    If the media is so accepting of Caitlyn Jenner deciding to be a woman, why can't they accept her identifying as something else. It seems like a double standard.

    • @SonaMona2108
      @SonaMona2108 9 років тому +1

      bleedingbatho because she contradicts herself multiple times not only just in this interview, but in several others. It makes people think that she is probably a white person trying to steal black peoples jobs/status to make herself look radical. She achieved a lot of positive reinforcement when she posed as a black woman, which now she feels is being stripped away, and she is feeling the burn. She misses being black and being in power.

      Race is not "a social construct". Race is a biological division.

      Theban Ned Greenman Okay, so if my doctor says I have excess of a certain cell/chemical in my body, I am completely different from you "biologically"? Just because one human produces more melanin than another, it does not "divide" us biologically. What you are implying is extremely racist - you're implying that a black person is a biologically different than a white person. That they are different species. You're wrong, sorry to say. Race IS a social construct. It's because we SEE a difference in appearance, we then assume we are different. It has NOTHING to do with the biology.

    Rachel disguised as an African American and advocated based on experiences that she never had. She didn't always identify as black/African American. She even filed a lawsuit against Howard University as a white woman in 2002. There was also the appeal in regards to that lawsuit in 2005. Furthermore, she said "No" in response to a question about identifying as an African American at the age of 16 which was the age she said she was when she was shown a picture of her paleskinned and straight haired blonde in an interview.
    A person cannot advocate based on personal experiences that he/she doesn't have. She is no Frederick Douglas type who was an abolitionist and former slave that advocated based on his personal experiences as a slave. She has no personal experiences as a black person, and so she shouldn't be advocating based on black experiences that she never had but yet claims that she had.
    Bruce Jenner only recently came out claiming to be a woman. It's not like he has been posing as woman and speaking for women's rights based on having experiences as a woman.
    I have nothing against transracial people nor transgender people.
    I have problems with people doing advocacy based on experiences that they never had.

      While I agree with mostly everything you've said I do think its important to note that Caitlin Jenner is not advocating for women rather advocating for transgendered women, in which she clearly has had experiences. Quite different from Rachel Dolezal advocating for black women and specifically on the topic of discrimination against black women where she has had no personal experience. Caitlyn Jenner's story is very different from Rachel's and its important to acknowledge that. Rachel Dolezal is blatantly abusing her white privilege but also exploiting the transgender community, which is very real.

    • @fomalhauto

You don't get to choose if you're a man/woman just like you can not chose if you black/white. Both are dumb, don't let social media trick you into believing people can freely identify as whatever they want, people IRL don't= people on social media

    It's pretty much the same being trans racial vs trans sexual. They both are claiming to be something that dna or biology disprove. If we are fine with women claiming to be men or men claiming to be women then this isn't a far stretch.

    I hate that she talks around the question of whether she is white or not. Its a simple yes or no question were you born white. Really it not hard to tell the truth. I don't think this whole thing would have been a big deal if she had just told the truth from the beginning. The fact that she lies about everything is making things worst for her in the media.

    Gender comes with its own emotion, feelings and perceptions brought by a chemical make up in your brain. Yeah, it's physical, but Gender is more than that, it's a feeling. I think race is completely different. Unlike gender which lies heavily on social construction, race lies completely on social construction. A white person and a black person do not naturally feel different, any differences are from outward forces. As a mixed race person, I don't personally feel different. She's full of it.

    • @etherspin
      @etherspin 9 років тому

      Alicia Coburg its a very interesting topic - gender/sex has a spectrum of emotions and predispositions that are reasonably variable . I don't know all the particulars of your position on transsexuality - I want more acceptance of people who chose to dress how they like, express themselves how they like and take a name they like but I very commonly see contradictory positions from people who advocate for transsexuals to be *literally* considered to have *become* the opposite sex , these people in my experience commonly say that men for example have no right to comment on and be considered significant voices about womens issues. thats bonkers to me, so while identifying as male a guy cannot speak about womens issues but if they wish to they can in the legal sense transform into a woman!
      dolezal has said something to the effect of being culturally black not racially black, by virtue of being raised with black siblings in a mostly black community and then continuing her association with that community by her job of choice, she also has two adopted black sons for further connection in her mind as well as claiming her parents were abusive, if so I can see why she would have an extra incentive to reject that part of her genetic identity.

