  • Rachel Dolezal misled people for years into thinking that she was black; but when it was revealed recently that she was a white woman who had fabricated details of her past, it led to a social media explosion with jokes, discussions about being "transracial," fascination, and anger. But who is Rachel? How did she go from being a blonde white woman from Montana to being a black woman leading her local chapter of the NAACP? A timeline of her life reveals a history of an artist and the elaborate identity she created for herself.

Personally I still don't see how this is different from transgender. I guess we will have to wait another 20 years and more transracial people will come out

    I am 100% all for equal rights for everyone, but there are two parts of this story that just don't make this add up. For one, she only truly came out to be "trans-racial" or admittedly black on the inside after being exposed, which can easily be seen as a cover. In addition, people continually compare this to being transgender, but it is not in any way the same thing. There is a large difference between identifying with the black community and being more of a part of that community, and claiming to identify as a race one does not have the capacity to identify as. Should there be scientific evidence of some form truly backing up that being trans racial is a legitimate concept, I would gladly shift my opinions.

    When asked in another interview are you white and her comment is “I am definitely not white” and she says it with the undertone of how dare you ask if I am white. And that it is a bad thing to be white.
    If she thinks being white is such a bad thing, that’s fine. She can be whatever she thinks she is. Also she stated in another interview that she is bisexual. This woman really has her head on backwards.
    I want to know where is her husband and what does he think. She is really playing the black female role. Several children and the father/dad is no where to be found...

    • @14598175
      @14598175 7 років тому +8

      IT IS THE SAME THING. The madness if pretending otherwise. In fact, look at the numbers of differences.
      male vs female: Breasts, genitals, hips, uterus, testosterone/estrogen levels, muscle mass, BMI, etc, etc, etc.
      color vs caucasian: Melanin
      ..so the one with the LEAST amount of difference is bad?? What happened to liberals saying we're all the same?

    • @marcelmagi4600

      I think you missed my point. I'm not arguing for "transracial" per se. I'm simply pointing out the hypocrisy to accept "transgender" but not "transracial". Scientifically, gender is far more science-based than race, which is a genuine social construct.

    Something must have happened to Dolezal in her youth to make her identify as being a different race than she is. I don’t think her deception was meant to be malicious, I think she really wanted to be Black. The problem is that she can tan, apply makeup and a hair style to appear Black, but she can always undo it if she doesn’t like how the public treats her. This is not an option for Black people.
    I think she does like Black people and culture, there is nothing wrong with that and there are ways that she can help and participate even though she is White. I have two nieces who have mostly Black friends and my nieces are accepted as close friends. Just be truthful about yourself, show that you care and be a friend.

    I think that she did something wrong with not telling the truth about her race. It is false to get benefits, that are especially for one ethnic group (like a scholarship for an African-American), when you truly do NOT belong to that ethnic group. Identifying with a cultural background, does not change your ethnic background.
    One thing I really want, is that everyone on this planet can live without any racial discrimination. We may be different ethnically, but we're all human. It's important that we all learn to accept each other and to live with each other instead of fighting against each other or trying to lie to each other. Lies are the first step to violence. People that are telling lies and are trying to brainwash others to believe their lies, are sick people that need to learn more about humanity.

      It's not the point that people are telling her how to live her life. The point is that she lied.....she lied for years about who she really was and is. She was White when it was good for her to be White (back in college), and then becomes Black when she sees there are benefits to be had. She has been interviewed 100's of times by now, and everyone has asked her why she couldn't just be honest about it and admit she was White but identified as being Black. She even lied about who her father was. She does a lot of double-talk, like a used car salesman. If you notice, she hates giving straight answers. If you ask her what time it is, she'll go 'round and 'round with a lot of bullshit jargon and jibberish, because she's a liar and doesn't want to tell the truth. Look at how she couldn't even answer the simple question "are you African American?". I think she's a sociopath, and she disgusts me. The Black people at my company where I work, think she's garbage and they can't stand her. If she originally said (years ago), "I am White, but I identify with being Black.....I live a Black woman's life, I associate with being Black.....my whole life is that of a Black woman", then she would have probably been labeled by some as a nut, but at least she would've been honest about it. But she lied, saying she was a Black woman who was born to a White woman and a Black father.
      All lies.......all bullshit.

    • @thechefmasterful

      Corrin Shaw Excuse me but white people can not suffer from racism. White people can only suffer from prejudice. Racism exists when prejudice and power combine to form social constructs, legislation, and widespread media bias that contribute to the oppression of the rights and liberties of a group of people. Racism is systematic and institutional and because white culture is the dominant culture in the USA and a lot of other places "reverse racism" or racism against white people does not exist. The next reason why your argument makes no sense. Transgender means that you feel that your outward appearance and gender does not agree with the gender you believe that you are. This is a BIOLOGICAL disagreement between the brain and the body. This BS "Transracial" claim is ridiculous because race is not a biological factor. Your race is not hardwired into your brain. Race is entirely a social construct, it was created to distinguish and ultimately create a hierarchy where one race is higher than the other. You're not born with a black brain or a white brain. It is cultural experiences learned after birth which create the differences between other races, besides the obvious outwardly different physical characteristics. In proper usage "Transracial" has to do with the adoption of children whose race differs from yours. Whether what rachel did was right or wrong i can't say because i don't know and i don't necessarily feel it's my place to have an opinion on how her actions affect a group of people i do not belong to.

