  • In this video, we are harvesting our Garlic and Elephant Garlic and also sharing what we do after harvest to dry and store our Garlic to Make it last a whole year. I'm still using Elephant Garlic from last years harvest which is now over a year old, so hopefully the methods we use can help you be self sufficient in garlic for the whole year too.

    All you gotta do is replant the rounds and next year you will have regular bulbs ❤️❤️❤️

      Yeah great advice - I did a trial on this one year, as I read if you planted the rounds youd get a MASSIVE bulb the following year - how have you found them size wise? ... They did form up good for me, but they weren't as big as I hoped 😆 you can see it in this video here if you'd like 👉 ua-cam.com/video/q2rPPRtJ2Vw/v-deo.html

    Interesting that many of your elephant garlic came out as rounds. All of mine except for one is round. All my French garlic have good splits.

    Sooooo much Garlic!!! Any advice on varieties?

    • @freedomforestlife
      @freedomforestlife  2 роки тому +1

      HI Gawain ... yep ... we LOVE our garlic !!! .... My favourite variety is defo the Elephant Garlic (although its actually more of a leek I believe) its just the best. But I do love growing a strong french or european variety always too. I got my original seed garlic for both from the Isle of wight garlic farm, they do some cool varieties depending on your taste ,... I also favour growing hard neck varieties ... they are hardier and you get a double harvest by way of their scapes, before the bulbs are ready ✌️🌿

      @@freedomforestlife yup, totally with you on this, I’m excited to grow hard neck, although I will grow some soft neck too because I hear it stores better?
      I was wondering if you had any thoughts on particular varieties that are good for our climate?
      This year I planted garlic in spring and it hasn’t gone so well so am going to go for November!

      Hi Norman, the flower scapes that grow out of the top of hard neck are delicious... I've never tried using the actually neck though, like a leek, if thats what you mean ... I always save mine as I plait them up together after drying. Nice to hear from you - thanks for watching ✌️🌿