    • @prophetofprosperity1107
      @prophetofprosperity1107 9 років тому

      Alicia Coburg
      You are no more obviously mixed than any other person.
      This reminds me of the story of the fork and spoon that meets the chop sticks. When they first meet, they ask "which one is the fork?" The point being depending on which culture you come from, it can sometimes be very hard to see anything outside of the preconceived ideas in your culture. You are 'mixed' but what does that mean exactly if everybody is mixed? You are 'more obviously mixed' but what does that mean?
      It means you cannot see yourself except outside of your culture. Your mind is limited to a single societies opinions and whims. How sad is that?
      If most people believed they looked like you then your image would be the norm and those who don't currently identify as mixed would actually be considered mixed.

    *Gender identity Vs Rachel Dolezol...*
    If you can not tell the difference between the development of a person's brain, it's connection to a person's sexual drive, sexual function, behavioural chemistries and the colour of someone's skin... Then I can not help you. Last time I checked one was an inherited physical trait, like skin colour, and the other was a person's psychological make-up.

    As for Rachel's situation having anything to do with those of us, both heterosexual and not, who were born with an anatomy which does not match our genders... it's a pretty difficult argument to make, although perhaps not impossible genetically, that we are born with racial consciousness.
    For one thing there don't seem to be any other examples of her argument or premise other than herself... which greatly increases the chances that her dilemma is subjective rather than objective.
    And it is difficult to watch Rachel fail so completely to support her argument at all... as she has no science of any kind to fall back on which isn't pathological.

  • @ScinLaeca358
    @ScinLaeca358 9 років тому

    Ya know...look. This chick clearly has some issues. I can't defend the lying and evading...BUT...just in terms of a person identifying with another race, we've probably all seen examples of this to a greater or lesser extent, and I don't see why it's a big deal. Actually lying about your own race is stupid because you can't possibly keep it up; you're going to be outed and you have to know that, so it must be a neurotic thing. But as far as I'm concerned, you can "identify" however you want if it doesn't hurt anybody else.
    I'd been thinking about this myself in comparison with Caitlyn Jenner - because as weird as that is to me, I can't understand why people get ENRAGED over it, other than that they consider it an extension of the insane hatred that they've given themselves free reign to direct at gay people. The weird response to Dolezal from certain "conservative" corners (Limbaugh etc) was similar and clearly based on good old fashioned racism. We can all agree she's a liar and has problems, but she drove these people nuts because they're NOT what you would call philo-African...lol.
    Again, hate Caitlyn Jenner because of her affiliation with the Kardashians - that's TOTALLY rational and justifiable. But I don't give a fuck that Bruce Jenner became a woman - it certainly doesn't piss me off...lol. I'll even call her "her," because it's no skin off my ass (so to speak). And insofar as Dolezal identifies with and feels at home in black culture, and nobody's being wronged, then fine. I only get morally enraged at things that are actually morally wrong.

    i think that transracial has nothing to do with being transgender, it is like a book, race is just the cover of it ,something meaningless, but the content of the book , what is inside of it, what really gives meaning to a book, that is being a transgender. I think this woman is pointing race in a very damaging direction, like it is something that comes from within, related to your feelings , thoughts, believes, intelligence, etc, and that is highly racist, a person of color can feel and think the same way as a white person, we should not give impontance to race or skin color, cause when ppl started doing so in the past , racisim begun as a result of believing that ppl of color had differents feelings and emotions, and that is exactly what this woman is doing

      If feelings can determine your gender why not race? If feelings can trump your sexual biology why not your racial biology?
