Jason did some incredible line deliveries throughout the show, but my absolute favorite has to be the scene before this one: "All this time... all this time, Stan had them?! I can't believe it! Was anything he said to us real?! Why would he have those journals?!". It's such a desperate frustration, especially when he kicks the desk right before that last sentence. IKR?and Stan had so much development!!Like in Boss Mabel,Stan hated the word please, but saving his brother meant so much to him,he said "Mabel,Please..'..Gravity falls Rocks!!
A interesting thing to note is that this conflict is Good vs Good, everyone here has good intentions in their own way. Dipper trying to prevent the destruction of the universe, soos trying to protect the kids from grunkle and grunkle trying to bring back his brother. With mabel pretty much in the crossfire.
That shot of mabel taking off her hands in the middle of the portal really is a work of art and it always gives me goosebumps! And her hugging the botton with all her life as well
Dipper “Mabel what if he’s lying? This thing could destroy the Universe! Listen to your head!” Mabel- “Grunkle Stan… I trust you.” Those two lines show the prime difference between Mabel and Dipper. Dipper listens to his head. Mabel listens to her heart.
This scene taught me something very important. All throughout it, I thought Stan would say the words "I'm begging you!". It seems like such an obvious expression anyone would use in a desperate situation like this. After enjoying the scene I began to wonder why the writers didn't have Stan use this phrase. Then I realized...he did "use" it. He was already begging Mabel to not press the button, so he didn't need to state the obvious. And that's when I realized that great writing is having characters say anything but the obvious.
Those two short lines are amazing. Stan knows Mable well enough to ask her that straight up: despite all she's seen today and all the shady business he does, in her heart, is her Grunkle a bad man? And they both knew the answer. I tear up during this scene every time. Its one of the most touching moments of loyalty and faith I've ever seen. She was scared and confused but in her heart she believed that Stan would not do something that would harm her.
Mable knows and trust her family I think that's why she said she trusted him regardless of what she seen and what was happening in that moment it goes to show how much trash she has for them and her gruncle.
@@geordiejones5618 THAT'S literally what i was thinking, you are amazing, you literally put my thoughts in a comment. It was all about faith and trust.
This had to be just the highlight of the incredibleness. Forgot that Disney/Disney XD shit. When I was first watching this, I didn't actually know what Mabel would do.
Same here! For once a show actually had me on the edge of my seat regarding such a decision. Usually shows like these are so predictable. I love Gravity Falls!
@@TiaraClareseI will say not pressing it was less predictable than pressing it. If it's shut down Stan goes to jail maybe, everyone is sad, maybe they find secrets about what he was trying...it's not much really
"I trust you" This scene is so powerful and gut-wrenching for me. Imagine being in her position, and if all this was real, having to choose between these sides. She knew that she could've just killed off the entire world but she still wanted to trust Stan. Like this is a real intriguing scene to me. I love looking at fanart of the "I trust you" moment.
I know the main focus of this scene but i really liked Soos’ development there. He used to follow Stan’s orders unconditionally bc of how long he worked for him and his view of Stan as a father figure; he didn’t even question Stan’s orders to defend the vending machine, but as he grew close to Mabel and Dipper and then saw everything Stan really was lying about and that he was potentially a master criminal who could destroy the universe and Soos ultimately chose where his loyalty really belonged.. You know what i’m saying, Im just really happy for Soos. That quote at 1:20 was so powerful
I was waiting for someone to talk about Soos here. He clearly was also experiencing a lot of emotions right now and his loyalties were challenged. But rather than denying all the seemingly damning evidence about Stan, he chose to protect the kids. He did the right thing, even if it was good the button wasn't pressed in the end.
Love how Dipper and Soos look angry and Mabek just looks more heartbroken than anything. She's always been happy and smiling most of the time, so seeing her actually cry is just heartbreaking.
This is a scene I can't watch without crying. To see Mabel, the biggest bundle of energy and innocence in the whole show, break down in tears and finding herself in a position where she doesn't know what she should do or which voice she should listen to, is heartrending in a way words just can't describe. Each character involved gets a moment. Dipper, the most vocal about his newfound distrust in his own grunkle, in that visceral, betrayed: "I don't even know who you ARE!". Mabel begins crying at this whole situation, and, oh my God, when she says: "I don't even know if you're my grunkle! I want to believe you, but...!", you begin crying as well. This poor kid is finding herself torn between logic and feeling, every move could be the last. Even goofy ol' Soos gets a moment of his own when he's willing to fight the man who has been a fatherly figure to him to protect the twins. But the gut-punch comes with Stan. Even worse with what we find out about him in the following episode. The heartbreak in his voice and face when he asks Mabel: "You really think I'm a bad guy?!" is on par with Simba crying for help next to Mufasa's body in terms of sheer emotional weight. He already went through the heartache of being treated as if he *was* the bad guy, and before meeting the twins, he was pretty much ALONE. He had NOTHING and NO ONE. The life he knew was but a fading memory, the brother he once was close-knit to now utterly despises him and when he brings him back he doesn't even bother thanking him. And now, he's genuinely fearing that history is repeating itself, that it will happen all over again and that he'll go back to being utterly, hopelessly alone. 'You really think I'm a bad guy?!", just wtiting this line down is enough for me to cry a river. Dipper & Mabel are all he has left, and now, he's on the verge of losing THEM too and being left with nothing and no one. It's a gut-punch at its finest.
