Road my 2010 cbr 1000rr as an everyday rider for about a year had enough of being slammed on my wrist found a guy willing to trade a 23 mt 09 non sp. Have had the mt for about 3 days and absolutely love it.
This is a great, fun bike. I haven't ridden the SP, but have ridden the MT-09. You need to lean forward to get a little more weight on the front tire, when carving turns and the wind is BRUTAL at anything 75 and over, but its super fun to ride. At 120 hp and 420 lbs, its a little over 3 lbs per hp which is plenty. Also, the quick shifter may be the best of any bike I have ridden.
Think I'd rather have the XSR900 instead. The MT-09 is a great bike, but the XSR looks soo much better. I might have to budget for some better suspension parts though, if/when I get one, or maybe save that for a year two or three upgrade after I flog the piss out of the OEM squishy bits.
As someone who recently bought a 2023 MT-09. I'm going to have to agree. I used to want to ride full fairing super sports all the time, but I'm only 33 and began to see the appeal of the MT platform and how it has a great balance of comfort and agility. And 890cc is plenty of motor for me to blink and look down and realize I'm doing 100 in the corp limits lol *oopsie* I don't have a single shred of buyers remorse 🤙🤘
I wasn't even considering the MT-09 until I saw it in person and couple days ago and realized it looks incredible in person and offers everything im after even cruise control and the price is reasonable. I was actually debating alot of different bikes from adventure to nakeds feom 500cc to 900 cc. But the MT-09 wasn't even on my radar. Man I want this bike now. All I need is some heated grips, windscreen, tail delete, sliders and maybe an exhaust if I can get one that is only mildly louder but sounds better. Also a quick detachable side bag setup for longer trips. Im done! I really loved the Yamaha blue version on the 2024 too. Wow this bike is a looker and seeing it on video or in pictures doesn't do it justice. It stood out in a showroom of some really great bikes. I wanna pick it up now but it's now winter and in 30s and 40s F already so I gotta wait out this winter than go get it. I'm trading in my Harley I told myself I would never get rid of towards it. I can't maintain 2 bikes nor do I got the space in my shed for 2 unfortunately. MT-09 is gonna be my hooligan and light sport tourer bike. Thinking about this bike is gonna get me through the winter. Can't wait to have it! BTW I hear the base model has great fully adjustable suspension so I don't see the need to pay 2k more for the Ohlins upgrade although it is worth it im sure. But $10.5k is way more appealing to me and basically the top of my budget anyway.
Yammie, I hear you about the value proposition on the MT-09, it’s all true. However, Ducati has also been making a fared bike in this segment that is always overlooked but sits in the same spot. However since it’s not a Panigale, it’s forgotten. I guess there really is something like the MT in the category 😄
Absolutely loved my 2022 MT-09 SP, put nearly 5k miles on it in less than a month! Would have kept that odometer going but she was taken out shortly after by a drunk driver doing a u-turn from the lane to the right of me...
My 2017 has been so good after upgrading the rear shock to a Penske 2-cliker and getting Stoltec Moto fork valves that at 36k miles I just installed the radial front master cylinder from the 2023 model and steel braided lines. I have no plans to get rid of her any time soon... though the cruise control would be nice for my commute!
Every bike advisor: don’t ride in the center of the lane. It’s full of oil which can cause loss of traction. Also every bike advisor: cuts across the center of the lane while on the sidewall of the tyre searching for that perfect apex. :P
In the EU, you will fail your test if you don't ride the middle. Don't stop directly behind vehicles. Don't use all four fingers and cover your levers. You also fail if you wave at other riders.
@@nonyabusiness4151They tell you to stay in the middle?! Maybe because of narrow roads or maybe the cars over there don't leak anything. The center is pretty much the worst of the three choices available in any one lane. Every slippery thing that leaks out of cars is in what we call the grease strip. With a long overdue rain it gets even worse
on open road like this the amount of oil is really minimal. that advice is most useful in urban/suburban settings with heavy constant traffic. which to be fair is by far the most common use case
@@plap.I'm not hating, just stating. In Europe, all motor vehicles have a mandatory yearly safety check (MOT in the UK). After watching the 'just rolled in' vids on YT, I am not surprised that many vehicles leak oil in the US. I know they are extreme examples. Riding in the UK, I can honestly say, there is no oil in the centre of the lane.
@plap. They claim the cars never leak, but that's a lie. No, it's as simple as riding in the middle, giving you the most room, all in the name of safety. Never mind that you can't see or be seen.
