The reason you have no trouble with LDV is because they’ve already lost a court case in Queensland over exactly the same issue of rust. Now that a ruling has been made it’s easy to get refunds. The guy who took them to court got shafted by LDV for months.
Let's face it, Aussie cars were crap. People just trying to remember the good ol days but they weren't actually good! Japanese cars kill everything else.
The smash repairs that my wife worked for, had a contract with the local Chinese vehicle dealer. As soon as the vehicles came off the ship, they went straight to the smash repairer to have the rust cut out and the panels refitted as they couldn't even handle the journey to be delivered.
Bought a used 10 year old hilux diesel 2wd for $9500 five years ago. It's now worth about $15,000. I have put another 160,000km on it with zero problems. It goes 700km on 60 litres of fuel regardless of how you drive it. Plenty of power, comfort, with Toyota build quality. What's not to like? Why would anyone buy Chinese?
thing is you can only fit 0.5 in a xr6 , and cant tow the full 3.5t most tradies would need like excavators etc. If you do work you need a truck, iv got Isuzu 450 tipper tuned, it beats diesel dual cabs off the lights while carrying 4t in the tray and towing a 3t excavator, Plus with the height and wheel size can drive straight up kerbs and park wherever you need. Uses less fuel than a ranger too. a trip that cost 900 diesel in my ranger cost 600 in the truck fully loaded, and felt like i was driving my lounge room around , so comfy
@@sonofdati agree, i run a truck daily and i cant even tell when iv got a 3.5 trailer on plus can put 4.5 in the tray, but most dual cabs are rated to tow 3.5 and can handle it allot better than a falcon ute. Falcon ute would be dead in 2 months but a diesel dual cab would do it for years still

Most of the time you do , I have a 34 year old Lexus , there’s still no rust to be seen of any consequence, , although the motor is getting a bit tappetty , no complaints for its age though , also have a 7 year old Camry , had to replace the battery on it last year , other than that , it has not seen a spanner put on it for anything but it’s basic yearly service , air con still blows cold , everything still works like the day it came out of the factory. Hi there Mike. I’ve had an absolute nightmare with my LDV T60. it’s a 2022 model model. I’ve had everything from my alternator going six months ago with my car being off the road for 6 to 8 weeks due to not having any spare alternators in the country so luckily I was able to get a higher vehicle, three months to buy my vehicle my drivers seat started fraying and LDV told me it’s normal wear and tear which I fought and they eventually replaced the upholstery months later. It’s fraying again! I bought a manual and my clutch has been nothing but a nightmare with an independent mechanic telling me that there is definitely something wrong with it and the release point was way too low. I mentioned this to LDV who inspected it and said it was normal. The clutches becomes so bad now that I sometimes can’t even get it into reverse or other gears. You pay $45,000 for a new vehicle. You expect a lot more customer service has been pathetic at both dealerships that I’ve taken it to my door handles which are the chrome doorhandles are now flaking and my event control mechanism just fell out. On top of all of that looking under my vehicle, I’ve just noticed rust which brought me to your video. it’s been an emotional rollercoaster over the past two years and almost had me giving up. I appreciate your video and any advice for me would be helpful thank you Chris.
& now after years of complaining there’s an issue with my clutch. The issue has becoming incredibly worse with now not being able to get into certain gears being a manual car. Took to LDV dealership, LDV Australia gave me a loan car, and had a phone call from LDV dealership to say LDV Australia want them to open up the gearbox but it will cost me $630!! This I’ll get back if the issue is warrantable. a day later I get a call from the dealership saying the issue after inspection and speaking with LDV warranty team Australia have come to the conclusion that it is wearing and tear and to get it fixed will cost me $5500!! DO NOT BUY AN LDV T60 Ute!! I am now going to VCAT