No matter how many times I watch this scene I always get chills when Mabel lets go. One of the most powerful moments I've ever seen in any television show. They wrote and edited it perfectly and credit to the actress as well.
If you watch the DVD commentaries for the show, Alex Hirsch occasionally mentions how he feels like a bad voice actor, but the delivery on Stan's "You really think I'm a bad guy?" 2:00 is fucking killer. Stan doesn't have the time to explain his reasoning here and just goes straight for the feelings, and its heartbreaking watching him plead to Mabel that his love for them this whole summer was genuine.
Every show that ends on its own terms has a moment that perfectly sets the ball rolling towards its conclusion. For Avatar, it was the Day of Black Sun and Zuko becoming a good guy. For Adventure Time, it was the introduction of Fern and the Islands/Elements miniseries. For Gravity Falls, it was Not What He Seems and the introduction of Ford. Three perfect examples of shows heading into the final stretch.
the animation, the voice acting and the background music all together make this scene so terrific. and I never even watched the show, a friend of mine showed me this
You know what's perfect about this? When I watched gravity falls when I was younger right when the clock hit 00:00, the parental lock on the TV activated, and it really just added to the moment when I watched it for the first time.
"Do you really think I'm a bad guy?!" Mabel: Well, there was the time you had us all paint counterfeit money and got me arrested, numerous counts of theft and vandalism, including stealing radioactive waste from the US government... Stan: That last one was for a good cause!
Everyone's talking about the trust Mabel has for Stanley, but I just wanna appreciate how protective Soos was for the kids He shows how important they mean to him, since they did help him with his Birthday situation
I always get chills at the part where Mabel says ‘I trust you’ and let’s go. The music the way it stops and starts and ugh everything about it is so suspenseful!!
And this was the moment I realized just how deep I was into loving this show. The emotion in every character in this scene, and the tension, and the fact that I couldn't tell what was going to happen...!! This is why Gravity Falls is the greatest thing ever.
Out of all of Gravity Falls this was the best scenes this was my favourite one because Mabel actually shows how much she cares for everyone around her and how she still tries to trust Grunkle Stan on whether he's lying to them or not. Not only has Mabel shown her true personality but also because we finally get to see a character who's not just a side character who only has one emotion. I really thank Gravity Falls for this scene and wish that this series could go on for longer
This has got to be one of the most dramatic moments in the show. I sit here saying every word to this when it's on. I say it at the same time as everyone in the show. I memorised this immediately. Really good point in the show.
Something that I never noticed was brilliant about this scene is that while Stan could have gone into detail and revealed his past an episode early to Dipper, it still wouldn’t have changed the situation. Dipper still would have had to trust him that the Tale of Two Stans was the truth which would be hard for Dipper because he is already so paranoid and has already came to his conclusion based on the facts, and as much as he may love Stan he knows that Stan is nothing if not a professional con artist known for lying and he was lying about the waste and the secret lab and even lied about how much he’s known about Gravity Falls, making any excuse Stan could give highly speculative at best. Not to mention that the book literally spells out that if the machine is activated the world will end and so even if Stan’s excuse seemed believable, for Dipper the stakes are literally life and death with not just his life but every person in the world’s life at stake and thus it’s a lot to ask for Dipper to hinge the fate of the world on the slight chance this professional con artist is actually telling the truth. The writers really did a good job putting the audience and these characters in such a difficult spot where it really is just a matter of trust whether to believe Stan, and where no answer he could give these kids would help even if the countdown wasn’t almost out and he had time to explain. It’s really a testament to the creators and writers who brought this to life
No he didn't, the journal literally said it could destroy the universe. It never lied to him before so why would it lie to him now. He reads that thing like a bible.
Dipper didn't know a thing. Nobody did for the longest time. Stan was secretive for years and years, then "the truth" came out in the most suspicious way possible for him. The twins were only trying to follow what they knew (Dipper, Especially!) and a common theme of the episode was: "he was a Grunkle by day and con-man by night".
i cry everytime i watch this lol. the idea of grunkle stan being seen as some evil criminal mastermind by his own family when he's trying to save another family member is heartwrenching.
Tbh I feel like Soos doesn’t get enough respect for this. Once he learned the truth, he decided to protect Mabel and Dipper, from the person who to him was a father figure for so long!
