      @gratefulMOMent Місяць тому

      @@cruz1742 hi! I did not build a raised bed for my garden. I plant in-ground. Look up Charles Dowding no dig method.
      This is how I got started. I put cardboard over my grass, got it wet, then I spread 2 feet of freshly cut woodchips over top. (Talk to a local arborist to get some delivered). Over the wood chips, I dug 18” deep rows & filled in with free compost from my city. Then I planted in the compost. In the fall I cover completely with at least 1foot deep of leaves from my neighbor’s trees. 💚

    Useful information and great video, thank you. I usually plant in October (I'm in west Japan, more or less Zone 9) and reckon to harvest about the end of April with 4 dead leaves. I don't have as much garden space as before so have to plan carefully and will follow the garlic with sweetcorn making sure to leave the cut off garlic roots in the soil, never done that before.

    I'm glad you posted this video. I was walking by my garlic here in Zone 7, and I noticed how brown and dry the bottom leaves were. I felt very unsure of myself, but I decided to harvest the browning garlic. I'm glad I did because 2 bulbs had already lost too much of the wrapper, exposing the cloves. It seems very early to be harvesting garlic. Last year, my garlic was ready around May 25, not May 1. 20:41

    I watched a lot of videos on garlic before planting mine for the first time in October. Have a lot of it and shallots in two beds and watched a lot more videos more recently contemplating whether it’s ready to harvest yet not wanting to be too soon or too late. Thank you for sharing your experience and lessons with us! I think it’s likely now ready, tips on all have started dying back and at least two bottom leaves have died back. Thanks for pointing out the first may have disintegrated by the time the third dies because I think that’s likely happened on mine. But, I’ll know for sure now just brushing the soil away tomorrow to check what’s going on under the ground and pull them confidently when I know they’re ready thanks to your video. Thanks again, Sir! Peace and Blessings to you too!

    • @humbleservantshomestead7974
      @humbleservantshomestead7974  Рік тому +1

      We are not because the hay we use has not been sprayed with grazon! That's why it's important to know your local farmer and build relationships. We dont have a grazon issue here. Also if you look back at our videos our crops grow beautifully every season without issues. We would never feed our animals feed that has been sprayed because WE also eat the animals that we raise.

      @@DeloressGarden what time of year did you plant them? We can plant garlic anytime between fall and winter as long as the ground is workable(not frozen). Even in winter, if there is a break in the weather to work the ground then go for it. Just remember to fertilize them because the love nitrogen. We use a lot of manure from our animals when we plant for this reason. It's high in nitrogen. We did a video last year on fertilizing garlic with store bought fertilizer as well.