My mate bought a trail-rider new about 5 months ago, touch-wood he hasnt had any major problems. The Hazard lights didnt work from new, And the bolts for the left hand mirror had come loose after about 3 weeks of owning it. Had to pull the internal cover off and tighten them up... Dont know how there stuff passes quality checks.
I purchased one late last September had to wait a couple weeks to get bullbar , toebar, & soft cover for tub etc. Long story short hit a kangaroo on way home from work damage pretty minimal panel beaters still waiting on parts to come 9 months later and of all things a seatbelt is what’s currently holding things up. Has been a great inconvenience for me and my family as me and my finance do shift work and live over 10km out of town.
Very similar to me. I bought a new one in 2022. Hit a huge roo 6 weeks later. One year later still could not get the parts to have it repaired. Turns out they forgot to order the parts the company is so incompetent. Ended up being paid out by insurance after they gave a me a loan car the whole time waiting and buying a Toyota. So many cheap annoying things with the LDV can't even use android auto.
I brought a 2020 LDV T60 new now done over 90,000 done all regular services, still going strong plenty of room, value for the money, eats fords for breakfast.
They sell those LDV’s in NZ, ( of course) I can’t drive the LDV 10 seat mini van, because the auto gear box is weird. I had to move one once, and was terrified it might loose control before I could get the hang of it. Another co-worker dented it returning it to shed where it is kept. I’ve never heard a diesel engine sound like that! Have driven several types of Hiace vans over hundreds of thousands of km’s both petrol and diesel types. Had a puncture in one once, but that’s something that can happen. Thrash them and they just get up and keep going. Just service them correctly, and the’ll keep going…and going. For reliability they leave everything else in the dust!
A fellow I know swears by a particular brand of TV , that has a 12 month warranty. He has bought 3 sets in 3 years , as they always stop working just out of warranty. When I asked why does he do it , he replied that they are "cheaper" than the big brand sets......?
Regarding the plasticky tailgate panel, I’m assuming it is more durable and cheaper to replace than an all metal panel. Think about how many tradie utes do you see with dented tailgates? And they’re not cheap or easily replaced. Plastic insert panel will take a beating, is light weight to remove, post and replace. I think it’s a great addition myself. 🤷♂️
I appreciate the video, I just can’t fathom who’s deluded enough to buy this crap in the first place… I would be less embarrassed driving an automatic, 1986 Mitsubishi Sigma to pick up Scarlett Johansson for a date, than driving an LDV 😂
What happens to the LDV that they took back and refunded , Do they sell it as a used car ? Should LDV adjust the refund for inflation to give you the same buying power ? Have you looked on the rego check app to see if the returned vehicle in still current as that might indicate if someone else is driving it now
I’m looking for Utes for work. Would you recommend one model 2021?? Would this be worth it?? I don’t have the cash for a hilux and this Ute is within my budget
Honestly mate, we have 4 of them - if I needed a work Ute and didn’t want to spend 80-90k I would look at the LDV T60 or GWM Cannon. Both have excellent bang for buck.
Ldv and cannon utes very popular with tradies here in Canberra. Seems like you get good quality at a lower price. Most people r waking up realising you don't need to spend 70k - 100k for a dual cab.
I would have no problem buying an LDV, I had one in the 1970's in England, it was brilliant. By the way LDV means Leyland Daf Van/ British Dutch collaboration and later bought out by a Chinese company.
It’s all good for someone to suggest that you purchase a certain make/ model of vehicle. It’s another thing for you to allow that purchase into your budget. Like Mike said though, depends on what you want to get from the performance of a certain vehicle. Economy, reliability, durability, comfort or affordability 🤷♂️ No simple answers if you’re not in the position to get all the requirements in one vehicle.
I currently have a 2020 T60 Trailrider 2 & am so over it, I regret buying it. Going through multiple warranty issues with my dealer now, I am hoping for the buyback option.
I think you nailed it for the price you paid it looks a good option , my concern with the LDV was the 2 litre bi turbo that produces 160kw and 500 Nm of torque.. a big ask from a small engine and some people are also saying the same of the 2 lt bi-turbo Ford Rangers..time will tell If you drive it sensible it should be good but if you push it hard regularly time will tell.
I own an older LDV t60. Nothing wrong with it for 30k. Has a detroit locker stock from factory. Put decent tyres on it and went up around Dargo with it. Can't really fault it for 30k.
My mate over here in New Zealand had the T60 for about 3 years before trading it for the D90. As far as a vehicle for commuting and hauling your tools ect, it had minimal issues.
G'Day Mike, Yes mate we bought a 2018 LDV T60 second hand 12 months old. We thought we bought a bargain until the rust appeared. We took it back to the dealer and traded it for a Mitsubishi Outlander 2018 but we lost money on the deal. Thanks for your review. Cheers Kev
This is the challenge, its either an LDV, Cannon or Musso for under 40 or Navara, Ranger, Hilux upto 80k. Find out what works for you and whats important for you- if resale is important or low entry costs.
I would go Musso. SsangYong has been plugging away in the market here for over 20 years and their current utes look pretty good. Don't think it's going to be rusty in three years.
Bought a T60 dual cab manual 4WD Diesel for our emergency services unit back in early 2019.$27000. Been parked outside ever since only 3km from the beach. Had 30 or 40 different drivers over the years. Never missed a beat. No rust. Much better than the junk DMax provided in 2022 by the Government department.
People can buy whatever their budget allows and shouldn’t be run down for buying an LDV I bought a second hand 2016 Dmax for about the same price as a new LDV. Had Bullbar light bar uhf etc etc and had done 190 k now up to 290 k no problems. Personally I think this was a better way to go
I used to work as a delivery driver for a wine company. I desperately tried to get them to get them to switch from the VW Transporter (Not a bad van, but the Bluetooth went on it and it was just getting old) to a Toyota HiAce. Keeping in mind that the idiots who had the final say in the purchases NEVER did deliveries or had experience in the places we delivered to. They got some crappy LDV van (Because it could carry more weight and had dual side doors). What an absolute pile. I used it once and that was it. It had no redeeming qualities. From that point on I swore I'd never get an LDV
The old saying you get what you pay for, rings true with these Chinese junk vehicles, you'll be spending more time trying to get ongoing faults fixed, than you'll ever spend driving it!!
Mike You were similar to the other person with the ldv that had the ute parked at the Surfers Paradise surf club and the undercarriage rusted out. Off course not cause you mentioned your from North Qld . Sounds to me Ldv isn't made for coastal areas
haha shouldve gotten a hilux mate. Chinese shitboxes have a long way to go before they hit acceptable quality standards like the Koreans did. They made shitboxes till they got it right and make quality vehicles today.
Rust was a big issue in previous models but ldv are good about it in most ways most of the tech they use is from Audi if ldv can build a ute at that price why can't leading brands do it the tech is cheap now and what I'm saying is when I was in Philippines you could buy a 21 Hilux new in the conquest version for 35 k Australian why does it cost so much for other brands when ldv are smashing the market in price is buy an ldv and trade that fucker in every three years does the same job as other brands
I'd rather spend money on my TD42 duel cab Gq Patrol then buy anything new and I'm a qualified motor mechanic of 28yrs i hate all new vehicles of today.

