The interviewer was highly insensitive and disrespectful to present her with that in the way he did. When she said "yes, that's my dad," and he had to ask her again..." his tone was that of mockery. Whether or not he is her biological father, the fact that he brought a picture and challenged her answer to his question was a bit disgusting. She identifies with black culture and has at least a mentor or mentors who are black. I don't know who the actually guy was but she was married to a black man so he could very well be her father in law who she may have been close with. Her children (adopted) are also black. She lives and breaths black culture. She's not pretending, she lives it. She isn't crazy for it no more than white boys who love Japanese culture and anime are.

I see your point Dana. I think that her charade was due to deep psychological wounds. I was just watching a past interview and she said that her parents were abusive to her and her adopted (black) siblings. Eventually she was assigned as the sibling's guardian because he said that her home was more culturally aware (or something to that effect). I think that is partly why she claimed to be black: to distance herself from her parents and become closer to her siblings. I do think she would have been accepted in the black community because its certainly be done before. All in all i don't think she meant any harm. But now this is overshadowing the excellent work that she has done for the black community because she was dishonest and that's unfortunate