Everyone says they wanted a ZO6 corvett back in the C5 era, then complained about going over a crack in the road and how it hurt their back LOL and just drove it to the grocery store or work. Same thing, people want the race car, but most don’t actually want to drive/ride it daily. (I say this as a guy that drove a project car for like 18 years with no A/C in Georgia… I’m an odd ball, but even I don’t want a super sport bike, naked’s are where it’s at. 90% of the track performance but waaay more practical in the street.
I crashed my MT 07 beginning of august and roughly three weeks after that i got my hands on a 2018 MT 09 SP. God how its fun :D but the weather be damned here, its pouring rain already... What a coincidence that you made this video after me buying my own MT 09 SP :D
11:20 I spent the entire video thinkin' "I bet people would want to punch me in the face if I asked about getting a mild windscreen and side bags for this thing."

Can you sell stuff that isn’t strictly yammy merch? Like a motorcycle toolkit or something useful. Also how is the winner selected for your giveaway bikes? What’s the process?
“If you’re an experienced motorcyclists, this is it.” What are the thoughts on so many new riders starting with this bike? I figure it’s a bit much, but I learned on an old GSX-R with no nannies, so I’m one to talk. 😂
Going to turn 60 next year... my Aprilia RSVR hurt my wrists and back, purchased a 2023 SP and couldn't be happier. I have ridden the 2024 and am so happy I got a 2023.
My brother bought a new SP a few weeks ago, and I was able to have a few rides on it recently. It's a fun bike to ride and I think it's great value for money. But...like my brother...I can't help but wonder, why does it only carry 14 litres of fuel? It's not intended to be a supersport racer. Would another 3 or 4 litres of fuel capacity have compromised its sporting prowess? He's already bolted on a screen and a rack is on the way...but, it's carrying his extra fuel.
I love the way the MT line looks, I was looking to get an MT 03 but its just a bit too small displacement and a bit too cheaply built. But the MT 07 is just a bit too much out of my price range. I wish they had something like an MT 04 with just a bit more power and a bit better build quality.
@@doghous3 I've considered it, and objectively its better to buy a slightly used bike. But right now I've been super busy and dont want to spend the time to source out a buy, transfer the money, go to the DMV and transfer the title. And although service for bikes is pretty simple, its not something I want to mess with right now. I just want to buy something and get out and ride without worrying about anything breaking down. I'm still debating it, and if I save up until next year I should have enough to stretch for the MT 07.
How would it compare to a Streetfighter V4S? Went from an MT07 to the Ducati as it was my dream bike and was thinking of perhaps “downgrading” for something with less HP, but it’s a difference of almost 100bhp considering the Akra exhaust and all pushing it from 208bhp to 212bhp+
Personal opinion, dont like the aesthetics of the gen 1 and gen 3 MT-09 and prefer the aesthetics of the gen 2 and 4. The gen 4 looks best to me. That being said I haven’t had the opportunity to take one for a spin so I cant speak on how they ride but from what I’ve heard (mainly from UA-cam) is the gen 4 is the most well put together version (as it should be because thats how evolution works)
I agree you don't need more as this Bike to be fast on tge Streetand curvy Roads as many 200 BHP Bikes. But for the Heart and thrill i buy a V4 S Streetfighter😎
Had the gen3 mt09 for 3 years now and its a blast, but i find it so dull when cruising, its not a chilled ride bike, it comes alive when thrashed though.
I am just starting out to ride. As per european laws I am currently learning in school riding a sv650. I am still undecided on what to get as my first own bike. It has to be a2 complient. However I am very much out to buy something with a larger displacement and then dial it down to 48hp. I am thinking about getting an mt09, since it makes a very compelling argument as an overall package. On the other hand I also thought about going for the rs660 since I often feel like leaning forward into a more aggressive posture and being more of a squid. I would also have to try out how it feels to sit on since the sv650 feels kinda small with my 6'3'' hight and 34" inseam, and therefore there might be a problem there anyway. I was wondering what your guys' thoughts are on these rather unusual choices
I don’t agree with the comparison against the striple 765, if you have ride both, the striple is way ahead in terms of performance, suspensions, chasis, geometry, not saying that the 09 sp is bad, is just not better than the striple 765.