Some people get mad at Mabel for trusting Stan, surprisingly. It's really a stalemate moment, imo, but here's my defense for Mabel: Stan might not be a good person, but he's not screwed up. Why would he want to end the whole world? What's the benefit? Even if it did end the world, deep down I'd believe it was an accident. It's just weird, even for him. Stan may be a routine liar, but he also has the capacity for telling unrelenting truths. _"You're gonna hear some bad things about me... and some of them are true!"_
I mean, would you have had the same lucidity to choose if you were her? Someone she loves has activated something, while with good intentions, who could spell the end of the world. Dipper, representing her logic, tells her to push the botton. Stan, representing her heart, tells her to trust him. But after finding out so much about him... should she?
Honestly I would have been pissed off if she did. Even if we never found out the author was in there, I still wanted to find out what would happen if it stayed on.
I mean, I think it's messed up that she has to CHOOSE between two people she loves. I also feel like she didn't realize the gravity of the situation because she was a kid. She wasn't choosing to put distrust in Dipper. She was choosing to trust Stan. Honestly, I could easily see kid me doing stuff like this, especially if I'm choosing over an adult. And even if the outcome will be bad. Kids trust people who have the potential to hurt them, despite others warnings. But I wouldn't get mad at the kid for that
This scene was scary, and emotional, and the moment where Mabel let go off the button and said "Grunkle Stan ...I trust you" really shows how the connection she has with Stan is way deeper than it could have been
@@matilderosado5309 Exactly And keep denying how she fixed her mistakes and became better! Like when they say "oh she kept several times as her own Slaves". Yes that was selfish of her but they talk like she didn't apologize to candy and Grenada and did the right thing by releasing the boy band.

And her hugging the botton with all her life as well
1:33 Everybody was shocked when the saw Mabel‘s tears. Mabel doesn‘t cry usually, it‘s something pretty rare to see her like that.
Me: has already seen this episode a few times, so I already know what's gonna happen.
Also me: squeals in excitement anyway.
Gets me every time, even if I have seen this series 100 times =]
Can you tell me please?
@@yuukami8360 No.
Dipper “Mabel what if he’s lying? This thing could destroy the Universe! Listen to your head!”
Mabel- “Grunkle Stan… I trust you.”
Those two lines show the prime difference between Mabel and Dipper. Dipper listens to his head. Mabel listens to her heart.
It was the same thing with Stanley and Stanford, Stanley would listen to his heart and Ford would listen to his head
Nah stan listens to his pocket change😂@@luckybella26
This scene taught me something very important.
All throughout it, I thought Stan would say the words "I'm begging you!".
It seems like such an obvious expression anyone would use in a desperate situation like this.
After enjoying the scene I began to wonder why the writers didn't have Stan use this phrase.
Then I realized...he did "use" it. He was already begging Mabel to not press the button, so he didn't need to state the obvious.
And that's when I realized that great writing is having characters say anything but the obvious.
He did say "Please", a word that he himself has stated that he hates using. Mabel realized he was being very, very serious
Stan’s very is a very obvious implying of Begging
“Grunkle stan … I trust you” still brings me chills
fr..
She and Stan were more alike, similar to how Dipper and Ford were more alike.
"Look into my eyes mabel, do you really think im a bad guy??" "Grunkle stan.. I trust you.."
“Mabel are you crazy? We’re all gonna- nooo!”
"I trust you"
This scene is so powerful and gut-wrenching for me.
Yes he had such a good development
“Soos, you idiot let me go!!!!”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was waiting for someone to talk about Soos here. He clearly was also experiencing a lot of emotions right now and his loyalties were challenged. But rather than denying all the seemingly damning evidence about Stan, he chose to protect the kids. He did the right thing, even if it was good the button wasn't pressed in the end.
It's so rare to see a powerful moment through passivity rather than action. I always loved this scene.
Grunkle stan... I trust you.
The feels.
Mabel are you crazy!!!! We’re all gonna/
NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chills
Love how Dipper and Soos look angry and Mabek just looks more heartbroken than anything. She's always been happy and smiling most of the time, so seeing her actually cry is just heartbreaking.
Yes I see it heartbreaking too.
But it really sickens me to find those who keep portraying her as a toxic, terrible sister and she is NOT.
At least now she’s getting more appreciation now that the Book of Bill is out
This is a scene I can't watch without crying.
You just had to be there when Disney Xd was promoting the hell out of this episode the promo was so hype 😭 and the episode lived up to it
You can say that again. I couldn’t sleep at all the night after watching it
GRAVITY FALLS, IT WON'T GIVE YOU FEELS. I REPEAT, GRAVITY FALLS, IT WILL NOT GIVE YOU FEELS.
It gave you feels.

Someone else who has seen that comic.
