      i was excited for full metal furies back when it first came out but having to pre-arrange with my friends at the time who were not the most understanding of failing in any videogame (as if instant mastery was ever what games were about) kind of made it hard to stick with.
      years later i'm reminded of it, and see it now has lobby support so i feel excited to revisit it! it helps that i've got better friends to convince if the lobbies don't work out, too 😂

      This is 1 of my favourite games and the way you guys pushed the mechanical depth of a 2D action game with the canceling, crits, and unique classes while keeping it accessible was amazing. I really hope some future roguelites/metroidvania's are inspired by the mechanics you guys added, the game feels amazing to play.

    • @mathewhosier9739
      @mathewhosier9739 10 місяців тому

      @@venomousslime6797your kidding right, if the developers put something in the game then it's not cheating by definition, making a game more accessible to more ppl is a good thing, not to mention the system works both ways, it also increases difficulty when it becomes too easy as well, if you dont like it then don't play and move on like what most normal ppl do, instead of crying and whinging about it on UA-cam, don't be so pathetic, it makes you look toxic and salty

    I was so glad when I saw this game wasn't pixel art. I really hope this encourages more indie developers to go for a "high res" style. I also hope it helps more devs realize that any 2D game can benefit from a 3D pipeline.

    • @SK83RJOSH
      @SK83RJOSH Рік тому +3

      Unfortunately, this kind of style is expensive and very time consuming to make at good quality. Which is why low-fi 2D and 3D have and will reign supreme for a long time to come. I personally also would've preferred pixel art in the style of the first game with nice lighting effects over this Spelunky 2 style vector art - but that's just me... 🙂

    • @IanZamojc
      @IanZamojc Рік тому +5

      @@SK83RJOSH Not all hi-res styles have to be expensive or time consuming. The previous game the animator worked on was Lovers in a Dangerous Space-Time, which has a much simpler, yet bold, art style.
      Like the video points out, pixel art often requires a lot _more_ in all but the simplest cases. For example, having to do the same walkcycle from multiple angles in a top-down game. Plus, pixel art has been done to death at this point.

    Might feel like a dumb detail, but I LOVE how you present the zoom calls. Instead of blowing them up full screen where all the nasty video compression would poke our eyes out - you make them small, so that they almost appear professionally shot thanks to the added crispness. Imma steal that approach if I ever need to edit webcam interviews. We see enough of full screen zoom footage every day to last us several lifetimes.

    • @mxusoleum

    Just want to say if anyone from Cellar Door is reading this... Full Metal Furies is one of the best experiences I've had in a game (context I'm middle aged and played since nes). I particularly loved the animation and combat systems, the world felt very novel also. The secret ending and out of the box thinking involved were amazing too.
    I remember in an interview I read it was mentioned an endless/roguelite mode was planned to be added, but it was unfortunately scrapped due to lower sales 😢
    Glad to see you're all still able to do what you love. And this was so interesting to see the beginnings of don't shit your pants, I never knew that!

    The thing that shocked me about RL2 was something I didn't really expected... The story. The characters and The world
    Rogue Legacy 2 has genuinely believable and interesting characters, especially the Estuaries. This game makes you understand and respect your enemy, and that's insane
    P.S: Enoch and Naamah are on the other level. Their story has to be the best and such an emotional one. The world of Rogue Legacy could be an amazing novel, and definitely a very deep one!

Rogue Legacy 2 is an all-timer for me and the best possible evolution of the unforgettable original game. Thanks to the community for playing through early access and helping fine tune this to be one of the most unbelievably balanced and bug free launches I've seen in a modern game in years. I LOVE Rogue Legacy 1 and 2. I was one of the people that picked it up early access, beat what they had out, and said OK I'll come back for release. It's wild seeing how far they came. And until you showed them in succession, I completely always thought RL2 looked just like RL1. It's wild how good it looks in comparison

  • @FabioBrachtPlus
    @FabioBrachtPlus Рік тому +2

    A few scattered notes:
    1. I was very surprised to learn people don't immediately like the Gunslinger class. I honestly like all classes, but I definitely tend to pick the Gunslinger almost every time I can.
    2. The Bard is so cool to play with. It definitely took longer than the other classes to click for me, but I was hooked from the first time I played it, and it's the only one I like better than the Gunslinger. It fundamentally changes how I approach the game, in a much deeper way than any other class. Making it so the notes block projectiles was an ingenious touch. I can't imagine there's anything more awesome in RL2 than a skilled Bard.
    3. I don't know which class is my third favorite. Which is cool. They're all cool. (Perhaps not so much the Cook. It's too slow, and the class Talent doesn't recover as much HP/Mana as it should, at least not from the start.)
    4. I was SHOCKED to learn what almost sunk this game was lack of content, of all things. I know this wasn't at all the case at the start of the Early Access, but there's SO MUCH STUFF in the final release, it's almost hard to imagine anyone thinking there's not enough content.
    5. I didn't remember the first Rogue Legacy's graphics to be so, er… rudimentary. I guess it's true what they said in the documentary about the sequel looking like how you remember the first one to look like. The sequel is so polished, it looks timeless!

  • @FabioBrachtPlus
    @FabioBrachtPlus Рік тому +1

    I loved the first Rogue Legacy back in the day, and I never replayed it, so I jumped immediately into RL2 once the Early Access was opened. I don't remember feeling like there was a lack of content, but I did immediately stop playing it. I wanted to get a feel for the sequel, and that first "feel" was so good that I was immediately like "oh man, this game is gonna be really good. I don't wanna burn myself out on this before its proper release, so I'll just wait". So that's what I did.
    And it was a really great decision, I'd say! I really admire the dedication of people who stick around playing and replaying and giving feedback and being part of the community for a single game - I just know I don't have the persistence for that. I seek novelty to a fault. So, for me, waiting for the full release was great.
    I just got a Steam Deck, and Rogue Legacy 2 is the first game I'm really going deep on it. It's been fantastic!

      I see Dwarf Fortress. I upvote.
      It's truly a piece of gaming history, and a monument, testament, and pillar for everything that game development stands for. What an incredible story. Improbable and nigh impossible what the brothers have been able to do for so so long.

    Minor correction: the English subtitles read "mealy" when the developer is saying "melee" (around/after the 13:00 mark).

    I really wish these games would go cross platform. They deserve the broader audience

    For the record, FMF still has a 91% positive score on steam. It was a great game.

    I can only judge from the footage but hot damn do the sound effects of Rogue Legacy 2 sound satisfying.

    I bought this at launch and thought this doesn't feel very different and forgot all about it. Looking forward to diving back in now.

    full metal furies singleplayer was very enjoyable for a sweaty moba gamer due to the combos you could create from character-swapping at will. made co-op ironically feel secondary. my main wish is that FMF is used as foundation for a character action game :)

    I bought this in early access and could tell it was going somewhere good. However, the lack of a PS4/PS5 version in May 2023 is starting to get insulting. PS3 is where I found Rogue Legacy and had a blast playing on my commute with the PS Vita.

    I love this game so much. Ng+11 today. My only small complaint is that the story is needlessly complicated. I kept hoping this documentary might discuss that, but no luck. Where is the mossbag of RL2?

    Rogue Legacy is one of my favorites. I can't get into RL2 because the artstyle change just doesn't appeal to me, but it's great to hear about all the in an outs and experience the game without playing it.

    Just bought it now on switch while watching this video! I like the art of rogue legacy 2 but still miss what glauber did for the pixel art of Duelyst.
