyone else catch the bird pooping 💩?
Lots of sponsorship on the interior 🤷♂️
$50.... they must have thought you were Tom Cruise on a one man Cruise . LOL
Steve and Judy of Sailing Fair Isle reported that they were scammed by officials in Croatia...Bill

Americans and language. 😂
You might aswel be speaking a foreign language 😮

I was thinking the beard was looking good, then you shaved it off. Please grow it again.