      okaii well that was a load of bolocks. tbh youve just been racist there towards white people. racism is where you offend or upset a certain race. white poeple are a race. same as black people are a race. same as chinese people are a race. same as muslims are a race. same as christians are a race.! and i feel that if she truly believes that she was supposed to be black that should be accepted. it probabbly has something to do with all her family being black that she identifys with that more because she has experience with that. i think its parshaly biological and parshially learnt. also i know she will always be white down under, same as transgender people will still always be a certain gender down under. you cant biologically change that but you can physically and mentally change that. i do agree with you to some extent so lets just leave it at this. agree to disagree?

    0:00 - Technically, she told the truth, because the origin of all humans began on the continent of Africa. She should have just stuck to that fact.
    Black people (women specifically) seemed far more fascinated with her, accepting of her, and eager to be seen in photos with her when they thought she was a "black" woman that looked white. GO FIGURE!
    WHAT'S MORE? I find it strange that people are more accepting and supportive of a man who says he identifies as a woman, dresses up as a woman, wears women's make-up, unfairly competes in women's sports, and wants to use the women's public restroom, but people are outraged by a white woman who identifies as a black woman and looks a hell of a lot better as a white woman with tan skin and braided hair than both your average white and black woman.

She should of been straight with everyone in the beginning. I disagree with her lying but I support someone who thinks they were born the wrong color or sex. This is no different from a transgender person. And I also want to point out that Michael Jackson changed the color of his skin, of course he didn't lie about it and steal money from the government, so we shouldn't judge her to harshly. She made a mistake, which at the time she thought was the right thing to do.

    I think she is very inconsiderate and selfish to get upset bc they took away her scholarship. You lied about being black. Those scholarship are meant to give black students an oppuntintiy at life. Something that was held back from us for so many years. HBCU were made to give black community higher education than what we were allowed to have. So of course you can not have the scholarship sweetie. She needs to have several seats and reevaluate herself and her identity.

    I have compassion, empathy and some admiration for her and I hope her children don’t suffer and if they are then it ceases. If she can live with the lying to herself then that’s up to her and if she generally feels that like trans people she is stuck in a body that she feels isn’t her then let her have that. I recently watched her documentary on Netflix and she is a very talented lady. I don’t like to see people being unhappy or suffering especially the children.

      genuine question, how do you “feel” like you should be a certain color? i understand being trans because it makes sense to feel like a female inside a males body, but how would you feel that way about color of skin? she should be proud of her race not try to be a different one

    I admire her as I believe she should be admired. She has done a lot for the Black community but I think she has a dissociative identity disorder which has no cure. For the matter there is no cure to gender incongruence such as with what I suffer from as a trans woman. There is no cure for this either but one can learn to live with it. I come from a dysfunctional and emotionally starving family so in a way I can relate to what has happened to her mentally. She says that race is not very biological. I think we know that it is, however, how much of it is biological and how much is cultural? I think this is the real question! How much of a woman am I for the matter even though I am not continuously attacked for saying that I am? I am legally female here in California and I do not see why one cannot be legally black even though one may have White parents!

  • @kiki-lp7zj

    In my opinion, transracial is not really a thing. Changing your skin colour is something that is not really necessary and is honestly a bit offensive to the black community. You can wear your hair or live in "african-american culture", but skin pigment is something you can not change and is something you are stuck with.
    On the other hand, transgender and transracial are not really comparable. The desire to be another gender is not the same as race as race is something you cannot change.

    How can she identify as black when she was born white, her skin pigment is lighter or white and how can she identify as african american when she doesnt have family ties that are african or african american. One comment said she should say 'i was born white but identify as black' and i think that would kind of be a good middle ground.

    This is a huge dent in the lgbt community. I've already heard people say how this is connected to transgender. They say that this basically proves the transgendered are fake. I don't know how I feel about this, it's not that I wouldn't support anyone that thinks they are "transracial" but I don't if she specifically is a telling the whole truth about her life. It just seems like an attention think. I don't know though, I'm not her, so I don't judge her for what she's doing. If anyone thinks I'm against lgbt I'm not, I'm gay myself so I don't want to hear it.

    • @aly748
      @aly748 9 років тому

      It's not connected to being transgender at all. It's being transracial. Just like being gay isn't the same as being trans.

    • @Fainora

      ThePackapunchmaster transracial doesn't exist. gender exists in the brain gender expression is how we dress etc..
      Bio female people can be transmen, bio male can be trans women etc...
      this works one way and one way only, white people can decide they want to steal another identity and can do it.
      However try seeing if a black women throws on some pale face powder and see if people accept her.
      Hell even biracial people who are literally half or more white get told all the time by white people how not white they are.
      Just look at president Obama, his mother is white and he was raised by his white grandparents and all people will ever see when they look at him is black.

    • @SkillfulSinner
      @SkillfulSinner 9 років тому

      Fainora Alyssa Swift I know that transracial isn't connected to transgender. But you really think transphopia people know that, or that they care? I know people will pair them together only because people are using trans in this situation.