As far as I'm concerned all these are good for is someone that wants to have an entry level 4x4 but still get all the new car experience...basically a try before you buy and commit to the real thing....I practice this when I'm curious or want to see the hype of certain products I buy cheap china product if it does all that I need I payed bugger all for it... if it's a product I like and use and the cheap version doesn't cut the mustard ill go and pay for a better quality version of the same product....china crap is a try before you buy...if that's how you treat it you won't get hurt when things go poopy...basically if I want to try something but don't want to commit paying for quality I'll get Chinese knock off...sometimes I find I don't like it use it or need it it's not a lose....I do have to say that is excellent LDV honouring warranty issue and go as far as buying the vehicle back at same value...now you get 7yrs warranty too, that's pretty confidence inspiring even I would be tempted to dance the risk
Thought I do a update on my son's he doesn't have to blow the horn now they want and fixed the problem he now has to push the foot brake to turn it on.

Now that a ruling has been made it’s easy to get refunds.

Let's face it. All dual cab utes suck. The Cab is too big and the trays too small. I'm keeping my xr6 ute forever!. A propper AUSSIE Ute! Yessss!
I'm keeping my holden ute
thing is you can only fit 0.5 in a xr6 , and cant tow the full 3.5t most tradies would need like excavators etc.
Falcon ute would be dead in 2 months but a diesel dual cab would do it for years still
@oudonbail I never said anything about trying to tow 3.5 tonnes with my falcon ute. You said that! And dont need too. I don't understand your comparison. I still think dual cab utes suck and I'm still keeping my xr6 ute.

If I had to replace a 3 year old car for rust reasons , that would be the first and last time I would be buying from that manufacturer.

Black plastic profiles are much easier and cheaper to manufacture, and they make 'styling' changes to ageing body styles easier and cheaper.