The striple 765 is definitely (much) more refined! So much so, I don't see how the two can be compared. I guess if people squint really hard and click their heels together. . . .anything is possible. lol
@@GigOne clearly, The striple 765 is definitely (much) more refined. On magazine or in your iphone gallery, she's the best. On open roads, the 09 destroy her every day.
motors might last forever, but the electronics... not dissing the leccy, I like the idea of cruise-control, but keyless and electric fuel cap. At least make it an option. still, I may upgrade from my 07 to an 09 at some point...
mt09 costs almost 20,000 usd in india :( sadly we dont even get it anymore... but i got some news saying they plan to launch it soon! im so waiting for it man! ill actually have to go to a different state to get one because yamaha dealers dont give it in my state but id go to that extent! if they don, ill get the tripple RS at 17k USD.. yup.. The MT-09 in all generations is a weird bike for me. The engine is fantastic, and it's such a good value for the size, power, and features. It's objectively great, and I would recommend it to other people because those qualities are undeniable; however, I find it to be the least desirable of the bikes with that triple cylinder engine - If I want a fun weekend bike or a good looking bike I'd choose the XSR-900, if I want touring I could choose the Tracer 9 without all the work to make the MT-09 function as effectively, and either of those bikes I would choose over the MT-09 for daily riding. I've never found its handling characteristics to be desirable, even in the later generations. Most importantly, the seat is uniquely uncomfortable for me; my legs get uncomfortably smushed right where the seat begins to flare out. It's so bad for me the MT-09 is a non-starter, and I'm surprised I haven't seen it get brought up by anyone (someone might take issue with the seat shape but I haven't seen it). I have some wide legs for my height, though, so maybe it's just a "me" problem. Simply put, I have other more comfortable options with that great triple-cylinder engine. The MT-09 would just take too much work to make it function like the other bikes when I could just choose the others instead.
Post the Suspension adjustment video Yam! Love my 22sp( just hit 13000 miles) and for everyday riding( fast slow and everything in between) prefer it over my 22 street triple RS which is only more rewarding when I flog it at really fast 💨 pace -then it’s motor, stiffer suspension, chassis are magic 🪄 🤓😎
it probably sounds criminal for me to ask buuuuuutttt i noticed that there is a sizeable handlebar riser/height-adder-thingy. would it be possible to lower the handlebars by swapping that extension for a more committed position?
I bought an MT09 SP 2023 (immaculate condition with low mileage, used from a dealer here in the UK at £3.5K less than original list price) just before you published your first ride review and I agree 100% with you. The bike is perfect as stock, there’s really no need to change a thing.
I ride a CB500X everywhere (not track) and spend most of my time with my ass on the pillion part of the seat (which is a single smooth shape, similar to the MT-09 Gen3). This raises my position relative to the pegs and handlebars. I was thinking that with adjustable pegs I could do the same with the Gen3, which has a very smooth seat. What do you think? I like getting into the tuck and if I could have two bikes I would have an upright for street and a sportbike like a CB1000RR for track and spirited out of city rides. Would the Gen3 with upgraded suspension satisfy this sporty bias?
I can buy a used 2021 Gen3 non-SP for about $12K vs $17 for the MY24 non-SP ($20K for MY24 SP). My thinking is to spend $3K to upgrade the suspension on the Gen3 (Matris F20K level products). If I bought the MT it will be tracked, for sure. I want the torque of a litre bike so the Street Triple is not quite there. Other candidates are CB1000R and Speed Triple MY16+. It is hot where I am during summer so maybe the Speed Triple is too hot. Leaning forward isn't a problem for me so getting into the tuck is where I like to be when cornering. It is difficult to test ride where I am unfortunately so getting some directions is a good start.
I have a question that it's on my mind. Is the XSR 900 based on the MT09 or the MT09 SP (talking about the 2023-2024)? I can not remember which one is it and i can't tell the difference by looking at it on Yamaha dealers websites/showrooms
hey mr noob, you're a light dude so I imagine you have the same problem (more so) than me. I'm 80kg without gear and I've run out of rebound damping on the rear. Only 8000 miles. The rear tire tells me I still need more rebound damping. I'm in a couple of forums for mt 09 sp (gen 3) and see the same thing every time someone posts a photo of their rear tire. Do you know if their is a modification / fix for this? Heavier oil etc?
I just got my 4th gen base mode mt09 and l its 90 percent the same as the 3rd gen but i would 100% would not buy a 3rd gen in 2024 unless your getting a good deal case even though it's just 10% difference that 10% is worth it
Both similar level upgrades of different flavours... zx6r will have better top end and be more wristy... torquier MT09 will be more comfortable and probably be quicker to 100mph but the ZX6 will then overtake it. MT09 has an extensive electronics safety net which provides confidence and allows you to push up to the edge of the bikes limits far easier. It's not really a question of what is best... more what is best for you. In a nut shell... ZX6 better track bike, MT09 better street bike.