That part at 2:26 when everyone gets white and stringified was a *REAL* heart stopper when I first watched it
smash ultimate beam
2:27
When she says I trust you it honestly gives me chills everytime
talented voice actor for sure
The way she drifts up with both arms up is just so gorgeous aesthetically-
“I don’t even know if you’re my grunkle” you can hear the tears 😭
This is why I think this is the best episode in the show.
"Gruncle Stan. I trust u."
😭Will forever break me
the animation, the voice acting and the background music all together make this scene so terrific. and I never even watched the show, a friend of mine showed me this
You know what's perfect about this?
When I watched gravity falls when I was younger right when the clock hit 00:00, the parental lock on the TV activated, and it really just added to the moment when I watched it for the first time.
"Do you really think I'm a bad guy?!"
Mabel: Well, there was the time you had us all paint counterfeit money and got me arrested, numerous counts of theft and vandalism, including stealing radioactive waste from the US government...
Stan: That last one was for a good cause!
Yeah hes at least morally gray lol
He isn't morally grayed at all he crosses the line.
Everyone's talking about the trust Mabel has for Stanley, but I just wanna appreciate how protective Soos was for the kids
He shows how important they mean to him, since they did help him with his Birthday situation
stan said please I remember in a episode he said he hates to say please
- Clammy he also can't smile although he smiles in most of the episodes
This scene here proves why Gravity Falls is the best cartoon currently airing. Better than Steven Universe, LPS, and MLP.
I agree. Gravity falls is the best show.
You are the only brony I agree with and like cause let's be real bronys can be annoying.
Sing it to the choir 😊
***** i think SU is better than Gravity falls (and also than MLP,i mean,i like the show, bit, fucking steve)
I'd have to argue with you about steven universe:p
Admit it. You all got choked up when Mabel releases the control saying "Grunkel Stan. I trust you." 😔😪😢😭
I saw an edit of Gravity falls in that moment and that's why I watched the whole show. Banging edit too
"You really think I'm a bad guy?" Gets me every single time
0:47 he so heavy he didnt even float
Lmao
XD
Imagine what happens if Dipper and Mabel came back home and their parents said "So.. how was it?"
Dipper: You.. do not wanna know.
Mabel: IM TRAUMATIZED!! :D
I just heard that one of the possible reasons why Mabel trusted him was because Stan said “please” without being forced to
That trust scene had me feeling so emotional. No episode was as suspenseful as this!
This is one of those "you had to be there" moments in any fandom, everyone were crazy when we saw Ford for the first time
I always get chills at the part where Mabel says ‘I trust you’ and let’s go.
Some guy named Stanison Pineford promised me this show won´t give me feels...
Now i´m confused if it was a sham or not...
It’s the whammy of the future
When I was first watching this, this one moment of her genuinely fixing to hit the button at 1:45 was terrifying me.
This and avatar are my favourite animation series of all time
This has got to be one of the most dramatic moments in the show. I sit here saying every word to this when it's on. I say it at the same time as everyone in the show. I memorised this immediately. Really good point in the show.
You don't have to say show 3 times.
The lighting in this scene and the whole episode is just insane
Imagine for a second, if this is how the series ended!
Nah people would have straight up sued Alex Hirsch😂😂
You know what?? The word "please" really change everything in this scene
Dude the music in this scene is so epic ahhhh
I love Soos. He only knew the twins for like a month at this point, and his is willing to fight the man he sees as his father to protect them
( 0:47 ) I like how he stayed on the ground, and still decided to leave with his car
From the perspective of a first time view , this sounds like the Pines family were all obliterated by the light as the world ended .
This epically blew my mind. I can't wait to see the next ep =)
Same here but now I'm eternally crying.
😭
Star vs. The Outside =)
It’s really a testament to the creators and writers who brought this to life
Yes
But than it wouldn't be sooo cool for us
0:19 Because this is the same man that risked his life fighting off zombies that YOU summoned up maybe? LIke Dipper jumped the gun pretty hard here.
No he didn't, the journal literally said it could destroy the universe.
It never lied to him before so why would it lie to him now. He reads that thing like a bible.
@@hotshotastronaut5443 That's still the man that literally risked his life for him.
Mabel, you did the right thing.
“Look into my eyes mable do you really think I’m a bad guy?!” HOLY SHIT the voice acting is incredible!
This scene gives me goosebumps no matter how many times I watch it, truly a beautiful moment in animated history.
Meanwhile: Ford on the other side tapping his foot as he grumbles under his breath while waiting for it to open
This was the strongest scene in the entire show... AND I LOVE IT
THE best cartoon to ever exist
1:30 freakin killed me when i watched this episode. Mabel on the verge of crying just shattered my heart.
The fact that people get mad at mabel for not pressing the button is so stupid
But I wouldn't get mad at the kid for that
I have never watched anything related to Gravity Falls before, but this gave me goosebumps