@@56theincredible The 09 would probably be a good fit for you then, it does do everything really well. Its a lot of fun! A ZX6 will have better top end and better full aggression/track performance but for a street bike, its not usable. The 09 has more to offer than you can use on the street. The 09 can be a complete menace if you want it to be, it can pull on liter bikes for a couple of gears. It can be rode tamely but the hooligan energy is there! The older 1st/2nd gen 09's don't handle or ride as nice but they are more raw. Snappy and aggressive and dangerous if you're not ready for it. I had a 1st gen FZ09 before my 23'MT-09SP. Loved it but the 21+ bikes are better in every way. A flash/filter/exhaust up's the level even more. The torque and acceleration is why I love it so much, its an absolute rocket. I swapped with my buddies 1st gen Busa and all he had to say was wholly sh1t!
The questions you have to ask to yourself is: Supersport or naked? Long straights on highway or street commuting-twisty roads? Lots of track days or barely any? Looks or usefulness? . And then, you will make up your mind ;)
I have a 3rd gen mt09 and the only thing i can complain is because of the rider triangle the front seems very light and lacks feeling when pushing it hard on the street. If anyone has a suggestion for that i would appreciate. ( I've only used S22 and S23 tires on it)
I just rode 320 miles in one day on my XSR900, on mostly highway on average of 70mph minimum. The ride was fun, except the return potion, the knees started to hurt and ass needed replacement at the end.
Really depends what you like to do? I was debating the same thing, but ended up with the xsr. For me, customizimg my bike is huge, and I found the xsr to be ahead in that regards. Looks better, (to me) not as upright, and I can do a few more things to the xsr than I could with the MT. Honestly I don't think you could pick wrong with either bike.
The SP comes with premium suspension.... Although I prefer the looks of the XSR900 it also has a slightly longer wheelbase now. Now if the XSR900GP could come to the US I think that's the happy sportbike/upright medium some of us want for the street.

Love the whole MT line, wish Honda had a line like this
Yammie, I hear you about the value proposition on the MT-09, it’s all true.
I think the only bikes that may top it are a Triumph Street/Speed triple 765 and a honda CB1000R
Perfect street bike if a motorcycle is your only means of transportation. Otherwise a full fairing bike is better/more fun
Great value bike for sure. However, best value bike today is the Suzuki SV650. Much cheaper and an absolutely awesome street bike.
Street Triple isn’t that far behind on torque and is a better bike if you are a sportier rider that might do track days.
Im going with the 1st gen fz1, 2003 black and yellow. Can find here for around 3500-4000 bucks, cant wait! Was looking at the early bandit 1200, but cant find one close I like. Ill take bang for the buck over technology all day...plus im poor as sht, and cant afford an mt09 sp lmao!
Love when yammy confirms my decisions a year later through video form 😅
Yammie, what's your take on Suzuki GSX-S750 compared to this MT-09?
What do you think about the 750Hornet ?
Can you sell stuff that isn’t strictly yammy merch? Like a motorcycle toolkit or something useful.
Also how is the winner selected for your giveaway bikes? What’s the process?
“If you’re an experienced motorcyclists, this is it.” What are the thoughts on so many new riders starting with this bike? I figure it’s a bit much, but I learned on an old GSX-R with no nannies, so I’m one to talk. 😂
I think the non sp will be my next bike, saves a bit of money and its great aswell I think/ hope haha. Ofcourse the blue coloured one.
That’s the EXACT model I have. You won’t be disappointed.
I also have a gen 3 (2021) base model and I love it!
It's a brilliant bike but the Tracer 9GT has 99% of the performance but so much more comfort
I think people are prioritizing the 24 for the brembo stylemas as well
Remember you put out a video 3-4 years ago saying the MT 09 was not good for street use? I do!
The only complaint I have on the CP3 engine is how they nuetered 2nd gear from the factory. Can easily be eliminated with a tune.
Going to turn 60 next year... my Aprilia RSVR hurt my wrists and back, purchased a 2023 SP and couldn't be happier. I have ridden the 2024 and am so happy I got a 2023.
What is different from 23-24 ?
So you’re saying the 23 is better than 24 in terms of comfort?
Why?
😂
Gotta know why you're glad you got a 23 over a 24. I've only ridden a 24 and it was glorious and looks so much better.
Do the R9 ergonomic point toward it being something that can be ridden for an hour without being in pain?
I love the way the MT line looks, I was looking to get an MT 03 but its just a bit too small displacement and a bit too cheaply built. But the MT 07 is just a bit too much out of my price range. I wish they had something like an MT 04 with just a bit more power and a bit better build quality.
buy 2nd-hand? the 07 is a jolly good bike.
Does lift control prevent clutch up wheelies?
the 24 has a smaller airbox and more restriction the third gen pulls harder no doubt you could really fell it in the first three gear
Can wait for you to review the R9
Personal opinion, dont like the aesthetics of the gen 1 and gen 3 MT-09 and prefer the aesthetics of the gen 2 and 4. The gen 4 looks best to me. That being said I haven’t had the opportunity to take one for a spin so I cant speak on how they ride but from what I’ve heard (mainly from UA-cam) is the gen 4 is the most well put together version (as it should be because thats how evolution works)
Yammie, how will it compare to the R9
I just need the R9 Version of this and i'm buying.
I don’t agree with the comparison against the striple 765, if you have ride both, the striple is way ahead in terms of performance, suspensions, chasis, geometry, not saying that the 09 sp is bad, is just not better than the striple 765.
Felt the same way and ended up with the Striple. Love every moment on it.
If you are casual rider and never going to take it to the track , is a non SP model good enough?
More than!
Oh yeah
mt09 costs almost 20,000 usd in india :( sadly we dont even get it anymore... but i got some news saying they plan to launch it soon! im so waiting for it man! ill actually have to go to a different state to get one because yamaha dealers dont give it in my state but id go to that extent! if they don, ill get the tripple RS at 17k USD.. yup.. TAX.. thats why we pay more for the same bikes in india
I’d like to see your opinion after riding awhile on a new gen Ducati monster base or sp.
Hey Yammie. “Which brake pads do you change out to
Thanks for the vivid emotions you bring to my day. Your videos are a real joy!🌷 ) 😁*
Should get a new 765rs as the next bike
it probably sounds criminal for me to ask buuuuuutttt i noticed that there is a sizeable handlebar riser/height-adder-thingy. would it be possible to lower the handlebars by swapping that extension for a more committed position?
how would this stack up against kawi z900?
"Super sports don't sale anymore " I for one have bought 4 Supersports in 3 years. I guess I don't count.
And I just picked up a new 2024 Ninja ZX-6R about 6 months ago. Love it.
I have a question that it's on my mind.
Is the XSR 900 based on the MT09 or the MT09 SP (talking about the 2023-2024)?
I can not remember which one is it and i can't tell the difference by looking at it on Yamaha dealers websites/showrooms
The '24 also comes stock with cruise control and the custom ride modes, I don't know if the '23 comes with the ride modes.
So I’m currently looking at a 23’ MT-09.
Out the door of the dealer for $10,800
Scam? Or should I request a SP?
hey mr noob, you're a light dude so I imagine you have the same problem (more so) than me.
SP or RS ??
I just got my 4th gen base mode mt09 and l its 90 percent the same as the 3rd gen but i would 100% would not buy a 3rd gen in 2024 unless your getting a good deal case even though it's just 10% difference that 10% is worth it
zx6r or mt09 which is a better upgrade from a 400 cc?
Depends on your tastes and use case. What kind of riding you do the most.
@@mytmousemalibu wanna gooo fast weekend riding with my buddies... my 400 is a naked and i will use it for daily commuting
I’m curious how yammie loved the mt09 but didn’t enjoy the tracer 9 which basically is the same bike with fairing and a more upright seating position
It’s much heavier than the MT & suspension is 💩
I have a 3rd gen mt09 and the only thing i can complain is because of the rider triangle the front seems very light and lacks feeling when pushing it hard on the street. If anyone has a suggestion for that i would appreciate. ( I've only used S22 and S23 tires on it)
Had a '22 base model and wanted for nothing. Soon as I can I'm replacing it with another.
I just rode 320 miles in one day on my XSR900, on mostly highway on average of 70mph minimum. The ride was fun, except the return potion, the knees started to hurt and ass needed replacement at the end.
with exhaust done , does it sound an feel like a twin or an in line 4 ?
MT09SP? Or XSR900? Which is on top?
arent they the same? except for the design?
Really depends what you like to do? I was debating the same thing, but ended up with the xsr. For me, customizimg my bike is huge, and I found the xsr to be ahead in that regards. Looks better, (to me) not as upright, and I can do a few more things to the xsr than I could with the MT. Honestly I don't think you could pick wrong with either bike.
The SP comes with premium suspension.... Although I prefer the looks of the XSR900 it also has a slightly longer wheelbase now. Now if the XSR900GP could come to the US I think that's the happy sportbike/upright medium some of us want for the street.
design?
I prefer gen 2. Didn't really like the Gen 3.
12.5 k the 21-23euros here and 13.2 the 24 here in Italy for a new One ...not same price as the gsx 8r at least here
